Inferior vena cava atresia is a rare and usually asymptomatic condition. However, when these patients undergo cardiac surgery, it can present an unexpected and challenging situation for the surgeon. Specifically, adequate venous drainage during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is a critical issue here and may require an extension of cannulation strategies. Adequate preoperative diagnostics, ideally with imaging modalities such as CT angiography or MRI, are required for optimal surgical planning. Here, we describe a rare case of thoracic ascending aortic aneurysm with concomitant inferior vena cava atresia that was successfully operated on. With adequate preoperative planning, we were able to perform an operation without unforeseen complications with standard initialization of CPB.

To investigate access failure (AF) and stroke rates of aortic procedures performed with upper extremity access (UEA), and compare results of open surgical vs. percutaneous UEA techniques with closure devices. A physician initiated, multicentre, ambispective, observational registry (SUPERAXA - NCT04589962) was carried out of patients undergoing aortic procedures requiring UEA, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement, aortic arch, and thoraco-abdominal aortic endovascular repair, pararenal parallel grafts, renovisceral and iliac vessel repair. Only vascular procedures performed with an open surgical or percutaneous (with a suture mediated vessel closure device) UEA were analysed. Risk factors and endpoints were classified according to the Society for Vascular Surgery and VARC-3 (Valve Academic Research Consortium) reporting standards. A logistic regression model was used to identify AF and stroke risk predictors, and propensity matching was employed to compare the UEA closure techniques. Sixteen centres registered 1 098 patients (806 men [73.4%]; median age 74 years, interquartile range 69 – 79 years) undergoing vascular procedures using open surgical (76%) or percutaneous (24%) UEA. Overall AF and stroke rates were 6.8% and 3.0%, respectively. Independent predictors of AF by multivariable analysis included pacemaker ipsilateral to the access (odds ratio [OR] 3.8, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.2 – 12.1; p =.026), branched and fenestrated procedure (OR 3.4, 95% CI 1.2 – 9.6; p =.019) and introducer internal diameter ≥ 14 F (OR 6.6, 95% CI 2.1 – 20.7; p =.001). Stroke was associated with female sex (OR 3.4, 95% CI 1.3 – 9.0; p =.013), vessel diameter > 7 mm (OR 3.9, 95% CI 1.1 – 13.8; p =.037), and aortic arch procedure (OR 7.3, 95% CI 1.7 – 31.1; p =.007). After 1:1 propensity matching, there was no difference between open surgical and percutaneous cohorts. However, a statistically significantly higher number of adjunctive endovascular procedures was recorded in the percutaneous cohort (p <.001). AF and stroke rates during complex aortic procedures employing UEA are non-negligible. Therefore, selective use of UEA is warranted. Percutaneous access with vessel closure devices is associated with similar complication rates, but more adjunctive endovascular procedures are required to avoid surgical exposure. Background: We aimed to test the hypothesis that there is an association between hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and dilated aorta in a case-control, matched-design fashion. Methods: Of 65,843 studies done from November 2011 to December 2015, we found, after detailed evaluation by a single author, 153 cases of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and 3,213 controls who were classified as normal clinically and echocardiographically. Controls were defined as normal patients referred to the echocardiography laboratory with no diagnoses and no known risk factors for dilated aorta (e.g., aortic stenosis, hypertension, aortic regurgitation). Clinical chart review showed none of the risk factors for dilated aorta, and echocardiography did not reveal any abnormalities. Of these 3,213 patients, 153 controls were matched to cases by age and sex by propensity score. Dilated aorta was defined according to clinical, Goldstein, and Lang's criteria. Results: The prevalence of a dilated sinus of Valsalva was 9 times higher in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients than controls (OR = 9.4, P = 0.003). The 9-fold higher prevalence in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients persisted after adjusting for height, weight, and aortic pathology. Association of dilated mid-ascending aorta with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy was significant after adjustment for height and body surface area but became borderline insignificant after adjusting for weight and aortic valve pathology. Conclusion: Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy appears to be associated with a dilated sinus of Valsalva, even after adjusting for height, weight, and aortic valve pathology.

