A study found significant differences in the time spent by women in caring for children, working, and household activities by gender and employment sector. Self-employed women for example, were found to spend the least time working but the most amount of time caring for children. It was also found that the greatest differences were on time spent on secondary child care activities.

Whilst it can be argued that home improvements are cyclical and largely informed by the 'wealth effect' as a function of the state of the housing market, this article turns its attention to homeowners and their participation in such activities. In particular it provides evidence of a progressive decline across the last decade in do-it-yourself (DIY) activity independent of fluctuations in house prices. Through an examination of the concept of 'time compression' the choice and selection of leisure activities, of which DIY was once a considered option, is identified as subject to heightened competition, with preference given to those that supply an immediate sense of gratification. As a consequence of this, the 'cash-rich time-poor' increasingly turn to tradesmen to realize their visions of domestic transformation, more interested in outcome than process; acceptability over authenticity. Furthermore, such changes in the temporal register also inform the search for and production of innovative television program formats that seek both to inspire and entertain. Consequently, this article argues, such programs deny the possibility of knowledge transfer for those still wishing to engage in DIY and subsequently force homeowners into being consumers rather than producers of their own material worlds. The prediction of performance time for construction projects is a problem of interest to both researchers and practitioners. This research seeks to gain insight into the significant factors impacting construction duration by developing a regression model. Data were collected for 856 facility projects completed between 1988 and 2004. These data were analyzed using Bromilow's time-cost (BTC) model (1969) as well as multiple linear regression. The multiple linear regression model was found to provide the most acceptable prediction. As in the BTC model and previous research reported in the literature, a significant correlation was found to exist between cost and duration. However, several other factors were also identified that resulted in significantly lower than average construction durations. These include projects completed within certain management groupings, managed by a certain construction agent, and designed by in-house personnel. Subject time allotment has become a major focus in the national search for organizing more effective instruction to improve the quality of learning. High school educators and administrators have been vocal in comparing the advantages and disadvantages of the traditional block schedule against the intensified block schedule. Some school officials have called for a master schedule reform as a step to increased learning. School administrators must also consider the impact of school day segmentation into time units on learning perspective.

Growing and widespread interest in time begs the need for time use data collection and reporting standards. Initial guidance for comparative work was provided by the Multinational Time Use Project. However, changing technologies, methodologies, and divergent data needs have given rise to the need for updated guidance. This paper, prepared with input from members of the International Association for Time Use Research, examines the history and applications of time use data, identifies and evaluates methodological options for time use studies, recommends options facilitating cross-national and cross-temporal comparability and identifies methodological challenges facing time use researchers. The study concludes that alternative collection methods appear to make little difference in the resulting activity and time use estimates at customary levels of reporting.

Data collected by survey methodology are sensitive to measurement errors. Factors of memory, understanding, and willingness to respond truthfully, distort the quality of results. In this paper, time diaries were used as a quality check for results obtained by direct interviews and questionnaires. Data is based on surveys carried out by Statistics Finland. Comparison showed that measurement error varied considerably between population groups, influencing dependencies and interpretations of the results. Activities clearly distinctive from other activities, such as gainful employment outside the home, produced the most accurate data in direct survey questions. Everyday activities that don't clearly stand out from other uses of time, such as home based employment, are difficult to recall and produce a lot of biasing measurement errors.

Time management has been a popular topic in management courses, seminars and books because time is a scarce resource which must be managed efficiently. To determine whether time is wasted on such activities as meetings and interdepartment coordination, time management consultants suggest tracking time spent on different activities through a time log. As data can be compressed, we inquire if time can also be compressed. In the context of manufacturing systems, time compression adopts such names as "concurrency" or "simultaneity." While it may be intuitively appealing that scaling (halving the size of a task, for example) should be linear (halving the time), such is not quite the case, as we have discovered. We report a quantitative explanation for the nonlinear behavior of time, as a function of the size of a task and the number of agents performing the task.
