Abstract Background High-frequency ventilation (HFV) is commonly used in neonatal intensive care units to provide respiratory support for critically ill neonates. Currently, there is no standardized procedure for weaning from HFV. Two commonly used strategies are transitioning from HFV to conventional mechanical ventilation (CMV) before extubation (HFV-CMV) and extubation after decreasing mean airway pressure during HFV (HFV-HFV). The impact of these strategies on neonatal cerebral oxygenation and hemodynamics remains incompletely understood. Methods We will conduct a prospective, single-center, randomized controlled trial to investigate the effects of two different HFV weaning strategies (HFV-CMV, HFV-HFV) on neonatal cerebral oxygenation and hemodynamics. The patients enrolled in the trial will be randomly allocated to either the HFV-CMV group or the HFV-HFV group in a 1:1 ratio. The primary outcome will be cerebral oxygen saturation (ScO2) before and after the intervention. Second outcomes are cerebral fractional tissue oxygen extraction, heart rate, blood pressure, and the incidence and severity of intraventricular hemorrhage and periventricular leukomalacia. We hypothesize that HFV-CMV results in positive impact on neonatal cerebral oxygenation compared to HFV-HFV. This study aims to identify a better weaning strategy for HFV and contribute evidence-based data to enhance its clinical application in newborns, potentially improving the care and outcomes for neonates receiving HFV. Discussion This study aims to assessing the impact of different HFV weaning strategies on neonatal cerebral oxygenation and hemodynamics, as well as the relationship between the duration of HFV under different strategies and neurological complications, to identify better weaning methods for HFV. We hope to contribute evidence-based data to enhance clinical application of HFV in newborns, potentially improving the care and outcomes for neonates receiving HFV. In response to the issue of Chinese language teacher attrition in Myanmar, this study aimed to examine the professional commitment of these teachers, with a focus on how their commitment is constructed and shaped within the local context. The study adopted a theoretical lens of positive psychology and utilized a hermeneutic phenomenological approach. Data was collected through semi-structured interviews in which 10 participants shared their life stories. Thematic analysis was then conducted to identify key themes. The study proposed a positive-psychology-informed model with motivation, meaning, and perseverance as the three key components that interact with each other to jointly shape teachers' professional commitment. In particular, motivation to teach is a precondition, the meaning-making process functions as reinforcement, and perseverance in coping with adverse situations is the ultimate embodiment of teachers' professional commitment. A common feature underlying this model has been traces of the teachers' positive emotions, attitudes, and values. Furthermore, the study approached Chinese language teachers' professional commitment in the situated context at cultural, societal, and institutional levels. The study yields theoretical implications for understanding teacher commitment and offers practical insights for addressing the issue of attrition among Chinese language teachers in Myanmar and similar contexts.

English medium instruction (EMI) has now become a ubiquitous education phenomenon due to the driving force of globalization and the prospective socioeconomic benefits associated with English proficiency. Although expanding rapidly in higher education, EMI in secondary education is a much less researched area. Specifically, EMI teachers' agency in the implementation of EMI has remained relatively less known. This study, informed by an extended framework on teacher agency, seeks to investigate how such agency has been manifested while the EMI teachers address various tensions and contradictions in the course of implementing EMI. Drawing on qualitative interviews and classroom observations in an international high school in Shenzhen, China, it reveals that the participants have exhibited moderately high levels of agency by constructing themselves as translanguagers who orchestrate different languages and meaning-making resources, jugglers of the roles of content teachers and L2 teachers, as well as duty-bond multicultural educators who negotiate the international curriculum to accommodate local educational and cultural mandates. The study calls for reconceptualizing EMI as a translanguaging space for the teachers to act as culturally responsive agents qua multilingual educators featuring multiple identities.

Abstract Nanobodies (Nbs), the smallest antigen-binding fragments with high stability and affinity derived from the variable domain of naturally occurring heavy-chain-only antibodies in camelids, have been shown as an efficient way to improve the specificity to tumors for photodynamic therapy (PDT). Nonetheless, the rapid clearance of Nbs in vivo restricts the accumulation and retention of the photosensitizer at the tumor site causing insufficient therapeutic outcome, especially in large-volume tumors. Herein, we develop photodynamic conjugates, MNB-Pyra Nbs, through site-specific conjugation between 7D12 Nbs and type I photosensitizer MNB-Pyra (morpholine-modified nile blue structure connected to pyrazolinone) in a 1:2 ratio. The photosensitizers with long-term retention can be released at the tumor site by reactive oxygen species cleavage after illumination, accompanied with fluorescence recovery for self-reporting the occurrence of PDT. Ultimately, a single dose of MNB-Pyra Nbs demonstrate highly effective tumor suppression with high biosafety in the large-volume tumor models after three rounds of PDT. This nanobody conjugate provides a paradigm for the design of precise long-time retention photosensitizers and is expected to promote the development of PDT.

