A physician trained to administer a questionnaire in a standardized fashion interviewed each patient and collected data regarding gender, age, career, acute and chronic pain, diagnoses, treatment, and satisfaction with treatment.Results: There were 12,136 respondents (50.65% male and 49.35% female) from 48 of the 63 provinces in Vietnam. About 86.53% of respondents reported experiencing pain that affected their daily lives, with 24.10% complaining of acute pain and 62.43% having chronic pain. About 67.71% reported pain that affected job performance. Headache was the most common complaint in 35.43% of the respondents. Fewer than half (43.35%) of all patients with pain sought help from a doctor; only a quarter (27.50%) sought help within 1 month of experiencing that pain. A majority (61.98%) of patients who did seek help were satisfied with treatment results. The median cost of treatment was between 150 and 250 USD.Conclusion: Pain severe enough to impact patients’ daily lives is common in Vietnam. Treatment costs are a significant economic burden and may help explain why only a minority of patients seek treatment. Access to lower cost, effective treatment for pain should be improved. This study presents effective methods for utilizing the TiO 2 photocatalyst in environmental remediation, with a particular focus on the removal of the carbofuran pesticide (CBFP) from wastewater. Silver (Ag) was selected as a potential dopant to improve the optical properties as well as the electron-hole pair separation efficiency of TiO 2 . Ag-doped TiO 2 (Ag-TiO 2 ) effectively decomposed 92.8% CBFP under solar light, which was significantly higher than that of TiO 2 (21.3%). Ag-TiO 2 also exhibited good reusability for CBFP degradation, with a reduction in removal efficiency of less than 3% after three cycles. In practical applications, Ag-TiO 2 successfully degraded 89.3% of CBFP in wastewater and 98.7% in surface water. The findings of this work bring an effective method for removing pesticide pollutants using Ag-TiO 2 photocatalyst.

Background: Tobacco remains the leading cause of preventable death globally. Vietnam's 2012 Law on Prevention and Control of Tobacco Harms establishes all healthcare facilities as smoke-free environments. We aimed to evaluate the implementation of these policies within health facilities across Vietnam., Methods: A cross-sectional study was undertaken at 40 central, provincial, district and commune healthcare facilities in four provinces of Vietnam. The presence of tobacco sales, smoke-free signage, evidence of recent tobacco use and smoking behaviours by patients and staff were observed over a 1-week period at multiple locations within each facility. Adherence with national regulations was reported using descriptive statistics., Results: 23 out of 40 facilities (57.5%) followed the requirements of the national smoke-free policy regarding tobacco sales, advertising and signage. Smoking was observed within health facility grounds at 26 (65%) facilities during the observation period. Indirect evidence of smoking was observed at 35 (88%) facilities. Sites where smoking was permitted (n=2) were more likely to have observed smoking behaviour (relative risk (RR) 2.16, 95% CI 1.83 to 2.56). Facilities where tobacco was sold (n=7) were more likely to have smoking behaviour observed at any of their sites (RR 1.53, 95% CI 0.93 to 2.51)., Conclusions: Implementation of current smoke-free hospital regulations remains incomplete, with widespread evidence of smoking observed at three levels of the Vietnamese healthcare facilities. Antibiotic residues have become serious health concerns due to the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The treatment of antibiotic pollutants in wastewater is necessary for reducing the issue of antibiotic resistance. In this work, the metal oxide photocatalyst titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) was evaluated for the removal of the tetracycline antibiotic (TC-A) and the deactivation of E. coli bacteria (E-B) from wastewater. Based on the oxidation process, TiO 2 can successfully degrade TC-A in wastewater with an efficiency of up to 96.4%. It is also employed for the deactivation of E. coli , completely inactivating the bacteria within 30 min. Moreover, after five cycles of reuse, TiO 2 demonstrated high removal efficiencies of over 80% and 95% for TC-A and E-B, respectively. Finally, the proposed mechanism for the removal of TC-A and the deactivation of E. coli using the TiO 2 photocatalyst is presented. This work provides a simple method for removing antibiotic pollutants and deactivating bacteria in wastewater.

Objective: To describe the economic, lifestyle and nutritional impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on parents, guardians and children in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam., Design: Data from the SEANUTS II cohort were used. Questionnaires, including a COVID-19 questionnaire, were used to study the impact of the pandemic on parents/guardians and their children with respect to work status, household expenditures and children's dietary intake and lifestyle behaviours., Setting: Data were collected in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam between May 2019 and April 2021., Participants: In total, 9203 children, aged 0·5-12·9 years, including their parents/guardians., Results: Children and their families were significantly affected by the pandemic. Although the impact of lockdown measures on children's food intake has been relatively mild in all countries, food security was negatively impacted, especially in Indonesia. Surprisingly, in Malaysia, lockdown resulted in overall healthier dietary patterns with more basic food groups and less discretionary foods. Consumption of milk/dairy products, however, decreased. In the other countries, intake of most food groups did not change much during lockdown for households based on self-reporting. Only in rural Thailand, some marginal decreases in food intakes during lockdown persisted after lockdown. Physical activity of children, monthly household income and job security of the parents/guardians were negatively affected in all countries due to the pandemic., Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly impacted societies in South-East Asia. To counteract negative effects, economic measures should be combined with strategies to promote physical activity and eating nutrient-adequate diets to increase resilience of the population.

The study evaluated the larvicidal and reproductive effects of essential oils from Ocimum basilicum, Perilla frutescens, and Mentha spicata on engorged female Rhipicephalus sanguineus ticks. Adult immersion and larval packet assays were used to evaluate their larvicidal efficacy and impact on tick reproductive abilities. For tick larvae, Perilla frutescens essential oil had the highest 50% lethal dose of 1.89 mg/mL, followed by Ocimum basilicum at 1.58 mg/mL, and Mentha spicata at 1.07 mg/mL. Regarding adult ticks, although Mentha spicata essential oil had the lowest reduced oviposition value, it showed the highest product efficacy. Overall, all tested essential oils effectively killed tick larvae and influenced the reproductive capacity of engorged female ticks, with Mentha spicata essential oil being the most potent.

