A comparative study of the radio-television or broadcast curricula of colleges and universities in the United States, Britain and Korea was carried out to understand the structure of the curricula and the similarities and differences between the same. The study traces the history and status of broadcast education in the three nations and provides recommendations on the core courses that should be a part of all broadcast majors in these countries.

An interview with Price Hicks, the Director of Educational Programs and Services for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, is presented. Activities of the Educational Affairs Committee, including the implementation of student internships, faculty seminars, and visiting artist programs, are discussed.

A case study of Malaysian academic film and television production program was conducted by a filmmaker and public television producer at the Science University of Malaysia. Results reveal that creating a successful program requires the establishment of structured designated priorities. These include long-term commitments to infrastructure developments, faculty training and education, and the achievement of an institutional self-sufficient curriculum.

The 1993 National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) Television News Video Workshop was organized to educate the participants on the techniques used in photojournalism. The workshop also facilitated the interaction between news reporters and photographers. The workshop provided suggestions to improve the technical skills of the participants to transform them into professionals in the field of photojournalism. Although many of the participants encountered problems in the identification of the theme of the story and also in the quality of their pictures, the guidance provided by the workshop faculty combined with the participants' diligence and perseverance to enable them to appreciate the advantages of such conventions.

New technologies, particularly cable and satellite, have led to a shift in the values of broadcasting and created a need for new ideas as well as new skills. The ending of the cosy BBC/ITV duopoly altered the nature of employment in the broadcasting industry and the arrival of digital television will bring further changes. Salford University has tried to anticipate the future needs of the broadcasting industry and established a faculty of media, music and performance offering a wide range of courses. An International Media Centre alongside the faculty has attracted equipment manufacturers.