Purpose: Head injury criterion (HIC) companied by a rotation-based metric was widely believed to be helpful for head injury prediction in road traffic accidents. Recently, the Euro-New Car Assessment Program utilized a newly developed metric called diffuse axonal multi-axis general evaluation (DAMAGE) to explain test device for human occupant restraint (THOR) head injury, which demonstrated excellent ability in capturing concussions and diffuse axonal injuries. However, there is still a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding the effectiveness of using DAMAGE for Hybrid Ⅲ 50th percentile male dummy (H50th) head injury assessment. The objective of this study is to determine whether the DAMAGE could capture the risk of H50th brain injury during small overlap barrier tests. Methods: To achieve this objective, a total of 24 vehicle crash loading curves were collected as input data for the multi-body simulation. Two commercially available mathematical dynamic models, namely H50th and THOR, were utilized to investigate the differences in head injury response. Subsequently, a decision method known as simple additive weighting was employed to establish a comprehensive brain injury metric by incorporating the weighted HIC and either DAMAGE or brain injury criterion. Furthermore, 35 sets of vehicle crash test data were used to analyze these brain injury metrics. Results: The rotational displacement of the THOR head is significantly greater than that of the H50th head. The maximum linear and rotational head accelerations experienced by H50th and THOR models were (544.6 ± 341.7) m/s2, (2468.2 ± 1309.4) rad/s2 and (715.2 ± 332.8) m/s2, (3778.7 ± 1660.6) rad/s2, respectively. Under the same loading condition during small overlap barrier (SOB) tests, THOR exhibits a higher risk of head injury compared to the H50th model. It was observed that the overall head injury response during the small overlap left test condition is greater than that during the small overlap right test. Additionally, an equation was formulated to establish the necessary relationship between the DAMAGE values of THOR and H50th. Conclusion: If H50th rather than THOR is employed as an evaluation tool in SOB crash tests, newly designed vehicles are more likely to achieve superior performance scores. According to the current injury curve for DAMAGE and brain injury criterion, it is highly recommended that HIC along with DAMAGE was prioritized for brain injury assessment in SOB tests.

ABSTRACTThe emergence of Anaplasma bovis or A. bovis-like infection in humans from China and the United States of America has raised concern about the public health importance of this pathogen. Although A. bovis has been detected in a wide range of ticks and mammals in the world, no genome of the pathogen is available up to now, which has prohibited us from better understanding the genetic basis for its pathogenicity. Here we describe an A. bovis genome from metagenomic sequencing of an infected goat in China. Anaplasma bovis had the smallest genome of the genus Anaplasma, and relatively lower GC content. Phylogenetic analysis of single-copy orthologue sequence showed that A. bovis was closely related to A. platys and A. phagocytophilum, but relatively far from intraerythrocytic Anaplasma species. Anaplasma bovis had 116 unique orthogroups and lacked 51 orthogroups in comparison to other Anaplasma species. The virulence factors of A. bovis were significantly less than those of A. phagocytophilum, suggesting less pathogenicity of A. bovis. When tested by specific PCR assays, A. bovis was detected in 23 of 29 goats, with an infection rate up to 79.3% (95% CI: 64.6% ∼94.1%). The phylogenetic analyses based on partial 16S rRNA, gltA and groEL genes indicated that A. bovis had high genetic diversity. The findings of this study lay a foundation for further understanding of the biological characteristics and genetic diversity of A. bovis, and will facilitate the formulation of prevention and control strategies.