The utilization of agricultural by-products for the synthesis of hybrid nanomaterials represents an environmentally sustainable approach. This research aims to comprehensively investigate high-performance silver and copper nanoparticles hybrid materials based on carboxymethyl-modified cellulose / lignin derived from rice husks (CMC / CML-AgNPs and CMC / CML-CuONPs) and apply them for antimicrobial activities. CMC / CML was used to reduce Ag / Cu cations to the atomic level and then efficiently stabilize Ag / CuO nanoparticles, an eco-friendly method and sustainable development. The hybrid nanomaterials were successfully synthesized with spherical shapes and particle sizes ranging from 4 to 16 nm. The diffraction peaks at 38.46°, 46.57°, 64.93°, and 77.55° were ascribed to the face-centered cubic crystal lattice (111), (200), (220), and (311) of silver nanoparticles in the CMC / CML-AgNPs. The peaks were 32.26°, 46.06°, 52.16°, 61.71°, 63.80°, and 71.23° associating with the (110,20-2), (112), (11-3), (310), and (221) plane orientations of CuO nanoparticles. The proposed materials demonstrated highly efficient antimicrobial performances. Particularly, CMC-AgNPs and CML-CuONPs exhibited an inhibitory capability of up to 100 % against E. coli and S. aureus within 72 h. Simultaneously, the antifungal results showed that hybrid nanomaterials have a better ability to inhibit the A. niger than A. flavus fungus. When experimenting on peanut seeds, hybrid nanomaterials showed an inhibitory capability of up to 99.0 % against A. niger. IC 50 values of the hybrid nanomaterials range from 0.872 mg/mL to 1.188 mg/mL, confirming that these materials are non-cytotoxic. Gastric ulcer is a common gastrointestinal disorder worldwide. Although its pathogenesis is unclear, the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which results in an oxidative imbalance, has been reported as a central driving mechanism. Within the scope of this investigation, we developed two different self-assembling redox nanoparticles (RNPs) with ROS-scavenging features for the oral treatment of gastric ulcers. One of them, referred to as RNP N , disintegrates in response to acidic pH, whereas the other, denoted as RNP O , remains intact regardless of pH variations. Both types of RNPs showed different free radical scavenging activities in vitro. Protonation of the amino linkages in the side chains of RNP N caused the micelle structure to collapse and the nitroxide radicals encapsulated in the core were exposed to the outside, resulting in a significant increase in antioxidant capacity as the pH decreases. In contrast, RNP O maintained its spherical structure and consistent antioxidant reactivity irrespective of pH changes. The in vivo gastric retention of orally administered RNP N was significantly improved compared to that of RNP O which might be explained by the increased exposure of cationic protonating segments in RNP N on the negatively charged gastric mucosal surface. Owing to its improved gastric retention and enhanced ROS scavenging capacity under acidic pH conditions, RNP N exhibited superior protective effects against oxidative stress induced by aspirin in a gastric ulcer mouse model compared to RNP O . In addition, neither RNP N nor RNP O resulted in severe lethal effects or significant changes in the morphology of zebrafish embryos, indicating their biosafety. Mortality and morbidity from tuberculous meningitis (TBM) are common, primarily due to inflammatory response to Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection, yet the underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. We aimed to uncover genes and pathways associated with TBM pathogenesis and mortality, and determine the best predictors of death, utilizing whole-blood RNA sequencing from 281 Vietnamese adults with TBM, 295 pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB), and 30 healthy controls. Through weighted gene co-expression network analysis, we identified hub genes and pathways linked to TBM severity and mortality, with a consensus analysis revealing distinct patterns between HIV-positive and HIV-negative individuals. We employed multivariate elastic-net Cox regression to select candidate predictors of death, then logistic regression and internal bootstrap validation to choose best predictors. Increased neutrophil activation and decreased T and B cell activation pathways were associated with TBM mortality. Among HIV-positive individuals, mortality associated with increased angiogenesis, while HIV-negative individuals exhibited elevated TNF signaling and impaired extracellular matrix organization. Four hub genes- MCEMP1, NELL2, ZNF354C , and CD4 -were strong TBM mortality predictors. One new compound, methyl 3-((1-((2-carbamoylphenyl)amino)-1-oxopropan-2-yl)amino)-3-oxopropanoate (1), along with 9 known secondary metabolites (2-10) were isolated and elucidated chemical structures from the methanol extract of the marine-derived fungus Penicillium chrysogenum VH17. Subsequent bioassays showed the antimicrobial and cytotoxic potential of the isolated compounds. All compounds 1-10 displayed antimicrobial effects against at least one tested reference microorganism with MIC values ranging from 32 to 256 µg mL-1. Furthermore, compound 4 exhibited significant cytotoxicity against all tested cell lines, HepG2, A549, and MCF7 with IC50 values of 29.43 ± 1.37, 33.02 ± 1.53, and 36.72 ± 1.88 µM, respectively, whereas compound 3 exhibited weak cytotoxicity against MCF7 and HepG2 cell lines with IC50 values of 87.17 ± 6.31 and 97.32 ± 5.66 µM, respectively., (© The Author(s) 2024. Metal corrosion is a challenge for the world with heavy impacts on the economy. Study on the development of effectiveness anticorrosion additives is a promising strategery for the protection industry. This research focuses on the modification of hydrotalcite Mg-Al (HT) loading tannic acid (TA) with 3-(trimethoxy silyl) propyl methacrylate organo-silane (TMSPM) for applicating as an anti-corrosion additive for epoxy coating on the steel substrate. The suitable ratio of HT and modifiers was investigated and the suitable content of modified HT in epoxy matrix was found based on mechanical properties of the epoxy-based coating. The characteristics of modified HT were assessed through infrared (IR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA), water contact angle (WCA), dynamic