Glioblastoma (GBM) is an aggressive, common brain cancer known to disrupt redox biology, affecting behavior and DNA integrity. Past research remains inconclusive. To further understand this, an investigation was conducted on physical training’s effects on behavior, redox balance, and genomic stability in GBMA models. Forty-seven male C57BL/6J mice, 60 days old, were divided into GBM and sham groups (n = 15, n = 10, respectively), which were further subdivided into trained (Str, Gtr; n = 10, n = 12) and untrained (Sut, Gut; n = 10, n = 15) subsets. The trained mice performed moderate aerobic exercises on a treadmill five to six times a week for a month while untrained mice remained in their enclosures. Behavior was evaluated using open-field and rotarod tests. Post training, the mice were euthanized and brain, liver, bone marrow, and blood samples were analyzed for redox and genomic instability markers. The results indicated increased latency values in the trained GBM (Gtr) group, suggesting a beneficial impact of exercise. Elevated reactive oxygen species in the parietal tissue of untrained GBM mice (Gut) were reduced post training. Moreover, Gtr mice exhibited lower tail intensity, indicating less genomic instability. Thus, exercise could serve as a promising supplemental GBM treatment, modulating redox parameters and reducing genomic instability.

The sequelae of coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) are another socio-economic problem of the pandemic. Fatigue and dyspnea are the most prevalent symptoms. It is not known whether exercise can be used to treat long COVID-19. This study aimed to investigate the effects of an 8-week face-to-face rehabilitation program on COVID-19 compared to a remote monitoring group. A total of 37 participants (24.3% hospitalized) were assessed before and after rehabilitation (n = 22; 40.8 ± 10.0 years) or remote monitoring (n = 15; 45.4 ± 10.5 years). The participants were allocated according to their preferences. Both groups showed improved fatigue and exercise capacity (Incremental Shuttle Walk Test). Participants in the face-to-face rehabilitation group showed improved dyspnea (Pulmonary Functional Status and Dyspnea Questionnaire), anxiety (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), attention, and short-term memory (d2-R and Rey's Auditory-Verbal Learning Test). Of the main sequelae, fatigue improves naturally, whereas dyspnea requires rehabilitation. Our results demonstrated the benefits of exercise for COVID-19 sequelae.

Coronavirus 2 is responsible for Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome-Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), and the main sequela is persistent fatigue. Post-viral fatigue is common and affects patients with mild, asymptomatic coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19). However, the exact mechanisms involved in developing post-COVID-19 fatigue remain unclear. Furthermore, physical and cognitive impairments in these individuals have been widely described. Therefore, this review aims to summarize and propose tools from a multifaceted perspective to assess COVID-19 infection. Herein, we point out the instruments that can be used to assess fatigue in long-term COVID-19: fatigue in a subjective manner or fatigability in an objective manner. For physical and mental fatigue, structured questionnaires were used to assess perceived symptoms, and physical and cognitive performance assessment tests were used to measure fatigability using reduced performance.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to evaluate the effects of physical rehabilitation for adults with sequelae after COVID-19.MethodsThis clinical, nonrandomized, controlled, and open study will examine 82 participants who have met the inclusion criteria and who will be divided into treatment and control groups according to participant preference. The intervention group will receive face-to-face care; the control group will receive remote educational guidance for 8 weeks, with pre-post evaluations. The primary outcomes are dyspnea, fatigue, and exercise capacity; the secondary outcomes are lung function, heart rate variability, handgrip strength, knee extensor strength and electrical activity, physical activity, functional limitation, cognitive function, depression and anxiety, and biochemical measures of hypoxia, inflammation, oxidative stress, blood glucose, and lactate blood tests. The survey will follow theStandard Protocol Items for Randomized Trialsguidelines, and the results will be reported according to theConsolidated Standards of Reporting Trialsguidelines. Effects will be assessed based on the intent-to-treat data collected. Analysis of covariance will be used for the initial and final evaluations, with a significance level of 5%.Results and ConclusionsThe results will show the effectiveness of rehabilitation in adults with post-COVID-19 sequelae.ImpactFatigue, dyspnea, cough, and muscle and joint pain are common sequelae of post-COVID-19 syndrome. Physical rehabilitation is one modality for treating these sequelae. This protocol can provide a treatment model for patients with post-COVID-19 sequelae.