ABSTRACT Coal workers’ pneumoconiosis (CWP) is a severe occupational disease resulting from prolonged exposure to coal dust. However, its pathogenesis remains elusive, compounded by a lack of early detection markers and effective treatments. Although the impact of gut microbiota on lung diseases is acknowledged, its specific role in CWP is unclear. This study aims to explore changes in the gut microbiome and metabolome in CWP, while also assessing the correlation between gut microbes and alterations in lung function. Fecal specimens from 43 CWP patients and 48 dust-exposed workers (DEW) were examined using 16S rRNA gene sequencing for microbiota and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry for metabolite profiling. We observed similar gut microbial α-diversity but significant differences in flora composition (β-diversity) between patients with CWP and the DEW group. After adjusting for age using multifactorial linear regression analysis (MaAsLin2), the distinct gut microbiome profile in CWP patients revealed an increased presence of pro-inflammatory microorganisms such as Klebsiella and Haemophilus. Furthermore, in CWP patients, alterations in gut microbiota—particularly reduced α-diversity and changes in microbial composition—were significantly correlated with impaired pulmonary function, a relationship not observed in DEW. This underscores the specific impact of gut microbiota on pulmonary health in individuals with CWP. Metabolomic analysis of fecal samples from CWP patients and DEW identified 218 differential metabolites between the two groups, with a predominant increase in metabolites in CWP patients, suggesting enhanced metabolic activity in CWP. Key altered metabolites included various lipids, amino acids, and organic compounds, with silibinin emerging as a potential biomarker. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes pathway enrichment analysis linked these metabolites to pathways relevant to the development of pulmonary fibrosis. Additionally, studies on the interaction between microbiota and metabolites showed positive correlations between certain bacteria and increased metabolites in CWP, further elucidating the complex interplay in this disease state. Our findings suggest a potential contributory role of gut microbiota in CWP pathogenesis through metabolic regulation, with implications for diagnostic biomarkers and understanding disease mechanisms, warranting further molecular investigation.IMPORTANCEThe findings have significant implications for the early diagnosis and treatment of coal workers’ pneumoconiosis, highlighting the potential of gut microbiota as diagnostic biomarkers. They pave the way for new research into gut microbiota-based therapeutic strategies, potentially focusing on modifying gut microbiota to mitigate disease progression.

Abstract Spotted fever group rickettsiae (SFGR) are obligate intracellular bacteria that cause spotted fever. The limitations of gene manipulation pose great challenges to studying the infection mechanisms of Rickettsia. By combining bioorthogonal metabolism and click chemistry, we developed a method to label R. heilongjiangensis via azide moieties and achieved rapid pathogen localization without complex procedures. Moreover, we constructed a C57BL/6 mice infection model by simulating tick bites and discovered that the stomach is the target organ of R. heilongjiangensis infection through in vivo imaging systems, which explained the occurrence of gastrointestinal symptoms following R. heilongjiangensis infection in some cases. This study offers a unique perspective for subsequent investigations into the pathogenic mechanisms of SFGR and identifies a potential target organ for R. heilongjiangensis.

The Forchheimer equation is one of the basic equations widely used in non-Darcy seepage. The determination of coefficients A and B in the equation has always been a hotspot and difficulty in the field of porous media seepage. Different studies have proposed various empirical formulas for the coefficients A and B from seepage experiments. However, there are few studies evaluating the applicability of each empirical formula under homogeneous condition and heterogeneous with mixed particle size. In this study, to provide basic information for selecting the empirical formula of the Forchheimer equation under different porous media conditions, the normalized objective function (NOF) and linear regression method are used to evaluate the applicability of the empirical formula of the Forchheimer equation, on the basis of the seepage resistance experiment. The results show that: for homogeneous porous media, Sidiropoulou’s formula has a good prediction effect on hydraulic gradient. For the porous media mixed two kinds of particle size, the mass ratio and size factors of the mixed particle size should be considered based on the average particle size. The prediction effect of the Macdonald formula is slightly affected by the mass ratio and the mixed particle size; while the predicted hydraulic gradient from the Kadlecan and Knight formula is relatively stable. As to the porous media mixed five kinds of particle size, the predictive effect of using d60 as the characteristic particle size is fine.The Kadlecan and Knight formula is suitable to predict coefficient A, and the Ergun formula is effective to predict coefficient B. This study can provide a basis for selecting the Forchheimer equation for seepage of homogeneous and heterogeneous loose sand and gravel porous media in engineering.