light scattering (DLS). Detailly, HT-TA3-S3 shows good stability in distilled water when HT/TA was modified with TMSPM which makes Zeta potential decreases significantly. Besides, SEM analysis presented HT-TA-S has a cylindrical shape about of 500 nm. Moreover, the crystallite size of HT/TA after being modified by TMSPM decreases sharply. All of these prove successfully synthesize HT loading TA with modified TMSPM. Water contact angle (WCA) decreases in case of loading TA and increases in case of modifying with TMSPM (WCA changed from HT (116.3°) to HT-TA (102.4°) and HT-TA-S (120.1°) which indicates the increased hydrophobicity of the sample. The obtained results showed HT/TA was modified successfully with TMSPM. The modification affected the size distribution and surface properties of HT nanoparticles while it did not impact on the crystal structure of HT. After incorporating modified HT/TA into the epoxy coating, the adhesion of coating to steel substrate was improved significantly. Consequently, the adhesion of epoxy/3 wt. % modified HT/TA coating was increased 3 times as compared to epoxy neat (from 0.76 MPa to 2.77 MPa). In addition, the relative hardness and gloss retention of epoxy/3 wt. % modified HT/TA coating reached the maximum values as compared to the others. Owing to salt spraying results, the epoxy/3 wt. % modified HT/TA exhibited an excellent anticorrosion ability for the steel substrate. Male infertility is a multifactorial disease due to spermatogenesis impairment, with etiology remaining unknown for roughly one-third of infertile cases. Several studies have demonstrated that genetic variants are male infertility risk factors. CFAP43 and TEX14 are involved in the spermatogenesis process. The present study aimed to assess the association between single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in CFAP43 (rs17116635 and rs10883979) and TEX14 (rs79813370 and rs34818467) and idiopathic male infertility in a Vietnamese population. A cohort of 206 infertile men and 195 controls were recruited for the study. CFAP43 and TEX14 SNPs were genotyped using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). Genotypes of randomly selected samples, accounting for 10% of the total, were confirmed using Sanger sequencing. The obtained data were analyzed using statistical methods. The results showed that 4 SNPs (rs17116635, rs10883979, rs79813370, and rs34818467) were in accordance with Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE; P > .05). CFAP43 rs10883979 and TEX14 rs79813370 were associated with male infertility. For CFAP43 rs10883979, in the recessive model, the combination AA + AG was associated with male infertility when compared to the GG genotype (OR = 0.26; 95% CI: 0.06-0.85; P = .02). For TEX14 rs79813370, a protective effect against infertility risk was identified in the presence of the T allele of rs79813370 when compared to the G allele (OR = 0.48; 95% CI: 0.32-0.72; P < .001). Background/Objectives : Optimal infant and young child feeding (IYCF) practices are crucial to addressing the double burden of malnutrition (DBM), encompassing undernutrition (including micronutrient deficiencies) and overnutrition. This study examined the demographic and socioeconomic determinants of IYCF practices, and their impacts on the DBM among 2039 Vietnamese children aged 6-23 months from the General Nutrition Survey 2020. Methods: Thirteen IYCF indicators recommended by the WHO/UNICEF were evaluated. Associations between IYCF indicators and outcome variables were assessed using logistic regressions. Results: The prevalence of stunting, underweight, and overweight subjects was 10.9%, 5.6%, and 3.1%, respectively. Low serum zinc affected 56.7% of children, while 14.3% had low serum retinol, 31.2% had anemia, and 34.6% had iron deficiency (ID). Only 36.7% of children achieved minimum dietary diversity (MDD), and 29.0% achieved the minimum acceptable diet (MAD). Children from the younger age group (6-11 months), ethnic minorities, those living in rural/mountainous regions, and poorer wealth quintiles had reduced odds of meeting IYCF criteria, including MDD and MAD. Infants meeting MDD had reduced odds of stunting [adjusted odds ratio (95% confidence intervals): 0.61 (0.41, 0.92)], and ID [0.69 (0.54, 0.88)]. Children meeting MAD had reduced odds of anemia [0.72 (0.57, 0.91)], ID [0.66 (0.52, 0.84)], and low serum retinol [0.63 (0.41, 0.99)]. Continued breastfeeding (12-23 months) reduced the odds of being underweight [0.50 (0.27, 0.92)] and of having low serum zinc [0.70 (0.52, 0.96)]. Adequate minimum milk feeding frequency had increased odds of being overweight [3.33 (1.01, 11.09)]. Conclusions: Suboptimal IYCF practices were significant predictors of the DBM among Vietnamese children, with evident age-specific, geographical, and socioeconomic disparities.

Background: Children's rapid growth requires adequate nutrient intake, with breakfast, especially when incorporating dairy, playing an important role. This study examined associations between dairy consumption at breakfast and energy and nutrient intake among children in Southeast Asia., Methods: Utilizing the cross-sectional South East Asian Nutrition Surveys II dataset, using a 24 h dietary recall and questionnaires distributed among 10,286 children aged 2 to 12 years from Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, we investigated the impact of dairy consumption at breakfast on nutrient intake and examined associations between breakfast consumption and the prevalence of stunting and overweight/obesity among 10,135 children., Results: Although most of the children consumed breakfast, only 37%, 27%, 16%, and 18% in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, respectively, included dairy in this meal, with younger children being significantly more likely to consume dairy at breakfast ( p < 0.001). Dairy consumers had significantly higher intakes of vitamins A, B 12 , and D and calcium both at breakfast and throughout the day ( p < 0.001). Breakfast skippers had a 29% increased risk of being overweight/obese., Conclusions: Dairy consumption at breakfast was associated with enhanced nutrient intake and overall diet quality among Southeast Asian children. The association between breakfast habits and anthropometric outcomes highlights the need to address nutritional deficiencies and promote healthy growth and development.

