The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept of fuzzy variational-like inequalities and to study the existence problem and the iterative approximation problem for solutions of certain kinds of fuzzy variational-like inequalities in Hilbert spaces. By using the general auxiliary principle technique, Ky Fan's KKM theorem, Nadler's fixed point theorem, and some new analytic techniques, some existence theorems and some iterative approximation schemes for solving this kind of fuzzy variational-like inequalities are established. The results presented in this paper are new and they generalize, improve, and unify a number of recent results.

INTRODUCTION: Surgery for perforated small bowel malignancy is associated with dismal morbidity and mortality rates. The aim of the paper was to highlight our institution's surgical experience in the management of patients with malignant small bowel perforation. METHODS: A retrospective review of all patients who underwent operative intervention for malignant small bowel perforation from 2004 to 2007 was performed. The diagnosis was confirmed upon histological evaluation. RESULTS: Emergency surgery was performed in seven patients with perforated small bowel malignancy during the study period. All were above 55 years old, with the majority (6/7) having an ASA score of 3 and above. Pneumoperitoneum on chest radiograph was seen in only one patient while computed tomographic scans demonstrating the pathology were performed in the rest. All patients underwent exploratory laparotomy with resection of the diseased segments within 24 h of admission. Jejunum and the ileum were the sites of perforation in six and one patients, respectively. Three patients had synchronous small bowel tumours. Two patients had stoma created due to extensive peritoneal soilage and haemodynamic instability. Lymphoma was the aetiology in four patients. The other pathologies included leiomyosarcoma (n = 1) and metastatic lung tumours (n = 2). The 30-day peri-operative mortality rate was 42.9% (n = 3). One was discharged to a hospice while another two received chemotherapy upon discharge. These three patients passed away within a year from the surgery. The last patient defaulted follow up. CONCLUSION: In our small series, patients who were admitted for perforated small bowel malignancy have a high peri-operative mortality rates. Abstract: Introduction: Osteochondroma is the most common bone tumour and is usually found around the knee. Typical presentations range form painless masses around the joint to mechanical irritation caused by direct pressure over surrounding muscles. Snapping of the knee caused by an osteochondroma however has not been described in literature. Method: An active 19-year-old gentleman presented with snapping of the left medial hamstring tendon for over 5 years, but with recent increase in frequencies of attack. The patient was initially diagnosed to have a sporting injury. Radiological investigation showed an opaque lesion on the medial border of the proximal tibia, which was suggestive of an osteophyte. Results: The lump was surgically excised and the patient made good recovery with resolution of symptoms. Histological results revealed the lesion to be that of an osteochondroma. Conclusion: Although rare, osteochondroma should be considered as a differential when approaching a case of snapping knee pain. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

There is a critical need for study designs with the desirable characteristics of assay sensitivity, low placebo response, reliable pain recordings, low cost, short duration of exposure to test drug and placebo, and relevant and recruitable population.Methods: We designed a proof-of-concept, double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled, crossover study in patients with post-traumatic peripheral neuropathic pain (PTNP) to evaluate whether such a study design had the potential to detect efficacious agents. Pregabalin, known to be efficacious in neuropathic pain, was used as the active analgesic. We also assessed physical activity throughout the study.Results: Twenty-five adults (20–70 years of age) with PTNP for ≥3 months entered a screening week and were then randomized to one of the two following treatment sequences: (1) pregabalin followed by placebo or (2) placebo followed by pregabalin. These 2-week treatment periods were separated by a 2-week washout period. Patients on pregabalin treatment received escalating doses to a final dosage of 300 mg/day (days 5–15). In an attempt to minimize placebo response, patients received placebo treatment during the screening week and the 2-week washout period. Average daily pain scores (primary endpoint) were significantly reduced for pregabalin versus placebo, with a mean treatment difference of -0.81 (95% confidence interval: -1.45 to -0.17; P = 0.015).Conclusion: The efficacy of pregabalin was similar to that identified in a large, parallel group trial in PTNP. Ciprofloxacin is widely reported to lower theophylline clearance in patients. Since cyclosporin and theophylline are metabolized by cytochrome P-450 enzymes in the human liver, we investigated whether ciprofloxacin could alter the pharmacokinetics of cyclosporin in healthy volunteers. There was no significant difference (P greater than 0.05) in