Abstract Background In Eukaryotes, inositol polyphosphates (InsPs) represent a large family of secondary messengers and play crucial roes in various cellular processes. InsPs are synthesized through a series of pohophorylation reactions catalyzed by various InsP kinases in a sequential manner. Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate 3-kinase (IP3 3-kinase/IP3K), one member of InsP kinase, plays important regulation roles in InsPs metabolism by specifically phosphorylating inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP3) to inositol 1,3,4,5-tetrakisphosphate (IP4) in animal cells. IP3Ks were widespread in fungi, plants and animals. However, its evolutionary history and patterns have not been examined systematically. Results A total of 104 and 31 IP3K orthologues were identified across 57 plant genomes and 13 animal genomes, respectively. Phylogenetic analyses indicate that IP3K originated in the common ancestor before the divergence of fungi, plants and animals. In most plants and animals, IP3K maintained low-copy numbers suggesting functional conservation during plant and animal evolution. In Brassicaceae and vertebrate, IP3K underwent one and two duplication events, respectively, resulting in multiple gene copies. Whole-genome duplication (WGD) was the main mechanism for IP3K duplications, and the IP3K duplicates have experienced functional divergence. Finally, a hypothetical evolutionary model for the IP3K proteins is proposed based on phylogenetic theory. Conclusion Our study reveals the evolutionary history of IP3K proteins and guides the future functions of animal, plant, and fungal IP3K proteins.

Epidural hematoma typically manifests following craniocerebral trauma, stemming from injury to the meningeal artery or venous system, predominantly on one side. Instances of spontaneous epidural hematoma are uncommon, with occurrences of spontaneous bilateral epidural hematoma being exceedingly rare. Sickle cell disease, adjacent paranasal sinusitis, and tumor metastases are the most prevalent causes of spontaneous epidural hematoma. This case study presents an individual with abdominal liposarcoma exhibiting reduced coagulation factor XII activity, who experienced sudden unconsciousness due to spontaneous acute bilateral epidural hematoma, and subsequently achieved a favorable outcome following surgical intervention.

Solar-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) is strongly correlated with gross primary productivity (GPP). Satellite-observed canopy SIF (SIFobs) captures only a part of the total leaf-emitted SIF (SIFtotal); therefore, SIFobs may hinder the interpretation of the physiological mechanism for GPP estimation. Furthermore, there are still significant discrepancies in the estimated SIFobs escape ratio (fesc) from the canopy to the leaf level with current methods. Here, we selected several vegetation canopy variables and downscaled SIFobs based on the Soil Canopy Observation, Photochemistry and Energy fluxes (SCOPE) model from the canopy to the leaf level using machine learning (ML) algorithms and then applied our method to the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) near-infrared (NIR) SIFobs. The results showed that simulating the fesc with SIFobs, TROPOMI NIR reflectance, and the fraction of photosynthetically active radiation (FPAR) avoided the effects of different sun-sensor geometry conditions introduced by different sensors and was more suitable for satellite-observed SIFobs downscaling. Our downscaled SIFtotal also correlated well with the flux site GPP in areas with sparse vegetation types. SIFtotal better reflected the photosynthetic differences among vegetation types and showed an enhanced relationship with absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (APAR) compared with SIFobs. We provide an efficient canopy-to-leaf SIFobs downscaling method improved SIFtotal and GPP estimation, and our results also demonstrated the potential for using SIFobs as vegetation information in sparse coverage areas.

BackgroundThe effects of blood transfusions on splanchnic oxygenation and complications related to blood transfusions, including red blood cell (RBC) transfusions, in premature infants undergoing enteral feeding, to provide clinical evidence for a management protocol for premature infants during the peri-transfusion period.MethodsThis single-blind, randomized, controlled trial enrolled sixty eligible preterm infants who were randomly divided into the withholding feeding group (n = 30) or feeding group (n = 30). Enteral feeding was withheld for 8 h, beginning from the start of transfusion infants in the feeding group were fed according to the pre-transfusion feeding approach during and after RBC transfusion.ResultsBaseline characteristics of those in the withholding and feeding groups were as follows: gestational age (weeks) 27.52 (24.86–30.14) and 27.13 (25.43–30.14); birth weight (g), 1,027 (620–1,450) and 1,027 (620–1,270); blood transfusion day, 48 (14–79) and 39 (10–78); and hemoglobin before blood transfusion (g/L), 81.67 (±10.56) and 85.93 (±14.77). No significant differences were observed between groups at baseline. No significant differences were observed in the average splanchnic tissue oxygenation changes or clinical results at any time. One patient in the withholding feeding group experienced transfusion-associated necrotizing enterocolitis.ConclusionsNo differences in splanchnic oxygenation observed these feeding protocols. This study suggests the feasibility of a sizable trial to evaluate clinical outcomes. The risks of mesenteric ischemia and transfusion-related necrotizing enterocolitis for premature infants were not increased by enteral feeding during RBC transfusion.Clinical trial registrationChiCTR2200055726 (https://www.chictr.org.cn/).