Purpose: Staphylococcus aureus , including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) strain, can become resistant to all classes of clinically available antibiotics and causes skin infections and severe infections in the lungs, heart, and bloodstream. The study aimed to evaluate antimicrobial susceptibility patterns and MRSA exhibiting multidrug resistance obtained through a microbiological culture of clinical specimens at Bac Ninh Provincial General Hospital in Bac Ninh Province, Vietnam., Methods: We employed a cross-sectional analysis at Bac Ninh Provincial General Hospital in Vietnam. 15,232 clinical samples from inpatients were examined. S. aureus isolates were identified using established protocols and tested for MRSA and antibiotic susceptibility. Data was analyzed using R software, with statistical calculations to assess associations between variables., Results: Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from 417 samples (2.7%), with 77.2% being MRSA and 22.8% methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus (MSSA). Significant sources of MRSA were wounds (64.6%) and the surgical unit (50%) according to sample types and hospital wards, respectively. S. aureus showed high resistance rates, the highest being azithromycin (83.2%), and was fully susceptible to vancomycin. Antibiotic tolerance in Mycobacterium tuberculosis reduces bacterial killing, worsens treatment outcomes, and contributes to resistance. We studied rifampicin tolerance in isolates with or without isoniazid resistance (IR). Using a minimum duration of killing assay, we measured rifampicin survival in isoniazid-susceptible (IS, n=119) and resistant (IR, n=84) isolates, correlating tolerance with bacterial growth, rifampicin minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs), and isoniazid-resistant mutations. Longitudinal IR isolates were analyzed for changes in rifampicin tolerance and genetic variant emergence. The median time for rifampicin to reduce the bacterial population by 90% (MDK90) increased from 1.23 days (IS) and 1.31 days (IR) to 2.55 days (IS) and 1.98 days (IR) over 15-60 days of incubation, indicating fast and slow-growing tolerant sub-populations. A 6 log10-fold survival fraction classified tolerance as low, medium, or high, showing that IR is linked to increased tolerance and faster growth (OR = 2.68 for low vs. medium, OR = 4.42 for low vs. high, p-trend = 0.0003). High tolerance in IR isolates was associated with rifampicin treatment in patients and genetic microvariants. Background: Vietnam is facing a double burden of malnutrition, with increasing prevalence of overweight coexisting with undernutrition (stunting and/or thinness) and micronutrient deficiencies (MNDs). Although malnutrition during female adolescence leads to poor health outcomes with potential intergenerational effects on offspring, no studies have comprehensively investigated MNDs and nutritional status among contemporary Vietnamese female adolescents., Methods: Data from 10- to 18-year-old female participants (n = 1471) in the nationally-representative Vietnam General Nutrition Survey 2020 were analysed. Blood nutritional biomarkers, anthropometric measurements, and sociodemographic data were collected, and associations between nutrition status and MNDs were analysed; with anaemia, iron deficiency (ID), iron deficiency anaemia, low serum zinc, low serum retinol, and any MNDs as specified outcomes., Findings: Prevalence of overweight, stunting, and thinness was 27.2%, 14.3%, and 6.9%, respectively. Low serum zinc was common (39.8%), as was ID (13.4%). Bivariate analyses showed that older age (16-18 years old), ethnic minority status, lower wealth index, and inflammation were associated with MNDs. In adjusted logistic regressions, stunting was associated with increased odds ratio and [95% confidence intervals] of low serum retinol (8.92 [2.26, 35.15], p < 0.01), as was thinness (12.25 [3.47, 43.33], p < 0.01). Stunting was also associated with increased odds of having any MND (2.06 [1.31, 3.25], p < 0.01)., Interpretation: More female adolescents were overweight than undernourished in Vietnam in 2020. However, undernutrition, low serum zinc, and ID remain prevalent. This was a cross-sectional study on the availability of laboratory infrastructure and capacity for the diagnosis of invasive fungal diseases in 24 public hospitals in Vietnam in 2023. Among the hospitals surveyed, 66.7% (14/21) had specialized personnel assigned for mycology testing, and 95.8% (23/24) had a separate microbiology laboratory space. Microscopy and culture methods are available in nearly all laboratories for isolate identification. Antifungal susceptibility testing is only performed for yeasts in 16/24 (66.7%) laboratories. Non-culture methods are hardly used in laboratories. Strengthening local laboratory capacities is essential to meeting health needs in these endemic regions., (© The Author(s) 2024. Sprouted rough rice (SR) is not commly used for poultry diets but it could be a potential replacement ingredient to improve nutritional value of feed. This study aimed to evaluate the growth performance, carcass quality, blood lipids, hepatic enzymes, and fatty acid profiles of broiler meat when corn was replaced with sprouted rough rice in the feed. A completely randomized design was used with four groups and six replicate groups with 10 birds per replicate. The 4 treatment groups were 0, 15, 40 and 45 % sprouted-rice-replacement of corn. Growth performance and carcass quality were highest when corn was replaced with 45 % SR ( p  < 0.05). In particular, live weight and body weight gain increased linearly with increasing SR inclusion, whereas feed conversion ratio and feed intake linearly decreased with increasing SR ( p  < 0.05). Carcass, thigh, and breast weights showed the same trend of increase ( p  < 0.05). In addition, the pH of the thigh meat was significantly higher in diet with 45 % SR than in the other treatment groups. With increasing SR content, the weight of immune organs linearly increased, particularly the thymus and spleen ( p  < 0.05). Additionally, the fatty acids examined including saturated fatty acids, unsaturated fatty acid, transfat were mostly highest when 30 or 45 % of corn was replaced with SR and linearly increased from 0 to 45 % of SR. There were no significant differences of linear relationships with cooking loss, or blood lipid and hepatic enzyme profiles between treatments ( p  > 0.05). CuCoFe-LDO/BCD was successfully synthesized from CuCoFe-LDH and biochar derived from durian shell (BCD). Ciprofloxacin (CFX) degraded more than 95% mainly by O 2 •- and 1 O 2 in CuCoFe-LDO/BCD(2/1)/PMS system within 10 min with a rate constant of 0.255 min -1 , which was 14.35 and 2.66 times higher than those in BCD/PMS and CuCoFe-LDO/PMS systems, respectively. The catalytic system exhibited good performance over a wide pH range (3-9) and high degradation efficiency of other antibiotics. Built-in electric field (BIEF) driven by large difference in the work function/Fermi level ratio between CuCoFe-LDO and BCD accelerated continuous electron transfer from CuCoFe-LDO to BCD to result in two different microenvironments with opposite charges at the interface, which enhanced PMS adsorption and activation via different directions. As a non-radical, 1 O 2 was mainly generated via PMS activation by C=O in BCD. The presence of C=O in BCD resulted in an increase in atomic charge of C in C=O and redistributed the charge density of other C atoms. As a result, strong adsorption of PMS at C atom in C=O and other C with a high positive charge was favorable for 1 O 2 generation, whereas an enhanced adsorption of PMS at negatively charged C accounted for the generation of • OH and SO 4 •- . After adsorption, electrons in C of BCD became deficient and were fulfilled with those transferred from CuCoFe-LDO driven by BIEF, which ensured the high catalytic activity of CuCoFe-LDO/BCD. O 2 •- , on the other hand, was generated via several pathways that involved in the transformation of • OH and SO 4 •- originated from PMS activation by the transition of metal species in CuCoFe-LDO and negatively charged C in BCD. Pretilachlor and safener fenclorim are the main components of herbicides widely applied to