Light has profoundly impacted modern medicine and healthcare, with numerous luminescent agents and imaging techniques currently being used to assess health and treat diseases. As an emerging concept in luminescence, aggregation-induced emission (AIE) has shown great potential in biological applications due to its advantages in terms of brightness, biocompatibility, photostability, and positive correlation with concentration. This review provides a comprehensive summary of AIE luminogens applied in imaging of biological structure and dynamic physiological processes, disease diagnosis and treatment, and detection and monitoring of specific analytes, followed by representative works. Discussions on critical issues and perspectives on future directions are also included. This review aims to stimulate the interest of researchers from different fields, including chemistry, biology, materials science, medicine, etc., thus promoting the development of AIE in the fields of life and health.

Using recycled concrete aggregates (RCAs) in concrete is a promising approach to minimise the environmental impacts associated with construction and demolition waste while simultaneously enhancing the sustainability of concrete. Improving the quality of RCAs is crucial for promoting confidence among materials suppliers and systematic utilisation of RCAs in construction. Pristine graphene (PG) suspensions (0.1% and 0.2% concentrations in water) were investigated for improving the properties of RCAs and thereby improving the mechanical and durability properties of concretes made with 100% RCAs as coarse aggregates. Two PG treatment methods were used – spraying and soaking. Nano-silica (NS) suspensions of the same concentrations were also used for comparison. Tests for axial compressive, splitting tensile and flexural strengths were performed; water absorption and drying shrinkage were also assessed. Microanalysis was conducted using scanning electron microscopy and micro computed tomography. PG was found to be more effective than NS for increasing strength properties and reducing water absorption and drying shrinkage of concrete due to its lower porosity. For a given nanomaterial concentration and type, concretes made with soaked RCA exhibited higher strengths and lower water absorption and drying shrinkage than concretes with sprayed RCA. The concretes made with soaked RCA also had lower porosity and fewer microcracks. The results are promising and indicate that treating RCAs reduces their water absorption, thereby improving concrete performance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Flexible force sensors show great potential applications in smart wearable devices based on their softness and ease of deformation. Textiles are extremely compatible with the human body, where mechanical forces generated by human movements and physiological activities create rich application scenarios for flexible force sensors. Currently, the bottleneck in the development of flexible sensors depends on the breakthrough of mass production efficiency, which has been a research focus in recent years to accelerate the application of smart textiles in various fields. This work reviews the research progress of flexible force sensors based on fiber assemblies with mass production efficiency, which is discussed in four aspects: sensing mechanisms, structure design, preparation methods, and application. Finally, the challenges faced by mass production of flexible force sensors are analyzed and summarized, and a few inspirations for their future development direction are provided. Borophene 2D nanosheets of boron and the evolving group III trans-graphene are a potential material for a plethora of applications; however, they have not been well explored due to the ambiguity in their electronic configuration and consequent polymorphism. Here, we introduced liquid-phase treatments utilizing surfactants exfoliating boron to 2D borophene. Poly-(ethelyene glycol) (PEG) polymeric chains with neutral characteristics simultaneously with surfactants of cationic and anionic characteristics, respectively, as cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) were utilized to constructively engineer a β rhombohedral crystal structure in borophene layers. These engineered borophene layers, on further analyzing their electrochemical performance by hydrogen evolution reactions, showed a heightened efficacy for borophene sheets synthesized in the presence of PEG, characterized by a Tafel slope of 178 mV/dec in a 0.5 M H2SO4 solution. This enhanced performance was intricately linked to the elevated quality of the borophene sheets during PEG-assisted liquid-phase treatment and to the increased accessibility of active sites characterized by the β rhombohedral crystal lattices engineered by PEG polymeric chains. In order to address the issues of energy depletion, more resources are being searched for in the deep sea. Therefore, research into how the deep-sea environment affects cement-based materials for underwater infrastructure is required. This paper examines the impact of ocean depth (0, 500, 1000, and 1500 m) on the ion interaction processes in concrete nanopores using molecular dynamics simulations. At the portlandite interface, the local structural and kinetic characteristics of ions and water molecules are examined. The findings show that the portlandite surface hydrophilicity is unaffected by increasing depth. The density profile and coordination number of ions alter as depth increases, and the diffusion speed noticeably decreases. The main cause of the ions' reduced diffusion velocity is expected to be the low temperature. This work offers a thorough understanding of the cement hydration products' microstructure in deep sea, which may help explain why cement-based underwater infrastructure deteriorates over time.