In order to characterize the local damage and fatigue strength of 5754 and 5052 aluminum alloy cross-welded joints containing pre-cracks under impact loading, an interval fatigue life prediction approach is presented based on the continuum damage mechanics and the uncertain interval analysis technique. The impact test is carried out on the cruciform welded joints of dissimilar lightweight metals with U-type pre-crack located at the middle edge of specimen. In consideration of uncertain factors caused by the welding process, the interval fatigue damage model under the coupling effect of fatigue and impact load is established. Then, the interval fatigue parameters and interval curve between stress amplitudes and fatigue life are determined. The impact process is simulated by using the finite element dynamic analysis to obtain the stress and plastic strain fields. Based on the suggested model, the predicted results agree well with the experimental data.

Abstract Sequencing strategies have continually advanced, with high-throughput sequencing (HTS) technologies emerging as pivotal tools in plant phylogenomics. As a standard form of target capture sequencing, hybridization target enrichment sequencing (Hyb-seq) is innovative and flexible, and then HTS strategy is widely adopted in phylogenomics. The universal Angiosperms353 probe sets (Angiosperms353) are instrumental in Hyb-seq and have been witnessed increased application in recent years. This review integrates numerous publications and empirical datasets to comprehensively assess the potential applications of Angiosperms353. Through evaluations using 18-taxa and 343-taxa genomic datasets, this review explores potential factors influencing Angiosperms353 gene capture. The RNA-seq strategy yielded the highest number of Angiosperms353 genes, followed by whole-genome sequencing and genome skimming. Increased sequencing depth enhanced gene capture yields, and no evident bias was observed across all tested angiosperm groups. In the genomics era with extensive HTS data, this review provides comprehensive guidelines for the practical application of Angiosperms353, promoting resource recycling and maximizing genomic data sharing and utilization.

Landslides are the most serious geological disaster in our country, causing economic losses. Because they go undetected, a large number of landslides that have caused disasters are not in the catalogue. At present, Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) has been widely used in the identification of landslides. However, it is time-consuming, inefficient, etc., to survey landslides throughout our large country. In the context of massive SAR data, this problem is more obvious. Therefore, based on the current technique of using differential interferogram phase gradient stacking to avoid phase unwrapping errors, a landslide phase gradient dataset has been constructed. To validate the dataset’s effectiveness and applicability, deep learning methods were introduced, applying the dataset to four networks: U-Net, Attention-Unet, Bisenet v2, and Deeplab v3. The results indicate that the phase gradient dataset performs well across different models, with the Attention-Unet network demonstrating the best performance. Specifically, the precision, recall, and accuracy on the test dataset were 0.8771, 0.8712, and 0.9834, respectively, and the accuracy on the validation dataset was 0.8523. Finally, in this paper, the model is applied to landslide identification in Gansu Province, China, during 2022-2023, and a total of 1882 landslides are found. These landslides are mainly concentrated in the south of Gansu Province, where the terrain is relatively undulating. The results show that this method can quickly and accurately realize landslide automatic identification in a wide area and provide technical support for large-scale landslide disaster surveys.

Abstract Remote sensing technology, which conventionally employs spectrometers to capture hyperspectral images, allowing for the classification and unmixing based on the reflectance spectrum, has been extensively applied in diverse fields, including environmental monitoring, land resource management, and agriculture. However, miniaturization of remote sensing systems remains a challenge due to the complicated and dispersive optical components of spectrometers. Here, m‐phase GaTe0.5Se0.5 with wide‐spectral photoresponses (250–1064 nm) and stack it with WSe2 are utilizes to construct a two‐dimensional van der Waals heterojunction (2D‐vdWH), enabling the design of a gate‐tunable wide‐spectral photodetector. By utilizing the multi‐photoresponses under varying gate voltages, high accuracy recognition can be achieved aided by deep learning algorithms without the original hyperspectral reflectance data. The proof‐of‐concept device, featuring dozens of tunable gate voltages, achieves an average classification accuracy of 87.00% on 6 prevalent hyperspectral datasets, which is competitive with the accuracy of 250–1000 nm hyperspectral data (88.72%) and far superior to the accuracy of non‐tunable photoresponse (71.17%). Artificially designed gate‐tunable wide‐spectral 2D‐vdWHs GaTe0.5Se0.5/WSe2‐based photodetector present a promising pathway for the development of miniaturized and cost‐effective remote sensing classification technology.