control weeds. Although some pure cultures of bacteria and fungi which degraded these compounds under aerobic conditions were isolated, no isolated pretilachlor- and fenclorim-degrading bacterial strains under anaerobic condition had been available. In this study, the degradation of these compounds and the effects of them on bacterial community structures were investigated under anaerobic conditions. The dissipation rates of pretilachlor and fenclorim in slurries were in the order: soil from paddy field ≈ sediment from river > sediment from mangrove. Moreover, three pretilachlor-degrading bacterial strains (Pseudomonas sp. Pr1, Proteiniclasticum sp. Pr2 and Paracoccus denitrificans Pr3) and two fenclorim-degrading strains (Dechloromonas sp. Fe1 and Ralstonia pickettii Fe2) isolated from a slurry of paddy soil utilized the substrates as sole carbon and energy sources under anaerobic conditions. The degradation of pure pretilachlor and fenclorim at various concentrations by corresponding mixed pure cultures followed the Michaelis-Menten model, with the maximum degradation was 3.10 ± 0.31 µM/day for pretilachlor, and 2.08 ± 0.18 µM/day for fenclorim. During the degradation, 2-chloro-N-(2,6-diethylphenyl) acetamide and 2,6-dimethylaniline were produced in pretilachlor degradation, and benzene was a product of fenclorim degradation. The synergistic degradation of both substrates by all isolated bacteria reduced the metabolites concentrations accumulated in media. Hydrotalcite-silver (HT-Ag) nanoparticles have been involved in various daily crucial applications, such as antibacterial, photocatalytic, adsorption, etc. There are many approaches to synthesizing silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) decorated on hydrotalcite (HT) surface and the most used approach is using a strong reducing agent. Thus, affordable but effective "green" reducing agents - Syzygium nervosum leaf extract, are taken into account in this work to solve several issues related to chemical reducing agents. This work aimed to assess the effect of Syzygium nervosum leaf extract as a reducing agent for green synthesis of AgNPs on HT through an optimizing process using response surface methodology (RSM) and the Box-Benken model. The optimal conditions for the synthesis of AgNPs on HT include a reaction time of 6.15 hours, a reaction temperature of 50 °C, and the ratio of diluted Syzygium nervosum leaf extract to reduce AgNO 3 of 50.37 mL/mg. Under the optimal conditions, the yield of the reduction reaction reached 77.54 %, close to the theoretical value of 76.97 %. The optimization model was suitable for the experiment data. Besides, the morphology, density, and characteristics of AgNPs on the surface of HT layers have been determined by using Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy, Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), selected area diffraction, X-ray diffraction, Dynamic light scattering (DLS), Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, Fluorescence emission spectroscopy (FE), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) methods. The spherical AgNPs were synthesized successfully on the surface of HT with the average particle size of 13.0±1.1 nm. Interestingly, HT-Ag hybrid materials can inhibit strongly the growth of E. coli, S. aureus as well as two antibiotic resistance bacterial strains, P. stutzeri B27, and antibiotic resistance E. coli. Especially, the antibacterial activity quantification and durability of the HT-Ag hybrid materials were also tested. Introduction: Childhood undernutrition is associated with increased morbidity, mortality and a high socio-economic burden., Methods: S upporting P ediatric G R owth and Health OUT comes (SPROUT) is a randomized, controlled trial evaluating the effects of an oral nutritional supplement (ONS) with dietary counseling (DC; n  = 164) compared to a DC-only group who continued consuming their habitual milk ( n  = 166; NCT05239208). Children aged 24-60 months who were at risk or with undernutrition, as defined by weight-for-age [WAZ] < -1 and height-for-age [HAZ] < -1 according to the WHO Growth Standards, and who also met the criterion of weight-for-height [WHZ] < 0, were enrolled in Vietnam., Results: ONS + DC had a larger WAZ increase at day 120 (primary endpoint) vs. DC (least squares mean, LSM (SE): 0.30 (0.02) vs. 0.13 (0.02); p  < 0.001), and larger improvements in all weight, BMI and weight-for-height indices at day 30 and 120 (all p  < 0.01). Height gain was larger in ONS + DC in all indices, including height-for-age difference [HAD; cm: 0.56 (0.07) vs. 0.10 (0.07); p  < 0.001], at day 120. Austronesian (AN) is the second-largest language family in the world, particularly widespread in Island Southeast Asia (ISEA) and Oceania. In Mainland Southeast Asia (MSEA), groups speaking these languages are concentrated in the highlands of Vietnam. However, our knowledge of the spread of AN-speaking populations in MSEA remains limited; in particular, it is not clear if AN languages were spread by demic or cultural diffusion. In this study, we present and analyze new data consisting of complete mitogenomes from 369 individuals and 847 Y-chromosomal single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) from 170 individuals from all five Vietnamese Austronesian groups (VN-AN) and five neighboring Vietnamese Austroasiatic groups (VN-AA). We found genetic signals consistent with matrilocality in some, but not all, of the VN-AN groups. Population affinity analyses indicated connections between the AN-speaking Giarai and certain Taiwanese AN groups (Rukai, Paiwan, and Bunun). However, overall, there were closer genetic affinities between VN-AN groups and neighboring VN-AA groups, suggesting language shifts. In the treatment of bowel diseases such as ulcerative colitis through oral administration, an effective drug delivery system targeting the colon is crucial for enhancing efficacy and minimizing side effects of therapeutic agents. This study focuses on the development of a novel nanocomposite hydrogel bead comprising a synergistic blend of biological macromolecules, namely sodium alginate (ALG) and hyaluronic acid (HA), reinforced with layered double hydroxide nanoparticles (LDHs) for the oral delivery of dual therapeutics. The synthesized hydrogel bead exhibits significantly enhanced gel strength and controllable release of methylprednisolone (MP) and curcumin (CUR), serving as an anti-inflammatory drug and a mucosal healing agent, compared to native ALG or ALG/HA hydrogel beads without LDHs. The physicochemical properties of the synthesized LDHs and hydrogel beads were characterized using various techniques, including scanning electron microscopy, zeta potential measurement, transmission electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. In vitro release studies of MP and CUR under simulated gastrointestinal tract (GIT) conditions demonstrate the superior controlled release property of the nanocomposite hydrogel bead, particularly in minimizing premature drug release in the upper GIT environment while sustaining release of over 82 % of drugs in the colonic environment. Background: Secondhand smoke (SHS) has detrimental effects on community health, including coronary heart diseases, stroke, lung cancer etc. This manuscript exploited data from the Vietnam Population-based Provincial Global Adult Tobacco Survey (PGATS) in 2022 to update the prevalence of adult exposure to SHS and associated socio-demographic factors. Methods: With the sample size of 71,981 adults aged 15+ throughout 30 provinces and cities in Vietnam, data was collected using the Global Adult Tobacco Survey (GATS) questionnaire. Bivariate analysis and multivariate logistic regression modelling were performed. Results: In the past 30 days, 44.4% (95% CI: 44.0%-44.9%) adults aged 15+ exposed to SHS at home while 23.1% (95% CI: 22.6%-23.6%) exposed to SHS at work. Female exposure to SHS in the past 30 days was higher at homes but lower at indoor workplaces. Participants aged 15-24 were likely to have higher odds of SHS exposure in the past 30 days to other age groups. Those living in the urban areas had 1.15 times higher odds (95% CI: 1.08-1.22) of exposure to SHS than those in the rural areas. Current smokers tended to have 2.2 times higher odds of exposure to SHS at the indoor workplaces compared to non-smokers (95% CI: 2.05-2.37). Conclusions: The prevalence of exposure to SHS at home was still relatively high amongst the adult population. While there was a significant reduction of SHS exposure at indoor workplaces, there was a higher prevalence of women being exposed to SHS at home. Objective: SEANUTS II Vietnam aims to obtain an in-depth understanding of the nutritional status and nutrient intake of children between 0·5 and 11·9 years old., Design: Cross-sectional survey., Setting: A multistage cluster systematic random sampling method was implemented in different regions in Vietnam: North Mountainous, Central Highlands, Red River Delta, North Central and Coastal Area, Southeast and Mekong River Delta., Participants: 4001 children between 6 months and 11·9 years of age., Results: The prevalence of stunting and underweight was higher in rural than in urban children, whereas overweight and obese rates were higher in urban areas. 