Search

Short-period gas giant planets have been shown to be significantly rarer for host stars less massive than the Sun. We report the discovery of two transiting giant planets - TOI-2379 b and TOI-2384 b - with low-mass (early M) host stars. Both planets were detected using TESS photometry and for both the transit signal was validated using ground based photometric facilities. We confirm the planetary nature of these companions and measure their masses using radial velocity observations. We find that TOI-2379 b has an orbital period of 5.469 d and a mass and radius of $5.76\pm0.20$ M$_{J}$ and $1.046\pm0.023$ R$_{J}$ and TOI-2384 b has an orbital period of 2.136 d and a mass and radius of $1.966\pm0.059$ M$_{J}$ and $1.025\pm0.021$ R$_{J}$. TOI-2379 b and TOI-2384 b have the highest and third highest planet-to-star mass ratios respectively out of all transiting exoplanets with a low-mass host star, placing them uniquely among the population of known exoplanets and making them highly important pieces of the puzzle for understanding the extremes of giant planet formation., Comment: Accepted for publication in MNRAS. 15 pages, 12 figures

We report the discovery and validation of HD 21520 b, a transiting planet found with TESS and orbiting a bright G dwarf (V=9.2, $T_{eff} = 5871 \pm 62$ K, $R_{\star} = 1.04\pm 0.02\, R_{\odot}$). HD 21520 b was originally alerted as a system (TOI-4320) consisting of two planet candidates with periods of 703.6 and 46.4 days. However, our analysis supports instead a single-planet system with an orbital period of $25.1292\pm0.0001$ days and radius of $2.70 \pm 0.09\, R_{\oplus}$. Three full transits in sectors 4, 30 and 31 match this period and have transit depths and durations in agreement with each other, as does a partial transit in sector 3. We also observe transits using CHEOPS and LCOGT. SOAR and Gemini high-resolution imaging do not indicate the presence of any nearby companions, and MINERVA-Australis and CORALIE radial velocities rule out an on-target spectroscopic binary. Additionally, we use ESPRESSO radial velocities to obtain a tentative mass measurement of $7.9^{+3.2}_{-3.0}\, M_{\oplus}$, with a 3-$\sigma$ upper limit of 17.7 $M_{\oplus}$. Due to the bright nature of its host and likely significant gas envelope of the planet, HD 21520 b is a promising candidate for further mass measurements and for atmospheric characterization., Comment: Submitted to MNRAS

We present a dedicated transit and radial velocity survey of planets orbiting subgiant stars observed by the TESS Mission. Using $\sim$$16$ nights on Keck/HIRES, we confirm and characterize $12$ new transiting planets -- $\rm TOI-329\,b$, $\rm HD\,39688\,b$ ($\rm TOI-480$), $\rm TOI-603\,b$, $\rm TOI-1199\,b$, $\rm TOI-1294\,b$, $\rm TOI-1439\,b$, $\rm TOI-1605\,b$, $\rm TOI-1828\,b$, $\rm HD\,148193\,b$ ($\rm TOI-1836$), $\rm TOI-1885\,b$, $\rm HD\,83342\,b$ ($\rm TOI-1898$), $\rm TOI-2019\,b$ -- and provide updated properties for 9 previously confirmed TESS subgiant systems ($\rm TOI-197$, $\rm TOI-954$, $\rm TOI-1181$, $\rm TOI-1296$, $\rm TOI-1298$, $\rm TOI-1601$, $\rm TOI-1736$, $\rm TOI-1842$, $\rm TOI-2145$). We also report the discovery of an outer, non-transiting planet, $\rm TOI-1294\,c$ ($P=160.1\pm2.5$ days, $M_{\mathrm{p}}=148.3^{+18.2}_{-16.4} \,M_{\oplus}$), and three additional stars with long-term RV trends. We find that at least $19\pm8\%$ of subgiants in our sample of $21$ stars have outer companions, comparable to main-sequence stars. We perform a homogeneous analysis of the stars and planets in the sample, with median uncertainties of $3\%$, $8\%$ and $15\%$ for planet radii, masses and ages, doubling the number of known planets orbiting subgiant stars with bulk densities measured to better than $10\%$. We observe a dearth of giant planets around evolved stars with short orbital periods, consistent with tidal dissipation theories that predict the rapid inspiral of planets as their host stars leave the main sequence. We note the possible evidence for two distinct classes of hot Jupiter populations, indicating multiple formation channels to explain the observed distributions around evolved stars. We present and confirm TOI-1751 b, a transiting sub-Neptune orbiting a slightly evolved, solar-type, metal-poor star ($T_{eff} = 5996 \pm 110$ K, $log(g) = 4.2 \pm 0.1$, V = 9.3 mag, [Fe/H] = $-0.40 \pm 0.06$ dex) every 37.47 d. We use TESS photometry to measure a planet radius of $2.77_{-0.07}^{+0.15}~\rm{R_\oplus}$. We also use both Keck/HIRES and APF/Levy radial velocities (RV) to derive a planet mass of $14.5_{-3.14}^{+3.15} ~\rm{M_\oplus}$, and thus a planet density of $3.6 \pm 0.9 \, {\rm g}\,{\rm cm}^{-3}$. There is also a long-period ($\sim400~\rm{d}$) signal that is observed in only the Keck/HIRES data. We conclude that this long-period signal is not planetary in nature, and is likely due to the window function of the Keck/HIRES observations. This highlights the role of complementary observations from multiple observatories to identify and exclude aliases in RV data. Finally, we investigate potential compositions of this planet, including rocky and water-rich solutions, as well as theoretical irradiated ocean models. TOI-1751 b is a warm sub-Neptune, with an equilibrium temperature of $\sim 820$ K. As TOI-1751 is a metal-poor star, TOI-1751 b may have formed in a water-enriched formation environment. Large-scale exoplanet surveys like the TESS mission are powerful tools for discovering large numbers of exoplanet candidates. Single-transit events are commonplace within the resulting candidate list due to the unavoidable limitation of observing baseline. These single-transit planets often remain unverified due to their unknown orbital period and consequent difficulty in scheduling follow up observations. In some cases, radial velocity (RV) follow up can constrain the period enough to enable a future targeted transit detection. We present the confirmation of one such planet: TOI-2010 b. Nearly three years of RV coverage determined the period to a level where a broad window search could be undertaken with the Near-Earth Object Surveillance Satellite (NEOSSat), detecting an additional transit. An additional detection in a much later TESS sector solidified our final parameter estimation. We find TOI-2010 b to be a Jovian planet ($M_P = 1.29 \ M_{\rm Jup}$, $R_P = 1.05 \ R_{\rm Jup}$) on a mildly eccentric orbit ($e = 0.21$) with a period of $P = 141.83403$ days. Assuming a simple model with no albedo and perfect heat redistribution, the equilibrium temperature ranges from about 360 K to 450 K from apoastron to periastron. Its wide orbit and bright host star ($V=9.85$) make TOI-2010 b a valuable test-bed for future low-insolation atmospheric analysis., Comment: 27 pages, 10 figures, 6 tables