the pharmacokinetic parameters estimated for cyclosporin without and during ciprofloxacin administration. The results of the present study suggest that ciprofloxacin is unlikely to affect the pharmacokinetics of cyclosporin to a clinically important extent at a dosage of 500 mg twice a day. Notch1 plays various roles in cancer development, and Notch1-induced transactivation is controlled by phosphorylation of its cleaved intracellular domain. However, it is unclear whether there are phosphatases capable of dephosphorylating the cleaved Notch1 transmembrane/intracellular region (NTM) to regulate its function. Here, we show that DUSP6 can function as a phosphatase for Notch1, thereby regulating NTM stability and transcriptional activity, thus influencing colorectal cancer (CRC) development. In human CRC cells, elevated DUSP6 expression correlates with increased NTM levels, leading to enhanced CRC cell proliferation both in vitro and in vivo. High tumoral DUSP6 protein expression is associated with poorer overall CRC patient survival. In mice, DUSP6 deficiency results in reduced CRC development. Mechanistically, DUSP6 dephosphorylates phospho-Y2116, which in turn reduces NTM ubiquitination, leading to increased NTM stability and transcriptional activity. Objectives: To identify the range of factors that impact health behaviours pertaining to the uptake of pneumococcal vaccination (PV) among older persons., Study Design: Scoping review., Methods: This review followed Arksey and O'Malley's framework. Five databases: PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus and Embase were searched for relevant studies on PV uptake among outpatient older adults ≥65 years published between January 2013 and October 2023. Data were extracted and verified using a standardised template, and synthesised using inductive content analysis. Findings were classified according to Andersen's behavioural model of health services use (BMHSU)., Results: Twenty-seven papers were included in the final analysis. Reception of PV was influenced by predisposing factors such as (i) awareness and risk perception, (ii) demographic characteristics, and (iii) cultural beliefs towards preventive medicine; enabling factors including (i) disease and vaccine literacy, (ii) past experience with preventive health services, and (iii) access to relevant resources; as well as reinforcing factors namely, (i) vaccine efficacy and safety, (ii) social influence, (iii) support from healthcare professionals, and (iv) vaccine administration environment., Conclusions: Older adults' health behaviours, particularly their attitudes towards vaccination are often complex and this attests to the need for multidimensional, cross-sector barrier-specific strategies to raise PV coverage. Circularly polarized electroluminescence (CPEL) is highly promising in realm of 3D display and optical data storage. However, designing a groundbreaking chiral material with high comprehensive CPEL performance remains a formidable challenge. In this work, a pair of chiral polymers with self-assembled behavior is designed by integrating a chiral BN-moiety into polyfluorene backbone, named R-PBN and S-PBN, respectively. The chiral polymers show narrowband emission centered at 490 nm with full-width half maximum (FWHM) of 29 nm and high photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of 79 %. After thermal annealing treatment, the chiral polymers undergo self-assembly, exhibiting amplified circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) with asymmetry factor (|g lum |) of up to 0.11. Moreover, the solution-processed nondoped CP-OLEDs based on the chiral polymers as emitting layers exhibit maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE max ) of 9.8 %, intense CPEL activities with |g EL | of up to 0.07, and small FWHM of 36 nm, simultaneously. Stimuli-responsive circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) materials have been attaching wide attention in the field of optical information storage and encryption, while still facing the challenge of the realization of high luminescence dissymmetry factors (g lum ). This work presents a pair of stimuli-responsive chiral co-assemblies P7R3 and P7S3 by combining polymer PFIQ containing iso-quinoline units with chiral inducers. The obtained chiral co-assemblies can reversibly undergo significant modification in CPL behavior under trifluoroacetic acid (TFA) fumigation and annealing treatment, with the |g lum | values exhibiting a reversible shift between 0.2 and 0.3. Moreover, the chiral co-assemblies before TFA fumigating can effectively induce achiral emitters to generate intense full-color CPL signals through CPL energy transfer (CPL-ET), with the corresponding |g lum | values larger than 0.2. Moreover, information encryption and decryption as well as a multi-level logic gates application are achieved by leveraging the reversible stimuli-responsive CPL activity of the chiral co-assembly. Colorectal cancer (CRC) ranks as the second leading cause of cancer deaths globally. In recent years, short-read single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) has been instrumental in deciphering tumor heterogeneities. However, these studies only enable gene-level quantification but neglect alterations in transcript structures arising from