International audience; Using the culturomics approach, the previously unknown strain Marseille-P8953T, was isolated and classified within the Weizmannia genus. Strain Marseille-P8953T was isolated from the faeces of a healthy subject and consisted of Gram-stain positive, spore-forming, motile rod-shaped cells. A 99.2% similarity was observed between the 16S rRNA gene of strain Marseille-P8953T (accession number LR735539) and that of Weizmannia coagulans strain NBRC 12583T (accession number KX261624), its closest phylogenetic relative, while the genome of strain Marseille-P8953T (3.5 Mpb long, 46.5% GC content) shared the average nucleotide identity by Orthology and digital DNA-DNA Hybridisation values of 95 and 60.4%, respectively. Given the phylogenetic classification and phenotypic characteristics of strain Marseille-P8953T, we propose the creation of a new species within the Weizmannia genus named Weizmannia faecalis (= CSUR P8953T = CECT 9904 T).

This research was carried out on Tea (Camellia sinensisO. Kuntze.) seeds (containing 22.01% oil) harvested from Trung du tea trees varieties, cultivated in Phu Tho, Vietnam to select the most suitable processing methods which enhance the high antioxidant activity of the oil in the seed oil extraction. The objective of this research is to study the effects of particle size, material/solvent ratio, temperature, time, speed of solvent movement, and extraction cycle on antioxidant properties of the oil (by analysing IC50, total polyphenol content, total carotenoid, and total tocopherol value). The suitable extraction conditions were determined as follows: particle size was 0.25-0.5 mm, the solid-solvent ratio was 1/8-1/10, the extraction temperature was 35-45oC, the extraction time was 7-9h, speed of solvent movement was 200-250 r/m and the extraction cycle was two times. The tea seed oil extracted under the suitable conditions had the DPPH radical scavenging activity (IC50), total polyphenol content, total carotene, and total tocopherol of 62.19 mg/ml, 4.45 mgGAE/g dry weight, 89 mg/kg, and 710 mg/kg, respectively. The high content of antioxidants makes tea seed oil has a good antioxidant capacity, high oxidation stability, and relatively long shelf life. Therefore, research on using wasted tea seed sources to extract oil has great potential for the vegetable oil industry and a high potential of application in food technology.

Appraisal Theory, which has been developed by linguists Martin & White since the 1990s, is the development of functional grammar in terms of interpersonal meaning. Based on the Appraisal Theory, this article aims to investigate the three sub-categories namely “Affect”, “Judgement” and “Appreciation” in English Speeches by Nobel Peace Prize Laureates (ESNPLs) with focus placed on identifying and describing syntactic realizations and semantic features of the three above-mentioned sub-categories in 25 ESNPLs collected from the official website of the Nobel Prize in the period 2000-2019. With regard to the syntactic aspect, the sub-categories can be realized by means of various groups in which Nominal Groups, Verbal Groups and Adjectival Groups are more noticeable. In terms of the semantic aspect, the research results show that both positive and negative values were demonstrated in the above speeches; however, positive values proved to be dominant.

International audience; Two bacterial strains were isolated and identified using microbial culturomics and characterised according to the taxono-genomics strategy. The strictly anaerobic strain, Marseille-P3773(T), forms smooth and translucent colonies consisting of Gram-stain negative, non-motile and non-spore-forming rod-shaped cells. Strain Marseille-P3787(T) consists of Gram-stain positive, motile and spore-forming cells resulting in grey and translucent colonies. The phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene of strains Marseille-P3773(T) and Marseille-P3787(T) revealed a 96.9% similarity level with Lachnotalea glycerini strain DLD10 and 97% identity with Paenibacillus uliginis strain N3/975, respectively. The genome of strain Marseille-P3773 is 4,260,534 bp long with a 40.3 mol% G + C content and includes 3879 predicted genes of which 3769 are protein-coding genes, 76 RNAs and 34 are pseudo-genes. Strain Marseille-P3787 had a genome size of 4,833,032 bp with a 47.9 mol% G + C and has 4481 predicted genes of which 4265 are protein-coding genes, 101 RNAs and 115 are pseudo-genes. According to the data collected on these strains and, more specifically to the genomic comparison, we suggest the creation of a new genus and species, Konateibacter massiliensis gen. nov., sp. nov. with strain Marseille-P3773(T) (=CSURP3773 and CCUG71331) as its type strain within the Lachnospiraceae family, as well as a new species, Paenibacillus faecalis sp. nov. with strain Marseille-P3787(T) (=CSURP3787 and CCUG71650) as its type strain within the Paenibacillus genus.

Socio-economic development of rural areas in the Red River Delta is unsustainable, the efficiency of resource use is still low, reflecting: environmental pollution, labor productivity and competitiveness of many products are not yet comparable. is commensurate with the existing potentials and advantages and is still far behind in some rural countries in the region. Therefore, researching as well as giving suitable solutions to promote rural development of the Red River Delta is very necessary in the present conditions. In the framework of this article, the author only mentions some main aspects of the current state of rural production development in the Red River Delta and a number of raised issues, on that basis providing a number of solutions. to contribute to promoting rural production in the Red River Delta in the coming time.

