Abstract

To get the most power out of photovoltaic (PV) panels, PV systems must utilize a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller. In partial shading conditions (PSC), the power-voltage (P-V) characteristic of the PV network may show a single global maximum power point (GMPP) and two or more local maximum power points (LMPP). This indicates that the PV cells and panels do not get uniform illumination. As they converge on the maximum power point (MPP) that makes contact first, which is often one of the LMPPs in this scenario, common MPPT approaches like incremental conductance (InC) and perturb and observe (P&O) are unable to distinguish between a GMPP and LMPPs. In this paper, the extraction of the GMPP of the PV system under PSC based on a suggested particle swarm optimization (PSO) approaches is presented. The particularity of the suggested approach is that it takes into account the calculation of the position of each particle as a function of the duty cycle and the global maximum power. Results on the performance of the suggested PSO method show an advantage over the conventional PSO and the commonly used traditional P&O method. The suggested PSO technique offer better performance in terms of global power extracted, ripple rate of the power and efficiency. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The equations, modelling a nonlinear resistive-capacitive-inductance shunted Josephson junction (NRCLJJ) subjected to various signal shapes of the electrical current, are simulated experimentally using the Arduino Uno-type microcontroller that takes benefit of its simplicity, lost cost, high precision, ease of implementation, and stability compared to the voltage-controlled oscillators (VCO) circuitry. Real time electrical signals are observed presenting various dynamics. Shapiro steps (SS) from the IV-characteristics are also obtained. These real electrical signals are then used to power an electromechanical pendulum in the second part of this work. Bifurcation diagram shows that the pendulum exhibits periodic and chaotic dynamics. Abstract

International audience; Better functioning of maximum power point tracking (MPPT) can significantly increase the energy efficiency of photovoltaic systems. This process is provided by MPPT algorithms. Such as fractional open-circuit voltage, perturb and observe, fractional short-circuit current, hill climbing, incremental conductance, fuzzy logic controller, neural network controller, just to name a few. The hill climbing algorithm uses the duty cycle of the boot converter as a retraction parameter when the MPPT task is performed. However, this technique has disadvantages in terms of the stability of the system during periods of constant radiation. To overcome this disadvantage, A MPPT technique based on the estimation of the boost converter duty cycle associated with the conventional hill climbing, fractional open-circuit voltage and fractional short-circuit current algorithm is proposed. A comprehensive description of the experimental implementation hardware and software platforms is presented. On the basis of the measured data, the enhanced algorithm was compared to the conventional hill climbing MPPT technique according to various criteria, showing the disadvantages and advantages of each. Experimental results show advantage of the enhanced algorithm compared to the conventional hill climbing MPPT technique in time response attenuation (0.25 s versus 0.6 s), little oscillations (0.5 W versus 2.5 W), power loss reductions and better maximum power point tracking accuracy (98.45 W versus 92.75 W) of the enhanced algorithm compared to the conventional hill climbing MPPT technique.