BackgroundBicuspid aortic valve (BAV) is associated with ascending aorta aneurysms and dissections. Presently, genetic factors and pathological flow patterns are considered responsible for aneurysm formation in BAV while the exact role of inflammatory processes remains unknown.MethodsIn order to objectify inflammation, we employ a highly sensitive, quantitative immunohistochemistry approach. Whole slides of dissected, dilated and non-dilated ascending aortas from BAV patients were quantitatively analyzed.ResultsDilated aortas show a 4-fold increase of lymphocytes and a 25-fold increase in B lymphocytes in the adventitia compared to non-dilated aortas. Tertiary lymphoid structures with B cell follicles and helper T cell expansion were identified in dilated and dissected aortas. Dilated aortas were associated with an increase in M1-like macrophages in the aorta media, in contrast the number of M2-like macrophages did not change significantly.ConclusionThis study finds unexpected large numbers of immune cells in dilating aortas of BAV patients. These findings raise the question whether immune cells in BAV aortopathy are innocent bystanders or contribute to the deterioration of the aortic wall.

Acute aortic syndrome (AAS) encompasses a group of severe, life-threatening conditions characterized by impaired aortic wall integrity and possible occurrence of fatal aortic haemorrhage. This group of diseases comprises acute aortic dissection (AAD), intramural haematoma (IMH), penetrating aortic ulcer (PAU), and symptomatic thoracic aorta aneurysm (TAA). Although it is a heterogeneous group of diseases, their common, though non-specific, feature is pain in the chest or back which is manifested at the outset as the chief complaint. Timely and correct diagnosis is essential for an appropriate treatment strategy which involves open surgery in the case of involvement of the ascending aorta, endovascular surgery in the case of complicated involvement of the descending aorta, and conservative medical therapy in uncomplicated cases with involvement of the descending thoracic aorta. Recently, there has also been development of combined, or hybrid, procedures consisting of a surgical and an endovascular part, particularly in conditions with involvement of the aortic arch and ascending aorta. The patient with acute aortic syndrome always requires a diagnostic-therapeutic procedure on an urgent basis and should be referred to specialized centres where multi- disciplinary aortic teams are available. The present paper provides a summary of current knowledge of this issue which represents a serious medical problem, sometimes referred to with some exaggeration as “vascular catastrophe”. To determine the optimal and safest proximal sealing length (PSL) during thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR), depending on anatomical aortic arch types and proximal landing zones (LZs). This was a single centre retrospective observational study of consecutive TEVAR patients (2008–2020). All aortic pathologies requiring Ishimaru landing zone (LZ) 0 – 3 were included; results were stratified by aortic arch type. The PSL was measured as the length of complete aortic wall to endograft apposition at the level of the proximal neck. The primary endpoint was proximal failure (type 1A endoleak, endograft migration, or re-intervention requiring proximal graft extension). Freedom from proximal failure was estimated with Kaplan–Meier curves. An "optimal" sealing length (PSL cutoff maximising sensitivity + specificity for proximal failure) and "safest length" (PSL cutoff determining ≥ 90% sensitivity) were identified using receiver operating characteristic curve analysis. One hundred and forty patients received TEVAR; mean ± standard deviation PSL was 29 ± 9 mm. Freedom from proximal endograft failure at five years (median 31 months) was 82.4% (95% confidence interval [CI] 72 – 95); the shorter the PSL, the greater was the risk of failure (hazard ratio 0.90, 95% CI 0.84 – 0.97; p =.004). Overall optimal and safest PSL were 25 mm (sensitivity 78%, specificity 66%) and 30 mm (sensitivity 92%, specificity 30%), respectively. In type I arch, the optimal PSL was 22 mm (sensitivity 50%, specificity 87%). In type II, the optimal PSL was 25 mm (sensitivity 89%, specificity 59%) overall and 27 mm for type II/LZ 2 – 3 (sensitivity 31%, specificity 68%). For type III, the optimal PSL was 27 mm (sensitivity 80%, specificity 87%); the safest was 30 mm (sensitivity 100%, specificity 61%) In type III/LZ 2 – 3, the optimal PSL was 27 mm (sensitivity 31%, specificity 68%) and safest was 30 mm (sensitivity 100%, specificity 55%). Aim. To evaluate the impact of genetics in development of thoracic aneurysm in patients with tricuspid valve (TAV) and bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) based