Purpose The objective of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of transvaginal contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) in differentiating benign from malignant endometrial lesions and assessing the extent of myometrial invasion. Methods A total of 70 patients who underwent surgery for endometrial lesions at the authors’ hospital were selected. Transvaginal ultrasound examination and CEUS were performed for quantitative and qualitative analysis. Based on the CEUS results, an International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) disease grade was assigned and compared with pathological findings. The use of weak passwords is a significant vulnerability in computer information system security, and this issue is also present in the digital applications of grain storage information systems. Simple hashing algorithms have obvious limitations when dealing with weak passwords. Based on the actual application of grain storage software systems, this paper proposed a method to enhance weak password protection by using a hashing algorithm as the foundation, combined with the introduction of salt values and high-order reflections for strengthening, along with multiple rehashing operations. Validation and analysis showed that this method increased the hashing strength of weak passwords, and effectively prevented dictionary attacks or rainbow table attacks, which could achieve the effective protection for the transmission and storage of weak passwords. Additionally, it had low complexity, and was easy to implement. It also had an average computational latency of approximately 2.5 ms, which was imperceptible to users. This method is suitable for the construction and management of digital grain storage information systems, providing robust security protection.

Abstract Advances in stem cell technology offer new possibilities for patients with untreated diseases and disorders. Stem cell-based therapy, which includes multipotent mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), has recently become important in regenerative therapies. MSCs are multipotent progenitor cells that possess the ability to undergo in vitro self-renewal and differentiate into various mesenchymal lineages. MSCs have demonstrated promise in several areas, such as tissue regeneration, immunological modulation, anti-inflammatory qualities, and wound healing. Additionally, the development of specific guidelines and quality control methods that ultimately result in the therapeutic application of MSCs has been made easier by recent advancements in the study of MSC biology. This review discusses the latest clinical uses of MSCs obtained from the umbilical cord (UC), bone marrow (BM), or adipose tissue (AT) in treating various human diseases such as pulmonary dysfunctions, neurological disorders, endocrine/metabolic diseases, skin burns, cardiovascular conditions, and reproductive disorders. Additionally, this review offers comprehensive information regarding the clinical application of targeted therapies utilizing MSCs. It also presents and examines the concept of MSC tissue origin and its potential impact on the function of MSCs in downstream applications. The ultimate aim of this research is to facilitate translational research into clinical applications in regenerative therapies.

Magnesium matrix composites have garnered significant attention in recent years owing to their exceptional lightweight properties and notable potential in various engineering applications. The interface generally acts as a “bridge” between the matrix and reinforcement, playing crucial roles in critical processes such as load transfer, failure behavior, and carrier transport. A deep understanding of the interfacial structures, properties, and effects holds paramount significance in the study of composites. This paper presents a comprehensive review of prior researches related to the interface of Mg matrix composites. Firstly, the different interfacial structures and interaction mechanisms encompassing mechanical, physical, and chemical bonding are introduced. Subsequently, the interfacial mechanical properties and their influence on the overall properties are discussed. Finally, the paper addresses diverse interface modification methods including matrix alloying and reinforcement surface treatment.

Abstract Female urethral caruncle is the most common urethral mass in postmenopausal women, yet there is a lack of studies on its imaging. The aim of this study was to provide a summary of the clinical and ultrasound features as well as the precise location of female urethral caruncle. This study reviewed the clinical and ultrasonographic records of 20 consecutive women with pathologically confirmed urethral caruncle. Data on patient demographics, symptoms, and transperineal and transrectal ultrasound imaging features, including location, shape, margin, size, blood flow, and inner echo of the caruncle, were extracted. Each patient presented with only one mass at the urethral meatus. Most caruncles were located on the posterior lip (75%) of the urethra, presenting as oval (80%), mixed-echoic (50%), or hypo-echoic (40%) nodules with abundant linear (40%) or dendritic (60%) blood flow. The average distance between the bladder neck and the cranial end of the masses was 28 mm. Hyper-echogenic spots, cystic echo areas, and macrocalcifications were detected in thirteen caruncles (70%). This study shows that transperineal combined with transrectal ultrasound can be used to assess female urethral caruncle, and its relative location to the urethra can be accurately described, which is helpful for surgeons making preoperative localization and conversations.

