Abstract This paper investigated the global attractive set for quaternion-valued neural networks (QVNNs) with leakage delay, time-varying delay, and neutral items. Based on various basic conditions of activation function, the global attractive set and global exponential attractive set of QVNNs are given combined with novel analytical techniques and Lyapunov theory. The QVNNs are studied by a direct method, without any decomposition. The time delay can be non-differential, which makes the results more pragmatic. Restrictions on the activation function of the neutral item are relaxed. The neutral activation function can be bounded or unbounded, which makes the results more practical. Two simulation examples are given to verify the validity of the theory results.

Assisted reproductive technology(ART) faces challenges such as low embryo implantation rates due to uterine factors, and infertility caused by ovarian function suppression and abnormal semen. Platelet-rich plasma(PRP), which is rich in various bioactive substances, can play an anti-inflammatory role and promote cell proliferation, vascular regeneration and injury healing, and is now a hot topic in ART. This paper describes the relevant research on PRP in ART for clinical reference, aiming to standardize the application of PRP in ART and provide a new treatment for infertile couples.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), commonly known as primary liver cancer, is a major cause of malignant tumors and cancer-related deaths in China, accounting for approximately 85% of all cancer cases in the country. Several guidelines have been used to diagnose and treat liver cancer. However, these guidelines provide a broad definition for classifying advanced liver cancer, with an emphasis on a singular approach, without considering treatment options for individual patients. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a comprehensive and practical expert consensus, specifically for China, to enhance the diagnosis and treatment of HCC using the Delphi method. The classification criteria were refined for Chinese patients with HCC, and the corresponding optimal treatment regimen recommendations were developed. These recommendations took into account various factors, including tumor characteristics, vascular tumor thrombus grade, distant metastasis, liver function status, portal hypertension, and the hepatitis B virus replication status of patients with primary HCC, along with treatment prognosis. The findings and recommendations provide detailed, scientific, and reasonable individualized diagnosis and treatment strategies for clinicians.

Objective To analyze the clinical manifestations of delayed serological transfusion reactions (DSTR) after platelet transfusion in tumor patients, and to explore the transfusion strategy. Methods Clinical data and laboratory test results of patients with positive antibody screening were analyzed after platelet transfusion in our hospital from January 1, 2015 to June 30, 2023, and the incidence rate, clinical characteristics and transfusion strategy of patients with DSTR were analyzed. Results A total of 2 553 patients with 6 057 platelet transfusions were reviewed. Eight patients developed DSTR and received a total of 21 therapeutic amounts of platelets, and 5 patients were subsequently transfused with red blood cells. Rh system antibodies were detected in 7 cases (4 anti-E, 1 anti-c/E, 1 anti-C and 1 anti-c) and Kell system antibodies in 1 case. Conclusion Tumor patients may also develop DSTR after platelet transfusion. It is necessary to pay close attention to the antibody situation and perform matched transfusion when transfusing blood again.

In this study, the Mo0.5NbTiZrTax (x = 0.3, 0.5, 0.7) HEAs obtained by arc melting were controlled by the change of Ta content. The microstructure, the wear properties, and the corrosion resistance of the alloys were studied systematically. The results revealed that the alloys have the BCC (major) phase + BCC (minor) phase structure. At the same time, the increase in Ta content promotes the refinement of grains and the formation of sub-grains with gradually random orientation at grain boundaries but suppresses the randomization of crystal orientation. This also enriched the defect structure inside the alloys, further induced the formation of Zr-rich second phase particles, high-density stacking fault structures, and disordered Zr-rich BCC phases. The increase in Ta content significantly improved the wear properties of the alloys, which is mainly ascribed to the presence of the tough BCC phase and the combined effects of solid solution strengthening, second phase strengthening, fine grain strengthening, lattice distortion effect, and stacking fault strengthening. The electrochemical measurements confirm that the overall corrosion resistance of the alloys shows a trend of first increasing and then decreasing with the increase of Ta content due to the formation of micro batteries between the second phase rich in Zr as the anode and dendrites.

Objective To investigate additional exclusion criteria for therapeutic apheresis erythrocytes and the possibility of adverse reactions by analyzing the occurrence of rare adverse reactions in two patients who underwent therapeutic erythrocytes apheresis. Methods Erythrocytes were harvested by apheresis from two patients with indications for therapeutic erythrocytes collection for preservation or discarding. Results One case experienced persistent atrial fibrillation and a gout attack after the collection, while another case experienced persistent hypotension during the collection and a subsequent reduction in haemoglobin levels after collection Conclusion To reduce the incidence of adverse reactions, it is essential to have strict exclusion criteria for therapeutic erythrocytes apheresis and to enhance the monitoring of whole collection process in patients with atrial fibrillation and gout.

Summary: Long-lived individuals have been extensively studied as a model to investigate the role of the gut microbiota in aging, but their gut fungi remain almost unexplored. Here, we recruited a community-dwelling cohort of 251 participants (24–108 years, including 47 centenarians) from Guangxi in China to characterize the gut mycobiome signatures. We found gut mycobiome markedly varied during aging and determined aging as a predominant factor driving these variations. For long-lived individuals, core taxa, including Penicillium and Aspergillus, were maintained and Candida enterotype was enriched when compared with old counterparts. Individuals with this enterotype were more likely to possess Bacteroides enterotype enriched in young and centenarians. Moreover, the drivers from Candida enterotype were positively linked with the bacteria components dominated in Bacteroides enterotype. We also identified potentially beneficial yeasts-enriched features to differentiate long-lived individuals from others. Our findings suggest that the gut mycobiome develops with aging, and long-lived individuals possess unique fungal signatures.

Objective: Baicalin has antioxidative, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory properties. However, its ability to alleviate oxidative stress (OS) and DNA damage in liver cells exposed to aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), a highly hepatotoxic compound, remains uncertain. In this study, the protective effects of baicalin on AFB1-induced hepatocyte injury and the mechanisms underlying those effects were investigated. Methods: Stable cell lines expressing CYP3A4 were established using lentiviral vectors to assess oxidative stress levels by conducting assays to determine the content of reactive oxygen species (ROS), malondialdehyde (MDA), and superoxide dismutase (SOD). Additionally, DNA damage was evaluated by 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and comet assays. Transcriptome sequencing, molecular docking, and in vitro experiments were conducted to determine the mechanisms underlying the effects of baicalin on AFB1-induced hepatocyte injury. In vivo, a rat model of hepatocyte injury induced by AFB1 was used to evaluate the effects of baicalin. Results: In vitro, baicalin significantly attenuated AFB1-induced injury caused due to OS, as determined by a decrease in ROS, MDA, and SOD levels. Baicalin also considerably decreased AFB1-induced DNA damage in hepatocytes. This protective effect of baicalin was found to be closely associated with the TP53-mediated ferroptosis pathway. To elaborate, baicalin physically interacts with P53, leading to the suppression of the expression of GPX4 and SLC7A11, which in turn inhibits ferroptosis. In vivo findings showed that baicalin decreased DNA damage and ferroptosis in AFB1-treated rat liver tissues, as determined by a decrease in the expression of γ-H2AX and an increase in GPX4 and SLC7A11 levels. Overexpression of TP53 weakened the protective effects of baicalin. Conclusions: Baicalin can alleviate AFB1-induced OS and DNA damage in liver cells via the TP53-mediated ferroptosis pathway. In this study, a theoretical foundation was established for the use of baicalin in protecting the liver from the toxic effects of AFB1.