The start of the growing season (SOS) plays a pivotal role in the intricate interplay between climate and terrestrial ecosystems. Since the late 1990 s, a slowdown in SOS advancing trend has been documented across numerous regions in the Northern Hemisphere. However, it remains uncertain whether a commensurate slowdown in the SOS advancing trend has manifested in northern temperate and boreal forests. Therefore, our effort is dedicated to unraveling the change in SOS both before and after the late 1990 s and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms causing this phenomenon. Our findings show that despite an overall increase in preseason temperature in northern temperate and boreal forests, an unexpected slowdown in the SOS advancing trend has occurred between 1999 and 2015, primarily due to a decrease in SOS temperature sensitivity. Furthermore, we have identified two distinct effects of preseason precipitation on SOS temperature sensitivity. As preseason precipitation increases, SOS temperature sensitivity experiences an increment of 0.34 days/°C∙10 mm, up to a preseason precipitation threshold of 70 mm, after which it undergoes a reduction at a rate of 0.12 days/°C∙10 mm. Our results provide valuable insights into understanding how SOS responds to ongoing climate warming in northern temperate and boreal forests. In addition, we have, for the first time, identified two distinct regulatory mechanisms governing SOS temperature sensitivity in relation to preseason precipitation before and after the 70 mm threshold, opening new avenues for the development of more accurate phenological models.

Dermacentor nuttalli, a member of family Ixodidae and genus Dermacentor, is predominantly found in North Asia. It transmits various pathogens of human and animal diseases, such as Lymphocytic choriomeningitis mammarenavirus and Brucella ovis, leading to severe symptoms in patients and posing serious hazards to livestock husbandry. To profile pathogen abundances of wild D. nuttalli, metagenomic sequencing was performed of four field-collected tick samples, revealing that Rickettsia, Streptomyces, and Pseudomonas were the most abundant bacterial genera in D. nuttalli. Specifically, four nearly complete Rickettsia genomes were assembled, closely relative to Rickettsia conorii subsp. raoultii. Then, a comprehensive meta-analysis was performed to evaluate its potential threats based on detected pathogens and geographical distribution positions reported in literature, reference books, related websites, and field surveys. At least 48 pathogens were identified, including 20 species of bacteria, seven species of eukaryota, and 21 species of virus. Notably, Rickettsia conorii subsp. raoultii, Coxiella burnetii, and Brucella ovis displayed remarkably high positivity rates, which were known to cause infectious diseases in both humans and livestock. Currently, the primary distribution of D. nuttalli spans China, Mongolia, and Russia. However, an additional 14 countries in Asia and America that may also be affected by D. nuttalli were identified in our niche model, despite no previous reports of its presence in these areas. This study provides comprehensive data and analysis on the pathogens carried by D. nuttalli, along with documented and potential distribution, suggesting an emerging threat to public health and animal husbandry. Therefore, there is a need for heightened surveillance and thorough investigation of D. nuttalli.

Abstract. Background:. Extreme temperature events, including extreme cold, are becoming more frequent worldwide, which might be harmful to pregnant women and cause adverse birth outcomes. We aimed to investigate the association between exposure to low ambient temperature in pregnant women and adverse birth outcomes, such as preterm birth, low birth weight, and stillbirth, and to summarize the evidence herein. Methods:. Relevant studies were searched in PubMed, Cochrane, and Embase electronic databases until November 2021. Studies involving low ambient temperature, preterm birth, birth weight, and stillbirth were included. The guidelines of the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses were followed to conduct this study risk of bias and methods for data synthesis. Results:. Abstract Mechanosensitive (MS) ion channels provide efficient molecular mechanism for transducing mechanical forces into intracellular ion fluxes in all kingdoms of life. The mechanosensitive channel of small conductance (MscS) was one of the best-studied MS channels and its homologs (MSL, MscS-like) were widely distributed in cell-walled organisms. However, the origin, evolution and expansion of MSL proteins in plants are still not clear. Here, we identified more than 2100 MSL proteins from 176 plants and conducted a broad-scale phylogenetic analysis. The phylogenetic tree showed that plant MSL proteins were divided into three groups (I, II and III) prior to the emergence of chlorophytae algae, consistent with their specific subcellular localization. MSL proteins were distributed unevenly into each of plant species, and four parallel expansion was identified in angiosperms. In Brassicaceae, most MSL duplicates were derived by whole-genome duplication (WGD)/segmental duplications. Finally, a hypothetical evolutionary model of MSL proteins in plants was proposed based on phylogeny. Our studies illustrate the evolutionary history of the MSL proteins and provide a guide for future functional diversity analyses of these proteins in plants.

