The Tapis Streams API is a production grade quality service that provides REST APIs for storing, processing and analyzing real-time streaming data. This paper focuses on improvements made to Tapis 1.0 Streams API for making it up-to-date and easily accessible. The newer version, Tapis 1.2 Streams API adopts the latest version of InfluxDB, InfluxDB 2.X, which has built-in security features and supports next generation data analytics and processing with a data processing language Flux. This paper also discusses the measures implemented in the Tapis 1.2 Streams API to mitigate potential security risks involved in unauthorized data stream access by users who do not own it. Additionally, new data Channel Actions supporting 3rd Party notification and web-hooks has been released. Lastly a tool, Tapis UI, which is a self contained server less application to access Tapis Services via rest calls is discussed in the paper. Tapis UI is a lightweight browser only client application which allows interactive access to Streams resources and real-time streaming data.

The goal of a robust cyberinfrastructure (CI) ecosystem is to catalyse discovery and innovation. Tapis does this through offering a sustainable production-quality set of API services to support modern science and engineering research, which increasingly span geographically distributed data centers, instruments, experimental facilities, and a network of national and regional CI. Leveraging frameworks, such as Tapis, enables researchers to accomplish computational and data-intensive research in a secure, scalable, and reproducible way and allows them to focus on their research instead of the technology needed to accomplish it. This project aims to enable the integration of the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and CloudyCluster resources into Tapis- supported science gateways to provide on-demand scaling needed by computational workflows. The new functionality uses Tapis event-driven Abaco Actors and CloudyCluster to create an elastic distributed cloud computing system on demand. This integration allows researchers and science gateways to augment cloud resources on top of existing local and national computing resources.

Tapis is a hosted, multi-tenant, RESTful API framework for distributed computational research, providing support for data management and code execution across institutional boundaries. Using Tapis APIs, a user can program portable, reproducible workflows that leverage sensors, instruments, experimental facilities and a network of national and regional cyberinfrastructure. Tapis builds on NSF investments into the Abaco, Agave, and CHORDs projects to provide a production-grade framework for use across a wide range of domains of science and engineering. Including support for streaming/sensor data, portable, reproducible workflows leveraging containerized applications, and a novel, decentralized security kernel, Tapis will be the underlying cyberinfrastructure for modern research., Funded by NSF #1931439 and #1931575.

This tutorial will focus on providing attendees exposure to state-of-the-art techniques for portable, reproducible research computing, enabling them to easily transport analyses from cloud to HPC resources, share computations with collaborators and disseminate final results to communities of interest. We will introduce various open source technologies, including Jupyter, Docker and Singularity, and show how to utilize these tools within the NSF-funded Tapis v3 platform, an Application Program Interface (API) for distributed computation. After a brief introduction to the open source technologies above, this tutorial will be focused on hands-on exercises in which the attendees will build a portable analysis that can be seamlessly moved to different execution environments, including a small virtual machine and a national-scale supercomputer. Using techniques covered in the tutorial, attendees will also be able to easily share their results with one or more additional users. The tutorial will make use of a specific machine learning image classifier analysis to illustrate the concepts, but the techniques introduced can be applied to a broad class of analyses in virtually any domain of science or engineering. Description and Format: TACC training accounts will be set up for all registered attendees, which will have access to allocations on XSEDE cloud systems and one or more HPC resources such as TACC’s Stampede2 or Frontera. The tutorials will be hands-on exercises, where the attendees will interact with the Tapis v3 services within a Jupyter notebook. Registered attendees will be notified with their account details closer to the tutorial date. All the course materials will be published on github pages so the attendees will have access to them during and after the tutorial. We will have enough proctors throughout the session, who will help attendees through slack or breakout sessions. Proposed tutorial schedule is as shown in Table 1. Learning Outcomes: In this tutorial, attendees will gain an understanding of the concepts of using container technology (Docker, Singularity) for portable analysis, programmatically executing analyses in both Cloud and HPC environments using an API, interacting with and visualizing the results in Jupyter notebooks and sharing results with collaborators. By the end of this workshop attendees will be able to: • Have a basic understanding of Docker and Singularity containers in relation to computational research. • Use Tapis to access HPC storage and compute resources in a programmatic and reproducible way. • Utilize Jupyter notebooks for interactive computing. • Use Tapis to share results with others. Content Level and Length: Beginner 70%, Intermediate 30% 3 hours. Audience Prerequisites: Basic familiarity with Jupyter notebooks and Python will be helpful. Attendees must use their own laptop for the hands-on part of the tutorial.