alternative end processing or splicing. In this study, we integrated short- and long-read scRNA-seq of CRC samples to build an isoform-resolution CRC transcriptomic atlas. We identified 394 dysregulated transcript structures in tumor epithelial cells, including 299 resulting from various combinations of splicing events. Second, we characterized genes and isoforms associated with epithelial lineages and subpopulations exhibiting distinct prognoses. Among 31,935 isoforms with novel junctions, 330 were supported by The Cancer Genome Atlas RNA-seq and mass spectrometry data. A promising kind of ternary chiral co-assemblies with high PLQY, large dissymmetry factor (g lum ), and narrowband multi-resonance characteristics are achieved by codoped-thermal annealing treatments of achiral luminescent polymer F8BT, chiral inducers R/S-5011, and achiral FRET acceptor DBN-ICZ. The optimized co-assemblies (F8BT) 0.9 -(R/S-5011) 0.1 -(DBN-ICZ) 0.005 display narrowband yellow emission with full-width half maximum (FWHM) of 37 nm, PLQY of 79%, and intense CPL signals with |g lum | of up to 0.26. Meaningfully, solution-processed CP-OLEDs by using those ternary chiral co-assemblies as emitting layer are successfully fabricated, which display yellow circularly polarized electroluminescence (CPEL) with EQE max of 4.6% and g EL of up to 0.16. The corresponding Q-factor could reach up to 7.36 × 10 -3 , which is the highest of all the reported CP-OLEDs. Moreover, the devices also exhibit excellent comprehensive device performance with low V on of 7.0 V, high L max of about 25 000 cd m -2 , extremely low efficiency roll-off with EQE of 4.3% at 10 000 cd m -2 , as well as narrowband EL with FWHM of only 39 nm. The proposed ternary co-assembly strategy in fabricating CP-OLED provides the possibility to achieve high comprehensive device performance such as balancing high EQE and large g EL value, as well as narrowband emission, high brightness and low efficiency roll-off simultaneously., (© 2024 Wiley‐VCH GmbH.)

Objectives: Perceptions towards advanced care planning (ACP) amongst individuals with Ischemic Heart Disease before or after a life-threatening Acute Myocardial Infarction event is underexamined and could impact the appropriate timing for ACP advocacy. This cross-sectional study assessed awareness and intentions regarding ACP in individuals with Ischemic Heart Disease, both before and after an Acute Myocardial Infarction, and explored the motivating effect of a near-fatal Acute Myocardial Infarction event on its engagement., Methods: This study was conducted from 24 August 2021 through 13 March 2023, whereby patients were administered a one-time questionnaire with no follow-up required. Patients with either chronic Ischemic Heart Disease (group A) or a recent Acute Myocardial Infarction event (group B) were recruited from the outpatient National University Heart Centre, Singapore., Results: 101 patients (n = 51 for Group A, n = 50 for Group B) were recruited. Mean age (SD) was 59 (10.5) years and 84 were male (83.2%). Between both groups, patients in group B reported significantly higher scores on 'Lack of information' and 'Self-efficacy' domains, and had no ACP awareness nor plans of doing an ACP compared to group A. ACP awareness was the sole significant predictor of intentions of doing an ACP in the final regression model ( P < .05)., Conclusions: Interestingly, this study suggests that surviving a potentially life-threatening heart condition did not result in higher intention of doing an ACP. Introduction: Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections are a serious threat to public health. Vancomycin (VAN) remains the primary treatment for these infections, and achieving the recommended area under the curve (AUC) target has been linked to improved clinical outcomes. The current VAN therapeutic monitoring guidelines recommend a loading dose (LD) of 20-35 mg/kg to rapidly attain targeted VAN exposures within 24 h of therapy. However, there is a paucity of data describing the impact of VAN LD on day 1 area under the curve (AUC 0-24 ). This study aims to employ pharmacokinetic (PK) equations to calculate and describe the AUC 0-24 following a VAN LD of 20 mg/kg., Methods: This was a retrospective study of adult patients who were loaded with VAN 20 mg/kg, received ≥ 48 h of treatment, and had two consecutive serum VAN levels collected within 24 h. Linear, non-trapezoidal PK equations and two post-infusion VAN levels were used to calculate AUC 0-24 . Therapeutic AUC 0-24 was defined as 400-600 mg/l*h., Results: Among 123 included patients, the median age was 46 years (IQR 36, 62), 54% (67/123) of the patients had a body mass index (BMI) ≥ 30 kg/m 2 and 27% (33/123) were admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Following a LD of 20 mg/kg, 50% (61/123) of the patients met the therapeutic AUC 0-24 , while 22% (27/123) of the patients were subtherapeutic, and 28% (35/123) were supratherapeutic. Compared with patients who achieved therapeutic AUC 0-24 , patients with subtherapeutic AUC 0-24 were more likely to be younger (44 vs. 37 years old) and have a BMI ≥ 30 kg/m 2 (67 vs. 52%). In contrast, patients with supratherapeutic AUC 0-24 were more likely to be older (64 vs. 44 years old) and to have chronic kidney disease diagnosis (23 vs. 7%) when compared to patients who achieved a therapeutic AUC 0-24. CONCLUSIONS: Only 50% of patients achieve the target AUC 0-24 following a VAN 20 mg/kg LD, with younger, heavier patients underexposed and older patients with renal impairment overexposed, suggesting that different dosing strategies are needed for these populations., (© 2024. Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the few cancers for which screening has been associated with better survival and morbidity, but screening uptake has been underexplored in spouses of existing patients with CRC. The objective of this study was to evaluate whether a brief, structured behavioral intervention delivered to spouses of patients with CRC in a colorectal clinical setting could increase fecal immunochemical test (FIT) uptake within 3 months of the study period., Methods: This study was designed as a block randomized, unblinded, parallel trial conducted in the colorectal outpatient clinics of 2 public tertiary hospitals in Singapore from December 2017 to February 2023. The intervention group received a structured informational pamphlet on CRC screening by the Singapore Ministry of Health and a printed guide with instructions on how to properly use a FIT kit., Results: No significant differences in baseline characteristics were observed between the 2 groups. There was a statistically significant difference (P<.001) in FIT screening uptake between spouses in each group, with 86.2% (n=25) in the intervention group and 38.7% (n=12) in the control group., Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that a brief, structured behavioral intervention offered to spouses accompanying patients with CRC while they wait for the clinic appointment is useful in increasing FIT screening uptake rates. Background: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most deadly form of cancer, inducing an estimated 1.9 million incidence cases and 0.9 million deaths worldwide in 2020. Despite the availability of screening tests, their uptake remains suboptimal. However, blood-based tests that look for signs of cancer-specific markers in the body are increasingly available as an alternative for more invasive tests for cancer. Compared with existing tests, the benefits of blood-based tests for CRC include not needing pretest preparation, stool handling, and dietary or medication restrictions., Objective: This study aims to explore the population's preferences for CRC screening tests, with a focus on blood-based tests, and investigate the factors influencing test uptake., Methods: We used a mixed methods approach, combining semistructured interviews and a discrete choice experiment (DCE) survey. Interviews were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify salient attributes for CRC screening tests. These attributes informed the design of the DCE survey. The DCE data were analyzed using mixed logit and mixed-mixed multinomial logit models., Results: Qualitative findings from 30 participants revealed that participants preferred blood-based tests due to their perceived low risk, minimal pain, and ease of sample collection. However, concerns about the test's lower accuracy were also expressed. The DCE survey was completed by 1189 participants. In the mixed logit model, participants demonstrated a stronger preference for blood-based tests over a 2-day stool-based test. The mixed-mixed multinomial logit model identified 2 classes, strong supporters and weak supporters, for CRC screening. Weak supporters, but not strong supporters, had a higher preference for blood-based tests. Women, ethnic Chinese, and people aged 40 to 60 years were more likely to be weak supporters. Both models highlighted the high influence of cost and test sensitivity on participants' preferences. Transitioning from a 2-day stool-based test to a blood-based test, assuming a national screening program at a base price of Singapore $5 (US $3.75), was estimated to have the potential to increase the relative uptake by 5.9% (95% CI 3.6%-8.2%)., Conclusions: These findings contribute to our understanding of CRC screening preferences and provide insights into the factors driving test uptake. This study highlights the perceived advantages of blood-based tests and identifies areas of concern regarding their accuracy. Background: Lymph node metastasis (LNM) occurs in 20-25% of patients with T2 colorectal cancer (CRC). Identification of risk factors for LNM in T2 CRC may help identify patients who are at low risk and thereby potential candidates for endoscopic full-thickness resection. We examined risk factors for LNM in T2 CRC with the goal of establishing further criteria of the indications for endoscopic resection., Methods: MEDLINE, CENTRAL, and EMBASE were systematically searched from inception to November 2023. Studies that investigated the association between the presence of LNM and the clinical and pathological factors of T2 CRC were included. Odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were calculated. Certainty of evidence (CoE) was assessed using the GRADE approach., Results: Fourteen studies (8349 patients) were included. Overall, the proportion of LNM was 22%. The meta-analysis revealed that the presence of lymphovascular invasion (OR, 5.5; 95% CI 3.7-8.3; high CoE), high-grade tumor budding (OR, 2.4; 95% CI 1.5-3.7; moderate