2. Autistic Disorder: A 20 Year Chronicle

Abstract

The course of 187 individuals ages 3-21 years with Autistic Disorder was traced through a period of 20 years (enrollment: 1995-1998, follow up: 2014-2019). Specific genetic and environmental causes were identified in only a minority. Intellectual disability coexisted in 84%. Few became independent with 99% living at home with relatives, in disability group homes or in residential facilities. Seven individuals (3.7%) attained postsecondary education, two receiving baccalaureate degrees, two receiving associate degrees, and three receiving certificates from college disability programs. It may be anticipated that the long term outcome for individuals currently diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) will be substantially better than for individuals with Autistic Disorder in this cohort.

Abstract

Ten projects which used mathematics as a major element to infuse career education into the regular school curriculum are presented in the reivew. The projects generally include programs for grades K-12. The report analyzes the ten projects from the standpoint of whether or not mathematics was involved as a subject area and, if so, to what extent. Such relevant data as the grade levels involved, the types of student population, the types of school districts, the cost of implementation, and the level of success are reported. 8. The World and the American Teacher: The Preparation of Teachers in the Field of World Affairs.

Abstract

This book represents a 2-year study of the problems and possibilities for extending the education of teachers to include education in international and cultural pluralism. It presents evidence and conclusions drawn from visits to a 50-institution cross section of colleges and universities where teachers are prepared and from conferences with educators, government officials, students, United Nations personnel, and members of private organizations and public agencies. The "Introduction" reviews the methodology of the study and places it in the context of current activity in the field. Chapter 1 is a background analysis of the dimensions of the problem of educating teachers in the American system and its cultural and social setting. The role of "Colleges for Teachers" is dicsussed in Chapter 2, particularly with reference to programs of such groups as the Peace Corps. Chapter 3 reviews programs of "International Experience Abroad and at Home" which are possible through existing organizations and international connections. Chapter 4, "The Certification Question," deals with the role of federal, state, and local agencies along with educational associations and private organizations in teacher education. "The Cultural Element in Foreign Policy," examines the relationship between the education of American teachers and the conduct of foreign policy. A final chapter summarizes 72 recommencations for improving the quality of education in a world dimension. (JS)

Abstract

This paper examines business opportunities through the internet. We present insights from a highly influential paper. Here are the highlights from this paper: The World Wide Web created a connection from computers to networks. The next evolution that followed connected people to the Internet and to other people. The Internet of Things (IoT) is emerging as the third wave in the development of the Internet. IoT interconnects devices, people, environments, virtual objects, and machines. IoT is expected to revolutionize and change the way all businesses, governments, and consumers interact with the physical world. In the exploding world of IoT, there is much to learn and an overwhelming amount of research to be done. The objective of this paper is to go beyond the hype and explore basic issues related to IoT technology, including its promises as well as its pitfalls. This study discusses potential strategic benefits of this technology as well as its risks and limitations. It highlights its evolving technologies and trends and their impact on the world of tomorrow. Also, it reviews IoT's potential economic impact and explores many factors that may contribute to its successful adoption and deployment. Abstract

The structure of activated and reactive bleomycin measured by electron nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) method shows hyperfine coupling due to structural anisotropy and quadrapolar coupling. Consideration of one strongly coupled oxygen gives good agrement between the results of ENDOR and electron paramagnetic resonance studies. The largest hyperfine coupling of exchangeable proton and well-resolved line along the g(sub z) axis suggest that this direction is responsible for the ligation of amine and oxygen ligands which can form hydrogen bonds.
