Background: In Vietnam today, many generations remain living together in a family. With escalating urbanization and population aging, mental health disorders and the quality of life (QoL) among the elderly are gradually presenting themselves as of great concern. The objective of this study was to examine gender differences in QoL and some associated factors among the elderly in rural Vietnam using the QoL scale of WHO (WHOQOL-BREF). Methods: A cross-sectional study using quantitative methods. Results: The proportion of the elderly men having higher level of QoL in physical health, psychological health and environment was higher than that of their women counterparts. Reversely, of those having medium and lower QoL, females made up a larger proportion than males. The overall QoL score in elderly men (75.32) was higher than that of women (72.32) and the same pattern was witnessed in all four domains of QoL. While higher QoL in elderly men was significantly correlated with 5 factors, aged ≥80 years, following Buddhism and Christianity, having better connection and without illness in the past 6 months, these among female counterparts are aged ≥80 years, completing secondary level or above, having medium and high socioeconomic status and without illness in the last 6 months., Journal of Preventive Medicine and Hygiene, Vol 58, No 1 (2017): 2017581

BACKGROUND:tAlthough phase 3 LACC trials showed that minimally invasive radical hysterectomy in early stage cervical cancer was associated with lower rates of disease-free survival as well as overall survival than conventional laparotomic hysterectomy, this trial did not have enough power to be generalize to low risk patients. Therefore, laparoscopic radical hysterectomy is still be considered in that context. AIMS: tIn this study, we aimed to evaluate outcomes of laparoscopic approach for early stage cervical cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS: tThis was a retrospective trial. We review data of early stage cervical cancer who were underwent laparoscopic total hysterectomy at Oncology Hospital at Ho Chi Minh city from June 2016 to January 2019.RESULTS:tSeventy-five patients were enrolled in this study. Most of them (89.3%) were stage IB1 disease. Overall, the average of tumors diameter was 17 mm, the median time of the surgery was 190 minutes and the median of blood lost was 150 ml. The rate of surgical complications was 14.6% (11/75 patients). Among of them, 2 patients had vesicovaginal fistulas, 7 patients had ureteral perforations and 2 patients had rectal perforations. The median follow-up time was 12 months. The rate of pelvic recurrences was 2.6%. CONCLUSIONS:tLaparoscopic total hysterectomy in early stage cervical cancer is a safe approach in women with lowest-risk disease. It reduces the operative morbidity as well as increases the quality of life. However, the limit of our study was that the follow-up time was still short. Therefore, we will continue this study to explore the disease-free and overall survival rates.

In Southeast Asia, only in the last 20 years have seagrasses been a focus of sustained scientific inquiry. In parallel, only in the last 10 years, have they, as a discrete community, been subjected to any natural resource management. In the South China Sea region there has been a rapidly increasing rate of seagrass loss and decline. Loss of the beds in the region has been due largely to destructive fishing, such as push net, trawler, sedimentation from coastal development, wastewater effluents, and aquaculture. The economic return from seagrass beds in East Asia is very poorly known. To address these growing threats to seagrass and reverse the degradation trends in marine habitats, the UNEP/GEF South China Sea Project has, in part, promoted and established four Seagrass Demonstration Sites: one each in China, the Philippines, Cambodia, and Vietnam. These sites are helping translate into actions, the specific targets of the seagrass component of the project for management and conservation of seagrass ecosystems and biodiversity till 2012. These targets are: 1. Twenty one managed areas totaling 13,755 hectares in the South China Sea, with a minimum of two managed sites in each of the 7 participating countries, by 2012 2. Adoption at a high level and implementation of the provisions of the National Action Plans for Seagrass by all countries by 2012 3. Government recognition of the ecological importance of seagrass through amendment of the management plans for seven existing MPAs with significant areas of seagrass habitat, to include specific seagrass-related management actions by the year 2012 4. Adoption of seven new Marine Protected Areas specifically focusing on seagrass habitats by the year 2012 The compelling reasons why the four seagrass demonstration sites in the South China Sea are, indeed, milestones in seagrass research and coastal resource management in the region include: 1. They share what they do best 2. They develop a critical mass of trainers 3. They work through on-site actions, not through words 4. They are ‘life-laboratories’ 5. They are community-owned, hence, cared for 6. They are platforms for the science-management linkage

International audience; The aim of this work is to find sub-types for Place Named Entities, from the analysis of relations between Place Names and a nominal group within a specific phrasal context. The proposed method combines the use of specific intra-sentential lexico-syntactic relations and external resources like gazetteers, thesauri, or ontologies. It relies on expanded spatial named entities recognition transcribed into a symbolic representation expressed in terms of semantic features. This symbolic representation will then be associated with a geo-coded representation, depending on the available resources. Our method is completely implemented and has been tested on a corpus of travelogues.

International audience; This paper presents a work package realized for the GéOnto project. A new method is proposed for an enrichment of a first geographical ontology developed beforehand. This method relies on text analysis by lexico-syntactic patterns. From the retrieve of n-ary relations the method automatically detect those involved in a spatial and/or temporal relation in a context of a description of journeys.

8 pages; International audience; Nous proposons une approche, permettant à partir d'un modèle, d'extraire et d'interpréter des informations à connotation géographique à partir d'une analyse automatique d'un corpus de textes littéraires (récits de voyages dans les Pyrénées au XIXe siècle). Il s'agit de la combinaison d'une approche lexico-syntaxique permettant le marquage et l'interprétation d'expressions contenant au moins une entité nommée géographique avec une analyse grammaticale ciblée impliquant des verbes de déplacement (ou de perception) permettant le marquage d'expressions de mouvement et d'expressions spatiales. L'inventaire lexical obtenu à l'aide de cette démarche est ensuite exploité à des fins d'enrichissement d'une ontologie géographique construite par l'IGN.