We report the discovery of two TESS sub-Neptunes orbiting the early M dwarf TOI-904 (TIC 261257684). Both exoplanets, TOI-904 b and c, were initially observed in TESS sector 12 with twin sizes of 2.49R$_\oplus$ and 2.31R$_\oplus$, respectively. Through observations in five additional sectors in the TESS primary mission and the first and second extended missions, the orbital periods of both planets were measured to be 10.887$\pm$0.001 and 83.999$\pm$0.001 days, respectively. Reconnaissance radial velocity measurements (taken with EULER/CORALIE) and high resolution speckle imaging with adaptive optics (obtained from SOAR/HRCAM and Gemini South/ZORRO) show no evidence of an eclipsing binary or a nearby companion, which together with the low false positive probabilities calculated with the statistical validation software TRICERATOPS establish the planetary nature of these candidates. The outer planet, TOI-904 c, is the longest-period M dwarf exoplanet found by TESS, with an estimated equilibrium temperature of 217K. As the three other validated planets with comparable host stars and orbital periods were observed by Kepler around much dimmer stars (J$_{mag}$ $>$ 12), TOI-904 c, orbiting a brighter star (J$_{mag}$ $=$ 9.6), is the coldest M dwarf planet easily accessible for atmospheric follow-up. We present the confirmation of a hot super-Neptune with an exterior Neptune companion orbiting a bright (V = 10.1 mag) F-dwarf identified by the $\textit{Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite}$ ($\textit{TESS}$). The two planets, observed in sectors 45, 46 and 48 of the $\textit{TESS}$ extended mission, are $4.74^{+0.16}_{-0.14}$ $R_{\oplus}$ and $3.86^{+0.17}_{-0.16}$ $R_{\oplus}$ with $5.4588385^{+0.0000070}_{-0.0000072}$ d and $17.8999^{+0.0018}_{-0.0013}$ d orbital periods, respectively. We also obtained precise space based photometric follow-up of the system with ESAs $\textit{CHaracterising ExOplanets Satellite}$ ($\textit{CHEOPS}$) to constrain the radius and ephemeris of TOI-5126 b. TOI 5126 b is located in the "hot Neptune Desert" and is an ideal candidate for follow-up transmission spectroscopy due to its high predicted equilibrium temperature ($T_{eq} = 1442^{+46}_{-40}$ K) implying a cloud-free atmosphere. TOI-5126 c is a warm Neptune ($T_{eq}= 971^{+31}_{-27}$ K) also suitable for follow-up. Tentative transit timing variations (TTVs) have also been identified in analysis, suggesting the presence of at least one additional planet, however this signal may be caused by spot-crossing events, necessitating further precise photometric follow-up to confirm these signals., Comment: Accepted in MNRAS, 18 pages, 14 figures