BackgroundSputum immunoglobulin G (Sp-IgG) has been discovered to induce cytolytic extracellular trap cell death in eosinophils, suggesting a potential autoimmune mechanism contributing to asthma. This study aimed to explore the potential origin of Sp-IgG and identify clinically relevant subtypes of Sp-IgG that may indicate autoimmune events in asthma.MethodsThis study included 165 asthmatic patients and 38 healthy volunteers. We measured Sp-IgG and its five subtypes against eosinophil inflammatory proteins (Sp-IgGEPs), including eosinophil peroxidase, eosinophil major basic protein, eosinophil-derived neurotoxin, eosinophil cationic protein, and Charcot-Leyden Crystal protein in varying asthma severity. Clinical and Mendelian randomization (MR) analyses were conducted. A positive Sp-IgGEPs signature (Sp-IgGEPs+) was defined when any of the five Sp-IgGEPs values exceeded the predefined cutoff thresholds, calculated as the mean values of healthy controls plus twice the standard deviation.ResultsThe levels of Sp-IgG and Sp-IgGEPs were significantly elevated in moderate/severe asthma than those in mild asthma/healthy groups (all p < 0.05). Sp-IgG levels were positively correlated with airway eosinophil and Sp-IgGEPs. MR analysis showed causality between eosinophil and IgG (OR = 1.02, 95%CI = 1.00-1.04, p = 0.020), and elevated IgG was a risk factor for asthma (OR = 2.05, 95%CI = 1.00-4.17, p = 0.049). Subjects with Sp-IgGEPs+ exhibited worse disease severity and served as an independent risk factor contributing to severe asthma (adjusted-OR = 5.818, adjusted-95% CI = 2.193-15.431, adjusted-p < 0.001). Receiver operating characteristic curve analysis demonstrated that the combination of Sp-IgGEPs+ with non-allergic status, an ACT score < 15, and age ≥ 45 years, effectively predicted severe asthma (AUC = 0.84, sensitivity = 86.20%, specificity = 67.80%).ConclusionThis study identifies a significant association between airway eosinophilic inflammation, Sp-IgG, and asthma severity. The Sp-IgGEPs panel potentially serves as the specific biomarker reflecting airway autoimmune events in asthma.

BackgroundPancreatic cancer (PC) is a prevalent malignancy within the digestive system, with diabetes recognized as one of its well-established risk factors.MethodsData on PC mortality attributed to high fasting blood sugar were retrieved from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study 2019 online database. To assess the temporal trends of PC burden attributable to high fasting plasma glucose (HFPG), estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) for age-standardized death rates (ASDRs) between 1990 and 2019 were determined using a generalized linear model. Furthermore, a Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) model using the integrated nested Laplacian approximation algorithm was employed to project the disease burden over the next 20 years.ResultsGlobally, the crude death number of PC attributable to HFPG almost tripled (from 13,065.7 in 1990 to 48,358.5 in 2019) from 1990 to 2019, and the ASDR increased from 0.36/100,000 to 0.61/100,000 with an EAPC of 2.04 (95% CI 1.91–2.16). The population aged ≥70 years accounted for nearly 60% of total deaths in 2019 and experienced a more significant increase, with the death number increasing approximately fourfold and the ASDR increasing annually by 2.65%. In regions with different sociodemographic indexes (SDIs), the highest disease burden was observed in the high-SDI region, whereas more pronounced increasing trends in ASDR were observed in the low to middle-SDI, low-SDI, and middle-SDI regions. Additionally, a significantly negative association was found between EAPCs and ASDRs of PC attributable to HFPG from 1990 to 2019. Moreover, the BAPC model predicts that ASDR and age-standardized disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) rate for PC attributed to HFPG was projected to increase obviously for men and women from 2019 to 2040.ConclusionsThe burden of PC attributed to HFPG has increased globally over the past three decades, with the elderly population and high-SDI regions carrying a relatively greater disease burden, but more adverse trends observed in low-SDI areas. Furthermore, the burden is projected to continue increasing over the next 20 years. Hence, more tailored prevention methodologies should be established to mitigate this increasing trend.

Background The dynamic interplay between tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs) and the tumor immune microenvironment (TME) plays a crucial role in the therapeutic trajectory of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Understanding the functional dynamics and resistance mechanisms of TKIs is essential for advancing the treatment of NSCLC.Methods This study assessed the effects of short-term and long-term TKI treatments on the TME in NSCLC, particularly targeting epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) and anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) mutations. We analyzed changes in immune cell composition, cytokine profiles, and key proteins involved in immune evasion, such as laminin subunit γ−2 (LAMC2). We also explored the use of aspirin as an adjunct therapy to modulate the TME and counteract TKI resistance.Results Short-term TKI treatment enhanced T cell-mediated tumor clearance, reduced immunosuppressive M2 macrophage infiltration, and downregulated LAMC2 expression. Conversely, long-term TKI treatment fostered an immunosuppressive TME, contributing to drug resistance and promoting immune escape. Differential responses were observed among various oncogenic mutations, with ALK-targeted therapies eliciting a stronger antitumor immune response compared with EGFR-targeted therapies. Notably, we found that aspirin has potential in overcoming TKI resistance by modulating the TME and enhancing T cell-mediated tumor clearance.Conclusions These findings offer new insights into the dynamics of TKI-induced changes in the TME, improving our understanding of NSCLC challenges. The study underscores the critical role of the TME in TKI resistance and suggests that adjunct therapies, like aspirin, may provide new strategies to enhance TKI efficacy and overcome resistance.

BackgroundDementia is a progressive neurodegenerative condition, while metabolic syndrome (MetS) is characterized by a combination of metabolic abnormalities such as hypertension, high blood sugar, and obesity. There exists a connection and overlap between the two conditions in certain aspects, and both are influenced to varying degrees by the process of aging. This study presents an overview of the current research landscape regarding dementia and MetS through bibliometric analysis.MethodsA systematic search was conducted to retrieve relevant literature on dementia and MetS published between 1 January 2000, and 30 November 2023, from the Web of Science Core Collection database. Various bibliometric tools, including VOSviewer, CiteSpace, and the R software package “bibliometrix,” were utilized for analysis.ResultsA total of 717 articles were identified, showing an upward trend in annual publications. Leading contributors included the United States, Italy, and China, with institutions such as the University of California System at the forefront. The Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease emerged as the top publisher, while research published in Neurology garnered significant citations. Noteworthy authors encompassed Panza, Francesco; Frisardi, Vincenza; and Feldman, Eva L, with Kristine Yaffe being the most cited author (280 citations). Recent studies have focused on themes like “gut microbiota,” “neuroinflammation,” “fatty acids,” and “microglia.”ConclusionThis bibliometric analysis summarizes the foundational knowledge structure in the realm of dementia and MetS from 2000 to 2023. By highlighting current research frontiers and trending topics, this analysis serves as a valuable reference for researchers in the field.

Study region: Guizhou Province, Southwest China Study focus: This study aims to estimate the hydraulic conductivity (Kh) of the weathered rock fractures (epikarst) based on the best fitting of observed water head in 105 slug tests in the study sites. Specifically, comparisons of the estimated results from the analytical and numerical methods reveal the effects of changes in fracture flow conditions (e.g., steady and non-steady) on Kh for various fracture apertures and soil fillings. New hydrological insights for the region: The results comparatively show that Kh from the analytical solution of steady flow was significantly underestimated, and the numerical modeling of the non-linear and unsteady flow can improve the water head fitting when the Reynolds number (Re) > 17.27. The optimized Kh ranges 0.014–2673 m/d and the mean value of Kh is about 100 times the median value, suggesting that epikarst flow might be controlled by a limited number of larger fractures. Moreover, the soil filling in large fractures (>10 mm) creates a turning point of the exponential increase of Kh with d. Comparatively, the naturally full-filling fractures resemble the soil matrix with a low Kh, and the partial-filling fractures can create preferential flow around the soil-rock interfaces with a high Kh. These results fundamentally improve our understanding of water infiltration, retention, and availability for plant uses in the karst areas of southwest China.

