Sintering resistant noble metal nanoparticles are critical to the development of advanced catalysts with high activity and stability. Herein, we reported the construction of highly dispersed Pd nanoparticles loaded at the inner wall of ZrO2 hollow spheres (Pd@HS-ZrO2), which shows improved activity and thermal stability over references in the Pd-ZrO2 (catalyst-support) system. Even after 800 °C high temperature calcination, the Pd nanoparticles and ZrO2 hollow spheres did not undergo morphological changes. The Pd@HS-ZrO2 manifests batter catalytic activity and thermal stability than the counterpart Pd/ZrO2 catalysts. In comparison to Pd/ZrO2-800, Pd@ZrO2-800 exhibits a 25°C reduction in the temperature required for complete conversion of CO. The enhanced catalytic activity and thermal stability of Pd@HS-ZrO2 can be attributed to the nanoconfinement effect offered by the 10 nm wall thickness of the ZrO2 hollow spheres, which suppresses the coarsening of the Pd nanoparticles (active center for catalysis). Developing efficient bifunctional electrocatalysts for both the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is crucial for the large-scale application of rechargeable zinc–air batteries. Perovskite oxides are attractive candidates as bifunctional electrocatalysts. Herein, Ln0.5Sr0.5CoO3-δ (Ln = La, Pr and Sm) was prepared by the sol-gel method and evaluated as bifunctional electrocatalysts for both ORR and OER. Compare with La0.5Sr0.5CoO3-δ (LSC) and Sm0.5Sr0.5CoO3-δ (SSC), Pr0.5Sr0.5CoO3-δ (PSC) demonstrated the enhanced catalytic activity towards ORR with the limiting current density of 4.19 mA cm−2 at 0.40 V vs. RHE and OER with the potential of 1.75 V vs. RHE at 10 mA cm−2 as well as the Tafel slope of 105 mV dec−1. The higher Co3+/Co2+ ratio in PSC played an essential part in boosting the bifunctional electrocatalytic activities for ORR and OER. For demonstration, rechargeable zinc–air batteries with PSC as the air electrode displayed the maximum power density of 72 mW cm−2, the low charge-discharge voltage gap (1.01 V) at 10 mA cm−2 over 80 cycles and outstanding cycling stability. The C@ZrSiO4 pigments offer a viable alternative to spinel black pigments, but they have poor tinting strength due to low encapsulation rate. The aggregate and irregular morphology limits their application. Herein, as a three‐in‐one solution for the above issues, we report a highly dispersed submicronic inclusion black pigment with deep dark hue by double‐shell reaction sintering method for the first time. The morphological advantage of spherical CSs (carbon spheres) @ZrSiO4 pigments has successfully stimulated a significant increase in chromatic performance with L* value of 13.58. In addition, the suspension stability of the pigments in solution was verified, and the effect of the order of double shell on the encapsulation efficiency was studied. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

No-precious bifunctional catalysts with high electrochemical activities and stability were crucial to properties of rechargeable zinc-air batteries. Herein, LaNiO3 modified with Ag nanoparticles (Ag/LaNiO3) was prepared by the co-synthesis method and evaluated as the bifunctional oxygen catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Compared with LaNiO3, Ag/LaNiO3 demonstrated the enhanced catalytic activity towards ORR/OER as well as higher limited current density and lower onset potential. Moreover, the potential gap between ORR potential (at −3 mA·cm−2) and OER potential (at 5 mA·cm−2) was 1.16 V. The maximum power density of the primary zinc-air battery with Ag/LaNiO3 catalyst achieved 60 mW·cm−2. Furthermore, rechargeable zinc-air batteries operated reversible charge-discharge cycles for 150 cycles without noticeable performance deterioration, which showed its excellent bifunctional activity and cycling stability as oxygen electrocatalyst for rechargeable zinc-air batteries. Cu2O sensitized ZnO nanorod array films were prepared on transparent conductive glass (FTO) by electrochemical deposition method. The microstructure, surface morphologies and photoelectric properties of Cu2O sensitized ZnO films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), X-ray energy spectrum (EDS) and electrochemical workstation (CHI601C). The results show that electrochemical deposition of Cu2O nanocrystals can be formed heterojunction with the ZnO nanorods and improve the photoelectric conversion efficiency of ZnO thin films. The photoelectric conversion efficiency of Cu2O sensitized ZnO nanorod films is the highest when the deposition time of Cu2O is 5 min. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