JWST has ushered in an era of unprecedented ability to characterize exoplanetary atmospheres. While there are over 5,000 confirmed planets, more than 4,000 TESS planet candidates are still unconfirmed and many of the best planets for atmospheric characterization may remain to be identified. We present a sample of TESS planets and planet candidates that we identify as "best-in-class" for transmission and emission spectroscopy with JWST. These targets are sorted into bins across equilibrium temperature $T_{\mathrm{eq}}$ and planetary radius $R{_\mathrm{p}}$ and are ranked by transmission and emission spectroscopy metric (TSM and ESM, respectively) within each bin. In forming our target sample, we perform cuts for expected signal size and stellar brightness, to remove sub-optimal targets for JWST. Of the 194 targets in the resulting sample, 103 are unconfirmed TESS planet candidates, also known as TESS Objects of Interest (TOIs). We perform vetting and statistical validation analyses on these 103 targets to determine which are likely planets and which are likely false positives, incorporating ground-based follow-up from the TESS Follow-up Observation Program (TFOP) to aid the vetting and validation process. We statistically validate 23 TOIs, marginally validate 33 TOIs to varying levels of confidence, deem 29 TOIs likely false positives, and leave the dispositions for 4 TOIs as inconclusive. 14 of the 103 TOIs were confirmed independently over the course of our analysis. We provide our final best-in-class sample as a community resource for future JWST proposals and observations. We report the confirmation of a TESS-discovered transiting super-Earth planet orbiting a mid-G star, HD 307842 (TOI-784). The planet has a period of 2.8 days, and the radial velocity (RV) measurements constrain the mass to be 9.67+0.83/-0.82 [Earth Masses]. We also report the discovery of an additional planet candidate on an outer orbit that is most likely non-transiting. The possible periods of the planet candidate are approximately 20 to 63 days, with the corresponding RV semi-amplitudes expected to range from 3.2 to 5.4 m/s and minimum masses from 12.6 to 31.1 [Earth Masses]. The radius of the transiting planet (planet b) is 1.93+0.11/-0.09 [Earth Radii], which results in a mean density of 7.4+1.4/-1.2 g/cm^3 suggesting that TOI-784b is likely to be a rocky planet though it has a comparable radius to a sub-Neptune. We found TOI-784b is located at the lower edge of the so-called ``radius valley'' in the radius vs. insolation plane, which is consistent with the photoevaporation or core-powered mass loss prediction. The TESS data did not reveal any significant transit signal of the planet candidate, and our analysis shows that the orbital inclinations of planet b and the planet candidate are 88.60+0.84/-0.86 degrees and <= 88.3-89.2 degrees, respectively. We report the discovery of TOI-4127 b, a transiting, Jupiter-sized exoplanet on a long-period ($P = 56.39879^{+0.00010}_{-0.00010}$ d), high-eccentricity orbit around a late F-type dwarf star. This warm Jupiter was first detected and identified as a promising candidate from a search for single-transit signals in TESS Sector 20 data, and later characterized as a planet following two subsequent transits (TESS Sectors 26 and 53) and follow-up ground-based RV observations with the NEID and SOPHIE spectrographs. We jointly fit the transit and RV data to constrain the physical ($R_p = 1.096^{+0.039}_{-0.032} R_J$, $M_p = 2.30^{+0.11}_{-0.11} M_J$) and orbital parameters of the exoplanet. Given its high orbital eccentricity ($e=0.7471^{+0.0078}_{-0.0086}$), TOI-4127 b is a compelling candidate for studies of warm Jupiter populations and of hot Jupiter formation pathways. We show that the present periastron separation of TOI-4127 b is too large for high-eccentricity tidal migration to circularize its orbit, and that TOI-4127 b is unlikely to be a hot Jupiter progenitor unless it is undergoing angular momentum exchange with an undetected outer companion. Although we find no evidence for an external companion, the available observational data are insufficient to rule out the presence of a perturber that can excite eccentricity oscillations and facilitate tidal migration.

We report the discovery of a super-Jovian 2:1 mean-motion resonance (MMR) pair around the G-type star TIC 279401253, whose dynamical architecture is a prospective benchmark for planet formation and orbital evolution analysis. The system was discovered thanks to a single transit event recorded by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission, which pointed to a Jupiter-sized companion with poorly constrained orbital parameters. We began ground-based precise radial velocity (RV) monitoring with HARPS and FEROS within the Warm gIaNts with tEss (WINE) survey to constrain the transiting body's period, mass, and eccentricity. The RV measurements revealed not one but two massive planets with periods of 76.80$_{-0.06}^{+0.06}$ days and 155.3$_{-0.7}^{+0.7}$ days, respectively. A combined analysis of transit and RV data yields an inner transiting planet with a mass of 6.14$_{-0.42}^{+0.39}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$ and a radius of 1.00$_{-0.04}^{+0.04}$ R$_{\rm Jup}$, and an outer planet with a minimum mass of 8.02$_{-0.18}^{+0.18}$ M$_{\rm Jup}$, indicating a massive giant pair. A detailed dynamical analysis of the system reveals that the planets are locked in a strong first-order, eccentricity-type 2:1 MMR, which makes TIC 279401253 one of the rare examples of truly resonant architectures supporting disk-induced planet migration. The bright host star, $V \approx$ 11.9 mag, the relatively short orbital period ($P_{\rm b}$ = 76.80$_{-0.06}^{+0.06}$ d) and pronounced eccentricity (e =0.448$_{-0.029}^{+0.028}$) make the transiting planet a valuable target for atmospheric investigation with the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) and ground-based extremely-large telescopes., Comment: Published in the ApJL