Abstract The human digital twin (HDT) emerges as a promising human-centric technology in Industry 5.0, but challenges remain in human modeling and simulation. Digital human modeling (DHM) provides solutions for modeling and simulating human physical and cognitive aspects to support ergonomic analysis. However, it has limitations in real-time data usage, personalized services, and timely interaction. The emerging HDT concept offers new possibilities by integrating multi-source data and artificial intelligence for continuous monitoring and assessment. Hence, this paper reviews the evolution from DHM to HDT and proposes a unified HDT framework from a human factors perspective. The framework comprises the physical twin, the virtual twin, and the linkage between these two. The virtual twin integrates human modeling and AI engines to enable model-data-hybrid-enabled simulation. HDT can potentially upgrade traditional ergonomic methods to intelligent services through real-time analysis, timely feedback, and bidirectional interactions. Finally, the future perspectives of HDT for industrial applications as well as technical and social challenges are discussed. In general, this study outlines a human factors perspective on HDT for the first time, which is useful for cross-disciplinary research and human factors innovation to enhance the development of HDT in industry.

Abstract Dual-phenotype hepatocellular carcinoma (DPHCC) is a new subtype of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the computerized tomography scan (CT) imaging and clinicopathologic features of DPHCC. The CT imaging and clinicopathologic data of 97 HCC cases who underwent radical resection were collected retrospectively. The CT imaging feature was evaluated by the ratio of the average CT value of tumor to liver (TLR) in the plain scan, arterial, portal vein and delayed phases. The association between CT imaging and clinicopathologic features was analyzed using the t-test or chi-square test. Univariate and multivariate recurrence-free survival (RFS) analysis and overall survival (OS) were performed. The positive rates of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) and CK19 were 35.1% and 20.6% respectively. The positive rate of CK19 was significantly higher in cases with age 4 cm (P = 0.016) or AFP ≥ 400 ng/ml (P = 0.007). The TLR in the portal vein phase was significantly lower in CK19 positive group (P = 0.024). The recurrence risk was significantly higher in cases with CK19 positive (HR: 2.17, 95% CI 1.16 to 4.04, P = 0.013), tumor diameter > 4 cm (HR: 2.05, 95% CI 1.11 to 3.78, P = 0.019), AFP ≥ 400 ng/ml (HR: 2.50, 95% CI 1.37 to 4.54, P = 0.002) or CA199 ≥ 37 U/ml (HR: 2.23, 95% CI 1.12 to 4.42, P = 0.020). However, imaging features, pathological subtype, CK7 or CK19 expression were not significantly related to HCC OS in the univariate and multivariate analysis (all P > 0.05). The expression of CK19 may be associated with the enhancement feature of the portal vein phase CT image, and CK19 positive may suggest a worse RFS.

Background: Intelligent garments, a burgeoning class of wearable devices, have extensive applications in domains such as sports training and medical rehabilitation. Nonetheless, existing research in the smart wearables domain predominantly emphasizes sensor functionality and quantity, often skipping crucial aspects related to user experience and interaction. Methods: To address this gap, this study introduces a novel real-time 3D interactive system based on intelligent garments. The system utilizes lightweight sensor modules to collect human motion data and introduces a dual-stream fusion network based on pulsed neural units to classify and recognize human movements, thereby achieving real-time interaction between users and sensors. Additionally, the system in- corporates 3D human visualization functionality, which visualizes sensor data and recognizes human actions as 3D models in realtime, providing accurate and comprehensive visual feedback to help users better understand and analyze the details and features of human motion. This system has significant potential for applications in motion detection, medical monitoring, virtual reality, and other fields. The accurate classification of human actions con- tributes to the development of personalized training plans and injury prevention strategies. Conclusions: This study has substantial implications in the domains of intelligent garments, human motion monitoring, and digital twin visualization. The advancement of this system is expected to propel the progress of wearable technology and foster a deeper comprehension of human motion.

Wide field of view (WFV) push-broom optical satellites can acquire ground images over hundreds to thousands of kilometers in a single pass, thanks to their large field of view (FOV) cameras consisting of tens or even hundreds of thousands of detectors, which also makes their relative radiometric correction (RRC) difficult. Existing side-slither-based RRC approaches overlook the distinct structural design of WFV push-broom optical satellite cameras, thus failing to rectify nonlinear distortions in side-slither images stemming from the nonflat arrangement of camera detectors. Furthermore, these methods necessitate the corresponding pixels (pixels of the same ground object) covering the entire FOV in side-slither images. However, the brief duration of side-slither imaging makes it unfeasible to cover the entire FOV with calibration data. To address these issues, we propose a novel RRC approach for WFV push-broom optical satellites, achieved based on a thorough analysis of the unique structural traits of WFV push-broom optical cameras, enabling precise standardization of the nonlinear distortions in side-slither data. Additionally, a local-to-global side-slither calibration strategy is proposed to obviate the requirement for corresponding pixels to cover the entire FOV in calibration data. Experiments using the Haiyang-1D Coastal Zone Imager satellite indicate that our method effectively rectified nonlinear distortions in side-slither data, and evident RRC accuracy improvement with that of the existing methods can be obtained.

A particle size inversion method based on whale optimization algorithm (WOA) is presented. In the experiment, the small angle forward scattering measurement system is used to conduct experimental research on the inversion of bubble particle size. WOA is used to invert and simulate the bubbles that follow a certain distribution, adding different levels of random noise to verify the stability of the algorithm. The results verify the feasibility and stability of applying WOA to particle size inversion.

An innovative complex lidar system deployed on an airborne rotorcraft platform for remote sensing of atmospheric pollution is proposed and demonstrated. The system incorporates integrated-path differential absorption lidar (DIAL) and coherent-doppler lidar (CDL) techniques using a dual tunable TEA CO2 laser in the 9–11 μm band and a 1.55 μm fiber laser. By combining the principles of differential absorption detection and pulsed coherent detection, the system enables agile and remote sensing of atmospheric pollution. Extensive static tests validate the system’s real-time detection capabilities, including the measurement of concentration-path-length product (CL), front distance, and path wind speed of air pollution plumes over long distances exceeding 4 km. Flight experiments is conducted with the helicopter. Scanning of the pollutant concentration and the wind field is carried out in an approximately 1 km slant range over scanning angle ranges from 45° to 65°, with a radial resolution of 30 m and 10 s. The test results demonstrate the system’s ability to spatially map atmospheric pollution plumes and predict their motion and dispersion patterns, thereby ensuring the protection of public safety.

Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-based combination therapy modalities for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) have achieved significant efficacy in clinical research and practice and have become the mainstay for the treatment of unresectable HCC. Summary: To better help clinicians use combination immunotherapy drugs and regimens rationally, effectively, and safely, the editorial board facilitated a discussion with multidisciplinary experts in the field, adopted the “Delphi” consensus formation method, and finally revised and completed the “Chinese Multidisciplinary Expert Consensus on the Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors (ICIs)-Based Combination Therapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma (2023 Edition)” on the basis of the 2021 edition. Key Messages: This consensus primarily focuses on the principles and methods of clinical practice of combination therapy based on ICIs, aiming to summarize the recommendations for clinical application based on the latest research and expert experience and provide application guidance for clinicians.