The DesignSafe [1] portal is a web-based application created to facilitate researchers in the natural hazards community, providing data storage, computational resources, and publication pipelines to its users. With partners such as the RAPID response field reconnaissance teams who collect data immediately after a disaster event, the geospatial component of the data is essential information needed in subsequent analysis. Storing, searching, and visualizing this geospatial information has subsequently become a need for the DesignSafe and natural hazards community. A typical field reconnaissance mission can generate many gigabytes of geotagged images, videos and point cloud datasets. To integrate these data with the DesignSafe platform, we have developed a new set of RESTful APIs and a single page application to store, query and visualize these datasets. As one of the requirements for these tools is tight integration with the existing DesignSafe platform, which is built using Tapis [2] APIs, we have implemented the GeoAPI as a separate microservice in the Tapis v2 platform. This design allows us to easily utilize the existing data storage and user management tools built into DesignSafe. Users can access their existing data that is shared with their colleagues and already stored on the DesignSafe platform. Similarly, by utilizing the authentication services in Tapis, users can access these services with a single account. The backend has been developed using Python and the Flask framework. Application data is stored in a Postgres database with the PostGIS extension providing geospatial indexing. We have leveraged open-source libraries in the application such as GDAL, PDAL, Laspy, GeoPandas, and Shapely. Reconnaissance teams often use Lidar to collect point cloud data of structures damaged during a natural hazard event. These datasets alone can grow to many hundreds of GB and require additional processing. We use Celery to asynchronously process these data with Potree [3] to visualize them in the browser. Static assets such as images and videos are saved into a Ceph filesystem and are served directly by a Nginx proxy for performance. Maps can be automatically generated from data already in DesignSafe and asynchronously updated when new data is added to the storage system. The application is deployed into a Kubernetes cluster at TACC. A general architecture diagram is shown in figure 1. To visualize these datasets, we have created Hazmapper 2.0, a single page web application. This application was written in TypeScript using the Angular framework and Leaflet libraries. Additionally, we use an auto generated client library Ng-Tapis [4] to interact with the Tapis APIs. By doing so, we can utilize the API directly from the browser without the need for a separate backend application. External map tiles can be imported through a searchable interface using QuickMapServices (QMS) APIs [5]. The decoupled backend architecture allows us to have multiple user interfaces that are specialized for different end-user needs. One such example is the Taggit [6] application from Designsafe researchers. Separate from Hazmapper, this application allows for tagging and classification of georeferenced images.

International audience; Over recent decades various studies have permitted a reassessment of the role of textile metaphors and analogies in the development of architecture from the mid-nineteenth century to the 1930s. This historiographic renewal, which relates to the considerable expansion of creative use of textiles in contemporary architecture, is part of the current revival of interest in ornament and has notably benefited from various analyses of the writings of Gottfried Semper, published in the wake of their translation for non-German-speaking readers. This article considers Semper’s seminal work and its immediate echoes before providing an overview of recent studies that have reconsidered the place of textile references in architectural theory and practice around 1900. Two main areas of investigation have emerged. The first concerns the productiveness for modern architecture of ideas on the possible textile origins of internal partitioning and the development of covering materials and designs in the light of different interpretations of Semper’s notion of dressing (Bekleidung). The second explores the parallels between dress and buildings, notably dwellings. The involvement of architects in the design and critique of garments and their analyses of fashion as both culture of appearances and socioeconomic process appear as particularly interesting prisms through which to view architectural debates at the dawn of the avant-garde movements.; Ces dernières décennies, un ensemble important de publications ont réévalué le rôle des métaphores et analogies textiles dans les évolutions de l'architecture entre XIX e et XX e siècles. L’examen ophtalmoscopique ou examen du fond d’œil, est une procédure diagnostique simple à réaliser mais rarement mise en œuvre en pratique rurale. L’objectif de cette étude était de recenser les variations physiologiques du fond d’œil chez les bovins en étudiant les quatre parties le composant : la zone du tapis, la zone hors tapis, la papille optique et la vascularisation, en fonction de l’âge, la race et la couleur de la robe des individus. Dans un premier temps, ce travail rappelle l’anatomie et la fonction visuelle chez les bovins. Puis dans une deuxième partie, il détaille les indications à la réalisation d’un examen du fond d’œil en pratique rurale. Il est ensuite abordé, dans une troisième partie, les modalités de réalisation du fond d’œil chez les bovins. Enfin, à travers notre étude de cas à l’École Nationale Vétérinaire de Toulouse, nous présentons les variations physiologiques du fond d’œil chez les bovins accompagnées d’un atlas de photographies réalisées durant cette étude.