12·0 % of the children had anaemia and especially children 0·5–1 year old were affected (38·6 %). Low serum retinol was found in 6·2 % of children ≥ 4 years old. The prevalence of vitamin D insufficiency was 31·1 % while 60·8 % had low serum Zn. For nutrient intake, overall, 80·1 % of the children did not meet the estimated energy requirements. For Ca intake, ∼60 % of the younger children did not meet the RNI while it was 92·6 % in children >7 years old. For vitamin D intake, 95·0 % of the children did not meet recommended nutrient intakes., Conclusions: SEANUTS II Vietnam indicated that overnutrition was more prevalent than undernutrition in urban areas, while undernutrition was found more in rural areas. The high prevalence of low serum Zn, vitamin D insufficiency and the inadequate intakes of Ca and vitamin D are of concern. Nutrition strategies for Vietnamese children should consider three sides of malnutrition and focus on approaches for the prevention of malnutrition.

With the development of Computer Vision, we can effectively and accurately identify trees, fruit or object images. But to build a high-performance image dataset for tree identification problems in Agriculture is a challenge. Realizing that Vietnam is a country with strong agriculture with many tropical fruits grown widely such as Dragon fruit, Mangosteen, Mango, Orange, Lychee, Longan … We chose the Dragon Fruit tree for the data set. of my proposed images, all images will be collected using the close-up method, including tasks such as taking photos of Dragon Fruit trees from many angles and in different conditions (weather, temperature, light, …). In this article, we want to improve the data quality of the collected images so we have applied image processing techniques such as noise filtering (using Gaussian filter), image quality enhancement (image rotation), flip the image, zoom out, zoom in, etc.). The diversity of clinical manifestations in COVID-19 has been observed not only among individuals but also among various populations in globally. HLA molecules play a central role in physiology, protective immunity, and deleterious, disease-related autoimmune reactivity or overreaction. This study exploited the association between HLA frequencies and SARS-CoV-2 susceptibility and disease severity among the Vietnamese cohort (159 patients and 52 controls). A significant difference in frequency of both HLA class I and II in mild, moderate, and severe/fatal COVID-19 patients and negative exposure individuals - the controls were observed. Regarding SARS-CoV-2 sensitivity, HLA-A*03:01, 30:01, HLA-DQA1*01:02, DRB1*15:01, and DRB5*02:02 presented higher frequency in the control group compared with infected patients but DRB1 09:01 frequency was higher in infected patients. Regarding COVID-19 severity, HLA-F*01:01, 01:03 and DPA1*01:03 and 02:01, DPB1*04:01, DQA1*01:02, and DQB1*05:02 alleles were detected with higher frequency in severe patients but DOB*01:01, DRB1*05:01 and 09:01 had a significantly higher frequency in the mild group than remaining groups. Surprisingly, HLA-DQA1*01:02 and DRB1*09:01 alleles were identified with both inversely potential roles in protective function and severe risk. Lightweight biobased insulation polyurethane (BPU) composite foams with high fire-resistance efficiency are interested in building effective energy and low environmental impact today. This study focuses on manufacturing lightweight BPU from liquefied bamboo polyols and biomass resources, including rice husk and wood flour. Then, they are combined with three flame retardant (FR) additives, such as aluminum diethyl phosphinate, aluminum trihydroxide, and diammonium phosphate, to improve their fire resistance performance. The physicochemical properties, microstructure, thermal stability, mechanical properties, and flame-retardant properties of the BPU composites are characterized to optimize their compromise properties. The results showed that composites with optimized FRs achieved UL94 V-0 and those with nonoptimized FRs reached UL94 HB. The limiting oxygen index exhibited that the fire resistance of BPU composites could increase up to 21-37% within FR additives. In addition, the thermal stability of BPU composites was significantly improved in a temperature range of 300-700 °C and the compressive strength of the BPU composites was also enhanced with the presence of FRs. The scanning electron microscopy observation showed an influence of FRs on the morphology and cell size of the BPU composites. The biomaterials based on chitosan and Eclipta prostrata L. extract have been prepared by microemulsion method and solution method (with and without sodium tripolyphosphate (STPP) as a cross-linking agent). The main component in Eclipta prostrata L. extract is flavonoid groups. The structure of the chitosan/extract biomaterials was studied by infrared spectroscopy. The chitosan/extract biomaterial using STPP cross-linker appeared an absorption band at 1152 cm -1 attributed to the vibrations of C-O-P bonds, which proved that chitosan has crosslinked with STPP. The morphology of the biomaterials was investigated by the dynamic light scattering technique and field emission scanning electron microscopy. The obtained results showed that the particle size of the chitosan/extract biomaterials prepared by microemulsion method and solution method with STPP ranged from 68.06 nm to 1484 nm, with an average particle size of 304.9-1019 nm. The microemulsion method produced biomaterials with much smaller average particle size than the solution method using cross-linkers. The hemostatic ability of the biomaterials was better than that of the control sample based on the time of blood clotting formation and glomerular aggregation ability. The sample with the ratio of E. prostrata L. extract: chitosan of 1:30 had the lowest hemostasis time (6 min 46 s) and its glomerular aggregation rate after 5 min was 13.05%. In emergency cases such as disasters, supplying enough safe drinking water is one of the most urgent needs for human life. This research aimed to develop a chemical- and electricity-free drinking water treatment system based on microfiltration and catalysts of Ag and Ag-TiO 2 -SiO 2 coated on glass spheres in both dark and sunlight conditions. The system was applied to treat raw water samples taken from five rivers in Vietnam, simulated floodwater samples with high turbidity and E. coli concentration, and real flooding water samples. The results showed the filtration unit fed with simulated floodwater generated lower fluxes and shorter working durations before chemical cleaning than that fed with normal river water. However, filtrate quality was not significantly different for these five water samples with very low values of turbidity (0-0.66 NTU), total coliform (5-19 CFU (100 mL) -1 ), and E. coli (0-17 CFU (100 mL) -1 ). The catalyst units using glass spheres coated with either Ag in dark and sunlight or Ag-TiO 2 -SiO 2 under sunlight can completely remove E. coli and coliform as well as additionally mitigate natural organic matters. This study hence suggests the combination of microfiltration and Ag-based catalytic treatment for safe drinking water supply in emergencies, especially for flooding conditions.

