Abstract

The BOREAS TF-1 team collected various trace gas and energy flux data in its efforts to characterize the temporal energy and gas exchanges that occurred over the SSA-OA site. This data set contains methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) fluxes that were measured at the BOREAS SSA-OA site. These fluxes were measured from 16-Apr to 16-Sep-1994. The data were averaged to weekly values and are available in tabular ASCII files.

Abstract

The effect of surface structure on adsorption, diffusion, and the local velocity distributions has been studied using computer simulations and Brownian diffusion theory. The results of these two studies are in nearly perfect agreement both qualitatively and quantitatively. In contrast they are in sharp disagreement with statistical mechanic theories due to a wall structure induced local deviation of the equilibrium velocity distributions from the usual Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution. 8. A Lagrangian Solution To The Relationship Between A Distributed Source And Concentration Profile

Abstract

A new solution is presented to the problem ofrelating source strength and concentration profiles within a plant canopy. The solution is based on the Lagrangian dispersion theory developed by G. I. Taylor in 1921. A dispersion matrix is derived that relates the source and concentration profiles based on profiles of the turbulent length and velocity scales. The matrix translates the effects of persistence (a temporal effect) into spatialcoordinates and represents the change from near-field to far-field in acontinuous fashion, successfully accounting for both regimes. A test ofthe new model using wind-tunnel data showed excellent quantitative agreement between model and measurements. A comparison was also made withM. R. Raupach's localized near-field theory, which underestimated the near-field effect in the wind-tunnel data and relative to the new model.

Abstract

A small, three-dimensional pressure-probe anemometer (IMFL anemoclinometer) was used to measure the three components of the wind vector, shear stress, and the ratio of the standard deviation of the vertical wind to the friction velocity as influenced by atmospheric stability. Horizontal wind and shear stress have been compared with independent wind profile and shear stress meter measurements. The anemometer was coupled with a fast thermometer for eddy correlation measurements of sensible heat flux and with a fast hygrometer for measurements of latent heat flux. The eddy correlation measurements of sensible and latent heat fluxes were compared with independent energy balance, wind profile, and sonic anemometer-thermometer measurements.
