Abstract

ObjectivesHIV outcomes centre primarily around clinical markers with limited focus on patient-reported outcomes. With a global trend towards capturing the outcomes that matter most to patients, there is agreement that standardizing the definition of value in HIV care is key to their incorporation. This study aims to address the lack of routine, standardized data in HIV care.MethodsAn international working group (WG) of 37 experts and patients, and a steering group (SG) of 18 experts were convened from 14 countries. The project team (PT) identified outcomes by conducting a literature review, screening 1979 articles and reviewing the full texts of 547 of these articles. Semi-structured interviews and advisory groups were performed with the WG, SG and people living with HIV to add to the list of potentially relevant outcomes. The WG voted via a modified Delphi process - informed by six Zoom calls - to establish a core set of outcomes for use in clinical practice.ResultsFrom 156 identified outcomes, consensus was reached to include three patient-reported outcomes, four clinician-reported measures and one administratively reported outcome; standardized measures were included. The WG also reached agreement to measure 22 risk-adjustment variables. This outcome set can be applied to any person living with HIV aged > 18 years.ConclusionsAdoption of the HIV360 outcome set will enable healthcare providers to record, compare and integrate standardized metrics across treatment sites to drive quality improvement in HIV care.

7. Sparse Deconvolution Methods for Online Energy Estimation in Calorimeters Operating in High Luminosity Conditions

Abstract

Energy reconstruction in calorimeters operating in high luminosity particle colliders has become a remarkable challenge. In this scenario, pulses from a calorimeter front-end output overlap each other (pile-up effect), compromising the energy estimation procedure when no preprocessing for signal disentanglement is accomplished. Recently, methods based on signal deconvolution have been proposed for both online and offline reconstructions. For online processing, constraints concerning fast processing, memory requirements, and cost implementation limit the overall performance. Offline reconstruction allows the use of Sparse Representation theory to implement sophisticated Iterative Deconvolution methods. This paper presents Iterative Deconvolution methods based on Sparse Representation algorithms whose computational cost is effective for online implementation. Using simulated data, current techniques were compared to the proposed Sparse Representation ones for performance validation in the online environments. Analysis has shown that, despite the higher computational cost, when compared to standard methods, the performance improvement may justify the use of the proposed techniques, in particular for the Separable Surrogate Functional, which is shown to be feasible for implementation in modern FPGAs.

Abstract

Habitat loss and fragmentation are global threats to biodiversity, however, their impact on ecological function are not well understood. The Atlantic Forest hosts high levels of biodiversity and has experienced a long history of deforestation and fragmentation. To examine the consequences of fragmentation for functional and phylogenetic diversity, and for key ecological interactions, I studied bat metacommunity across this landscape. I conducted repeated surveys of bats in forest fragments and continuous forest sites at the Reserva Ecológica de Guapiaçú. To characterize metacommunity structure and the drivers of species assembly, I combined an "elements of metacommunity structure" analysis with assessments of phylogenetic and functional diversity. I then applied a community occupancy model to evaluate the speciesspecific responses to habitat fragmentation and test whether landscape configuration or habitat structure predicted species occurrence. Finally, by using DNA barcoding to identify plant species recovered in the guano of bats, I reconstructed mutualistic batplant networks and determined how network architecture changed with fragmentation. My results revealed that while the bat metacommunity had a random structure, the meta-ensembles of phyllostomid and animalivorous bats showed nested and quasinested metacommunity structures, respectively. Species assembly was driven by stochastic processes in fragments, and by environmental filters in the continuous forest. Species occurrence showed a positive relationship with area, but the community occupancy models were not precise enough to differentiate responses to isolation and habitat structure. The structure of bat-plant networks was maintained in small fragments due to the persistence of generalists that perform seed dispersal. Although fragmentation of the Atlantic Forest has severe impacts on bat communities, this biome harbours a rich bat fauna at the metacommunity level. Small fragments may not support diverse bat faunas, but those surviving species still act as agents of seed dispersal and can contribute to forest regeneration and restoration.

Abstract

Global production network (GPN) scholars increasingly focus on examining exclusionary processes in strategic coupling. However, attention has been given to structural coupling, where uneven outcomes often evolve through lead firms exploiting power asymmetries to foster their interests over regions. Functional and indigenous coupling, although acknowledged to have exclusions, are considered to be less likely for such outcomes due to assumed symmetrical power. This assumption has led to a lack of studies exploring not only how uneven outcomes evolve in indigenous coupling but also what territorial mechanisms are involved. This article addresses this gap by conceptualizing the notion of a statist transnational community (STC) as a crucial mechanism in indigenous coupling, and with potential to explain how asymmetrical relations can emerge and foster exclusionary processes. Based on qualitative methods, this article analyzes Brazil's integration into the aerospace GPN through indigenous coupling. First, it examines how the Brazilian developmental state, under a national developmental ideology, fostered coupling in São José dos Campos (SJC) by establishing institutions, regional assets, Embraer, and an aerospace industrial cluster. Second, it elucidates how the Brazilian state facilitated the formation of an STC crucial in establishing firms and creating and harnessing regional assets. Additionally, it reveals how and why the SJC STC is marked by relative symmetrical and cooperative relations, and encourages collaboration. Lastly, this article investigates a training partnership between Embraer and the Aeronautics Institute of Technology in SJC, disclosing how asymmetrical power relations can also be present in indigenous coupling, fostering social downgrading, especially in relation to labor. Abstract