Abstract Background Emerging proofs have shown that differentially expressed circular RNAs (circRNAs) are closely associated with the pathophysiological process of spinal cord injury (SCI). Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC)-exosomes have been demonstrated to possess favorable therapeutic effects in diseases. Herein, this work aimed to investigate the action of circ_0006640 transferred by MSC-exosomes functional recovery after SCI. Methods SCI animal models were established by spinal cord contusion surgery in mice and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated mouse microglial cell line BV2. Levels of genes and proteins were detected by qRT-PCR and Western blot. Properties of BV2 cells were characterized using CCK-8 assay, flow cytometry and ELISA analysis. The oxidative stress was evaluated. Dual-luciferase reporter assay was used for verifying the binding between miR-382-5p and circ_0006640 or IGF-1 (Insulin-like Growth Factor 1). Exosome separation was conducted by using the commercial kit. Results Circ_0006640 expression was lower in SCI mice and LPS-induced microglial cells. Circ_0006640 overexpression protected microglial cells from LPS-induced apoptotic, inflammatory and oxidative injury. Mechanistically, circ_0006640 directly sponged miR-382-5p, which targeted IGF-1. MiR-382-5p was increased, while IGF-1 was decreased in SCI mice and LPS-induced microglial cells. Knockdown of miR-382-5p suppressed apoptosis, inflammation and oxidative stress in LPS-induced microglial cells, which were reversed by IGF-1 deficiency. Moreover, miR-382-5p up-regulation abolished the protective functions of circ_0006640 in LPS-induced microglial cells. Additionally, circ_0006640 was packaged into MSC-exosomes and could be transferred by exosomes. Exosomal circ_0006640 also had protective effects on microglial cells via miR-382-5p/IGF-1 axis. Conclusion Circ_0006640 transferred by BMSC-exosomes suppressed LPS-induced apoptotic, inflammatory and oxidative injury via miR-382-5p/IGF-1 axis, indicating a new insight into the clinical application of exosomal circRNA-based therapeutic in the function recovery after SCI.

In order to understand the technical level of high-throughput non-targeted detection of pesticide residues in China's inspection and testing institutions and improve the ability of food safety risk monitoring. Blank and added samples were prepared with organic apples as raw materials. F test and SS≤0.3σ criterion were used to evaluate the uniformity of the samples. T test and |\begin{document}$\overline{\rm{x}}-\overline{\rm{y}} $\end{document}|≤0.3σ criterion were used to evaluate the stability of the samples. In view of the fact that the existing evaluation technology did not consider the problem of high-throughput non-targeted detection, a new evaluation method was proposed. By establishing a two-dimensional (XY) classification, the number of pesticide detection (dimension X: qualitative) and the number of acceptable z-scores (dimension Y: quantitative) were evaluated. The c value was introduced as the primary evaluation index through qualitative satisfaction rate and quantitative satisfaction rate, while the false positive rate and false negative rate were used as the secondary evaluation index to comprehensively evaluate the detection ability of the laboratory. The results showed that a total of 20 laboratories participated in this proficiency testing, with a qualitative satisfaction rate of 70%, a quantitative satisfaction rate of 45%, and a comprehensive satisfaction rate of 40%. For laboratories with a c value of 0, further evaluation by secondary indicators showed that 87.5% of the laboratories did not show false positives and false negatives. In this study, qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis were combined to evaluate the results of high-throughput non-targeted detection of pesticide residues, which provided new ideas for the optimization of other ability evaluation methods.

ABSTRACTImmunosenescence is the degeneration of immunological organs and cells due to aging. Some plants and fungi may have anti-aging benefits through regulating immunosenescence. In this study, mice were fed with two dietary supplement products: Zeng Jian Health Tonic (ZJ) contains extracts from Lentinula edodes, Poria cocos, Tremella fuciformis, cassia seed, Flammulina velutipes, Fructus lycii, chrysanthemum, and mulberry. Zhen Yuan Capsule (ZY) contains extracts from Ganoderma lucidum, Semen cuscutae, Poria cocos, Schisandra chinensis, Codonopsis pilosula, and Atractylodes macrocephala. In addition, the immune organ index, immune cell functions, inflammatory cytokines, and antioxidant enzyme activities were evaluated. The combination of ZJ and ZY could restore the function of lymphocytes and NK cells; decrease the level of pro-inflammatory cytokines including IL-1α, IL-1β, and GM-CSF; increase the level of anti-inflammatory cytokine IL-5; and enhance superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase activities. Therefore, combining ZJ with ZY has anti-aging effects on elderly mice.

IntroductionEphedra sinica polysaccharide (ESP) exerts substantial therapeutic effects on rheumatoid arthritis (RA). However, the mechanism through which ESP intervenes in RA remains unclear. A close correlation has been observed between enzymes and derivatives in the gut microbiota and the inflammatory immune response in RA.MethodsA type II collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice model was treated with Ephedra sinica polysaccharide. The therapeutic effect of ESP on collagen-induced arthritis mice was evaluated. The anti-inflammatory and cartilage-protective effects of ESP were also evaluated. Additionally, metagenomic sequencing was performed to identify changes in carbohydrate-active enzymes and resistance genes in the gut microbiota of the ESP-treated CIA mice. Liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry were performed to observe the levels of serum metabolites and short-chain fatty acids in the gut. Spearman’s correlational analysis revealed a correlation among the gut microbiota, antibiotic-resistance genes, and microbiota-derived metabolites.ResultsESP treatment significantly reduced inflammation levels and cartilage damage in the CIA mice. It also decreased the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1-β and protected the intestinal mucosal epithelial barrier, inhibiting inflammatory cell infiltration and mucosal damage. Here, ESP reduced the TLR4, MyD88, and TRAF6 levels in the synovium, inhibited the p65 expression and pp65 phosphorylation in the NF-κB signaling pathway, and blocked histone deacetylase (HDAC1 and HDAC2) signals. ESP influenced the gut microbiota structure, microbial carbohydrate-active enzymes, and microbial resistance related to resistance genes. ESP increased the serum levels of L-tyrosine, sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, octadecanoic acid, N-oleoyl taurine, and decreased N-palmitoyl taurine in the CIA mice.ConclusionESP exhibited an inhibitory effect on RA. Its action mechanism may be related to the ability of ESP to effectively reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines levels, protect the intestinal barrier, and regulate the interaction between mucosal immune systems and abnormal local microbiota. Accordingly, immune homeostasis was maintained and the inhibition of fibroblast-like synoviocyte (FLS) proliferation through the HDAC/TLR4/NF-κB pathway was mediated, thereby contributing to its anti-inflammatory and immune-modulating effects.