We used TESS light curves and HARPS-N spectrograph radial velocity measurements to establish the physical properties of the transiting exoplanet candidate found around the star HD 20329 (TOI-4524). We performed a joint fit of the light curves and radial velocity time series to measure the mass, radius, and orbital parameters of the candidate. We confirm and characterize HD 20329b, an ultra-short-period (USP) planet transiting a solar-type star. The host star (HD 20329, $V = 8.74$ mag, $J = 7.5$ mag) is characterized by its G5 spectral type with $\mathrm{M}_\star= 0.90 \pm 0.05$ M$_\odot$, $\mathrm{R}_\star = 1.13 \pm 0.02$ R$_\odot$, and $\mathrm{T}_{\mathrm{eff}} = 5596 \pm 50$ K; it is located at a distance $d= 63.68 \pm 0.29$ pc. By jointly fitting the available TESS transit light curves and follow-up radial velocity measurements, we find an orbital period of $0.9261 \pm (0.5\times 10^{-4})$ days, a planetary radius of $1.72 \pm 0.07$ $\mathrm{R}_\oplus$, and a mass of $7.42 \pm 1.09$ $\mathrm{M}_\oplus$, implying a mean density of $\rho_\mathrm{p} = 8.06 \pm 1.53$ g cm$^{-3}$. We report the discovery of TOI-4562 b (TIC-349576261), a Jovian planet orbiting a young F7V-type star, younger than the Praesepe/Hyades clusters (< $700$ Myr). This planet stands out because of its unusually long orbital period for transiting planets with known masses ($P_{\mathrm{orb}}$ = $225.11781^{+0.00025}_{-0.00022}$ days), and because it has a substantial eccentricity ($e$ = $0.76^{+0.02}_{-0.02}$). The location of TOI-4562 near the southern continuous viewing zone of TESS allowed observations throughout 25 sectors, enabling an unambiguous period measurement from TESS alone. Alongside the four available TESS transits, we performed follow-up photometry using the South African Astronomical Observatory node of the Las Cumbres Observatory, and spectroscopy with the CHIRON spectrograph on the 1.5 m SMARTS telescope. We measure a radius of $1.118_{+0.013}^{-0.014}$ $R_{\mathrm{J}}$ and a mass of $2.30^{+0.48}_{-0.47}$ $M_{\mathrm{J}}$ for TOI-4562 b. The radius of the planet is consistent with contraction models describing the early evolution of the size of giant planets. We detect tentative transit timing variations at the $\sim$ 20 min level from five transit events, favouring the presence of a companion that could explain the dynamical history of this system if confirmed by future follow-up observations. With its current orbital configuration, tidal timescales are too long for TOI-4562 b to become a hot-Jupiter via high eccentricity migration, though it is not excluded that interactions with the possible companion could modify TOI-4562 b eccentricity and trigger circularization. We present the discovery and characterization of six short-period, transiting giant planets from NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) -- TOI-1811 (TIC 376524552), TOI-2025 (TIC 394050135), TOI-2145 (TIC 88992642), TOI-2152 (TIC 395393265), TOI-2154 (TIC 428787891), & TOI-2497 (TIC 97568467). We report the discovery of TOI-2180 b, a 2.8 $M_{\rm J}$ giant planet orbiting a slightly evolved G5 host star. This planet transited only once in Cycle 2 of the primary Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission. Citizen scientists identified the 24 hr single-transit event shortly after the data were released, allowing a Doppler monitoring campaign with the Automated Planet Finder telescope at Lick Observatory to begin promptly. The radial velocity observations refined the orbital period of TOI-2180 b to be 260.8$\pm$0.6 days, revealed an orbital eccentricity of 0.368$\pm$0.007, and discovered long-term acceleration from a more distant massive companion. We conducted ground-based photometry from 14 sites spread around the globe in an attempt to detect another transit. Although we did not make a clear transit detection, the nondetections improved the precision of the orbital period. We predict that TESS will likely detect another transit of TOI-2180 b in Sector 48 of its extended mission. We use giant planet structure models to retrieve the bulk heavy-element content of TOI-2180 b. When considered alongside other giant planets with orbital periods over 100 days, we find tentative evidence that the correlation between planet mass and metal enrichment relative to stellar is dependent on orbital properties. Single-transit discoveries like TOI-2180 b highlight the exciting potential of the TESS mission to find planets with long orbital periods and low irradiation fluxes despite the selection biases associated with the transit method., Comment: Published in AJ

We report the discovery and characterisation of a pair of sub-Neptunes transiting the bright K-dwarf TOI-1064 (TIC 79748331), initially detected in TESS photometry. To characterise the system, we performed and retrieved CHEOPS, TESS, and ground-based photometry, HARPS high-resolution spectroscopy, and Gemini speckle imaging. We characterise the host star and determine $T_{\rm eff, \star}=4734\pm67$ K, $R_{\star}=0.726\pm0.007$ $R_{\odot}$, and $M_{\star}=0.748\pm0.032$ $M_{\odot}$. We present a novel detrending method based on PSF shape-change modelling and demonstrate its suitability to correct flux variations in CHEOPS data. We confirm the planetary nature of both bodies and find that TOI-1064 b has an orbital period of $P_{\rm b}=6.44387\pm0.00003$ d, a radius of $R_{\rm b}=2.59\pm0.04$ $R_{\oplus}$, and a mass of $M_{\rm b}=13.5_{-1.8}^{+1.7}$ $M_{\oplus}$, whilst TOI-1064 c has an orbital period of $P_{\rm c}=12.22657^{+0.00005}_{-0.00004}$ d, a radius of $R_{\rm c}=2.65\pm0.04$ $R_{\oplus}$, and a 3$\sigma$ upper mass limit of 8.5 ${\rm M_{\oplus}}$. From the high-precision photometry we obtain radius uncertainties of $\sim$1.6%, allowing us to conduct internal structure and atmospheric escape modelling. TOI-1064 b is one of the densest, well-characterised sub-Neptunes, with a tenuous atmosphere that can be explained by the loss of a primordial envelope following migration through the protoplanetary disc. It is likely that TOI-1064 c has an extended atmosphere due to the tentative low density, however further RVs are needed to confirm this scenario and the similar radii, different masses nature of this system. The high-precision data and modelling of TOI-1064 b are important for planets in this region of mass-radius space, and it allows us to identify a trend in bulk density-stellar metallicity for massive sub-Neptunes that may hint at the formation of this population of planets., Comment: 30 pages, 24 figures, 6 tables including the Appendix; accepted for publication in MNRAS