Tillage practices significantly influence crop yield and soil quality. This study investigated the impact of rotary tillage (RT) and deep tillage (DT) on soil properties, microbial diversity, and melon (Cucumis melo L.) root growth and yield. RT involved breaking up the topsoil to a depth of 15 cm using a rotary tiller, while DT employed a rotary tiller followed by a moldboard plow to turn the soil layer over to a depth of 35 cm. The melon variety “Nasimi” was used as the material. Our findings revealed a remarkable response of soil phosphorus to tillage practices. High-throughput sequencing results revealed a significant impact of tillage practices on the soil fungal composition, richness, and diversity but little impact on the bacterial communities. Compared to RT, DT markedly enhanced melon root length, root surface area, root volume, and mean root diameter by 47.42%, 56.70%, 58.83%, and 27.28%, respectively. Additionally, DT treatments significantly increased melon yield (53.46%) compared to RT. The results indicate that DT improves soil nutrient availability, affects soil fungal community characteristics, and optimizes root distribution in soil, thereby improving melon yield. The findings offer valuable theoretical insights for the implementation of effective tillage practices in open-field melon cultivation.

Oilseed rape (Brassica napus) is a crucial global oil crop. It is generally cultivated in rotation with rice in southern China’s Yangtze River Basin, where the wet soil and residue retention after rice harvest significantly hinder its seedling establishment. Hence, this study developed a strip-tillage seeder for oilseed rape seeding following rice harvest. Additionally, seedling establishment, soil infiltration and evaporation post-seeding, soil moisture change, oilseed yield, and weed occurrence under strip tillage (ST) were compared with conventional shallow rotary-tillage (SR) and deep rotary-tillage (DR) seeding practices. Compared to SR and DR, the results demonstrated that ST had a higher seeding efficiency and 53.8% and 80.2% lower energy consumption, respectively. ST also enhanced seedling growth and oilseed yield formation more effectively than the competitor tillage treatments, with an oilseed yield increase exceeding 6%. Additionally, ST improved water infiltration and reduced soil water evaporation, resulting in higher topsoil (0–20 cm) moisture during the critical growth stages. Furthermore, ST reduced soil disturbance, significantly decreasing the density of the dominant weed, Polypogon fugax. Overall, ST seeding technology has the potential to improve the productivity of oilseed rape in rice–oilseed rape rotation systems, and its yield superiority is mainly due to seedling establishment improvement and soil moisture adjustment.

Abstract Background Mechanical ventilation (MV) is essential in the management of critically ill neonates, especially preterm infants. However, inappropriate or prolonged use of invasive MV may result in ventilator-associated lung injury. A systemic review comparing pressure control ventilation (PCV) with volume-targeted ventilation mode (VTV) approved that VTV reduces the incidence of death or bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) in neonates; however, this study did not analyze subgroups of very low birthweight (VLBW) infants. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare the use of VTV and PCV in VLBW infants and to provide clinical evidence for reducing mortality and complications of MV in VLBW infants. Method A single-center randomized controlled trial will be performed. All eligible infants will be randomized and assigned to either VTV or PCV group with 1:1 ratio using sealed envelopes. Death or BPD at 36 weeks’ postmenstrual age will be used as the primary outcome. Secondary outcomes include BPD, death, length of invasive MV, noninvasive mechanical ventilation, and oxygen use, length of hospital stay, failure of conventional MV, rate of using high-frequency oscillatory ventilation (HFOV) as rescue therapy, rate of reintubation within 48 h, and hospital expenses. Discussion Systemic review suggested that VTV decreases the incidence of death or BPD in neonates compared to PLV; however, this study did not specifically analyze subgroups of VLBW infants. We designed this single-center randomized controlled trials (RCT) to add a significant contribution regarding the benefits of VTV for VLBW patients.