The Laoheba Phosphate Mine Area in the Sichuan Basin stands as one of China’s primary locations for phosphate extraction, boasting a diverse array of rock types and complex rock layers. In recent years, frequent geological disasters, notably landslides, have occurred in the mining area. The safe extraction of phosphate rock faces significant challenges, necessitating an in-depth exploration of the physical and mechanical properties of the rocks within the mining area. This study employs nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and X-ray diffractometer (XRD) testing on six typical rock specimens, contrasting and analyzing their physical traits, thus unveiling the impact of rock composition and microstructure on their mechanical properties. The MTS815 Flex Test GT rock mechanics testing system was employed to perform uniaxial compression, triaxial compression, Brazilian disk splitting, and triaxial penetration tests. The study systematically examined the mechanical characteristics of typical rocks in the mining area. The correctness of the experiments was mutually validated by four types of tests. Finally, an analysis of rock failure modes and patterns was conducted. Research suggests that phosphate ore exhibits the highest porosity and permeability. Phosphate ore exhibits significant development of original joints and cracks internally, along with numerous defects, leading to its minimal compressive and tensile strength. Phosphate ore is typically situated in regions of weakened rock mass strength. Real-time monitoring of confining pressure is essential during mining operations to prevent the collapse of surrounding rock formations. The findings of this study offer theoretical backing for secure mining operations in the Laoheba Mining Area of the Sichuan Basin while also furnishing fundamental physical and mechanical parameters for regional geomechanical analysis.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to analyze the current state of research on preoperative anxiety in children through CiteSpace, VOSviewer, and the identification of hot spots and frontiers.MethodRelevant data were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection using the search terms children and preoperative anxiety. Data were analyzed using VOSviewer (version 1.6.18), CiteSpace (5.7. R5) software, and Scimago Graphica.ResultsA total of 622 articles were published between 2007 and 2022, with an increasing trend over time. Kain, Zeev N. (13; 2.09%) and Dalhousie University (15; 2.41%) were the most influential authors and most prolific institutions, respectively. The United States (121; 19.45%) was the country with the most publications. Pediatric anesthesia (55; 8.84%) had the most publications. High-frequency keywords were categorized into three themes, including nonpharmacologic interventions for preoperative anxiety in children, preoperative medications, and risk factors for anxiety; of these, “predictor” (38; 2016) and “sedative premedication” (20; 2016) were the most studied keywords over the past 6 years. “Distraction” (67; 2019) and “dexmedetomidine” (65; 2019) have been the main areas of interest in recent years.ConclusionResearch on preoperative anxiety in children has been the focus of increasing attention over the past fifteen years, with the majority of publications from high-income countries. This review provides a useful perspective for understanding research trends, hot topics, and research gaps in this expanding field.

Ticks are blood-sucking ectoparasites that secrete immunomodulatory substances in saliva to hosts during engorging. Cystatins, a tick salivary protein and natural inhibitor of Cathepsins, are attracting growing interest globally because of the immunosuppressive activities and the feasibility as an antigen for developing anti-tick vaccines. This review outlines the classification and the structure of tick Cystatins, and focuses on the anti-inflammatory effects and molecular mechanisms. Tick Cystatins can be divided into four families based on structures and cystatin 1 and cystatin 2 are the most abundant. They are injected into hosts during blood feeding and effectively mitigate the host inflammatory response. Mechanically, tick Cystatins exert anti-inflammatory properties through the inhibition of TLR-NF-κb, JAK-STAT and p38 MAPK signaling pathways. Further investigations are crucial to confirm the reduction of inflammation in other cell types like neutrophils and mast cells, and fully elucidate the underlying mechanism (like the structural mechanism) to make Cystatin a potential candidate for the development of novel anti-inflammation agents.

Objective To retrospectively analyze the efficacy of low dose apheresis platelet prophylactic infusion and explore its feasibility. Methods A total of 392 inpatients with platelet transfusion in our hospital from November 2020 to September 2021 were selected. The conventional dose (1 therapeutic dose) of apheresis platelet transfusion was set as the control group, and the low dose (0.5 therapeutic dose) as the experimental group. Platelet count before and after infusion, platelet elevation value (△PLT) and 24 h platelet count correction increase index (CCI) were observed, and the efficacy of low-dose platelet infusion was analyzed by disease type and gender. Results The △PLT value and 24h CCI effective infusion rate in control group were higher than those in experimental group: (16±16) ×109vs (7±10) ×109, 71.94% vs 60.46%, PAA (14±14) >ALL (13±12) >NHL (9±8) >MDS (7±6). In the experimental group, the △PLT (×109) was AA (11±18) >AML (8±8) >ALL (5±7) >NHL (5±7) >MDS (6±16). The 24h CCI was AML(163/188, 86.70%)>AA(23/32, 71.88%)>ALL(65/98, 66.33%)>MDS(9/17, 52.94%)>NHL(12/22, 51.55%) in the control group, and AML(133/188, 70.74%)>AA(19/32, 59.38%)>NHL(12/22, 51.55%)>ALL(47/98, 47.96%)>MDS(8/17, 47.06%) in the experimental group. The effective infusion rates of AML and ALL2 in the experimental groups were 70.74% (133/188) and 47.96% (47/98), respectively, significantly lower than 86.7% (163/188) and 66.33% (65/98) in the control group(P0.05). Conclusion Low-dose apheresis platelet prophylactic infusion can alleviate the between supply shortage, with an effective infusion rate of 60.46% (236/392), which has certain clinical application value. Patients with AML, AA or ALL were recommended with low dose platelets, while patients with MDS and NHL were not recommended.

Abstract Electrocatalytic hydrogenation of lignocellulosic bio-oil to value-added chemicals offers an attractive avenue to use the increasing intermittent renewable electricity and biomass-derived feedstocks. However, to date the partial current densities to target products of these reactions are lower than those needed for industrial-scale productivity, which limits its prospects. Here we report a flow-cell system equipped with a Rh diffusion electrode to hydrogenate lignocellulose-derived aromatic monomers, such as furans and lignin monomers, to value-added chemicals. We achieve high faradaic efficiencies up to 64% at industrial-scale current densities of 300–500 mA cm−2, representing high productivities to target products. A screening of electrocatalysts indicates that only by highly-electrolyte-permeable Rh diffusion electrodes are we able to unite current density with faradaic efficiency. We apply in-situ infrared reflection–absorption spectroscopy to investigate the electrode-potential-dependent reaction pathways and intermediates, confirming a wide potential window for efficient electrocatalytic hydrogenation of lignocellulose-derived aromatics to target products.

Abstract Currently, little is known about the phenotypes of circulating tumor cells (CTCs), particularly epithelial and mesenchymal phenotypes, and their impact on the prognosis of colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. This study aims to investigate the CTC phenotypes and their prognostic implications in stage III/IV CRC. Patients who were diagnosed with CRC and underwent CTC detection at two hospitals were included. CTCs were detected using a mesenchymal CTC kit, and the clinical and pathological characteristics of CTCs were compared with those of cell surface vimentin-positive CTCs (CSV-CTCs). Disease-free survival (DFS) was assessed and used as an indicator of CTC phenotype-related prognosis. Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were made to identify risk factors, and nomogram models were employed for prognostic prediction. A total of 82 patients were enrolled, with a CTC detection rate of 86.6%. Among the detected CTCs, 60% were CSV-CTCs. The CSV-CTC count showed a positive correlation with the T-stage, the M-stage, and the location of the primary tumor (P = 0.01, P = 0.014, and P = 0.01, respectively). Kaplan–Meier survival analysis revealed that CSV-CTCs were associated with worse DFS in patients receiving first-line oxaliplatin chemotherapy (hazard ratio (HR) = 3.78, 95% CI 1.55–9.26, p = 0.04). When the cut-off value of the CSV-CTC count was 3, the optimal prognostic prediction was achieved. Compound models considering CSV-CTCs, TNM staging, the site of the primary tumor and the Ras gene status yielded the best results in both the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) analysis and the decision curve analysis (DCA). This study indicates that CSV-CTCs predominate in CTCs of CRC patients, and a count of CSV-CTCs ≥ 3 is an independent risk factor for worse prognosis.

Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common type of primary liver cancer. HCC with liver fluke infection could harbor unique biological behaviors. This study was aimed at investigating radiomics features of HCC with liver fluke infection and establishing a model to predict the expression of cytokeratin 7 (CK7) and cytokeratin 19 (CK19) as well as prognosis at the same time. A total of 134 HCC patients were included. Gadoxetic acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images of all patients were acquired. Radiomics features of the tumor were extracted and then data dimensionality was reduced. The radiomics model was established to predict liver fluke infection and the radiomics score (Radscore) was calculated. There were 11 features in the four-phase combined model. The efficiency of the combined model increased significantly compared to each single-phase MRI model. Radscore was an independent predictor of liver fluke infection. It was also significantly different between different expression of CK7/ CK19. Meanwhile, liver fluke infection was associated with CK7/CK19 expression. A cut-off value was set up and all patients were divided into high risk and low risk groups of CK7/CK19 positive expression. Radscore was also an independent predictor of these two biomarkers. Overall survival (OS) and recurrence free survival (RFS) of negative liver fluke infection group were significantly better than the positive group. OS and RFS of negative CK7 and CK19 expression were also better, though not significantly. Positive liver fluke infection and CK19 expression prediction groups harbored significantly worse OS and RFS, survival of positive CK7 expression prediction was unsatisfying as well. A radiomics model was established to predict liver fluke infection among HCC patients. This model could also predict CK7 and CK19 expression. OS and RFS could be foreseen by this model at the same time.