BackgroundLifestyle intervention or dietary modification has been the cornerstone of primary prevention and management of type 2 diabetes (T2D).ObjectiveTo investigate the associations of plant foods intake with the risk of incident T2D.MethodsBased on a general population cohort, the Shanghai Suburban Adult Cohort and Biobank (SSACB), dietary data were collected for each participant in Songjiang District of Shanghai at enrollment with a validated Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ), and plant-based diet index (PDI), healthful plant-based diet index (hPDI), and unhealthful plant-based diet index (uPDI) were calculated. Incident T2D cases were identified according to physician diagnosis (fasting blood glucose ≥7.0 mmol·L−1, or 2 h value during a 75-g oral glucose tolerance test ≥11.1 mmol·L−1, or glycosylated hemoglobin ≥6.5%, or with typical symptoms of hyperglycemia or hyperglycemic crisis, accompanied by a random plasma glucose ≥11.1 mmol·L−1) or medication records, obtained from the electronic information system for residents' medical insurance. Multivariable-adjusted Cox proportional hazards models and restricted cubic splines were used to evaluate the associations of foods from different sources with the risk of incident T2D.ResultsA total of 29016 participants [age at baseline (55.3±11.6) years] with a median follow-up duration of 5.688 years until 21 September 2022 were included. This study aims to fabricate heterogeneous CNTs/Al composites with a hierarchical structure using powder metallurgy techniques. The hierarchical composites are composed of alternating layers with and without CNTs. Tensile testing of the as-sintered sample, with a 3.5 mm width and containing 0.5 wt% CNTs, revealed an ultimate tensile strength of 249 MPa and 11.8 % elongation to failure. This shows an improvement in overall mechanical properties while maintaining the superior ductility of the alloy and the high strength of uniform composites. Indicating an effective overcoming of the traditional trade-off between strength and ductility. Several strengthening mechanisms have been discussed, including load transfer, grain refinement, and extra dislocations. Coordinated deformation and retarding effect during crack propagation can significantly enhance ductility. Furthermore, the incorporation of reinforcement increased the thermal conductivity by 18.6% due to the excellent thermal characteristics of CNTs. To investigate the intrinsic principles, a parallel and series model was developed to simulate the arrangement of CNTs in the Al matrix. Molecular dynamics (MD) simulations revealed the heat transfer mechanism through the electron-phonon coupling effect. This study proposes a new approach for creating metal materials that have both strength and ductility, while also improving their thermal conductivity.

Magnesium (Mg) alloys have shown great prospects as both structural and biomedical materials, while poor corrosion resistance limits their further application. In this work, to avoid the time-consuming and laborious experiment trial, a high-throughput computational strategy based on first-principles calculations is designed for screening corrosion-resistant binary Mg alloy with intermetallics, from both the thermodynamic and kinetic perspectives. The stable binary Mg intermetallics with low equilibrium potential difference with respect to the Mg matrix are firstly identified. Then, the hydrogen adsorption energies on the surfaces of these Mg intermetallics are calculated, and the corrosion exchange current density is further calculated by a hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) kinetic model. Several intermetallics, e.g. Y3Mg, Y2Mg and La5Mg, are identified to be promising intermetallics which might effectively hinder the cathodic HER. Furthermore, machine learning (ML) models are developed to predict Mg intermetallics with proper hydrogen adsorption energy employing work function (Wf) and weighted first ionization energy (WFIE). The generalization of the ML models is tested on five new binary Mg intermetallics with the average root mean square error (RMSE) of 0.11 eV. This study not only predicts some promising binary Mg intermetallics which may suppress the galvanic corrosion, but also provides a high-throughput screening strategy and ML models for the design of corrosion-resistant alloy, which can be extended to ternary Mg alloys or other alloy systems.

