Breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women worldwide, breast self-examination (BSE) is recognized as an effective practice for its early detection. The present study aims to assess the effect of a BSE training program on women’s health practices to prevent breast cancer. A quasi-experimental design was employed to evaluate the effect of a BSE training program on the participants’ knowledge, attitude, and practice (KAP). We recruited 117 women aged 20–54 years from maternal and child health care centers in Jordan; 66 women received BSE training, while 51 did not. Pre-and post-tests were administrated to both groups, revealing significant differences in mean scores forknowledge (F (2, 116) = 122.84, p=.001), attitude (F (2, 116) = 5.21, p=.007), and practice (F (2, 116) = 58.30, p=.001) before and after the training program. The results suggest that BSE when performed appropriately can improve women’s knowledge, attitudes, and practices. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Headache is considered one of the most common complaints affecting all ages: children, adolescents, and adults. A school-based, cross-sectional study was conducted to assess primary headache among high school students aged 16-18 in Grades 11-12, over a period of 3 weeks (May 2017). A questionnaire was designed, in accordance with the International Headache Society's criteria. The Pearson's X[superscript 2] test was computed to show the differences between the variables. Nearly two thirds of the students reported having headache (19.0% tension-type headache, 8.8% migraine, and 39.0% unknown type). Nearly a quarter sought help for headache, and the most frequently used analgesic was acetaminophen (82.2%) followed by aspirin (5.1%). The current study revealed that the prevalence of headache and migraine was initially high and increased with age. Moreover, headache is one of the major public health problems among high school students. An education program conducted by school nurses and other health-care providers regarding headache and migraine is needed.

Purpose: Nursing research studies investigating the relationship between spiritual wellbeing and health-related quality of life are lacking among Arab hemodialysis patients in Jordan or any other Arab country. The purpose of this study was to explore the associations between spiritual wellbeing, its religious and existential wellbeing dimensions, and health-related quality of life among Jordanian Muslim hemodialysis patients. Design: A cross sectional, quantitative correlational study. Methods: A convenience sample of 150 Jordanian hemodialysis patients completed a structured, self-administered questionnaire. Descriptive, bivariate, and multivariate regression models were used. Findings: The Jordanian hemodialysis patients had a moderate level of spiritual wellbeing and religious wellbeing, a low level of existential wellbeing, and a poor health-related quality of life. The findings revealed a significant moderate positive correlation between the spiritual wellbeing and its dimensions, and health-related quality of life. The existential wellbeing was the strongest predictor, with a large, positive, and significant effect after controlling for other spiritual, demographic and medical-related variables. Conclusion: Overall, the study suggests Jordanian hemodialysis patients use their religious and spiritual beliefs and practices as a coping mechanism, especially as sources of satisfaction, peace, comfort, strength and support, to help improve their health-related quality of life. Self-medication, usually with over-the-counter (OTC) medication, is reported as a community health problem that affects many people worldwide. Most self-medication practice usually begins with the onset of adolescence. A school-based cross-sectional study was conducted in Mafraq Governorate, Jordan, using a simple random sampling method to select 6 public schools from a total of 34 schools. The total sample consisted of 422 school students from Grades 7 through 12. Measures of central tendency and ?[superscript 2] were used to compare the difference between the categorical variables. The prevalence of self-medication among the participants was 87.0%. Nearly 75% of self-medication was used for pain relief. The prevalence of self-medication among school students is very high and increases with age. School nurses and other local health-care workers must coordinate with school principals to disseminate health education campaigns about safe use of medication to provide awareness and education to school students, parents, and families.

INTRODUCTION: No studies have been conducted to assess knowledge about endotracheal suctioning among Jordanian nurses working in critical care units at Jordanian hospitals. PURPOSE: This study aimed to assess knowledge about endotracheal tube suction among Jordanian critical care nurses at Jordanian hospitals and to determine the predictors that could help their endotraheal tube suction knowledge. METHODS: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted. A convenience sample of 140 nurses working in critical care units at six Jordanian hospitals was recruited. Data were gathered using Endotracheal Suction Assessment Tool to assess the level of knowledge about endotraheal tube suction. Statistical significance was set at P<0.05. RESULT: The mean score of total endotracheal tube suction knowledge among critical care nurses was 10.7 (SD=2.70). Results showed that there was a statistically significant correlation between endotracheal suction knowledge and age (r=0.14, P<0.001), income (r=0.44, P<0.000), experience (r=0.43, P,0.001), gender (rpb=-0.21, P= 0.015), educational level (rpb=013, P=<0.001). Multiple regression revealed that the most significant predictors of endotracheal suction knowledge were higher monthly income, higher educational level and male gender. CONCLUSIONS: The results indicated a relatively adequate level of knowledge about endotracheal suction. This indicated the need to conduct more research studies to clarify the effect of education on knowledge of endotrachral suction tube. More continuous education is needed and more focus should be on female nurses, with low income and who has bachelor degree in nursing. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

COVID-19 is a newly discovered global pandemic that affected almost all countries, including Jordan. Knowledge, attitude and practices are fundamental to suppress the spread of the virus. This study aimed to examine knowledge, attitude and practices about COVID-19 in Jordan. A cross-sectional design was used to recruit a convenience sample of public from Jordan. An online instrument used to assess knowledge, attitude and practices about COVID-19, and was developed by the research team. The data were collected online through social media networks in Jordan. The data were collected during May 2020. 2470 participants participated and completed the study questionnaire. Results indicated good knowledge, practice, and attitude, about COVID-19 among the public in Jordan. Linear regression showed that female, aged 40 years or more, married, with Bachelor degree or higher, employed, and participants believe that Jordan will control COVID-19 had higher knowledge compared to their counterparts. Besides, linear regression showed that female, living in Amman city, with high knowledge about COVID-19, and believing that Jordan will control COVID-19 had higher practice compared to their counterparts. Knowledge, attitude and practices levels regarding COVID-19 among Jordanian population during the pandemic were high. However, health authorities and government have to implement and maintain educational programs to enhance the Jordanian population's awareness regarding COVID-19 and to prevent its spread specially among male, aged less than 40 years, unmarried, with less than Bachelor degree, unemployed, and for participants believe that Jordan will not control COVID-19. To date, predictive and risk factors for depression among older patients with cancer have not been adequately studied in the Middle Eastern countries including Jordan. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the levels of depressive symptoms, anxiety, and hope among older Jordanian patients with cancer aged 60 years and over who are currently undergoing treatment, and to identify the relationship between selected factors (socio-demographic, treatment, and psychological) and depressive symptoms. A cross-sectional design was conducted on a convenience sample consisting of 150 patients with cancer from one of the biggest governmental hospitals in Jordan. The findings revealed that almost 34% and 27% of the patients experienced anxiety and depression and had a moderate level of hope. Correlating factors with depression were age, duration of treatment, hope, anxiety, educational level, and health insurance. However, low duration of treatment, high anxiety, and low hope were the significant predictors of high depression. Understanding the risk factors correlated with depression could help develop early interventions to enhance the psychological consequences for patients with cancer at risk for depression. Health-care providers need to develop psychological care for older patients with cancer and interventions directed at minimizing depression. Also, nurses should focus on providing holistic care including physical, social, psychological, and spiritual dimensions.
