In the automobile, aerospace and other sectors, the use of titanium has enabled several types of applications. Understanding its fundamentals is necessary not only to identify the corrosion mechanisms, but also to prevent it through appropriate protection techniques and to predict the behavior of corrosion in metallic materials under service conditions. Understanding corrosion mechanisms is a key to develop a knowledge-based design of corrosion-resistant alloys and predicting the long-term behavior of metallic materials in corrosive environments. This paper analyzes the corrosion resistance of metallic alloys Ti6Al4V and CoCrMo when immersed in electrolytic solutions. In addition, this paper studies the possible corrosion effects caused by temperature, pH and immersion time conditions and carry out electrochemical tests such as: OCP; ECIS and polarization curve. The effect of alkali treatment and fiber length on the wear performance of the Palmyra palm leaf stalk fiber (PPLSF)–polyester composites and the possibilities for using PPLSF in wear resistance applications were explored at different speeds and normal loads for constant sliding distance using pin on disk wear tester as per the ASTM G99 standard. Unsaturated polyester was used as matrix, and composites were prepared by molding in an open mold and pouring the resin. It was observed that wear loss and coefficient of friction reduced due to reinforcement of PPLSF. Reinforcing alkali-treated PPLSF in the matrix has further reduced the wear loss and coefficient of friction. At high speed and high load condition considered in this study shows that the wear loss and coefficient of friction were reduced by 64 and 22%, respectively, for alkali-treated fiber composites compared with untreated fiber composites. The effect of fiber length on the wear performance was also evaluated and optimal set of parameters that would result in minimum wear loss and coefficient of friction was determined by design of experimental method using Taguchi’s orthogonal array. During the current investigation, alkali treated Palmyra palm leaf stalk fiber (PPLSF) and jute fibers were chosen as reinforcement for the unsaturated polyester matrix. Layering patterns such as bi-layer (PPLSF/jute) and tri-layer (PPLSF/jute/PPLSF and jute/PPLSF/jute) were chosen, and composites were fabricated by hand layup followed by compression molding process. The tensile and flexural properties of the hybrid composites with different layering pattern were determined and compared with pure PPLSF and jute unsaturated polyester composites. It was observed that the bi-layer composites had higher tensile properties, while the tri-layer (jute/PPLSF/jute) composites had higher flexural properties in comparison with PPLSF composites. Seventeen percent improvement in tensile strength, 51% improvement in tensile modulus for bi-layer composites and 45% improvement in flexural strength, 60% improvement in flexural modulus for jute/PPLSF/jute composites were observed in comparison with the PPLSF composites. Fractographic studies on the tensile fractured surfaces were performed using scanning electron microscopy that showed the evidence of interface adhesion between the fiber and matrix.