Abstract Purpose Whole grains have recently been promoted as beneficial to diabetes prevention. However, the evidence for the glycemic benefits of whole grains seems to conflict between the cohort studies and randomized control trials (RCTs). To fill the research gap, we conducted a meta-analysis to determine the effects of whole grains on diabetes prevention and to inform recommendations. Methods We searched PubMed, Clarivate Web of Science, and Cochrane Library until March 2024. We used the risk ratio (RR) of type 2 diabetes to represent the clinical outcomes for cohort studies, while the biomarkers, including fasting blood glucose and insulin, HbA1C, and HOMA-IR, were utilized to show outcomes for RCTs. Dose-response relationships between whole grain intakes and outcomes were tested with random effects meta-regression models and restricted cubic splines models. Abstract Background Impaired collateral formation is a major factor contributing to poor prognosis in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. However, the current pharmacological treatments for improving collateral formation remain unsatisfactory. The induction of endothelial autophagy and the elimination of reactive oxygen species (ROS) represent potential therapeutic targets for enhancing endothelial angiogenesis and facilitating collateral formation. This study investigates the potential of molybdenum disulfide nanodots (MoS2 NDs) for enhancing collateral formation and improving prognosis. Results Our study shows that MoS2 NDs significantly enhance collateral formation in ischemic tissues of diabetic mice, improving effective blood resupply. Additionally, MoS2 NDs boost the proliferation, migration, and tube formation of endothelial cells under high glucose/hypoxia conditions in vitro. Mechanistically, the beneficial effects of MoS2 NDs on collateral formation not only depend on their known scavenging properties of ROS (H2O2, •O2 -, and •OH) but also primarily involve a molecular pathway, cAMP/PKA-NR4A2, which promotes autophagy and contributes to mitigating damage in diabetic endothelial cells. Conclusions Overall, this study investigated the specific mechanism by which MoS2 NDs mediated autophagy activation and highlighted the synergy between autophagy activation and antioxidation, thus suggesting that an economic and biocompatible nano-agent with dual therapeutic functions is highly preferable for promoting collateral formation in a diabetic context, thus, highlighting their therapeutic potential. ObjectiveTo evaluate the feasibility and capability of UT in detecting musculoskeletal system lesions in the limbs and to explore its image quality.Materials and Methods The Institutional Review Board has approved this prospective single-center study. This study included participants with various musculoskeletal and neurologic disorders in the limbs who provided written consent from October 2022 to April 2023. In addition to other radiological examinations (X-rays, CT, or MRI) and conventional handheld ultrasound scans requested by clinicians based on the conditions, each participant also underwent UT scanning using our developed limb ultrasound imaging system during the same period. Four radiologists and ultrasound physicians with more than five years of experience in musculoskeletal diagnostics analyzed the two-dimensional and three-dimensional images of the examination area.Results Overall, 50 participants were evaluated (mean age, 36 years ± 18 [SD]; 26 males). The conditions included musculoskeletal tumors (n = 10), postoperative follow-up of musculoskeletal tumors (n = 20), peripheral nerve disorders in the limbs (n = 10) and postoperative pain in orthopedic surgery (n = 10). In all UT images, the region of interest was completely displayed, and internal structures such as muscles and nerves were clearly visible. Compared to conventional ultrasound images, the reconstructed three-dimensional images intuitively displayed the relationship between the lesions and surrounding tissues. Furthermore, UT did not exhibit metal artifacts when observing soft tissues around metallic implants, providing more comprehensive soft tissue information and more intuitive stereoscopic images.ConclusionClinical results of the UT system have demonstrated its feasibility as an automated and standardized imaging technique for musculoskeletal imaging, providing a new imaging modality for the diagnosis of musculoskeletal diseases in the human body.

