2. DanHAR: Dual Attention Network For Multimodal Human Activity Recognition Using Wearable Sensors

Abstract

Human activity recognition (HAR) in ubiquitous computing has been beginning to incorporate attention into the context of deep neural networks (DNNs), in which the rich sensing data from multimodal sensors such as accelerometer and gyroscope is used to infer human activities. Recently, two attention methods are proposed via combining with Gated Recurrent Units (GRU) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) network, which can capture the dependencies of sensing signals in both spatial and temporal domains simultaneously. However, recurrent networks often have a weak feature representing power compared with convolutional neural networks (CNNs). On the other hand, two attention, i.e., hard attention and soft attention, are applied in temporal domains via combining with CNN, which pay more attention to the target activity from a long sequence. However, they can only tell where to focus and miss channel information, which plays an important role in deciding what to focus. As a result, they fail to address the spatial-temporal dependencies of multimodal sensing signals, compared with attention-based GRU or LSTM. In the paper, we propose a novel dual attention method called DanHAR, which introduces the framework of blending channel attention and temporal attention on a CNN, demonstrating superiority in improving the comprehensibility for multimodal HAR. Extensive experiments on four public HAR datasets and weakly labeled dataset show that DanHAR achieves state-of-the-art performance with negligible overhead of parameters. Furthermore, visualizing analysis is provided to show that our attention can amplifies more important sensor modalities and timesteps during classification, which agrees well with human common intuition.

3. Layer-wise training convolutional neural networks with smaller filters for human activity recognition using wearable sensors

Abstract

Recently, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) have set latest state-of-the-art on various human activity recognition (HAR) datasets. However, deep CNNs often require more computing resources, which limits their applications in embedded HAR. Although many successful methods have been proposed to reduce memory and FLOPs of CNNs, they often involve special network architectures designed for visual tasks, which are not suitable for deep HAR tasks with time series sensor signals, due to remarkable discrepancy. Therefore, it is necessary to develop lightweight deep models to perform HAR. As filter is the basic unit in constructing CNNs, it deserves further research whether re-designing smaller filters is applicable for deep HAR. In the paper, inspired by the idea, we proposed a lightweight CNN using Lego filters for HAR. A set of lower-dimensional filters is used as Lego bricks to be stacked for conventional filters, which does not rely on any special network structure. The local loss function is used to train model. To our knowledge, this is the first paper that proposes lightweight CNN for HAR in ubiquitous and wearable computing arena. The experiment results on five public HAR datasets, UCI-HAR dataset, OPPORTUNITY dataset, UNIMIB-SHAR dataset, PAMAP2 dataset, and WISDM dataset collected from either smartphones or multiple sensor nodes, indicate that our novel Lego CNN with local loss can greatly reduce memory and computation cost over CNN, while achieving higher accuracy. 4. Clusterin Is a Prognostic Biomarker of Lower-Grade Gliomas and Is Associated with Immune Cell Infiltration

Abstract

Dysregulation of clusterin (CLU) has been demonstrated in many cancers and has been proposed as a regulator of carcinogenesis. However, the roles of CLU in gliomas remain unclear. The expression of CLU was assessed using TIMER2.0, GEPIA2, and R package 4.2.1 software, leveraging data from TCGA and/or GTEx databases. Survival analysis and Cox regression were employed to investigate the prognostic significance of CLU. Immune infiltration was evaluated utilizing TIMER2.0, ESTIMATE, and CIBERSORT. The findings reveal the dysregulated expression of CLU in many cancers, with a marked increase observed in glioblastoma and lower-grade glioma (LGG). High CLU expression indicated worse survival outcomes and was an independent risk factor for the prognosis in LGG patients. CLU was involved in immune status as evidenced by its strong correlations with immune and stromal scores and the infiltration levels of multiple immune cells. Additionally, CLU was co-expressed with multiple immune-related genes, and high CLU expression was associated with the activation of immune-related pathways, such as binding to the antigen/immunoglobulin receptor and aiding the cytokine and cytokine receptor interaction. In conclusion, CLU appears to play crucial roles in tumor immunity within gliomas, highlighting its potential as a biomarker or target in glioma immunotherapy.