In this study, CoCr layered double hydroxide material (CoCr-LDH) was prepared and used as an effective catalyst for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation to degrade organics in water. The prepared CoCr-LDH material had a crystalline structure and relatively porous structure, as determined by various surface analyses. In Rhodamine B (RhB) removal, the most outstanding PMS activation ability belongs to the material with a Co:Cr molar ratio of 2:1. The removal of RhB follows pseudo-first-order kinetics (R 2 > 0.99) with an activation energy of 38.23 kJ/mol and efficiency of 98% after 7 min of treatment, and the total organic carbon of the solution reduced 47.2% after 10 min. The activation and oxidation mechanisms were proposed and the RhB degradation pathways were suggested with the key contribution of O 2 •- and 1 O 2 . Notably, CoCr-LDH can activate PMS over a wide pH range of 4 - 9, and apply to a wide range of organic pollutants and aqueous environments. The material has high stability and good recovery, which can be reused for 5 cycles with a stable efficiency of above 88%, suggesting a high potential for practical recalcitrant water treatment via PMS activation by heterogeneous catalysts., (© 2024. Plant genomes contain numerous genes encoding chitinase-like (CTL) proteins, which have a similar protein structure to chitinase belonging to the glycoside hydrolase (GH) family but lack the chitinolytic activity to cleave the β -1,4-glycosidic bond in chitins, polymers of N -acetylglucosamine. CTL1 mutations found in rice and Arabidopsis have caused pleiotropic developmental defects, including altered cell wall composition and decreased abiotic stress tolerance, likely due to reduced cellulose content. In this study, we identified suppressor of hot2 1 ( suh1 ) as a genetic suppressor of the ctl1 hot2-1 mutation in Arabidopsis . The mutation in SUH1 restored almost all examined ctl1 hot2-1 defects to nearly wild-type levels or at least partially. SUH1 encodes a Golgi-located type II membrane protein with glycosyltransferase (GT) activity, and its mutations lead to a reduction in cellulose content and hypersensitivity to cellulose biosynthesis inhibitors, although to a lesser extent than ctl1 hot2-1 mutation. The SUH1 promoter fused with the GUS reporter gene exhibited GUS activity in interfascicular fibers and xylem in stems; meanwhile, the ctl1 hot2-1 mutation significantly increased this activity. Background: The increased number of cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) as a zoonosis has raised concerns in terms of poultry and human health. Farmers' preventive practices are an effective way of reducing zoonosis. However, this practice may have been affected by many factors, including production behaviors, awareness, and farmers' perceptions of farmers toward zoonosis., Aim: This study was conducted on 166 poultry farms in Tra Vinh Province with 14,894 poultry heads to determine the socioeconomic profiles and production characteristics of poultry farms and analyze the effect of these factors on HPAI vaccination practices., Methods: Respondents were selected from lists provided by government officers. Descriptive statistics were used to describe all variables, and factors affecting HPAI vaccination practices were analyzed using binary regression analysis., Results: The results showed that most farmers raised poultry with other livestock using the free-range method, which is a semi-intensive system. The primary objectives of poultry farming are meat sales and augmenting household consumption, with farmers primarily raising chicks produced on their farms. The implementation of the vaccine was less than 50% on the surveyed farms, with a small number of farmers administering an HPAI booster dose. However, only 6% of the farmers confirmed that their livestock had been exposed to HPAI. In addition, HPAI vaccination and booster dose practices significantly increased when farmers had 4-6 family members and received HPAI prevention training. Moreover, increased poultry numbers have led to increased vaccination rates and the implementation of booster doses for poultry. Uranyl ammonium carbonate (AUC), with the chemical formula UO 2 CO 3 ·2(NH 4 ) 2 CO 3 , plays a crucial role in the wet conversion of uranium hexafluoride (UF 6 ) into uranium dioxide (UO 2 ) or triuranium octaoxide (U 3 O 8 ) for nuclear fuel production, and is used in commercial and research reactors. In this study, the precipitation of AUC from uranyl fluoride (UO 2 F 2 ) solution and its subsequent conversion into U 3 O 8 powder were investigated. AUC precipitation was performed at uranium concentrations in UO 2 F 2 solution of 80-120 gL -1 , ammonium carbonate (NH 4 ) 2 CO 3 concentrations of 200-400 gL -1 , and (NH 4 ) 2 CO 3 to U (C/U) ratios of 5-9. The conversion of AUC into U 3 O 8 powder was studied and sintering of the U 3 O 8 nuclear material derived from ammonium uranyl carbonate (ex-AUC U 3 O 8 ) was conducted at temperatures of 1000-1800 °C. The kinetics of AUC precipitation from the UO 2 F 2 solution were studied using fundamental kinetic equations, and the kinetics of AUC conversion into UO 3 were examined using an isoconversion method based on the thermogravimetric analysis of AUC. The final product of U 3 O 8 nuclear material was characterized using typical techniques, such as thermogravimetric analysis, X-ray diffraction, and scanning electron microscopy. Rotavin-M1 (POLYVAC) was licensed in Vietnam in 2012. The association of Rotavin-M1 with intussusception, a rare adverse event associated with rotavirus vaccines, and with adverse events following immunization (AEFI) have not been evaluated and monitored under conditions of routine use. From February 2017 to May 2021, we conducted a pilot introduction of Rotavin-M1 into the routine vaccination program in two provinces. Surveillance for intussusception was conducted at six sentinel hospitals. AEFI reports at 30 min and 7 days after vaccination were recorded. Among 443 children <12 months of age admitted for intussusception, most (92.3%) were children ≥ 6 months. Of the 388 children who were age-eligible to receive Rotavin-M1, 116 (29.9%) had received ≥1 dose. No intussusception cases occurred in the 1-21 days after dose 1 and one case occurred on day 21 after dose 2. Among the 45,367 children who received ≥1 dose of Rotavin-M1, 9.5% of children reported at least one AEFI after dose 1 and 7.3% after dose 2. Significantly higher AEFI rates occurred among children given Rotavin-M1 with pentavalent vaccines (Quinvaxem ® , ComBE Five ® ) compared to Rotavin-M1 without pentavalent vaccines. There was no association between intussusception and Rotavin-M1. The vaccine was generally safe when administered alone and when co-administered with other vaccines.