on the analysis and search for mutations in NOTCH1.Material and methods. In the study, 60 patients included with the dilation of thoracic aorta more than 40 mm and 200 patients with no aortic pathology, included in the comparison group. All patients underwent echocardiographic assessment on Vivid 7 (GE, USA) equipment, by standard protocol. For molecular genetics we utilized the strategy of targeted mutation screening, including the analysis of 10 of 34 exones of the gene NOTCH1, performed with the direct sequencing.Results. Patients with BAV were younger than those with no inborn defect. Arterial hypertension was verified only in every second BAV patient. Introduction. Hybrid procedures represent staged or simultaneous endovascular and open surgical techniques in the treatment of complex pathologies of the thoracic and abdominal aorta. We are presenting a patient with previous abdominal aortic surgery in whom hybrid vascular procedure for descending aorta and left subclavian artery aneurysm was performed. Case Outline. A 63-year-old female patient was admitted for computed tomography angiography. Descending aorta aneurysm (7.6 cm) as well as aneurysm of the left subclavian artery (LSA) was noted. Eight years ago she underwent abdominal aortic aneurysm resection and aortoiliac bypass. Standard TEVAR (thoracic endovascular aortic repair) procedure couldn’t be done due to small dimensions of previous “Y” graft (12.6 mm), so first we did LSA transposition and after three days hybrid procedure. After “Y” graft exposure, anastomosis between the corps of “Y” graft and tubular graft 10 mm was created and through this conduit thoracic stent-graft was placed followed by complete “Y” graft replacement. After 6 months angiography showed regular postoperative findings. Conclusion. In adult the patent ductus arteriosus is a rare condition associated sometimes with lethal complications. We describe the case of a 44-year-old woman with a history of systemic lupus erythematosus admitted to our hospital with hoarseness and severe dyspnea. Clinical imaging examinations indicated a saccular aneurysm within a persistent ductus arteriosus with signs of impending rupture. Patient was not considered suitable for transcatheter closure and therefore she underwent open aortic repair. Background: Accurate assessment of the aortic annulus (AA) dimension and judgment of thoracic aorta aneurysm is crucial for patients with aortic regurgitation (AR) before surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the accuracy and reproducibility of three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (3D-TEE) methods for AA measurement and explore the predictive value of the AA dimensions obtained by 3D-TEE for high-risk thoracic aorta aneurysms using the gold standard of multi-slice computed tomography (MSCT)., Methods: 3D-TEE was performed on 111 patients with pure moderate-to-severe AR, and MSCT examination was conducted simultaneously. AA dimensions were obtained using reconstruction software for these two imaging techniques. Thoracic aortic diameters at standard anatomic landmarks were also measured by MSCT. All patients were divided into two groups depending on the presence of high-risk thoracic aorta aneurysms., Results: Compared to MSCT, 3D-TEE overestimated all AA parameters. However, no statistically significant differences were found in the average bias between methods (minimum diameter: 26.07±3.57 vs . 25.88±3.68 mm, P=0.52; maximum diameter: 32.30±2.68 vs . 31.78±4.06 mm, P=0.11; area: 669.76±155.19 vs . 660.05±168.28 mm 2 , P=0.44; perimeter: 93.52±10.42 vs . 92.26±11.71 mm, P=0.12). 3D-TEE demonstrated good correlations with MSCT measurement for AA minimum diameter, maximum diameter, area, and perimeter (r=0.63, 0.64, 0.74, 0.69, P<0.05 for all). According to the multivariate logistic regression analysis, the AA minimum diameter obtained by 3D-TEE was the best predictor for the presence of high-risk thoracic aorta aneurysms. The sensitivity and specificity for prediction were 84.6% and 63.9%, respectively, for an AA minimum diameter ≥25.74 mm (AUC: 0.759, 95% CI: 0.668-0.850)., Conclusions: AA measurements obtained by the 3D-TEE method are feasible and reliable for patients with pure AR. Thoracic aortic aneurysms are typically asymptomatic and discovered incidentally on an imaging study ordered for other indications. Small aneurysms are managed with antihypertensive therapy and surveillance imaging, using either echocardiography, computed tomographic angiography (CTA), or magnetic resonance angiography (MRA). Aneurysms are repaired when the risk of rupture or dissection exceeds the risk of repair; size thresholds for repair are determined by the underlying etiology of the aneurysm, with lower thresholds for those with genetic