CoE), poor differentiation (OR, 2.2; 95% CI 1.8-2.7; moderate CoE), and female sex (OR, 1.3; 95% CI 1.1-1.7; high CoE) were associated with LNM in T2 CRC. Lymphatic invasion (OR, 5.0; 95% CI 3.3-7.6) was a stronger predictor of LNM than vascular invasion (OR, 2.4; 95% CI 2.1-2.8)., Conclusions: Lymphovascular invasion, high-grade tumor budding, poor differentiation, and female sex were risk factors for LNM in T2 CRC. Chiral conjugated polymer has promoted the development of the efficient circularly polarized electroluminescence (CPEL) device, nevertheless, it remains a challenge to develop chiral polymers with high electroluminescence performance. Herein, by the acceptor copolymerization of axially chiral biphenyl emitting skeleton and benzophenone, a pair of axially chiral conjugated polymers namely R-PAC and S-PAC are synthesized. The target polymers exhibit obvious thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) activities with high photoluminescence quantum yields of 81%. Moreover, the chiral polymers display significant circularly polarized luminescence features, with luminescence dissymmetry factor (|g lum |) of nearly 3 × 10 -3 . By using the chiral polymers as emitters, the corresponding circularly polarized organic light-emitting diodes (CP-OLEDs) exhibit efficient CPEL signals with electroluminescence dissymmetry factor |g EL | of 3.4 × 10 -3 and high maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE max ) of 17.8%. Notably, considering both EQE max and |g EL | comprehensively, the device performance of R-PAC and S-PAC is the best among all the reported CP-OLEDs with chiral conjugated polymers as emitters. Purpose: Chemotherapy is one of the common treatments in cancer management. However, chemotherapy-induced cognitive impairment (CICI) is one notable side effect that can greatly impact a patient's quality of life. Literature on CICI in gastrointestinal (GI) cancers are few and inconsistent. This review aims to identify the methodological differences in such studies., Methods: A systematic search was performed in four electronic databases. All peer-reviewed primary literature published in English that evaluated cognitive-related functioning scores related to chemotherapy in GI cancer patients were included. Information about each study such as CICI findings, study limitations, methodology, and sample characteristics was extracted and synthesized., Results: A total of 19 studies were included. Evidence of CICI was found in 50.0% (8 of 16) and 62.5% (5 of 8) studies that used objective and subjective measures, respectively. Methodological differences such as groups used for comparison, instruments used, and assessment from the length of time since chemotherapy were highlighted between studies that did and did not find evidence of CICI., Conclusions: This review suggests that the mixed findings can be attributed to the heterogeneous methodologies adopted in the evaluation of CICI in this field., Implications for Cancer Survivors: Further studies are necessary to establish the presence and chronicity of CICI, and in which groups of patients to facilitate targeted interventions and treatments., (© 2024 John Wiley & Sons Australia, Ltd.)

Health equity gaps persist across minoritized groups due to systems of oppression affecting health-related social needs such as access to transportation, education and literacy, or food and housing security. Consequently, disparities in the prevalence of multidrug-resistant infections, infectious disease outcomes, and inappropriate antimicrobial use have been reported across minoritized populations. The Joint Commission and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) have formally acknowledged the importance of integrating health equity-focused initiatives into existing hospital quality improvement (QI) programs. Purpose: During the COVID-19 pandemic, home-based and remote learning-particularly using electronic devices-was rapidly pushed out. Increased near-work, screen time exposure and lack of outdoor time are risk factors that contribute to childhood myopia, but it is difficult to adopt recommendations from prior publications as a consistent limitation in the literature is the heterogeneity of research methodology. This review seeks to systematically evaluate how observational studies published during the pandemic have quantified and measured risk factors and myopia in school-going children and adolescents., Methods: Three scientific databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Scopus) were systematically searched from March 2020 to April 2022. Findings from relevant studies were descriptively summarised in relation to the PICOS-based objective of the review., Results: The final sample of 13 studies included research from six countries and comprised 1 411 908 children and adolescents. The majority of studies (N = 10; 76.9%) used spherical equivalent refraction (SER) of -0.5 dioptres or lower as a common definition of myopia. Most studies (77.8%) measuring screen time exposure found it higher during COVID-19 compared to pre-COVID, but only one study used objective measurement of screen time. The average critical appraisal score of the sample was only 66.1%, with a considerable number of studies failing to identify and adjust for potential confounders., Conclusion: Future studies should consider emergent objective and validated measures of risk factors, account for potential a priori confounders and covariates and ensure more representativeness in the sociodemographic makeup of their samples., (© 2023 Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavica Foundation. The intrinsic helical π-conjugated skeleton makes helicenes highly promising for circularly polarized electroluminescence (CPEL). Generally, carbon helicenes undergo low external quantum efficiency (EQE), while the incorporation of a multi-resonance thermally activated delayed fluorescence (MR-TADF) BN structure has led to an improvement. However, the reported B,N-embedded helicenes all show low electroluminescence dissymmetry factors (g EL ), typically around 1×10 -3 . Therefore, the development of B,N-embedded helicenes with both a high EQE and g EL value is crucial for achieving highly efficient CPEL. Herein, a facile approach to synthesize B,N-embedded hetero[9]helicenes, BN[9]H, is presented. BN[9]H shows a bright photoluminescence with a maximum at 578 nm with a high luminescence dissymmetry factor (|g lum |) up to 5.8×10 -3 , attributed to its inherited MR-TADF property and intrinsic helical skeleton. Furthermore, circularly polarized OLED devices incorporating BN[9]H as an emitter show a maximum EQE of 35.5 %, a small full width at half-maximum of 48 nm, and, more importantly, a high |g EL | value of 6.2×10 -3 . The Q-factor (|EQE×g EL |) of CP-OLEDs is determined to be 2.2×10 -3 , which is the highest among helicene analogues. Objective: Patient-reported outcome measures (PROM) are frequently adopted to evaluate colorectal cancer (CRC) care, but the use of patient-reported experience measures (PREM) appears to be underdeveloped and not widely validated. This scoping review aims to understand the contexts for deployment of PREMs in CRC care, reliability of measures, gaps in current use of PREMs, and how PREMs are associated with PROMs when deployed together., Methods: Four scientific databases (PubMed, CINAHL, PsycINFO, Scopus) were systematically searched from January 2011 to December 2023. Observational or interventional studies involving quantitative or mixed methodology with samples consisting CRC patients undergoing screening, treatment, or cancer surveillance and utilizing at least one PREM as an exposure or outcome were included., Results: The initial search resulted in 10,400 records. Only 13 relevant studies (consisting of 17,105 participants) met the eligibility criteria. Utilization of PREMs was heterogenous across our sample and the CRC care continuum, and about half of the studies (53.8%) evaluated the relationship between PREMs and PROMs. PREM usage across the CRC care continuum largely focused on treatment/survivorship. Better care experience was positively associated with improved patient-reported outcomes., Conclusions: Future work in CRC PREM development should focus on (1) establishing validated measures that aim to either capture disease/treatment-specific granularity or capitalize on applicability across care settings, (2) localizing novel or existing PREMs to consider different cultural contexts in healthcare, and (3) benchmarking associations between PREMs, PROMs, and other outcomes of interest., Implications for Cancer Survivors: Individuals progressing through the CRC care continuum often undergo a multitude of procedures from detection and diagnosis to treatment and surveillance. The establishment of validated PREMs specific to CRC would help to benchmark and further improve the quality of care received-which should translate to better patient-reported outcomes-and serve as process indicators for institutions and providers to maintain rigorous health service delivery standard for CRC survivors., (© 2024. Neoschoengastia gallinarum is widely distributed in Asia, preferentially parasitising birds, and heavy infestations have clinical impacts on domestic fowl. In common with other trombiculid mites, the genetic diversity and potential variation in host preferences or pathology induced by N. gallinarum are poorly understood. This study aimed to unravel the geographical variation and population structure of N. gallinarum collected from galliform birds in Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand by inference from concatenated mitochondrial-encoded cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI), and nuclear-encoded internal transcribed spacer 2 (ITS2) and 18S ribosomal DNA gene sequences, including a comparison with previously published data from southeastern China. Our multi-locus sequence analysis revealed three monophyletic clades comprising (A) specimens from Peninsular Malaysia, (B) the samples from Thailand together with a minority of Chinese sequences, and (C) the majority of sequences from China. Similarly, most species delimitation approaches divided the specimens into three operational taxonomic units. Analysis of molecular variance revealed 96.41% genetic divergence between Malaysian and Thai populations, further supported by the absence of gene flow (N m = 0.01). In conclusion, despite the two countries sharing a land border, populations of N. gallinarum from Peninsular Malaysia and Thailand appear to be genetically segregated and may represent distinct cryptic species.