Background: Diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis (TBM) is hampered by the lack of a gold standard. Current microbiological tests lack sensitivity and clinical diagnostic approaches are subjective. We therefore built a diagnostic model that can be used before microbiological test results are known., Methods: We included 659 individuals aged [Formula: see text] years with suspected brain infections from a prospective observational study conducted in Vietnam. We fitted a logistic regression diagnostic model for TBM status, with unknown values estimated via a latent class model on three mycobacterial tests: Ziehl-Neelsen smear, Mycobacterial culture, and GeneXpert. We additionally re-evaluated mycobacterial test performance, estimated individual mycobacillary burden, and quantified the reduction in TBM risk after confirmatory tests were negative. We also fitted a simplified model and developed a scoring table for early screening. All models were compared and validated internally., Results: Participants with HIV, miliary TB, long symptom duration, and high cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) lymphocyte count were more likely to have TBM. HIV and higher CSF protein were associated with higher mycobacillary burden. In the simplified model, HIV infection, clinical symptoms with long duration, and clinical or radiological evidence of extra-neural TB were associated with TBM At the cutpoints based on Youden's Index, the sensitivity and specificity in diagnosing TBM for our full and simplified models were 86.0% and 79.0%, and 88.0% and 75.0% respectively., Conclusion: Our diagnostic model shows reliable performance and can be developed as a decision assistant for clinicians to detect patients at high risk of TBM. Mycotoxins produced by Fusarium species are secondary metabolites with low molecular weight formed by filamentous fungi generally resistant to different environmental factors and, therefore, undergo slow degradation. Contamination by Fusarium mycotoxins in cereals and millets is the foremost quality challenge the food and feed industry faces across the globe. Several types of chemical preservatives are employed in the mitigation process of these mycotoxins, and they help in long-term storage; however, chemical preservatives can be used only to some extent, so the complete elimination of toxins from foods is still a herculean task. The growing demand for green-labeled food drives to evade the use of chemicals in the production processes is getting much demand. Thus, the biocontrol of food toxins is important in the developing food sector. Fusarium mycotoxins are world-spread contaminants naturally occurring in commodities, food, and feed. The major mycotoxins Fusarium species produce are deoxynivalenol, fumonisins, zearalenone, and T2/HT2 toxins. Lactic acid bacteria (LAB), generally regarded as safe (GRAS), is a well-explored bacterial community in food preparations and preservation for ages. Recent research suggests that LAB are the best choice for extenuating Fusarium mycotoxins. Background: Anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK) mutations have been identified as a prominent cause of some familial and sporadic neuroblastoma (NB). ALK expression in NB and its relationship with clinical and histopathological features remains controversial. This study investigated ALK expression and its potential relations with these features in NB., Methods: Ninety cases of NB at the Department of Pathology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy at Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam from 01/01/2018 to 12/31/2021, were immunohistochemically stained with ALK (D5F3) antibody. The ALK expression and its relations with some clinical and histopathological features were investigated., Results: The rate of ALK expression in NB was 91.1%. High ALK expression (over 50% of tumor cells were positive with moderate-strong intensity) accounted for 65.6%, and low ALK expression accounted for 34.4%. All the MYCN-amplified NB patients had ALK immunohistochemistry positivity, most cases had high ALK protein expression. The undifferentiated subtype of NB had a lower ALK-positive rate than the poorly differentiated and differentiated subtype. The percentages of ALK positivity were significantly higher in more differentiated histological types of NB (p = .024). There was no relation between ALK expression and: age group, sex, primary tumor location, tumor stage, MYCN status, clinical risk, Mitotic-Karyorrhectic Index, prognostic group, necrosis, and calcification., Conclusions: ALK was highly expressed in NB. ALK expression was not related to several clinical and histopathological features. More studies are needed to elucidate the association between ALK expression and ALK gene status and to investigate disease progression, especially the oncogenesis of ALK-positive NB.

Several glycoproteins are validated biomarkers of various diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, chronic alcohol abuse, or congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG). In particular, CDG represent a group of more than 150 inherited diseases with varied symptoms affecting multiple organs. The distribution of glycans from target glycoprotein(s) can be used to extract information to help the diagnosis and possibly differentiate subtypes of CDG. Indeed, depending on the glycans and the proteins to which they are attached, glycans can play a very broad range of roles in both physical and biological properties of glycoproteins. For glycans in general, capillary electrophoresis with laser-induced fluorescence detection (CE-LIF) has become a staple. Analysis of glycans with CE-LIF requires several sample preparation steps, including release of glycans from the target glycoprotein, fluorescent labeling of glycans, and purification of labeled glycans. Here, we describe the protocol for glycan sample treatment in a microfluidic droplet system prior to CE-LIF of labeled glycans. This study investigates the corrosion resistance of Type 316 stainless steel as a candidate material for radioactive waste disposal canisters. The viability of stainless steel is examined under groundwater conditions with variations in pH, bisulfide ions (HS - ), and chloride ions (Cl - ) concentrations. Utilizing response surface methodology, correlations between corrosion factors and two crucial response variables, passive film breakdown potential and protection potential, are established. Cyclic potentiodynamic polarization tests and advanced analytical techniques provide detailed insights into the material's behavior. This research goes beyond, deriving an equation through response surface methodology that elucidates the relationship between the factors and breakdown potential. HS - weakens the passive film and reduces the pitting corrosion resistance of the stainless steel. However, this study highlights the inhibitory effect of HS - on pitting corrosion when Cl - concentrations are below 0.001 M and at equivalent concentrations of HS - . Under these conditions, immediate re-passivation occurs from the destroyed passive film to metal sulfides such as FeS 2 , MoS 2 , and MoS 3 . As a result, no hysteresis loop occurs in the cyclic polarization curve in these conditions. This research contributes to the understanding of Type 316 stainless-steel corrosion behavior, offering implications for the disposal of radioactive waste in geological repositories.