Abstract Background Most previous studies comparing etiological studies in infants with and without periventricular-intraventricular haemorrhage (PV-IVH) concluded that younger gestational age (GA) was associated with a higher prevalence rate of PV-IVH. However, only a few studies have examined the risk factors associated with the severity of PV-IVH after removing the influence of GA. Therefore, we investigated the risk factors apart from GA for PV-IVH severity in preterm infants less than 28 weeks. Methods This was a retrospective case-control study of preterm infants born in West China Second Hospital with PV-IVH between 2009 and 2020. PV-IVH was defined using cranial ultrasound screening. Preterm infants were divided into no PV-IVH and PV-IVH groups, and preterm infants with PV-IVH were divided into mild and severe PV-IVH groups. Groups were matched in a 1:1 ratio using propensity score calculated from GA. Variables were collected from infant–mother pairs. A stepwise forward multivariate logistic regression model was adopted to select factors that affected PV-IVH in preterm infants. Results A total of 429 preterm infants were included. The total incidence of PV-IVH in preterm infants was 55.6%, and the incidence of mild and severe PV-IVH was 28.7% and 26.9%, respectively. We matched 162 infants with no PV-IVH with 162 infants with PV-IVH. The results suggested that electrolyte disorder (OR 2.79, 95% CI: 1.34–5.77), early-onset sepsis (OR 1.76, 95% CI: 1.01–3.08), thrombocytopenia (OR 2.87, 95% CI: 1.10–7.48), invasive mechanical ventilation (OR 4.21, 95% CI: 1.86–9.55), and male sex (OR 2.16, 95% CI: 1.29–3.60) were independently associated with PV-IVH. Then, we matched 87 infants with mild PV-IVH with 87 infants with severe PV-IVH. The results suggested that electrolyte disorder (OR 2.88, 95% CI: 1.29–6.45), thrombocytopenia (OR 5.73, 95% CI: 1.91–17.14), and invasive mechanical ventilation (OR 10.54, 95% CI: 1.16–95.85) were independently associated with severity of PV-IVH. Conclusions Regardless of GA, electrolyte disorder, early-onset sepsis, thrombocytopenia, invasive mechanical ventilation, and male sex contributed to PV-IVH in preterm infants, and electrolyte disorder, thrombocytopenia, and invasive mechanical ventilation contributed to severe PV-IVH. These risk factors may combine to predict the incidence of PV-IVH in preterm infants.

Existing evaluation criteria for head impact injuries are typically based on time-domain features, and less attention has been paid to head frequency responses for head impact injury assessment. The purpose of the current study is, therefore, to understand the characteristics of human body head frequency response in blunt impacts via finite element (FE) modeling and the wavelet packet analysis method. FE simulation results show that head frequency response in blunt impacts could be affected by the impact boundary condition. The head energy peak and its frequency increase with the increase in impact; a stiffer impact block is associated with a higher head energy peak, and a bigger impact block could result in a high proportion of the energy peak. Regression analysis indicates that only the head energy peak has a high correlation with exiting head injury criteria, which implies that the amplitude–frequency aggregation characteristic but not the frequency itself of the head acceleration response has predictability for head impact injury in blunt impacts. The findings of the current study may provide additional criteria for head impact injury evaluation and new ideas for head impact injury protection.

Abstract Limited studies have been conducted on Chinese women's willingness to donate milk following perinatal loss. In this study, we explore the relationship among childbirth trauma, willingness to donate milk, and resilience in women following perinatal loss, and the mediating effect of resilience between childbirth trauma and willingness to donate milk. A cross‐sectional study was carried out throughout 4 months. We used convenience sampling methods and recruited 241 women following a perinatal loss from eight tertiary hospitals in Sichuan Province, China. Participants completed four questionnaires during a face‐to‐face individual interview: the general information questionnaire, the Willingness to Donate Milk Scale (WMDS), the City Birth Trauma Scale, and the Brief Resilience Scale. The paper used the subjective and objective assignment method to combine the relevant data of Qingdao City's marine economy from 2015 to 2020, and conducted a comprehensive research and empirical analysis on the level of Qingdao City's high-quality development of marine economy. The results showed that innovation-driven, green development and people's livelihood were important supporting forces for the high-quality development of Qingdao City's marine economy. Open development and comprehensive quality and efficiency played an important driving role for the high-quality development of Qingdao City's marine economy. Coordinated development was the main problem facing the high-quality development of Qingdao City's marine economy in recent years. Finally, countermeasures and suggestions to promote the high-quality development of Qingdao City's marine economy were further discussed and put forward.