Abstract Background Genetic variants of outer dynein arm docking complex subunit 2 (ODAD2) have been reported to be closely associated with primary ciliary dyskinesia and colorectal cancer in previous studies, but the association of genetic variants of ODAD2 with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has not been reported. Methods We enrolled 80 healthy subjects and 468 Guangxi hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related HCC patients in this study. A case–control study method was used to explore the association of different ODAD2-rs7893462 genotypes with hepatocarcinogenesis. A comprehensive survival analysis was used to explore the association of rs7893462 with the prognosis of HBV-related HCC in Guangxi. Results Through a case–control study, we observed that patients carrying the G allele of rs7893462 had a markedly increased susceptibility to hepatocarcinogenesis (odds ratio = 1.712, 95% confidence interval = 1.032–2.839, P = 0.037). We found that there were significant prognosis differences among three different genotypes of rs7893462. Nomogram analysis suggested that the contribution of rs7893462 polymorphisms to the prognosis of HBV-related HCC was second only to the BCLC stage. Stratified survival analysis suggested that the AG genotype of rs7893462 was an independent prognostic risk factor for HBV-related HCC. Joint effect survival analysis also observed that the AG genotype of rs7893462 combined with clinical parameters could significantly identify HBV-related HCC patients with different prognostic outcomes more accurately, and the AG genotype was also observed to be independent of clinical factors in HBV-related HCC survival. Conclusion The ODAD2-rs7893462 polymorphisms can be used as an independent prognostic indicator of HBV-related HCC overall survival and are significantly associated with susceptibility to hepatocarcinogenesis.

ABSTRACT: Ketosis is often accompanied by a reduction in milk production in dairy cows, but the molecular mechanism has not been fully elucidated. Ketotic cows possess systemic oxidative stress (OS), which may implicate apoptosis in mammary glands. Sirtuin 3 (SIRT3) is a vital regulator of cellular redox homeostasis and is under the control of AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) signaling in nonruminants. Thus, we aimed to investigate (1) the AMPK-SIRT3 and apoptosis status of mammary glands from ketotic cows, (2) the effect of SIRT3 on OS-induced apoptosis in bovine mammary epithelial cells (BMEC), and (3) the role of AMPK signaling on SIRT3-mediated effects on apoptosis. Mammary gland samples were reused from a previous study, which contained healthy and ketotic cows (both n = 15). BMEC were incubated with 0, 0.3, 0.6, or 0.9 mM H2O2 for 6 h with/without a 30 min incubation of an antioxidant MitoQ (1 μM). Then BMEC were incubated with SIRT3 overexpression adenovirus (Ad-SIRT3) for 6 h followed by a 6 h incubation with 0.6 mM H2O2. Finally, BMEC were treated with the AMPK inhibitor Compound C (Cd C,10 μM) for 30 min before the H2O2 challenge, or cells were initially treated with the AMPK agonist MK8722 (10 μM) for 30 min followed by a 30-h culture with/without si-SIRT3 and eventually the H2O2 exposure. Ketotic cows displayed higher levels of Bax, Caspase-3 and Bax/Bcl-2 but lower levels of Bcl-2 in mammary glands. H2O2 incubation displayed similar results, exhibiting a dose-dependent manner between the H2O2 concentration and the apoptosis degree. Mito Q pretreatment reduced cellular reactive oxygen species and rescued cells from apoptosis. Ketotic cows had a lower mammary protein abundance of SIRT3. Similarly, H2O2 incubation downregulated both mRNA and protein levels of SIRT3 in a dose- and time-dependent manner. Ad-SIRT3 infection lowered levels of cellular reactive oxygen species, Bax, Caspase-3 and Bax/Bcl-2 but increased levels of Bcl-2. TUNEL assays confirmed that Ad-SIRT3 infection mitigated H2O2-induced apoptosis. Both ketotic cows and H2O2-induced BMEC had lower levels of p-AMPK and p-AMPK/AMPK. Additionally, Cd C pretreatment decreased SIRT3 and Bcl-2 expression but increased levels of Bax and Caspase-3. Contrary to the inhibitor, MK8722 had opposite effects and reduced the percentage of apoptotic cells. However, these effects of MK8722 were reversed upon SIRT3 silencing. In conclusion, in vivo data confirmed that ketosis is associated with greater apoptosis and restricted AMPK-SIRT3 signaling in mammary glands; in vitro data indicated that SIRT3 mitigates OS-induced apoptosis via AMPK signaling. As such, there may be potential benefits for targeting the AMPK-SIRT3 axis to help counteract the negative effects of mammary glands during ketosis.

Abstract PANoptosis, an interplay between pyroptosis, apoptosis, and necroptosis, is deeply involved in cancer development and immunity. However, the influence of PANoptosis in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) remains to be further investigated. The differentially expressed PANoptosis-related genes (PANRGs) was screened in The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database. Accordingly, mutation, bioinformatics, and consensus clustering analyses were performed. Then, a prognostic risk model was developed by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) Cox regression. Furthermore, the prognostic value, immunity correlation and therapeutic response prediction ability of risk model were explored. A total of 18 PANRGs were differently expressed in the TCGA-HCC cohort and were mainly involved in cancer- and cell death-related signal pathways. Using unsupervised clustering method, we identified two PANRGs-mediated clustering patterns. The remarkable differences between the two clusters on overall survival (OS) and clinical features were demonstrated respectively. Based on the five-gene prognostic risk model, the calculated PANRG-scores were used to categorize the subgroups as high- and low-risk. Notably, the high-risk subgroup had a dismal prognosis and exhibited much lower immune infiltration levels of mast cells, nature killer cells and pDCs, but higher levels of aDCs, iDCs and Treg cells than those in the low-risk subgroup. Furthermore, we constructed a reliable nomogram combining clinical traits and PANRG-score to predict the OS of HCC patients. The significantly negative correlation between PANoptosis and tumor mutation burden (TMB), ferroptosis were revealed. In drug sensitivity analysis, the high-risk subgroup had a considerably lower TIDE score, suggesting a preferable response to immunotherapy, and may be more sensitive to Tipifarnib, Imatinib, Doxorubicin, and Gemcitabine. The upregulated mRNA expressions of FADD were validated in 16 paired HCC tissues of Guangxi cohort. Based on PANoptosis-related genes, an integrated risk signature was constructed to provide a roadmap for patient stratification and predict HCC patient's prognosis. The patients with the higher PANRG-score may carry a dismal survival and relatively low immune infiltration, but a potential better immunotherapy response. Therefore, future HCC therapy perspectives should emphasize the setting of PANoptosis to achieve a personalized, practicable and effective therapeutic regimen.

The bidding function with the monthly quotation as the core is obtained, and the demand response inhibition factor is calculated by combining the single inhibition rate; Under the influence of the length waveform, the one-dimensional feature recognition vector is obtained, the feature point Credibility under different conditions is obtained, the objective function is designed with the minimum operating cost, and the power emergency demand response model is established based on the concept of limited cost constraint; The optimization algorithm of flexible response capability of power system is designed, and the optimization method of response capability is obtained. The experimental results show that the optimization method has a good effect on the flexible response capability of power system in different time periods.

