In this paper, we develop an intercity bus scheduling model for a variable market share. The proposed model, unlike the past intercity bus scheduling models, does not assume a fixed market share. Instead, passenger choice behaviors in competitive markets are considered. The model is formulated as a nonlinear mixed integer program that is characterized as nondeterministic polynomial-time hard. We develop a solution algorithm to efficiently solve the model. The test results, which are based on a major Taiwan intercity bus carrier, show the good performance of the model and the solution algorithm. In past research, airport gate assignments and stochastic disturbances have often been handled in the planning and the real-time stages separately, meaning that the interrelationship between these stages, as affected by such delays, has been neglected. In this research, we develop a heuristic approach embedded in a framework designed to help the airport authorities make airport gate assignments that are sensitive to stochastic flight delays. The framework includes three components, a stochastic gate assignment model, a real-time assignment rule, and two penalty adjustment methods. The test results are based on data supplied by a Taiwan international airport, and show that the proposed framework performs better than the current manual assignment process and the traditional deterministic model. In this research, we develop a short-term flight scheduling model with variable market shares in order to help a Taiwan airline to solve for better fleet routes and flight schedules in today's competitive markets. This study considers the planned gate and runway assignment problem for minimizing carbon emissions and costs during the aircraft taxiing stage. The distances between multiple gates and runways, the fuel consumption of different types of aircraft, the location of terminal buildings belonging to the airline, the size of parking aprons for aircraft, and runway lengths for different types of aircraft are all considered. We propose the following two objectives: the minimization of carbon emissions and the minimization of carbon emission costs for airport and for airlines, respectively. A case study based on operations of Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport is performed. Analytical results indicate that our assignments can achieve an 8.93% reduction of carbon emissions and 10.33% reduction of carbon emission costs compared with the current assignments. SUMMARY This work presents an analysis of the fleet size determination problem for a truckload distribution center in which each customer requests multi-truckload services. A transformation is made to define this problem as a cutting stock problem which can be resolved by finding the proper set of patterns beneficial for an NP-hard (non-deterministic polynomial-time hard) problem. The genetic algorithm (GA) is combined with cutting stock techniques to solve the problem. Experiments are carried out testing two types of problems, with and without time-window constraints. To verify the solution quality obtained with the proposed approach, the problem is also solved using only GA. SUMMARY It is often the case in actual airport operations that flight departure/arrival information will vary with time. In practice, flight departure/arrival times closer to the time when the airport authority starts to plan the reassignments tend to be more certain; those further away tend to be more stochastic. These two types of flights can be called deterministic flights and stochastic flights, respectively. A deterministic flight has a certain departure/arrival time; while a stochastic flight will have a variety of stochastic departure/arrival times. In this study the aim is to develop a gate reassignment model (GRM) designed to consider both deterministic and stochastic flight departure/arrival times. A 0-1 integer programming technique is applied to formulate the GRM. In practice gate reassignments need to be handled repeatedly, so to make this possible the GRM is applied to a dynamic gate reassignment framework (DGRF). The theoretical effectiveness of the GRM applied to the DGRF is evaluated by the development of a lower bound solution. The shared self-service check-in system can effectively alleviate the tension of airport caused by limited resources in the future. The effective allocation of resources is the key to improving the performance of this collaborative work system. In this paper, an associative decision integer programming model is established to quantitatively describe the total baggage handling time of the collaborative work system by using piece-wise functions under different allocation schemes. In order to meet passengers' expectation of queuing time, the queue system is optimized to constrain the service level, and eventually the system efficiency is significantly improved. The discrete event simulation results show that the allocation scheme generated by the model can not only largely improve the equipment utilization rate by 124%, but is also able to shorten the queuing time of passengers by 72.8%, which provides the possibility to comprehensively optimize and improve the efficiency of future airport baggage handling systems. This study determines the top fifty authors in China and their university affiliations in the maritime transportation field, compared to their world ranking. We refer to China in the broad sense of the Chinese economies, including not only mainland China and Hong Kong, but also Chinese Taipei (Taiwan) and Singapore. This study analyzes sixty-five SSCI and SCI journals in the field of maritime and transportation between the years 2000 and 2015. In terms of ranking, three indicators are employed: total number of articles, weighted score (indication of author contribution), and the impact score. With the exception of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, no other universities selected in the first phase of Project 985, which received billions of dollars in government support/aid, were listed in the world ranking. Star authors are deemed to have contributed greatly to the rankings of their affiliated universities. The future of China's rankings is bright in view of the increasing number of papers being published by Chinese authors and universities and their strong grounding in quantitative methodologies. This paper explores passengers' perceptions toward airport service quality through a content analysis. Using 1341 review comments posted on the Skytrax website, we identify satisfiers, dissatisfiers, and performance factors that determine passengers' experiences at the Honolulu International Airport and the world's leading airports (Singapore Changi Airport, Haneda Airport, Incheon International Airport, Hamad International Airport, and Hong Kong International Airport). The results show that the Honolulu International Airport needs to improve cleanliness of the facilities, signage, and staff courtesy. A context-specific examination reveals that security, check, flight, line, and staff are the most frequently occurring words used by dissatisfied passengers. The most common words mentioned by satisfied users of the world's leading airports include staff, terminal, clean, time, immigration, and free. These findings provide suggestions and implications concerning customers' perspectives and may help airport managers enhance airport service quality and renovate airport facilities.
