1. Collective dynamics of dense systems of active polar disks in circular confinement

Abstract

We study the emerging collective states in a simple mechanical model of a dense group of self-propelled polar disks confined within a circular arena. Each disk has its center of rotation located at a distance R behind its centroid, so its central linear contact forces can produce torques leading to mutual alignment. Each disk is thus affected by this mutual alignment to its neighbors' orientations and by self-alignment (resulting from disk-substrate interactions) towards the sum of forces over it. The effect of both alignment mechanisms produces a variety of collective states combining high-frequency localized circular oscillations with low-frequency milling around the center of the arena, in fluid or solid regimes. We consider cases with small/large R values, isotropic/anisotropic disk-substrate damping, smooth/rough arena boundaries, different densities, and multiple systems sizes, showing that the identified emergent collective states are robust, generic, and potentially observable in real-world natural or artificial systems., Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures

Abstract

In the process of civil aviation safety production, countries and organizations have unified the establishment of a mandatory accident reporting system. In addition, in order to prevent aviation accidents and accident symptoms to the maximum extent, and to obtain as detailed information as possible in the first time when accidents, accident symptoms and other civil aviation unsafe incidents occur, Countries and organizations should also establish a non-punitive voluntary aviation incident reporting system to complement this. NASA in the 1970s began to establish the aviation voluntary reporting system, the system ASRS later became the world’s first implementation of the aviation safety voluntary reporting system. This paper is a comprehensive study on the voluntary reporting system for civil aviation safety. By using data mining technology, the 6W structured expression model of aviation safety accident report is established on the basis of ASRS system for aviation safety accident report, and the information of different dimensions and different data structures is studied completely and systematically. According to the data types in the 6W structured representation model, two data mining methods of multi-dimension analysis and text classification are selected.

The purpose of this study was to establish a risk prediction model to predict the individual risk of allodynia in herpetic neuralgia.Methods: Three hundred and eighty-six patients with trunk herpetic neuralgia were divided into two regions, T2-5 and T6-11. The causality between allodynia and other factors was analyzed by a binary logistic regression model.Results: 42.2% of subjects had allodynia, 137 suffered from dynamic allodynia, and 110 with dynamic allodynia experienced local sweating. The following 5 items as predictors determined this model: local sweating (Odd Ratio =  27.57, P< 0.001), lesion location (Odd Ratio=2.46, P =0.017), pain intensity (Odd Ratio=1.38, P =0.020), pain duration (Odd Ratio=0.94, P =0.006), and local scars (Odd Ratio=0.07, P< 0.001). Repeated-measures analyses of variance were used to evaluate the effect on pain levels. Generalized estimation equations were used to analyze the cause-effect relationship between pain fluctuations and influencing factors.Results: At the treatment endpoint, the group, treatment time, and group interacted with treatment time effects of the pain scores and area were statistically significant (P< 0.001), The pain scores were 2.9 ± 0.9 (MI) and 4.3 ± 1.5 (PO). 80.00% (MI) or 28.21% (PO) of patients had pain scores ≤ 3, the odds ratio was 2.84 (95% CI: 1.68 to 4.79). 13. Sex and age differences in adolescents' value judgements of historically important events: theory, stereotypes and data

Abstract

The extent to which younger and older adolescents differed in their value judgments of historically important events was examined. Subjects were asked to list the ten most important events that happened in or to th U.S. since 1900. The subjects' choices were analyzed as a function of sex, age, political and religious orientation, and family size. In addition, 100 undergraduates were asked to serve as judges and predict which categories would be cited more frequently by males and which females. Results indicated that the judges' predictions did not match the data. Age was a much better predictor of value judgements than sex. Further, several additional differences in value judgments were revealed that would have been missed had only the variables of sex and age been included in the analyses.

Abstract

Ureido-functionalized mesoporous polyvinyl alcohol/silica composite nanofibre membranes were prepared by electrospinning technology and their application for removal of Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ from wastewater was discussed. The characteristics of the membranes were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and N 2 adsorption-desorption analysis. Results show that the membranes have long fibrous shapes and worm-like mesoporous micromorphologies. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy confirmed the membranes were successfully functionalized with ureido groups. Pb 2+ and Cu 2+ adsorption behavior on the membranes followed a pseudo-second-order nonlinear kinetic model with approximately 30 minutes to equilibrium. Pb 2+ adsorption was modelled using a Langmuir isotherm model with maximum adsorption capacity of 26.96 mg g -1 . However, Cu 2+ adsorption was well described by a Freundlich isotherm model with poor adsorption potential due to the tendency to form chelating complexes with several ureido groups. Notably, the membranes were easily regenerated through acid treatment, and maintained adsorption capacity of 91.87% after five regeneration cycles, showing potential for applications in controlling heavy metals-related pollution and metals reuse.