Urinary incontinence is defined as the involuntary loss of urine through the urethra, which may cause many social and hygienic problems and changes that compromise social life such as depression, shame, and isolation, with higher prevalence in women than in men. Objectives: To determine the prevalence of urinary incontinence in a sample of institutionalized elderly and analyze its relationship with sociodemographic characteristics, comorbidities, cognitive function, and functional independence. Methods: Cross-sectional, descriptive, and exploratory study. It included 27 seniors of both genders, living in a long-term care facility who met the inclusion criteria. Prevalence was determined by the percentage of elderly patients with urinary incontinence; sociodemographic characteristics and comorbidities were evaluated through a standard history record, reviewed with data from medical records; cognitive function was assessed using the Mini-Mental State Examination, and functional independence was assessed using the modified Barthel scale, while the comparison between groups was made through the Student t test and the associations, through the chi-square test. Results: Nine subjects (33.33%) had urinary incontinence. There was an association between gender and urinary incontinence, with higher prevalence for females (p = 0.029). Urinary incontinence was associated with low educational level (p = 0.014), time at the institution (p = 0.004), functional classification (p = 0.003), and cognitive impairment (p = 0.001). Conclusion: Urinary incontinence is common in elderly residents in long term care facilities, with a higher prevalence in women and was associated with low education, longer time at the institution, greater dependence in performing activities, and greater cognitive impairment

Systemic arterial hypertension (SAH) has a prevalence of approximately 1 billion cases worldwide. The main goals for its treatment involve changes in a patient's lifestyle, with a strategy of management that aims to increase his or her level of physical activity, with a recommendation for aerobic and resistance exercise. Some evidence has suggested that training with isometric exercises can produce effects similar to aerobic exercise on blood pressure reduction. Conventional exercises that are currently used in rehabilitation of hypertensive patients show low adherence, with a lack of motivation on the part of those patients. In that context, the Pilates method, which uses isometric exercises, has been gaining in popularity and worldwide acceptance, and it has the potential to be an effective method. The current literature review shows the possible benefits of the Pilates method for rehabilitation of hypertensive patients. However, even though the method is a promising modality, the authors have found that future research appears to be necessary to evaluate the benefits of Pilates for hypertensive patients.

Introduction: The infant juvenile obesity is currently one of the most serious public health problems of the 21st century, being directly related to physical inactivity as a decisive factor in the worldwide epidemic. The programs of conventional workouts have become not so attractive for this particular population. Because of that the access and permanence in those structured physical activity programs for obese adolescents are difficult. This systematic review has the general goal to verify what benefits the systematic practice of hip hop dance, can promote in obese children and adolescents. Methods: The search for relevant articles was conducted in the electronic databases Medline (Pubmed), Cochrane, LILACS, SciELO from January through June 2014, being structured as [(hip hop /) and (obesity /) and (children/ adolescent), controlled and randomized trials were included regarding the systematic practice of hip hop dance as exercise and its benefits for obese children and adolescents, subjects aged 2-19, considered obese and/or overweight. Results: A total of 21 articles were identified in the survey. Based on the found eligible articles for the full review, only one article met all the inclusion criteria. Conclusions: This preliminary study is intended to broaden the context in health for adolescents and children suffering from overweight and/or obesity, recommending an intervention through dance hip hop, it would be an important modality association for possible monitoring and reducing the risk of associated comorbidities. In this field of research, there is a lack of studies of high methodological quality, which may be able to demonstrate the benefits of this type of intervention.