We describe the target selection procedure by which stars are selected for 2-minute and 20-second observations by TESS. We first list the technical requirements of the TESS instrument and ground systems processing that limit the total number of target slots. We then describe algorithms used by the TESS Payload Operation Center (POC) to merge candidate targets requested by the various TESS mission elements (the Target Selection Working Group, TESS Asteroseismic Science Consortium, and Guest Investigator office). Lastly, we summarize the properties of the observed TESS targets over the two-year primary TESS mission. We find that the POC target selection algorithm results in 2.1 to 3.4 times as many observed targets as target slots allocated for each mission element. We also find that the sky distribution of observed targets is different from the sky distributions of candidate targets due to technical constraints that require a relatively even distribution of targets across the TESS fields of view. We caution researchers exploring statistical analyses of TESS planet-host stars that the population of observed targets cannot be characterized by any simple set of criteria applied to the properties of the input Candidate Target Lists., Comment: 15 pages, 6 figures, accepted for publication in PASP

We present the discovery of an $18.5\pm0.5$M$_{\rm Jup}$ brown dwarf (BD) companion to the M0V star TOI-1278. The system was first identified through a percent-deep transit in TESS photometry; further analysis showed it to be a grazing transit of a Jupiter-sized object. Radial velocity (RV) follow-up with the SPIRou near-infrared high-resolution velocimeter and spectropolarimeter in the framework of the 300-night SPIRou Legacy Survey (SLS) carried out at the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) led to the detection of a Keplerian RV signal with a semi-amplitude of $2306\pm10$ m/s in phase with the 14.5-day transit period, having a slight but non-zero eccentricity. The intermediate-mass ratio ($M_\star/M_{\rm{comp}} \sim31$) is unique for having such a short separation ($0.095\pm0.001$ AU) among known M-dwarf systems. We carried out a systematic study of full-orbit phase curves for known transiting systems in the northern ecliptic sky that were observed during Year 2 of the TESS primary mission. We applied the same methodology for target selection, data processing, and light-curve fitting as we did in our Year 1 study. Out of the 15 transiting systems selected for analysis, seven - HAT-P-7, KELT-1, KELT-9, KELT-16, KELT-20, Kepler-13A, and WASP-12 - show statistically significant secondary eclipses and day-night atmospheric brightness modulations. Small eastward dayside hotspot offsets were measured for KELT-9b and WASP-12b. KELT-1, Kepler-13A, and WASP-12 show additional phase-curve variability attributed to the tidal distortion of the host star; the amplitudes of these signals are consistent with theoretical predictions. We combined occultation measurements from TESS and Spitzer to compute dayside brightness temperatures, TESS-band geometric albedos, Bond albedos, and phase integrals for several systems. We report the first discovery of a transiting circumbinary planet detected from a single sector of TESS data. During Sector 21, the planet TIC 172900988b transited the primary star and then 5 days later it transited the secondary star. The binary is itself eclipsing, with a period of P = 19.7 days and an eccentricity of e = 0.45. Archival data from ASAS-SN, Evryscope, KELT, and SuperWASP reveal a prominent apsidal motion of the binary orbit, caused by the dynamical interactions between the binary and the planet. A comprehensive photodynamical analysis of the TESS, archival and follow-up data yields stellar masses and radii of M1 = 1.2384 +/- 0.0007 MSun and R1 = 1.3827 +/- 0.0016 RSun for the primary and M2 = 1.2019 +/- 0.0007 MSun and R2 = 1.3124 +/- 0.0012 RSun for the secondary. The radius of the planet is R3 = 11.25 +/- 0.44 REarth (1.004 +/- 0.039 RJup). The planet's mass and orbital properties are not uniquely determined - there are six solutions with nearly equal likelihood. Specifically, we find that the planet's mass is in the range of 824 < M3 < 981 MEarth (2.65 < M3 < 3.09 MJup), its orbital period could be 188.8, 190.4, 194.0, 199.0, 200.4, or 204.1 days, and the eccentricity is between 0.02 and 0.09. We present 2,241 exoplanet candidates identified with data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) during its two-year prime mission. We list these candidates in the TESS Objects of Interest (TOI) Catalog, which includes both new planet candidates found by TESS and previously-known planets recovered by TESS observations. We describe the process used to identify TOIs and investigate the characteristics of the new planet candidates, and discuss some notable TESS planet discoveries. The TOI Catalog includes an unprecedented number of small planet candidates around nearby bright stars, which are well-suited for detailed follow-up observations. The TESS data products for the Prime Mission (Sectors 1-26), including the TOI Catalog, light curves, full-frame images, and target pixel files, are publicly available on the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes., Comment: 39 pages, 16 figures. We report the discovery of two short-period massive giant planets from NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). Both systems, TOI-558 (TIC 207110080) and TOI-559 (TIC 209459275), were identified from the 30-minute cadence Full Frame Images and confirmed using ground-based photometric and spectroscopic follow-up observations from TESS's Follow-up Observing Program Working Group. We find that TOI-558 b, which transits an F-dwarf ($M_{*}=1.349^{+0.064}_{-0.065}\ M_{\odot}$, $R_{*}=1.496^{+0.042}_{-0.040}\ R_{\odot}$, $T_{eff}=6466^{+95}_{-93}\ K$, age $1.79^{+0.91}_{-0.73}\ Gyr$) with an orbital period of 14.574 days, has a mass of $3.61\pm0.15\ M_{\rm J}$, a radius of $1.086^{+0.041}_{-0.038}\ R_{\rm J}$, and an eccentric (e=$0.300^{+0.022}_{-0.020}$) orbit. TOI-559 b transits a G-dwarf ($M_{*}=1.026\pm0.057\ M_{\odot}$, $R_{*}=1.233^{+0.028}_{-0.026}\ R_{\odot}$, $T_{eff}=5925^{+85}_{-76}\ K$, age $6.8^{+2.5}_{-2.0}\ Gyr$) in an eccentric (e=$0.151\pm0.011$) 6.984-day orbit with a mass of $6.01^{+0.24}_{-0.23}\ M_{\rm J}$ and a radius of $1.091^{+0.028}_{-0.025}\ R_{\rm J}$. Our spectroscopic follow-up also reveals a long-term radial velocity trend for TOI-559, indicating a long-period companion. The statistically significant orbital eccentricity measured for each system suggests that these planets migrated to their current location through dynamical interactions. Interestingly, both planets are also massive ($>3\ M_{\rm J}$), adding to the population of massive giant planets identified by TESS. Prompted by these new detections of high-mass planets, we analyzed the known mass distribution of hot and warm Jupiters but find no significant evidence for multiple populations. We report the discovery and validation of TOI 122b and TOI 237b, two warm planets transiting inactive M dwarfs observed by \textit{TESS}. Our analysis shows TOI 122b has a radius of 2.72$\pm$0.18 R$_\rm{e}$ and receives 8.8$\pm$1.0$\times$ Earth's bolometric insolation, and TOI 237b has a radius of 1.44$\pm$0.12 R$_\rm{e}$ and receives 3.7$\pm$0.5$\times$ Earth insolation, straddling the 6.7$\times$ Earth insolation that Mercury receives from the sun. This makes these two of the cooler planets yet discovered by \textit{TESS}, even on their 5.08-day and 5.43-day orbits. Together, they span the small-planet radius valley, providing useful laboratories for exploring volatile evolution around M dwarfs. Their relatively nearby distances (62.23$\pm$0.21 pc and 38.11$\pm$0.23 pc, respectively) make them potentially feasible targets for future radial velocity follow-up and atmospheric characterization, although such observations may require substantial investments of time on large telescopes., Comment: 21 pages, 9 figures, 4 tables, accepted to AJ