Mainstream literature on global value chains (GVCs) and global production networks (GPNs) has increasingly demonstrated how the state and political conjunctures play a central role in strategic coupling. Nonetheless, scholarly attention still remains on the role of firms and their strategies. By focusing on firms, GVC and GPN scholars often underestimate the influence that non‐firm actors such as the state have on strategic coupling, especially concerning its negative development implicationsits "dark side". To contribute to this literature, this article proposes an approach and research agenda to examine how processes of corporate capture evolve via strategic coupling. This approach is based on the interplay of three variables: the strategic selectivity of states; the strategic action of firms; and states' predominant mode of insertion into GPNs. I argue that corporate capture is much more common and variegated in capitalist states and consequently in strategic coupling than often assumed in mainstream literature. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This document (D2.1 “Use case scenarios definition and design”) was developed within the framework of WP2 “Specifications and Co-Creation for AI-Based Policy Management”. WP2 is devoted to producing key specifications for the project’s AI-based policy making paradigm, while including the user studies and the co-creation activities. This deliverable contains a definition of the pilots, a characterization of Use Cases and a list of User Stories. The user stories described in this document will be used by the technical Work Packages in order to drive the technical work they will develop, therefore, the user stories described here will be the basis of this work. To identify and characterize the User Stories from all AI4PublicPolicy stakeholders, we followed a methodology based on the Business Model Canvas to collect information about the pilots, use cases and user stories. The User Stories described in this document will be used in other AI4PP activities, such as co-creation workshops that use them as a baseline for their discussions and thereby update and improve user stories. Another example of the use of User Stories is that Technical WPs use user stories to identify scenarios of use of the technology being developed in the context of the project.

Abstract

The purpose of the study. Running speed represents a global marker of individual performance and provides a simple method of objective measurement of motor performance for use in clinical and research environments. Speed is most often at relatively short distances at normal or fast pace, using methods of obtaining manual time (e.g., stopwatch) or automated (e.g., photocells). Materials and methods. The sample consisted of 25 students, 12 males and 13 females, all 13 years old and walked a course 20 meters away, we used to obtain the time elapsed the time, and the method by photocells. The agreement was examined using Bland and Altman graphs and linear regression. Results. There are significant and strong differences between the evaluation methods (T =14,205; p<0,001) and there is a significant and strong correlation between the variables (r = 0.902; p<0.001). Conclusions. This study suggests that for measurement in research context or in sports aimed at high yield it is advisable to use photocell, and the use of the timing method for recreational use.

37. O uso da biomassa foliar de eucalipto como biocida: efeitos nas propriedades do solo

Abstract

The Portuguese forest area is mainly dominated by Eucalyptus globulus and, as this is an invasive and very flammable species, it is important to control its proliferation. In this sense, the PEST(bio)CIDE project, based on a circular economy perspective, aims to explore the phytotoxic potential of eucalyptus leaves and use its foliar biomass as an effective and environmentally safe biocide. In this way, it is possible to associate an economic benefit with a better management of the eucalyptus areas regenerated after fire. It is also expected that the introduction of biomass into the soil will improve its quality and its effectiveness in increasing the carbon stock and soil fertility. In this sense, the present work focuses on the evaluation of the effects that the introduction of eucalyptus biomass has on the physicochemical and biological properties of the soil. For this, an experiment was carried out in microcosms, under controlled conditions, in which the effect of the addition of different percentages of eucalyptus leaves on some physicochemical soil properties and on the dehydrogenase enzymatic activity over time was evaluated., A área florestal portuguesa é dominada principalmente por Eucalyptus globulus e, sendo esta uma espécie invasora e muito inflamável, é importante controlar a sua proliferação. Abstract

A inspeção termográfica a painéis fotovoltaicos com recurso a drones é uma alternativa tecnológica em atual desenvolvimento que proporciona uma solução eficaz e económica para a avaliação do desempenho de sistemas solares e sua manutenção. Equipados com câmaras termográficas de alta resolução, os drones podem sobrevoar os painéis solares e capturar imagens térmicas detalhadas de forma rápida e precisa. Este artigo visa apresentar o estado de desenvolvimento da realização de inspeções termográficas a centrais fotovoltaicas, fazendo uso de drones. Os objetivos deste estudo são expor as vantagens e desvantagens referentes à utilização de drones na monitorização de painéis fotovoltaicos e explicar como se atribui níveis de severidade aos defeitos capturados nas imagens termográficas realizadas, para tomar as medidas adequadas à resolução das anomalias.

Abstract

This document was developed within the framework of WP7 “Market Platform of AI-based Policy Management Applications and Tools” and describes the work performed in the context of Task 7.1 “Specification, Detailed Design and Implementation of Market Platform” and Task 7.2 “Integration of Validated AI-based Applications and Tools”. The main objectives of these tasks are respectively to design and implement an online market platform as a hosting environment for the project’s results and tointegrate AI4PublicPolicy solutions for efficient AI-based policy making in the market platform It presents the design of the AI4PublicPolicy Platform, the technologies identified for its implementation, including the plugins for the interaction of the different technologies, and a complete overview of the platform architecture. A first implementation of the market platform is available at https://market.ai4publicpolicy.eu/ and in this document the main functionalities are shown. Moreover, it provides a detailed definition of assets catalogue, and of the provider and asset profile form that is the defined data model to integrate the information into the market platform. Finally, some recommendations are given on the identification and analysis of the exploitable assets and on the regulation that should be taken into account.