aortopathies. In contrast to the silent and asymptomatic nature of aneurysms, acute aortic syndromes-which include aortic dissection, intramural hematoma, and penetrating atherosclerotic ulcer-are usually associated with recognizable symptoms and signs. Acute aortic syndromes involving the ascending aorta are treated with emergent surgery, whereas those involving the descending aorta are now often treated with endovascular stent-grafting techniques. After acute aortic syndromes have been successfully treated, prognosis is favorable with close follow-up that includes optimal medical management and regular surveillance imaging. Aortic valve replacement has traditionally been the treatment of choice for patients with aortic valve insufficiency with or without aortic root pathology. Aortic valve repair is emerging as an attractive treatment alternative that avoids the long-term risks associated with prosthetic valve implantation including thromboembolism, endocarditis, prosthetic valve deterioration, and anticoagulation related hemorrhage. Important achievements in this discipline have occurred over the past decade including development and refinement of valve preserving aortic root replacement techniques, development of a classification system for aortic insufficiency, surgical approaches to cusp disease with varying cusp anatomy. As surgical techniques for aortic valve repair continue to evolve, clinical outcomes up to and beyond the first decade are promising with excellent survival and low risk of valve related events. Background. The usage of thoracic endografts in the treatment of thoracic aortic lesions is a universally recognized method. Intentional coverage of the left subclavian artery during deployment of the endograft could be associated with several complications such as stroke, spinal cord ischaemia, left arm ischaemia, and vertebrobasilar ischaemia. This study presents the incidence of complications associated with LSA coverage in 60 patients with LSA covered dunng placement of thoracic endograft. Additionally, the relationship between incidence of complications and factors such as age and type of pathology is analysed. Material and methods. Sixty patients were qualified to the study, 12 women and 48 men between the ages of 23 and 83 years. The mean age was 56 years. A total of 21 patients were operated on for true aneurysm, 9 for post-traumatic aneurysm, 22 for Stanford B dissection, and 8 for Stanford A dissection. Patients were assessed in terms of presence of stroke, spinal cord ischaemia as well as symptoms associated with left arm ischaemia and vertebrobasilar ischaemia. The incidence of present symptoms was analysed in separate subgroups based on the type of pathology of the aorta due to which patients were operated (true aneurysm, traumatic aneurysm, Stanford type A dissection, and Stanford type B dissection) and age subgroups. Results. In none of the 60 patients enrolled for the study spinal cord ischaemia was observed. Two cases (3.3%) of reversible stroke (RIND reversible ischaemic neurological deficit) and one case (1.6%) of stroke (complete ischaemic stroke CIS) were observed. Regarding symptoms typical for subclavian steal syndrome, dizziness occurred in 10 patients (16.7%), vertigo in 2 patients (3.3%), left arm weakness in 32 patients (53.2%), and coldness -- in 26 patients (43.3%). Neither rest pain nor pain after exercise was observed in any case. Statistical analysis did not show any connection between the incidence of complications and age or type of pathology for which the patient had been operated. Conclusions. Planned coverage of the LSA is a safe procedure. In most of cases patients with covered LSA did not require any further reconstructions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Myofibroblasts (MFs) are contractile cells deriving from a multiplicity of resident cells and/or circulating progenitors that are known to play a key role in wound healing. They were first discovered and analysed in the early 1970s in granulation tissue. Since their first identification, the role of MF and their mechanisms of differentiation have been highlighted in a number of diseases, including organ fibrosis and tumours, with particular attention devoted to the liver, kidney, and pulmonary fibrosis. The aim of this review is to summarize the current evidence for the role played by MFs in two frequent vascular diseases related to the remodelling of the vascular wall: the different forms of arterial restenosis and the most common forms of thoracic aortic aneurysm. The in-depth knowledge of the molecular pathways involved in MF differentiation, contraction, and survival/apoptosis could contribute to the identification of novel therapeutic strategies for anti-fibrotic and anti-remodelling therapy of vascular diseases in