Abstract The corrosion susceptibility of magnesium (Mg) alloys presents a significant challenge for their broad application. Although there have been extensive experimental and theoretical investigations, the corrosion mechanisms of Mg alloys are still unclear, especially the anodic dissolution process. Here, a thorough theoretical investigation based on ab initio molecular dynamics and metadynamics simulations has been conducted to clarify the underlying corrosion mechanism of Mg anode and propose effective strategies for enhancing corrosion resistance. Through comprehensive analyses of interfacial structures and equilibrium potentials for Mg(0001)/H2O interface models with different water thicknesses, the Mg(0001)/72 H2O model is identified to be reasonable with −2.17 V vs. standard hydrogen electrode equilibrium potential. In addition, utilizing metadynamics, the free energy barrier for Mg dissolution is calculated to be 0.835 eV, enabling the theoretical determination of anodic polarization curves for pure Mg that aligns well with experimental data. Based on the Mg(0001)/72 H2O model, we further explore the effects of various alloying elements on anodic corrosion resistance, among which Al and Mn alloying elements are found to enhance corrosion resistance of Mg. This study provides valuable atomic‐scale insights into the corrosion mechanism of magnesium alloys, offering theoretical guidance for developing novel corrosion‐resistant Mg alloys.

Abstract To serve in a more aggressive chlorine (Cl−) ions-containing environment, a chlorine ions insensitivity Mg-Nd-Zr alloys is fabricated, exhibiting a stable corrosion resistance in either 3.5wt.% or 10 wt.% NaCl solution. Unlike pure Mg who exhibit a negligible protection of the matrix, a distinct “hindering effect” of Cl− diffusion caused by doping elements within the corrosion film was observed. Its underlying mechanism is demonstrated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Density functional theory (DFT) analysis. The introducing with Nd and Zr elements can effectively passivate vacancies and alter diffusion energy of chlorine ions.

Ovarian cancer presents a substantial challenge due to its high mortality and recurrence rates among gynecological tumors. Existing clinical chemotherapy treatments are notably limited by drug resistance and systemic toxic side effects caused by off target drugs. Sonodynamic therapy (SDT) has emerged as a promising approach in cancer treatment, motivating researchers to explore synergistic combinations with other therapies for enhanced efficacy. In this study, we developed magnetic sonodynamic nanorobot (Fe3O4@SiO2-Ce6, FSC) by applying a SiO2 coating onto Fe3O4 nanoparticle, followed by coupling with the sonosensitizer Ce6. The magnetic FSC nanorobot collectives could gather at fixed point and actively move to target site regulated by magnetic field. In vitro experiments revealed that the magnetic FSC nanorobot collectives enabled directional navigation to the tumor cell area under guidance. Furthermore, under low-intensity ultrasonic stimulation, FSC nanorobot collectives mediated sonodynamic therapy exhibited remarkable anti-tumor performance. These findings suggest that magnetically actuated sonodynamic nanorobot collectives hold promising potential for application in target cancer therapy.

Summary: Previous studies have postulated that the urethral vasculature (UV) might play an important role in urinary continence for women. The goal of this research was to compare the UV in pre- and post-menopausal women using a super-resolution ultrasound imaging method called Super Ultrasound for Greater Accuracy and Resolution (SUGAR). We found that post-menopausal women exhibited decreased UV parameters such as fractal dimension, vessel proportion, and mean blood vessel diameter than pre-menopausal women. We also discriminated the vascular pattern in several layers of the urethra and its surrounding in vivo, including the urethral mucosa and submucosa, urethral muscle, and anterior vaginal wall. Besides, the statistical analysis of the vasculature pattern showed that most of the UV parameters peaked at mid-urethra. Ultimately, the UV parameters exhibited a tendency of first increasing, then reducing, and finally decreasing with age.

This work aims to clarify the influence of texture on the corrosion behavior of an as-extruded Mg–8Al-0.5In alloy sheet. The weight loss, hydrogen evolution and electrochemical results show that the sample with strong basal texture has the best corrosion resistance. The morphology examinations show the corrosion product film is thinner and more uniform with less cracks for the sample with (0001) plane. The inhomogeneity of corrosion product in samples with (10-10) and (-12-10) planes is the main cause of poor corrosion performance. The findings of this study confirm the corrosion resistance of Mg alloy could be regulated by controlling texture.