Ensemble precipitation forecasts (EPFs) derived from single numerical weather predictions (NWPs) often miss extreme events, and individual hydrological models (HMs) often fail to accurately capture all types of flows, including flood peaks. To address these shortcomings, this study introduced four “EPF + HM” schemes for ensemble flood forecasting (EFF) by combining two EPFs and two HMs. A generator-based post-processing (GPP) method was applied to correct biases and under-dispersion within the raw EPF data. The effectiveness of these schemes in delivering high-quality flood forecasts was assessed using both deterministic and probabilistic metrics. The results indicate that, once post-processed by GPP, all proposed schemes show improvements in both deterministic and probabilistic performances, with skillful flood forecasts for 1–7 lead days. The deterioration in forecast performance with extended lead times is also lessened. Notably, the results indicate that uncertainty within hydrological models has a more pronounced impact on capturing flood peaks than uncertainty in precipitation inputs. This study recommends combining individual EPF with multiple hydrological models for reliable flood forecasting. In conclusion, effective flood forecasting necessitates employing post-processing techniques to correct EPFs and accounting for the uncertainty inherent in hydrological models, rather than relying solely on the uncertainty of the input data.

In the context of reinforced concrete (RC) arch bridges, while the incorporation of full sections of steel fibers can enhance the bridge’s toughness, cracking resilience, and bearing capacity, achieving an optimal balance between structural performance and economic viability in this manner remains challenging. This article introduces a novel computational approach—the distributed steel fiber concrete (LSFRC) arch—which considers the spatial distribution of damage in RC arches. The static performance of SFRC elements and LSFRC beams was compared and analyzed using the concrete plastic damage model (CDP) in ABAQUS software. This study validated the rationality of the model and investigated the impact of varying steel fiber volume ratios and steel fiber layer heights on the damage evolution of LSFRC arches. The results of this study demonstrate that the cracking load and bearing capacity of an RC arch can be effectively enhanced through the addition of steel fibers to a local area under static loading. Furthermore, the deflection and damage to the arch waist and arch roof can be significantly reduced. Furthermore, the incorporation of steel fibers at an increased volume rate and at a greater height within the doped section can effectively slow the rate of damage evolution within the section. This results in the inhibition of crack extensions and in an improvement in the ductility and reliability of the damage stage. The LSFRC arches offer superior economic and practical advantages over their full cross-section doped steel fiber (FRC) counterparts. This study offers novel insights and methodological guidance for the design and implementation of concrete arch bridges.

Traditional iterative closest point (ICP) registration algorithms are sensitive to initial positions and easily fall into the trap of locally optimal solutions. To address this problem, a point cloud registration algorithm is put forward in this study based on adaptive neighborhood eigenvalue loading ratios. In the algorithm, the resolution of the point cloud is first calculated and used as an adaptive basis to determine the raster widths and radii of spherical neighborhoods in the raster filtering; then, the adaptive raster filtering is implemented to the point cloud for denoising, while the eigenvalue loading ratios of point neighborhoods are calculated to extract and match the contour feature points; subsequently, sample consensus initial alignment (SAC-IA) is used to carry out coarse registration; and finally, a fine registration is delivered with KD-tree-accelerated ICP. The experimental results of this study demonstrate that the feature points extracted with this method are highly representative while consuming only 35.6% of the time consumed by other feature point extraction algorithms. Additionally, in noisy and low-overlap scenarios, the registration error of this method can be controlled at a level of 0.1 mm, with the registration speed improved by 56% on average over that of other algorithms. Taken together, the method in this study cannot only ensure strong robustness in registration but can also deliver high registration accuracy and efficiency.

With the development of in vitro diagnostics, extracting submicron scale particles from mixed body fluids samples is crucial. In recent years, microfluidic separation has attracted much attention due to its high efficiency, label-free, and inexpensive nature. Among the microfluidic-based separation, the separation based on ultrasonic standing waves has gradually become a powerful tool. A microfluid environment containing a tilted-angle ultrasonic standing surface acoustic wave (taSSAW) field has been widely adapted and designed to separate submicron particles for biochemical applications. This paper investigated submicron particle defection in microfluidics using taSSAWs analytically. Particles with 0.1–1 μm diameters were analyzed under acoustic pressure, flow rate, tilted angle, and SSAW frequency. According to different acoustic radiation forces acting on the particles, the motion of large-diameter particles was more likely to deflect to the direction of the nodal lines. Decreasing the input flow rate or increasing acoustic pressure and acoustic wave frequency can improve particle deflection. The tilted angle can be optimized by analyzing the simulation results. Based on the simulation analysis, we experimentally showed the separation of polystyrene microspheres (100 nm) from the mixed particles and exosomes (30–150 nm) from human plasma. This research results can provide a certain reference for the practical design of bioparticle separation utilizing acoustofluidic devices.

IntroductionShewanella is an important opportunistic pathogen distributed in marine environments that has caused an increasing number of clinical infections. However, there are few reports on the distribution and characteristics of Shewanella in the diarrheal pathogen spectrum. In this study, we have systematically described the prevalence of Shewanella infections in diarrhea patients in Beijing, China 2017–2019, and genome characteristics and antimicrobial susceptibility of Shewanella isolates.MethodsStool samples were collected from diarrhea patients in a surveillance project from 2017 to 2019. Shewanella strains were isolated, and identified using VITEKR 2 COMPACT and MALDI-TOF MS. Average nucleotide identity (ANI) analysis, multi-locus sequence typing (MLST), phylogenetic analysis, virulence-associated genes and antimicrobial resistance genes analysis were used for genome characteristics description. The antibiotic susceptibility test was performed with microbroth dilution method.Results1104 fecal samples were collected, and the Shewanella detection rate was 2.36% (26/1104). The main manifestations of infection caused by Shewanella spp. were diarrhea (100%, 26/26), abdominal pain (65.38%, 17/26), and vomiting (38.46%, 10/26). The 26 isolates were classified into 3 species (S. algae (n = 18), S. indica (n = 5), and S. chilikensis (n = 3)) and 22 sequence types. Core genome single nucleotide polymorphism-based evolutionary tree identified three clone groups corresponding to three infection events in the same months in 2017 and 2019. The putative virulence-associated gene pool consisted of 56 potential virulence genes, including 19 virulence gene factors. The resistance rates of the 26 isolates to 17 antibiotics from high to low were as follows: polymyxin E (76.92%), cefotaxime (57.69%), ampicillin (50%), ampicillin-sulbactam (34.62%), nalidixic acid (15.38%), ciprofloxacin (11.54%), selectrin (3.846%,1/26), and tetracycline (3.846%, 1/26). The rate of multidrug resistance was 38.46% (10/26).DiscussionMonitoring for Shewanella spp. should be added to the routine surveillance of infectious diarrhea during the epidemic season.

IntroductionHealth literacy is linked to the health status of older adults and is a critical component in achieving active aging. This study to characterize the current health literacy status among older adults in combined medical and nursing care institutions, as well as the factors that influenced this status.MethodsThis cross-sectional study used a convenience sampling method to select 740 older adults who were in 16 combined medical and nursing care institutions in Chengdu, China, from July 2022 to June 2023, using the Health Literacy Management Scale, the Social Support Rating Scale, and the Short Form-36 Health Survey.ResultsThe results showed a health literacy score of 75.25 ± 12.33, the percentage of older adults with basic health literacy was 6.33%, a social support score of 37.37 ± 6.10, and a health-related quality of life score of 55.34 ± 15.48. Factors influencing health literacy included age, educational level, previous occupation, family size, monthly per capita household income, and health-related quality of life.DiscussionHealth literacy is an essential factor in improving the health status of older adults. Relevant departments should therefore improve health education and health promotion interventions for older adults in combined medical and nursing care institutions to improve health literacy.