which these cells are involved. The aim of the study was to demonstrate the safety and effectiveness of a suture-mediated vascular closure device to perform hemostasis after an axillary artery access during endovascular procedures on the aortic valve, the aorta and its side branches. A physician-initiated, international, multicenter, retrospective registry was designed to evaluate the success rate (VARC-2 reporting standards) of percutaneous transaxillary access closure with a suture-mediated closure device. Secondary end points were minor access vascular complications, transient peripheral nerve injury, stroke, and influence on periprocedural outcomes of puncture technique. Three hundred thirty-one patients (median age, 76 years; 69.2% males) in 11 centers received a percutaneous transaxillary access during endovascular cardiac (n = 166) or vascular (n = 165) procedures. The closure success rate was 84.6%, with 5 open conversions (1.5%), 45 adjunctive endovascular procedures (13.6%), and 1 nerve injury (0.3%). Secondary closure success was obtained in 325 patients (98%) after 7 bare stenting, 37 covered stenting, and 1 thrombin injection. Introducer sheaths 16F or larger (odds ratio, 3.70; 95% confidence interval, 1.22-11.42) and balloon-assisted hemostasis (odds ratio, 4.45; 95% confidence interval, 1.27-15.68) were associated with closure failure. A threshold of five percutaneous axillary accesses was associated with decreased rates of open conversion, but not with increased primary closure success. Primary closure success was 90.3% in the 175 patients with sheaths smaller than 16F, performed after the first 5 procedures in each center. Temporary nerve injury and stroke were observed in 2% and 4% of patients, respectively. Percutaneous transaxillary aortic procedures, in selected patients, can be performed with low rates of open conversion. Objective. The main objective of this study was to analyze direct hospital cost and to compare cost with existing DRG reimbursement for open repair of thoracic and thoraco-abdominal aortic disease. Study sample and methodology. Between January 2003 and September 2003, the cost of treatment for 24 surgical procedures on ascending aorta and arch, descending or thoraco-abdominal aortic disease were examined prospectively. Seven patients had urgent or emergency surgeries. Ten had sternotomies for disease of the ascending aorta and aortic arch; two had left thoracotomies and three thoraco-laparotomy incisions with procedures performed on x-corporeal circulation. Nine other patients had more distal thoraco-abdominal aortic operations with a clamp-and-sew technique. Micro-cost analysis was performed on each hospital stay, in addition overhead hospital costs were allocated to each procedure. Results. The patients were grouped by discharge diagnosis (ICD-10) and surgical procedure performed (NCSP) into Norwegian DRG code. Patient with surgery on ascending aorta & aortic arch were allocated to DRG 108 (n =9) or 483 (tracheostomy, n =1) while patient with surgery on descending or thoraco-abdominal aorta were allocated to DRG 108 (n =3), 110 (n =4), 111 (n =4) or 483 (tracheostomy, n =3). The mean EuroSCORE for patients with proximal aortic disease was 11 5-18 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 , and the length of stay was 5 days (range 3-8 days), spending 2 days (range 1-7 days) in thoracic intensive care unit. For patients with distal aortic disease the mean Euroscore was 7 2-14 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 , and the mean length of stay 10 days (range 4-23 days) with a mean 4 days (range 1-13 days) in intensive care unit. Eight patients developed medical problems requiring new surgical procedures or prolonged ICU stay. The average direct hospital cost for proximal aortic surgery was USD 15 877 (USD 1 =NOK 7.5) while the respective 100% DRG reimbursement including one patient needing a tracheostomy, was 19 803 USD. For patients with distal aortic disease, average direct hospital cost was 23 005 USD and DRG reimbursement including patients needing a tracheostomy was 31543 USD. Conclusion. Our results underscore previous findings that these patients are resource intensive. This study shows that Norwegian 100% DRG reimbursement did over-compensate observed total hospital costs in this cohort. Detailed analysis showed that this was due to the higher DRG reimbursement for patients needing prolonged ventilatory support. Thus the actual DRG reimbursement seems to be relevant to the tertiary hospital actual costs when these complicated patients are considered as a group. It remains however unclear whether this reimbursement is sufficient to support the scientific infrastructure for new knowledge and skills needed for the further refinement of treatment. Summary: Matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) degrade extracellular matrix and may play a central role in the pathogenesis of aortic aneurysms. We studied 2 groups of patients: 15 with dilatative pathology of the ascending thoracic aorta and 17 with aneurysm of the abdominal aortic wall (AAA). We compared the expression of MMPs, tissue inhibitors of matrix metalloproteinases (TIMPs), and osteopontin in the wall of thoracic and abdominal aneurysms. In AAA, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 expression in inflammatory cells was higher than in smooth muscle cells (SMCs) (median score: 3.5 versus 1, P < .0001; 2 versus 1, P < .04, respectively), whereas MMP-2 demonstrated higher expression in SMCs than in inflammatory cells (median score: 0 versus 4, P < .0001). In ATA, MMP-2, MMP-9, TIMP-1, TIMP-2, TIMP-3, and osteopontin expression in SMCs was higher than in inflammatory cells (median score: 3 versus 0, P < .0001; 4 versus 1, P < .0005; 2 versus 0, P < .001; 5 versus 2, P < .0001; 2 versus 0, P < .005; and 5 versus 1.5, P < .0001, respectively), when both inflammatory cells of the media and the adventitia were considered together. The cellular expression of MMP-9 and their tissue inhibitors TIMP-1, TIMP-2, and TIMP-3 differs in the dilatative pathology of abdominal and thoracic aortas, so the hypothetical model of morphogenesis of AAA cannot completely explain the formation of dilatative pathology of the ascending thoracic aorta. Abstract: Aortoesophageal fistula secondary to a thoracic aortic aneurysm is usually a fatal disease with few survivors reported previously. We encountered 2 consecutive patients who were treated successfully with esophagectomy and in situ aorta reconstruction using cryopreserved homograft that was wrapped completely with omental pedicle flap. For the construction of omental flap, the right gastroepiploic artery was resected at the root and all the vessels entering the greater curvature and the transverse colon were resected at the adherent edges. Because the gastroepiploic arcade is totally preserved, large amounts of omental tissue could be obtained, with an excellent blood supply mainly from the left gastroepiploic artery. This type of omental flap is highly mobile, easily transferred to the left hemithorax, and has enough volume to cover the in situ aortic graft completely including anastomosis lines. Thus, our omental coverage appears to be the most reliable method to prevent postoperative graft infection. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

• Aortitis is rarely identified in thoracic aorta aneurysm/dissection specimens. • Most aortitis cases are identified by histopathology prior to clinical diagnosis. • Aortitis induces higher media damage vs. noninflammatory degenerative aortopathies. • Aortitis induces marked damage to media even in small aortic diameters. Not rarely aortitis is firstly identified in thoracic aorta aneurysm/dissection specimens only by histopathology in the absence of clinical evidence of systemic inflammatory disease emphasizing the importance of histology for the diagnosis of aortitis. Regardless of the improvement of the pathological assessment of aortic diseases by the recent consensus statements on surgical pathology of the aorta, histology can be confusing since medial degenerative changes (MDC) can be prominent in a background where inflammation is sometimes limited. This raises the question of the role of aging or other degenerative process versus the role of inflammation in the damage to aorta wall. In this study, besides inflammation, we evaluated aorta samples from aortitis cases focusing on the histological scoring of MDC. In this retrospective single center study, we retrieved 719 cases of ascending aorta aneurysms or dissections operated on from January 2010 until June 2018. MDC (elastic fiber fragmentation and/or loss, smooth muscle nuclei loss, mucoid extracellular matrix accumulation intralemellar or translamellar) were estimated using a scoring system derived from that of the consensus statement. Noninfectious aortitis group versus age-matched non-inflammatory degenerative aortic disease group were compared. Noninfectious aortitis was pathologically diagnosed in 62 patients (8.6%). Among the 62 noninfectious aortitis patients, 47 patients (75.8%) had aortitis identified pathologically prior to the clinical diagnosis. Higher MDC scores were observed at all aortic sizes in aortitis group versus non-aortitis group, especially for elastic fiber damage and smooth muscle cell loss. Aortitis is remarkably associated with severe damage to the aorta wall resulting in advanced MDC scores. Inflammatory process is responsible for higher MDC in the aorta wall than aging or other degenerative process. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