We report the discovery of two short-period Saturn-mass planets, one transiting the G subgiant TOI-954 (TIC 44792534, $ V = 10.343 $, $ T = 9.78 $) observed in TESS sectors 4 and 5, and one transiting the G dwarf K2-329 (EPIC 246193072, $ V = 12.70 $, $ K = 10.67 $) observed in K2 campaigns 12 and 19. We confirm and characterize these two planets with a variety of ground-based archival and follow-up observations, including photometry, reconnaissance spectroscopy, precise radial velocity, and high-resolution imaging. Combining all available data, we find that TOI-954 b has a radius of $0.852_{-0.062}^{+0.053} \, R_{\mathrm{J}}$ and a mass of $0.174_{-0.017}^{+0.018} \, M_{\mathrm{J}}$ and is in a 3.68 day orbit, while K2-329 b has a radius of $0.774_{-0.024}^{+0.026} \, R_{\mathrm{J}}$ and a mass of $0.260_{-0.022}^{+0.020} \, M_{\mathrm{J}}$ and is in a 12.46 day orbit. Non-rocky sub-jovian exoplanets in high irradiation environments are rare. LTT 9979b, also known as TESS Object of Interest (TOI) 193.01, is one of the few such planets discovered to date, and the first example of an ultra-hot Neptune. The planet's bulk density indicates that it has a substantial atmosphere, so to investigate its atmospheric composition and shed further light on its origin, we obtained {\it Spitzer} IRAC secondary eclipse observations of LTT 9979b at 3.6 and 4.5 $\mu$m. We combined the {\it Spitzer} observations with a measurement of the secondary eclipse in the {\it TESS} bandpass. The resulting secondary eclipse spectrum strongly prefers a model that includes CO absorption over a blackbody spectrum, incidentally making LTT 9979b the first {\it TESS} exoplanet (and the first ultra-hot Neptune) with evidence of a spectral feature in its atmosphere. We did not find evidence of a thermal inversion, at odds with expectations based on the atmospheres of similarly-irradiated hot Jupiters. We also report a nominal dayside brightness temperature of 2305 $\pm$ 141 K (based on the 3.6 $\mu$m secondary eclipse measurement), and we constrained the planet's orbital eccentricity to $e < 0.01$ at the 99.7 \% confidence level. We present the discovery of TOI 540 b, a hot planet slightly smaller than Earth orbiting the low-mass star 2MASS J05051443-4756154. The planet has an orbital period of $P = 1.239149$ days ($\pm$ 170 ms) and a radius of $r = 0.903 \pm 0.052 R_{\rm Earth}$, and is likely terrestrial based on the observed mass-radius distribution of small exoplanets at similar insolations. The star is 14.008 pc away and we estimate its mass and radius to be $M = 0.159 \pm 0.014 M_{\rm Sun}$ and $R = 0.1895 \pm 0.0079 R_{\rm Sun}$, respectively. The star is distinctive in its very short rotational period of $P_{\rm rot} = 17.4264 +/- 0.0094$ hours and correspondingly small Rossby number of 0.007 as well as its high X-ray-to-bolometric luminosity ratio of $L_X / L_{\rm bol} = 0.0028$ based on a serendipitous XMM-Newton detection during a slew operation. This is consistent with the X-ray emission being observed at a maximum value of $L_X / L_{\rm bol} \simeq 10^{-3}$ as predicted for the most rapidly rotating M dwarfs. TOI 540 b may be an alluring target to study atmospheric erosion due to the strong stellar X-ray emission. It is also among the most accessible targets for transmission and emission spectroscopy and eclipse photometry with JWST, and may permit Doppler tomography with high-resolution spectroscopy during transit. We have identified a quadruple system with two close eclipsing binaries in TESS data. The object is unresolved in Gaia and appears as a single source at parallax 1.08~$\pm$0.01 mas. Both binaries have observable primary and secondary eclipses and were monitored throughout TESS Cycle 1 (sectors 1-13), falling within the TESS Continuous Viewing Zone. In one eclipsing binary (P = 5.488 d), the smaller star is completely occluded by the larger star during the secondary eclipse; in the other (P = 5.674 d) both eclipses are grazing. Using these data, spectroscopy, speckle photometry, SED analysis and evolutionary stellar tracks, we have constrained the masses and radii of the four stars in the two eclipsing binaries. The Li I EW indicates an age of 10-50 Myr and, with an outer period of $858^{+7}_{-5}$ days, our analysis indicates this is one of the most compact young 2+2 quadruple systems known., Comment: Submitted to AJ