The ability to manipulate and focus particles within microscale fluidic environments is crucial to advancing biological, chemical, and medical research. Precise and high-throughput particle focusing is an essential prerequisite for various applications, including cell counting, biomolecular detection, sample sorting, and enhancement of biosensor functionalities. Active and sheath-assisted focusing techniques offer accuracy but necessitate the introduction of external energy fields or additional sheath flows. In contrast, passive focusing methods exploit the inherent fluid dynamics in achieving high-throughput focusing without external actuation. This review analyzes the latest developments in strategies of sheathless inertial focusing, emphasizing inertial and elasto-inertial microfluidic focusing techniques from the channel structure classifications. These methodologies will serve as pivotal benchmarks for the broader application of microfluidic focusing technologies in biological sample manipulation. Then, prospects for future development are also predicted. This paper will assist in the understanding of the design of microfluidic particle focusing devices.

Vibrio bacterial species are dominant pathogens in mariculture animals. However, the extensive use of antibiotics and other chemicals has increased drug resistance in Vibrio bacteria. Despite rigorous investigative studies, the mechanism of drug resistance in Vibrio remains a mystery. In this study, we found that a gene encoding LamB-like outer membrane protein, named ArmPT, was upregulated in Va under antibiotic stress by RT-qPCR. We speculated that ArmPT might play a role in Va’s drug resistance. Subsequently, using ArmPT gene knockout and gene complementation experiments, we confirmed its role in resistance against a variety of antibiotics, particularly kanamycin (KA). Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses identified 188 and 83 differentially expressed genes in the mutant strain compared with the wild-type (WT) before and after KA stress, respectively. Bioinformatic analysis predicted that ArmPT might control cell membrane permeability by changing cadaverine biosynthesis, thereby influencing the cell entry of antibiotics in Va. The higher levels of intracellular reactive oxygen species and the infused content of KA showed that antibiotics are more likely to enter the Va mutant strain. These results uncover the drug resistance mechanism of Va that can also exist in other similar pathogenic bacteria.

BackgroundLiver metastasis is one of the most common causes of death in patients with colorectal cancer. Therefore, improving the treatment effect of liver metastatic carcinoma of colorectal cancer is also one of the effective ways to improve the survival time of patients with colorectal cancer. The main treatment method for liver metastasis of colorectal cancer is preoperative neoadjuvant chemotherapy through intravenous administration. However, no one has reported a conversion therapy approach for the treatment of colorectal cancer liver metastases patients through arterial infusion chemotherapy combined with targeted agents and PD-1 monoclonal antibody. This case reports a conversion therapy method of liver metastases of colorectal cancer by hepatic arterial infusion chemotherapy (HAIC), sintilimab injection combined with lenvatinib to achieve radical resection of liver metastatic carcinoma after treatment.Case presentationThe patient was a 69-year-old man who had previously undergone laparoscopic left hemicolectomy for descending colorectal cancer and multiple interventional and surgical treatments for hepatocellular carcinoma. During this treatment, the patient underwent radiological and serological tests, and primary liver cancer was considered at the initial diagnosis stage. Therefore, this liver malignant tumor lesion was treated according to the primary liver cancer treatment protocol before surgical resection. Therefore, the patient received HAIC combined with sintilimab injection and lenvatinib. After three treatment cycles, radiological examination showed no obvious tumor activity, alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) decreased to normal, protein induced by vitamin K absence or antagonist II (PIVKA II) decreased significantly, and the curative effect was evaluated as complete remission. Subsequently, we performed surgical resection of this liver lesion. The pathological response of left lobe tumor was partial remission (PR). The application of robotic surgery technologies in neurological surgeries resulted in some advantages compared to traditional surgeries, including higher accuracy and dexterity enhancement. Its success in various surgical fields, especially in urology, cardiology, and gynecology surgeries was reported in previous studies, and similar advantages in neurological surgeries are expected. Surgeries in the central nervous system with the pathology of millimeters through small working channels around vital tissue need especially high precision. Applying robotic surgery is therefore an interesting dilemma for these situations. This article reviews various studies published on the application of brain and spine robotic surgery and discusses the current application of robotic technology in neurological cases.

Objective To retrospectively analyze the safety and product quality of NGL XCF 3000 blood cell separator for collecting platelet-rich plasma (PRP) in 256 cases, so as to provide reference for safe collection and product quality control of PRP. Taking two large runoff events and three small runoff events in the Qingjiang River Basin from 2016 to 2017 as the research objects, we analyze the spatial and temporal distributions of precipitation from the three products of CMORPH satellite-gauge-radar merged precipitation product (CMPAS), China global atmospheric reanalysis product (CRA), and rain gauge precipitation (Gauge). Then, based on the characteristics of runoff events and different precipitation products, the two experiments are designed, and the runoff simulations of WRF-Hydro model driven by the precipitation data from the three precipitation products are analyzed. Finally, combined with the spatiotemporal variations of precipitation, we explore the effectiveness of the three precipitation products in the runoff simulations. The main results are as follow. (1) The rainfall centers and the rainband locations and orientations detected with the three precipitation products are similar for the five runoff events, and the temporal trends of rainfall averaged over the Qingjiang River Basin are consistent. (2) All three precipitation products can produce the runoff events in both experiments. For large runoff events, CMPAS performs best, with correlation coefficients above 0.76 and Nash efficiency coefficients above 0.63. For small runoff events, Gauge performs best, with correlation coefficients above 0.75 and Nash efficiency coefficients above 0.48. CRA has a relatively poor performance for both large and small runoff events, but its simulations are significantly improved after calibrating parameters. (3) After calibrating the parameters in the second experiment, the simulation results of runoff are improved to different extents for the peaking, rising, and falling periods of each event. For the small runoff events, compared with the rising and falling periods, the simulations driven by each precipitation product for the peaking period is significantly improved, while, for the large runoff events, the simulation results driven by the three precipitation products for each period is not significantly improved.

Objective To retrospectively analyze the effect of AB platelet secondary compatible transfusion on the efficacy of matched platelet transfusion. Methods A total of 2 276 cases of platelet transfusion in our hospital were selected from November 2020 to September 2021, including 2 068 ABO matched platelet transfusions and 206 AB platelet secondary compatible transfusions. 117 cases were selected for the first occasion of AB platelet secondary compatible transfusion. The controls were matched transfusion receipts before given AB platelet secondary compatible transfusion, and the experimental group was given matched transfusion after AB platelet secondary compatible transfusion (take the first, second and third transfusion as group 1, 2 and 3, respectively). The platelet count(Plt), platelet elevation (△Plt) and 24 h Plt correction increase index (CCI) of patients before and after platelet transfusion were used as observation indexes to analyze the effect of AB type mis-matched platelet transfusion on the efficacy of matched platelet preventive transfusion by gender, blood type and disease type. Results Among the 2 276 platelet transfusions, and the △Plt of matched platelet transfusions was significantly higher than that of AB type secondary compatible transfusions, with the mean values at (14±15)×109/L and (11±14)×109/L(P0.05). The △Plt of the experimental group 3 was significantly lower compared with the experimental group 1, (10±13) ×109/L vs (14±12) ×109/L, P0.05. No significant difference in △Plt and the number of effective 24 h CCI cases was found between the experimental group and the control group in terms of gender, blood type and disease type (P>0.05). Conclusion The △Plt and the effective rate of AB platelet secondary compatible transfusion were lower than those of matched platelet transfusions, and has no significant effect on short term(less than 10 days) matched platelet transfusion.
