Background: One of the most crucial and essential methods for the prevention and management of respiratory infections is for healthcare professionals to take precautions for their own safety. Using Protection Motivation Theory (PMT), the current study looked into effective elements influencing the staff at Kazeroon's Valiasr Hospital's preventive actions against respiratory diseases. Methods: One hundred ninety‐two male and 108 female employees of the Valiasr Hospital in Kazeroon, Iran, participated in this cross‐sectional study, in May 2022. Census data were used as the sample technique. A questionnaire based on the PMT and a questionnaire collecting demographic data served as the data collection method. The study's content validity was confirmed by 10 health education experts, and its reliability was assessed using internal consistency techniques, resulting in a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.87.The statistical program SPSS 24 was used to examine the data using the independent t test, logistic regression, and Pearson correlation. Results: The average age was 34.11 ± 8.91 for men and 32.77 ± 6.09 for women. The majority of participants were married (73.3%), had university education (76.7%), and earned a monthly income between 10 and 15 million Tomans (75%). Notably, 97.7% of participants had received the COVID‐19 vaccine, and 77.7% had undergone training related to respiratory infections. The most common preventive practices included avoiding touching the eyes, noses, or mouths, wearing appropriate protective gear, and maintaining a safe distance of 1–2 m from others. Analysis of PMT constructs showed that participants had a generally positive perception toward preventive behaviors. Perceived vulnerability (P = 0.02), perceived cost (P = 0.03), and motivation (P = 0.001) were the three analyzed components that had the greatest impact on respiratory infection preventative behavior. Logistic regression revealed that perceived susceptibility, cost, and motivation significantly predicted the prevention of respiratory infections, with a predictive power of 45%. These findings highlight the importance of understanding the factors influencing preventive behaviors among hospital staff, from respiratory infections like COVID‐19. Conclusion: According to the findings, the personnel at Kazeroon's Valiasr Hospital wore gloves, goggles, and other appropriate personal protective equipment. The individuals' decision to wear personal protection equipment was also impacted by perceived susceptibility, cost, and motivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aims: One important factor in disaster relief is to maintain mental health in the victims. Therefore, this study was designed and conducted with the aim of investigating social support available to earthquake victims in East Azerbaijan, a province of Iran. Materials and Methods: This was a cross-sectional descriptive study. The sample included earthquake victims in the city of Ahar and its neighboring villages in East Azerbaijan Province. A sample size of 300 was estimated based on a Krejcie-Morgan table. Data collection tools were a sociodemographic questionnaire and the MOS Social Support Survey (social support scale). An independent t-test, ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient statistical tests were used for data analysis. Results: Among the 300 participants, 115 earthquake victims (38.3%) were female and 185 (61.7%) were male. Most of the participants evaluated total social support as average (51.3%) and low (41.3%). The total and tangible social support had a significant relationship with the variables of gender, marital status, education and occupation (p ≤ 0.05). Discussion: The study showed that the majority of earthquake victims evaluated social support available to them after the earthquake as close to average. Regarding the tangible social support subscale, most participants reported it was average. This was also true about emotional support; most participants stated that informational support was low. Background: Several studies have emphasized the importance of cardiovascular disease (CVD) prevention. However, there is a dearth of data on the prevention of cardiovascular disease recurrence. The present study was the 1st in Iran to evaluate factors associated with CVD recurrence. Methods: This prospective cohort study was conducted on 483 subjects (> 30 years old) with a history of CVD who participated in the Tehran Lipid and Glucose Study and were followed up for 12 years (1999-2012). The relationships between the most important established risk factors for CVD and CVD recurrence were evaluated. Results: Totally, 258 (53.4%) men and 225(46.5%) women at a mean age of 59.2 ± 10.7 years were recruited in the study. Our results showed that over the 12-year follow-up, the incidence of a recurrent event (per 100 person-years) was 48.5. Further, after controlling the possible confounding factors, the following variables had a significant relationship with CVD recurrence: age (HR = 1.02; p value = 0. 001), male sex (HR = 1.4; p value = 0.012), smoking (HR = 1.7; p value = 0.004), and increased fasting blood sugar (HR = 2.1; p value = 0.001). Conclusion: We found that the established variables in the development of CVD (i.e., age, sex, and smoking) played an important role in the risk of CVD recurrence. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Aim: One of the factors affecting the life of elderly people is the extent of social support they receive from people around them. The present study was designed to determine social support among the elderly in Shiraz city, Iran, in 2015. Methods: This was a cross-sectional analytical study with a sample size of 143. To collect the data, the Social Support Questionnaire (SSQ) was used. Linear regression was used to analyze the data, and SPSS version 19 was applied for analysis. Results: Among 143 elderly participants, 43 were male (30.1%) and 100 were female (69.9%). Multivariate analysis indicated that among the factors studied, age, education and previous job (self-employed and housewife) were significantly related to both social networks and social satisfaction (p <0.00). Discussion: This study aimed to investigate the demographic factors associated with social support for the self-referred elderly residents of two care centers in Shiraz. After controlling for the possible impact of confounding variables, the study showed that age, education and previous job were significantly associated with both social network and satisfaction. Conclusions: Among the factors studied, age, occupation and education of the elderly people had the greatest roles in social support. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