We report the discovery and validation of four extrasolar planets hosted by the nearby, bright, Sun-like (G3V) star HD~108236 using data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). We present transit photometry, reconnaissance and precise Doppler spectroscopy as well as high-resolution imaging, to validate the planetary nature of the objects transiting HD~108236, also known as the TESS Object of Interest (TOI) 1233. The innermost planet is a possibly-rocky super-Earth with a period of $3.79523_{-0.00044}^{+0.00047}$ days and has a radius of $1.586\pm0.098$ $R_\oplus$. The outer planets are sub-Neptunes, with potential gaseous envelopes, having radii of $2.068_{-0.091}^{+0.10}$ $R_\oplus$, $2.72\pm0.11$ $R_\oplus$, and $3.12_{-0.12}^{+0.13}$ $R_\oplus$ and periods of $6.20370_{-0.00052}^{+0.00064}$ days, $14.17555_{-0.0011}^{+0.00099}$ days, and $19.5917_{-0.0020}^{+0.0022}$ days, respectively. With V and K$_{\rm s}$ magnitudes of 9.2 and 7.6, respectively, the bright host star makes the transiting planets favorable targets for mass measurements and, potentially, for atmospheric characterization via transmission spectroscopy. HD~108236 is the brightest Sun-like star in the visual (V) band known to host four or more transiting exoplanets. The discovered planets span a broad range of planetary radii and equilibrium temperatures, and share a common history of insolation from a Sun-like star ($R_\star = 0.888 \pm 0.017$ R$_\odot$, $T_{\rm eff} = 5730 \pm 50$ K), making HD 108236 an exciting, opportune cosmic laboratory for testing models of planet formation and evolution., Comment: accepted for publication in The Astronomical Journal

Small planets on close-in orbits tend to exhibit envelope mass fractions of either effectively zero or up to a few percent depending on their size and orbital period. Models of thermally-driven atmospheric mass loss and of terrestrial planet formation in a gas-poor environment make distinct predictions regarding the location of this rocky/non-rocky transition in period-radius space. Here we present the confirmation of TOI-1235 b ($P=3.44$ days, $r_p=1.738^{+0.087}_{-0.076}$ R$_{\oplus}$), a planet whose size and period are intermediate between the competing model predictions thus making the system an important test case for emergence models of the rocky/non-rocky transition around early M dwarfs ($R_s=0.630\pm 0.015$ R$_{\odot}$, $M_s=0.640\pm 0.016$ M$_{\odot}$). We confirm the TESS planet discovery using reconnaissance spectroscopy, ground-based photometry, high-resolution imaging, and a set of 38 precise radial-velocities from HARPS-N and HIRES. We measure a planet mass of $6.91^{+0.75}_{-0.85}$ M$_{\oplus}$, which implies an iron core mass fraction of $20^{+15}_{-12}$% in the absence of a gaseous envelope. The bulk composition of TOI-1235 b is therefore consistent with being Earth-like and we constrain a H/He envelope mass fraction to be $<0.5$% at 90% confidence. Our results are consistent with model predictions from thermally-driven atmospheric mass loss but not with gas-poor formation, suggesting that the former class of processes remain efficient at sculpting close-in planets around early M dwarfs. Our RV analysis also reveals a strong periodicity close to the first harmonic of the photometrically-determined stellar rotation period that we treat as stellar activity, despite other lines of evidence favoring a planetary origin ($P=21.8^{+0.9}_{-0.8}$ days, $m_p\sin{i}=13.0^{+3.8}_{-5.3}$ M$_{\oplus}$) that cannot be firmly ruled out by our data., Comment: Accepted to The Astronomical Journal. 8 figures & 5 tables. Hot Jupiters are rarely accompanied by other planets within a factor of a few in orbital distance. Previously, only two such systems have been found. Here, we report the discovery of a third system using data from the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS). The host star, TOI-1130, is an 11th magnitude K-dwarf in the Gaia G band. It has two transiting planets: a Neptune-sized planet ($3.65\pm 0.10$ $R_E$) with a 4.1-day period, and a hot Jupiter ($1.50^{+0.27}_{-0.22}$ $R_J$) with an 8.4-day period. Precise radial-velocity observations show that the mass of the hot Jupiter is $0.974^{+0.043}_{-0.044}$ $M_J$. For the inner Neptune, the data provide only an upper limit on the mass of 0.17 $M_J$ (3$\sigma$). Nevertheless, we are confident the inner planet is real, based on follow-up ground-based photometry and adaptive optics imaging that rule out other plausible sources of the TESS transit signal. The unusual planetary architecture of and the brightness of the host star make TOI-1130 a good test case for planet formation theories, and an attractive target for future spectroscopic observations., Comment: accepted by ApJL