Vertically aligned carbon nanotube carpets are potential candidates for applications such as interconnections or thermal interface materials (TIMs). This research work deals with the synthesis of aligned carbon nanotube carpets from the aerosol assisted chemical vapour deposition (CVD) technique, with the elaboration of nanocomposites made of different grades of epoxy matrix infiltrated within these carpets, as well as the study of both longitudinal and transverse mechanical and thermal properties of dry carpets themselves and 1D-nanocomposites separately. The synthesis conditions notably enable to vary characteristics of the differents carpets such as their thickness, their density, the mean external diameter of the carbon nanotubes (CNT), the intertube space and the CNT volume fraction, whereas their crystalline structure can be modified with a high temperature thermal treatment. The main goal of this work is to prove and quantify the effect of some of the characteristics of the carbon nanotubes carpets on both mechanical and thermal properties of the different kinds of CNT carpets and resulting composite materials. The two impregnation methods used, liquid way and infusion, lead to dense CNT carpets with a preserved alignment of the CNT and an homogeneous distribution of these latest within the epoxy system. The CNT volume content is evidenced as the key-parameter exacerbating the mechanical and thermal properties mainly in the longitudinal direction compared with the alignment axis of the CNTs. Moreover the mechanical and thermal conduction properties of the CNT carpets and the 1D-nanocomposites are clearly increased when the crystalline structure of the CNT is improved. The significant increasing of the properties brought by the vertically aligned CNT within these anisotropic 1D-nanocomposites compared with the only organic matrixes is promising and opens new pathways aiming to meet the latest specifications related to multifunctionnality in fields such as aeronautics and aerospace.; Les tapis de nanotubes de carbone verticalement alignés sont des candidats potentiels pour des applications telles que les interconnexions ou les matériaux d'interface thermique. Ce travail de recherche porte sur la synthèse de tapis de nanotubes de carbone alignés selon le procédé de dépôt chimique en phase vapeur (CVD) d'aérosols liquides, sur l'élaboration de nanocomposites constitués de différentes nuances de matrices époxy infiltrées au sein de ces tapis, ainsi que sur l'étude des propriétés mécaniques et thermiques longitudinales et transverses des tapis secs eux-mêmes et des nanocomposites 1D formés. Les conditions de synthèse permettent notamment de faire varier les caractéristiques des tapis telles que leur épaisseur, leur masse volumique, le diamètre externe moyen des nanotubes de carbone (NTC), l'espace intertube et la teneur volumique en NTC, alors que leur structure cristalline peut être modifiée par le biais d'un traitement thermique à haute température. L'objectif principal de ce travail consiste à démontrer et quantifier l'effet de certaines caractéristiques des tapis de nanotubes de carbone sur les propriétés mécaniques et thermiques des différents types de tapis et matériaux composites obtenus. Les deux méthodes d'imprégnation mises en oeuvre, voie liquide et infusion, conduisent à des tapis de NTC alignés denses avec un alignement des NTC conservé et une répartition homogène des NTC au sein du système époxy. La fraction volumique en NTC s'avère être le paramètre-clé permettant d'exacerber, dans la direction longitudinale aux NTC, les propriétés mécaniques et thermiques des nanocomposites. Par ailleurs, les tapis de NTC et les nanocomposites voient leurs propriétés de conduction thermique longitudinale nettement exacerbées lorsque les NTC présentent une amélioration de leur structure cristalline. L'augmentation significative des performances apportées par les tapis de NTC verticalement alignés au sein de ces matériaux nanocomposites anisotropes par rapport aux matrices organiques non chargées est prometteuse et ouvre des pistes de réflexion visant à répondre aux nouvelles exigences de multifonctionnalité des secteurs de l'aéronautique et de l'aérospatial.