Background Drug therapy is one of the main treatment approaches for depression, and a consideration of patient preferences can effectively improve patient compliance with medication. Several studies have been conducted to explore the medication choice preferences of patients with depression, but there is a lack of studies to systematically collect and summarize the medication choice preferences of patients with depression. Objective To systematically review the studies related to the application of discrete choice experiment (DCE) and best-worst scaling (BWS) to the medication choice preferences of patients with depression, in order to provide reference for clinical rational drug use of patients with depression and future studies of preferences. Methods CNKI, Wanfang Data Knowledge Service Platform, VIP, PubMed, Web of Science and EmBase were systematically searched for the studies related to the application of DCE and BWS to the medication choice preferences of patients with depression from inception to 2021-12-31, using "DCE" "BWS" "depression" "discrete choice experiment" "best-worst scaling" as keywords on January 2022. Data were extracted from the included literature, and the PREFS checklist was used for the quality assessment of all studies. The attributes included in the study were classified into three categories of outcome, process and cost, and their relative importance on the impact of medication preferences of patients was assessed. Results A total of 7 papers were included, all of which were studies related to DCE, involving 47 attributes, among which 41 were classified as outcome attributes, 5 were classified as process attributes, and 1 was classified as a cost attribute. A total of 9 most important attribute results were obtained from the 7 studies, the outcome attribute was considered most important 8 times and the cost attribute was considered most important 1 time. Among the outcome attributes, adverse effects were considered most important 5 times and effectiveness was considered most important 3 times. Based on the PREFS checklist, one study received a score of four and six studies received a score of three. Most studies need further improvement in terms of respondents and findings. Conclusion Outcome attributes are most important in the medicine taking process of patients with depression, which needs attention of clinicians and policy makers. There is room for improvement in the dimensions of variance reporting and experimental design, it is recommended for further improvement of research design in terms of respondents interpretation of findings and experimental design in future research, in order to provide more high-quality evidence for research of medication preferences of patients with depression.

Mathematical models were proposed to clarify the effect of alloying on corrosion of magnesium alloys based on film-free and film-covered status. The models are applicable to explain the “barrier effect” by cathodes and the “analogous Hall-Petch relationship” between corrosion rates and grain size. The slope of corrosion rates versus alloying content is determined by the dissolution ability of film-free substrate and the hindering effects by corrosion product film. Designing strategy for corrosion-resistant Mg alloys is established.

Micro-alloying Mg alloys with rare earth elements is an economical and promising way to improve their corrosion resistance. It is of great importance to understand their corrosion behavior for designing corrosion-resistant Mg alloys. In this work, Mg-11Al-0.2Y alloy was prepared for exploring its corrosion behavior in 3.5 wt.% neutral NaCl solution. It exhibits a low corrosion current density of 2.3 µA/cm2 after immersion for 1 d due to the formation of a protective surface film containing Al2O3, MgO and Mg(OH)2. However, nano-scaled pores exhibit at the film/matrix interface, which undermines integrity and protectiveness of the surface film after long-term exposure to chloride solution.

Introduction Radiographic bone age (BA) assessment is widely used to evaluate children’s growth disorders and predict their future height. Moreover, children are more sensitive and vulnerable to X-ray radiation exposure than adults. The purpose of this study is to develop a new, safer, radiation-free BA assessment method for children by using three-dimensional ultrasound (3D-US) and artificial intelligence (AI), and to test the diagnostic accuracy and reliability of this method.Methods and analysis This is a prospective, observational study. All participants will be recruited through Paediatric Growth and Development Clinic. All participants will receive left hand 3D-US and X-ray examination at the Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital on the same day, all images will be recorded. These image related data will be collected and randomly divided into training set (80% of all) and test set (20% of all). The training set will be used to establish a cascade network of 3D-US skeletal image segmentation and BA prediction model to achieve end-to-end prediction of image to BA. The test set will be used to evaluate the accuracy of AI BA model of 3D-US. We have developed a new ultrasonic scanning device, which can be proposed to automatic 3D-US scanning of hands. AI algorithms, such as convolutional neural network, will be used to identify and segment the skeletal structures in the hand 3D-US images. We will achieve automatic segmentation of hand skeletal 3D-US images, establish BA prediction model of 3D-US, and test the accuracy of the prediction model.Ethics and dissemination The Ethics Committee of Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital approved this study. The approval number is 2022-019. A written informed consent will be obtained from their parent or guardian of each participant.