5. Multicenter analysis of gastrointestinal stromal tumors in inner Mongolia of China: A study of 804 cases

Abstract

Summary: Introduction: To analyze the clinicopathological characteristics, immunohistochemistry, genotyping and prognosis of patients in the multicenter GIST data in Inner Mongolia, China. Methods: Retrospective analysis was performed on GIST data from January 2013 to January 2018 in Inner Mongolia. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the clinical characteristics of GIST patients. The Chi-square test was performed on the modified NIH criteria by age distribution, and Kaplan-Merie method was used for survival analysis. Results: A total of 804 patients were included in the GIST database in Inner Mongolia, with a male to female ratio of 1.1102:1. The most common location was the gastric (465). Mitotic count ≤5/50HPFs was found in 67.3 % patients. There were 276 patients with tumor diameter of 2–5 cm and 354 patients with tumor diameter of 5.1–10 cm.The modified NIH criteria was mainly of intermediate risk (210) and high risk (342). The recurrence and metastasis of patients were related to the tumor location, mitotic index, tumor size, and modified NIH criteria. All patients were followed up for 1–10 years, in which 63.1 % of them were followed up for at least three years. The 3-year survival rates of patients with modified NIH criteria of very low risk, low risk, intermediate risk, and high risk were 100 %, 100 %, 100 %, and 96.3 %, respectively. Conclusions: The incidence of GIST in middle-aged and elder people in Inner Mongolia is high, and the long-term prognosis of patients after surgical treatment is good, which can objectively reflect the incidence, diagnosis and treatment of GIST in Inner Mongolia.

Abstract

We analyzed epidemiologic characteristics and distribution of 1,067 human plague cases and 5,958 Yersinia pestis isolates collected from humans, host animals, and insect vectors during 1950–2019 in 4 Marmota plague foci in China. The case-fatality rate for plague in humans was 68.88%; the overall trend slowly decreased over time but fluctuated greatly. Most human cases (98.31%) and isolates (82.06%) identified from any source were from the Marmota himalayana plague focus. The tendency among human cases could be divided into 3 stages: 1950–1969, 1970–2003, and 2004–2019. The Marmota sibirica plague focus has not had identified human cases nor isolates since 1926. However, in the other 3 foci, Y. pestis continues to circulate among animal hosts; ecologic factors might affect local Y. pestis activity. Marmota plague foci are active in China, and the epidemic boundary is constantly expanding, posing a potential threat to domestic and global public health.

Abstract

Due to the high hardness, the high brittleness and other characteristics, the hard and brittle materials represented by glass were prone to damage such as pits, brittle breakage and surface/subsurface cracks during processing, which seriously affected the performance and surface integrity. The effect of velocity variation on the crack formation and propagation and surface integrity of sodium-calcium glass during single abrasive grinding was studied. The results show that the single grain variable cutting depth scratching experiment can realize three stages of scratching, ploughing and cutting in the grinding process, and with the increase of scratching speed, the critical depth of brittle-plastic transformation of sodium-calcium glass increases, and the scratch morphology and scratch edge smoothness increase. Abstract

Objective To explore the discovery and treatment of multiple root canals in the maxillary second pre⁃ molar to provide a reference for root canal therapy. Methods A case of maxillary second premolar occlusal discomfort accompanied by cold and heat stimulation pain and spontaneous pain was analyzed retrospectively. Results In this case, the number of roots and root canals in the tooth was determined by CBCT to be three roots with four canals. Root canal therapy was performed with Ni⁃Ti endodontic files and thermoplastic gutta⁃percha via root optical microscopy. The clinical symptoms disappeared after the operation. Conclusion The maxillary second premolar root canal system is complex, and additional root canals can be found and located with CBCT and optical microscopy. High⁃quality root ca⁃ nal therapy was completed.

21. Data from miRNA-145 Targets v-ets Erythroblastosis Virus E26 Oncogene Homolog 1 to Suppress the Invasion, Metastasis, and Angiogenesis of Gastric Cancer Cells

Abstract

Recent evidence shows that v-ets erythroblastosis virus E26 oncogene homolog 1 (Ets1) is implicated in tumor development and progression. However, the clinical potentials and underlying mechanisms of Ets1 in gastric cancer progression and metastasis remain largely unknown. In this study, Ets1 immunostaining was identified in 56 of 84 (66.7%) gastric cancer tissues, which was correlated with tumor invasion and metastasis. In gastric cancer specimens and cell lines, miRNA-145 (miR-145) was downregulated and inversely correlated with Ets1 expression. Bioinformatics analysis and luciferase reporter assay revealed that miR-145 directly targeted the 3′-untranslated region (3′-UTR) of Ets1 mRNA. Overexpression or knockdown of miR-145 responsively altered both the mRNA and protein levels of Ets1 and its downstream genes, matrix metalloproteinase (MMP-1)-1 and -9, in gastric cancer cell lines SGC-7901 and MKN-45. Ectopic expression of miR-145 suppressed the invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis of SGC-7901 and MKN-45 cells in vitro and in vivo. In addition, the effects of miR-145 on Ets1 expression, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis were rescued by restoration of Ets1 expression in these cells. Furthermore, anti-miR-145 inhibitor promoted the migration, invasion, and angiogenesis, whereas siRNA-mediated Ets1 knockdown phenocopied the effects of miR-145 overexpression in gastric cancer cells. These results show that miR-145 suppresses Ets1 expression via the binding site in the 3′-UTR, thus inhibiting the invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis of gastric cancer cells. 26. Data from microRNA-9 Targets Matrix Metalloproteinase 14 to Inhibit Invasion, Metastasis, and Angiogenesis of Neuroblastoma Cells