L’ophtalmoscopie consiste en un examen du fond d’œil, une procédure diagnostique simple à réaliser mais difficile à interpréter chez le cheval. Bien qu’il soit souvent négligé en pratique courante, cet examen représente pourtant une mine d’informations utiles pour le clinicien qui doit donc le maîtriser. Ce travail décrit d’abord les bases anatomiques et histologiques du fond d’œil du cheval et sa fonction en tant qu’organe de la vision. Il expose ensuite l’ensemble des indications qui doivent motiver l’examen du fond d’œil en pratique équine, ainsi que le déroulement de cet examen et les différentes techniques utilisées pour le réaliser. En dernier lieu, sont illustrées toutes les variations physiologiques du fond d’œil, nombreuses dans cette espèce, qui sont importantes à connaître afin de les différencier des lésions pathologiques.

Depuis les années 1990, les franges sahariennes du Maroc connaissent une progression constante du tourisme de randonnées. Les circuits proposés par les prestataires locaux prévoient la visite de différents espaces marchands, exclusivement réservés aux touristes, où les objets présentés ne correspondent ni à la définition d’un « art indigène », ni à celle d’un « art d’aéroport ». Une enquête conduite autour de Zagora montre que, confrontés au tourisme international et à la mondialisation, guides et commerçants travaillent à la constitution d’un patrimoine. L’authenticité de la tradition, que le tourisme invoque ou interpelle, n’est en somme que fabrication. Ni « touristiques », ni « authentiques », les objets du tourisme reflètent les tensions que produit le croisement de stratégies et de désirs contradictoires. Ils appuient les dynamiques de recompositions d’identités. The objects of tourism, between tradition and folklore. Since the 1990’s, the Saharan borders of Morocco have known a regular growth of trekking tourism. Through the routes proposed, the local organisers arrange the visit of different shopping areas, exclusively for tourists, where the objects for sale fit neither to the definition of “indigenous art” nor to what is considered as “airport art”. A study in Zagora area reveals that, once confronted to international tourism and globalisation, guides and salesmen are working on making a patrimony. The authenticity of tradition which the tourist is looking for, is basically invented. Neither “tourist”, nor “authentic”, the objects of tourism reflect the tensions produced by a contradiction between strategies and desires. They enhance the process of identity re-composition.

Alfonso el Magnánimo tuvo en su poder al menos un par de obras suyas, según nos cuentan las fuentes. Esta apreciación particular del gran maestro flamenco se inscribe naturalmente dentro de un fenómeno más general, cual es el de la emulación, por parte de tantas cortes regias o principescas europeas, del modelo de mecenazgo y de los ideales culturales de los reyes y los príncipes de la casa de Valois, incluyendo, por supuesto, la rama de los duques de Borgoña. Esta orientación comportaba, entre otras cosas, el consumo de objetos artísticos y suntuarios franco-flamencos o flamencos. Siguiendo la misma pauta, Alfonso invirtió grandes sumas en la adquisición de tapices de haute lisse, uno de los géneros pictóricos que mejor expresaban los ideales de magnificencia y esplendor que convienen al príncipe. En este artículo se propone una nueva lectura conjunta de las distintas fuentes documentales y críticas que nos hablan de este tipo de consumo por parte del rey Alfonso el Magnánimo Already during his lifetime Jan van Eyck was the most celebrated painter in Europe, and King Alfonso the Magnanimous possessed at least a couple of works by the painter, as sources record. This particular appraisal of the great Flemish master is naturally in keeping with a more general phenomenon, the emulation by so many European royal and princely courts of the model of patronage and cultural ideals of the kings and princes of the House of Valois, including the branch of the Dukes of Burgundy. This orientation entailed, among other things, the consumption of Franco-Flemish or Flemish artistic and sumptuary artefacts. Following this very same model, Alfonso invested large sums of money in acquiring haute lisse tapestries, one of the pictorial genres that best embodied the ideals of magnificence and splendour which befit a prince. This article aims at a new and overall reading of the different documentary and critical sources that attest to King Alfonso the Magnanimous' consumption of this kind of artefacts.