We describe a new multidrug resistant Chitinophaga species that was isolated from patients with type 2 diabetes in Vietnam. Strain BD 01T was cultivated in 2017 from a blood sample of a patient suffering from bacteremia. Strain VP 7442 was isolated in 2018 from a pleural fluid sample of a patient who had presented with lung abscess and pleural effusion. Both strains are aerobic, Gram-negative, non-motile and non-spore-forming. The 16S rRNA gene sequences of both strains are 100 % similar and share a highest 16S sequence identity with Chitinophaga polysaccharea MRP-15T of 97.42 %. Their predominant fatty acid is iso-C15 : 0 (73.8 % for strain BD 01T and 79.8 % for strain VP 7442). The draft genome sizes of strains BD 01T and VP 7442 are 6 308 408 and 6 308 579 bp, respectively. They are resistant to beta-lactams, aminoglycosides, fluoroquinolones, metronidazole, fosfomycin, vancomycin and macrolides, and exhibit 20 and 18 antimicrobial resistance-related genes, respectively. Using the multiphasic taxonogenomic approach, we propose that strains BD 01T (=CSUR P9622=VTCC 70981) and VP 7442 (=CSUR P9623=VTCC 70982) represent a new species, for which we propose the name Chitinophaga vietnamensis sp. nov. Strain BD 01T was chosen as type strain of C. vietnamensis sp. nov.

Kwashiorkor and marasmus are two clinical syndromes observed in severe acute malnutrition. In this review, we highlighted the differences between these two syndromes by reviewing the data comparing kwashiorkor and marasmus in literature, combined with recent microbiological findings and meta-analysis. Depletion of antioxidants, vitamins and minerals were more severe in kwashiorkor than marasmus. This was consistent with the severe and uncontrolled oxidative stress associated with the depletion of gut anaerobes and the relative proliferation of aerotolerant gut pathogens. This relative proliferation and invasion of gut microbes belonging to the aerotolerant Proteobacteria phylum and pathogens suggested a specific microbial process critical in the pathogenesis of kwashiorkor. Liver mitochondrial and peroxisomal dysfunction could be secondary to toxic microbial compounds produced in the gut such as ethanol, lipopolysaccharides and endotoxins produced by Proteobacteria, particularly Klebsiella pneumoniae, and aflatoxin produced by Aspergillus species. The gut-liver axis alteration is characterized by oedema and a fatty and enlarged liver and was associated with a dramatic depletion of methionine and glutathione, an excessive level of free circulating iron and frequent lethal bacteraemia by enteric pathogens. This was consistent with the fact that antibiotics improved survival only in children with kwashiorkor but not marasmus. The specific pathogenic characteristics of kwashiorkor identified in this review open new avenues to develop more targeted and effective treatments for both marasmus and/or kwashiorkor. Urgent correction of plasma glutathione depletion, alongside supply of specific essential amino acids, particularly methionine and cysteine, early detection of pathogens and an antibiotic more efficient than amoxicillin in supressing gut Proteobacteria including K. pneumoniae, and probiotics to restore the human gut anaerobic mature microbiota could save many more children with kwashiorkor.

Three different kinds of plastic bags HL, VHL, and VN1 with different chemical nature were degraded by a novel thermophilic bacterial strain isolated from composting agricultural residual in Vietnam in shaking liquid medium at 55 °C after 30 d. The new strain was classified in the Bacillus genus by morphological property and sequence of partial 16Sr RNA coding gene and named as Bacillus sp. BCBT21. This strain could produce extracellular hydrolase enzymes including lipase, CMCase, xylanase, chitinase, and protease with different level of activity in the same media. After a 30-d treatment at 55 °C with Bacillus sp. BCBT21, all characteristics including properties and morphology of treated plastic bags had been significantly changed. The weight loss, structure and surface morphology of these bags as well as the change in the average molecular weight of VHL bag were detected. Especially, the average molecular weight of VHL bag was significantly reduced from 205 000 to 116 760. New metabolites from the treated bags indicated biodegradation occurring with the different pathways. This finding suggests that there is high potential to develop an effective integrated method for plastic bags degradation by a combination of extracellular enzymes from bacteria and fungi existing in the composting process.

International audience; The French wholesale market is set to expand in the next few years under European pressures and national decisions. In this paper, we investigate the performance of the French wholesale power market to examine whether or not the equilibrium outcomes are competitive. After a literature review on the different existing models, an extension of the Bresnahan - Lau (1982) method in panel data framework is employed with hourly dataset during 2009-2012 on the French wholesale market. The model-based results suggest that though market power is found statistically significant in several peak-load hours, it stays at very low level. On average, no market power is exercised over the examined period. These results correspond with the extremely regulated wholesale power market in France. It is of high interest given the future evolution of the French wholesale market which will be among the biggest in Europe in 2016 after the end of regulated tariffs for all firms.