Abstract

Matrix metalloproteinase (MMP)-14 is the only membrane-anchored MMP that plays a critical role in tumor metastasis and angiogenesis. However, the mechanisms underlying MMP-14 expression in tumors still remain largely unknown. In this study, MMP-14 immunostaining was identified in 29/42 neuroblastoma tissues, which was correlated with clinicopathologic features and shorter patients' survival. In subtotal 20 neuroblastoma cases, microRNA 9 (miR-9) was downregulated and inversely correlated with MMP-14 expression. Bioinformatics analysis revealed a putative miR-9–binding site in the 3′-untranslated region (3′-UTR) of MMP-14 mRNA. Overexpression or knockdown of miR-9 responsively altered both the mRNA and protein levels of MMP-14 and its downstream gene, vascular endothelial growth factor, in cultured neuroblastoma cell lines SH-SY5Y and SK-N-SH. In an MMP-14 3′-UTR luciferase reporter system, miR-9 downregulated the luciferase activity, and these effects were abolished by a mutation in the putative miR-9–binding site. Overexpression of miR-9 suppressed the invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis of SH-SY5Y and SK-N-SH cells in vitro and in vivo. In addition, the effects of miR-9 on MMP-14 expression, adhesion, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis were rescued by overexpression of MMP-14 in these cells. Furthermore, anti-miR-9 inhibitor or knockdown of MMP-14 respectively increased or inhibited the migration, invasion, and angiogenesis of neuroblastoma cells. These data indicate that miR-9 suppresses MMP-14 expression via the binding site in the 3′-UTR, thus inhibiting the invasion, metastasis, and angiogenesis of neuroblastoma. Abstract

To explore the clinical efficacy of focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy with centrifugal exercise in the treatment of greater trochanteric pain syndrome.From September 2017 to June 2019, 53 eligible cases of greater trochanteric pain syndrome were randomly divided into observation group (29 cases) and control group (24 cases). In observation group, there were 8 males and 21 females, aged from 38 to 62 years old with an average of (49.96±6.39) years old; the course of disease ranged from 6 to 13 months with an average of (8.58±1.99) months;treated with focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy with centrifugal exercise. In control group, there were 5 males and 19 females, aged from 39 to 62 years old with an average of (52.79±5.86) years old;the course of disease ranged from 6 to 14 months with an average of (9.04±2.51) months;treated with centrifugal exercise alone. Visual analogue scale (VAS) and hip Harris score were measured before ESWT treatment and at 1, 2, and 6 months to evaluate relieve degree of pain and functional recovery of hip joint, respectively.At 1 month after treatment, there were no significant differences in VAS, hip Harris score and treatment success rate (allIn treatment of greater trochanteric pain syndrome, focused extracorporeal shock wave therapy with centrifugal exercise could significantly relieve symptoms of lateral hip pain, improve functional recovery of hip joint with good safety. This treatment strategy is worthy of application and promotion in clinical practice.

44. Super dimension reconstruction algorithm based on porosity classification.

Abstract

Since a lot of pattern matching in the process of dictionary set establishment and three-dimensional(3D) reconstruction, the super dimension algorithm takes a long time and is difficult in practical application. To solve this problem, a super-dimensional reconstruction algorithm based on porosity classification is proposed, which can greatly reduce the time cost of 3D reconstruction. First, the dictionary sets are classified by the porosity of dictionary elements. Then, the porosity classification dictionary is used to search according to porosity during reconstruction, and the corresponding dictionary interval is searched first. Based on the 3D reconstruction of different training images and porosity distribution, an adaptive search range determination method is proposed. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed super dimension algorithm is verified by multiple reconstruction of the training images of high, medium and low porosity, a comparative analysis is made on the reconstruction results of the traditional Super dimension algorithm and the proposed algorithm in terms of the statistical characteristic function, pore-throat parameters and reconstruction time.