We present a systematic phase curve analysis of known transiting systems observed by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) during year one of the primary mission. Using theoretical predictions for the amplitude of the planetary longitudinal atmospheric brightness modulation, stellar ellipsoidal distortion and Doppler boosting, as well as brightness considerations to select targets with likely detectable signals, we applied a uniform data processing and light-curve modeling framework to fit the full-orbit phase curves of 22 transiting systems with planet-mass or brown dwarf companions, including previously published systems. Statistically significant secondary eclipse depths and/or atmospheric brightness modulation amplitudes were measured for HIP 65A, WASP-18, WASP-19, WASP-72, WASP-100, WASP-111, WASP-121, and WASP-122/KELT-14. For WASP-100b, we found marginal evidence that the brightest region of the atmosphere is shifted eastward away from the substellar point. We detected significant ellipsoidal distortion signals in the light curves of HIP 65A, TOI-503, WASP-18, and WASP-30, with HIP 65A, TOI-503 and WASP-18 also exhibiting Doppler boosting. The measured amplitudes of these signals agree with the predictions of theoretical models. Combining the optical secondary eclipse depths with previously published Spitzer 3.6 and 4.5 $\mu$m measurements, we derived dayside brightness temperatures and visible-light geometric albedos for a subset of the analyzed systems. We report the discovery of four transiting giant planets around K dwarfs. The planets HATS-47b, HATS-48Ab, HATS-49b, and HATS-72b have masses of $0.369_{-0.021}^{+0.031}$ $M_{J}$, $0.243_{-0.030}^{+0.022}$ $M_{J}$, $0.353_{-0.027}^{+0.038}$ $M_{J}$ and $0.1254\pm0.0039$ $M_{J}$, respectively, and radii of $1.117\pm0.014$ $R_{J}$, $0.800\pm0.015$ $R_{J}$, $0.765\pm0.013$ $R_{J}$, and $0.7224\pm0.0032$ $R_{J}$, respectively. The planets orbit close to their host stars with orbital periods of $3.9228$ d, $3.1317$ d, $4.1480$ d and $7.3279$ d, respectively. The hosts are main sequence K dwarfs with masses of $0.674_{-0.012}^{+0.016}$ $M_{\odot}$, $0.7279\pm0.0066$ $M_{\odot}$, $0.7133\pm0.0075$ $M_{\odot}$, and $0.7311\pm0.0028$ $M_{\odot}$ and with $V$-band magnitudes of $V = 14.829\pm0.010$, $14.35\pm0.11$, $14.998\pm0.040$ and $12.469\pm0.010$. The Super-Neptune HATS-72b (a.k.a.\ WASP-191b and TOI 294.01) was independently identified as a transiting planet candidate by the HATSouth, WASP and TESS surveys, and we present a combined analysis of all of the data gathered by each of these projects (and their follow-up programs). An exceptionally precise mass is measured for HATS-72b thanks to high-precision radial velocity (RV) measurements obtained with VLT/ESPRESSO, FEROS, HARPS and Magellan/PFS. We also incorporate TESS observations of the warm Saturn-hosting systems HATS-47 (a.k.a. TOI 1073.01), HATS-48A and HATS-49. HATS-47 was independently identified as a candidate by the TESS team, while the other two systems were not previously identified from the TESS data. The RV orbital variations are measured for these systems using Magellan/PFS. HATS-48A has a resolved $5.\!\!^{\prime\prime}4$ neighbor in Gaia~DR2, which is a common-proper-motion binary star companion to HATS-48A with a mass of $0.22$ $M_{\odot}$ and a current projected physical separation of $\sim$1,400 au., Comment: Accepted for publication in AJ. 32 pages, 14 figures, 7 tables

We analyze the phase curve of the short-period transiting hot Jupiter system WASP-19, which was observed by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite ($TESS$) in Sector 9. WASP-19 is one of only five transiting exoplanet systems with full-orbit phase curve measurements at both optical and infrared wavelengths. We measure a secondary eclipse depth of $470^{+130}_{-110}$ ppm and detect a strong atmospheric brightness modulation signal with a semi-amplitude of $319\pm51$ ppm. No significant offset is detected between the substellar point and the region of maximum brightness on the dayside. There is also no significant nightside flux detected, which is in agreement with the nightside effective blackbody temperature of $1090^{+190}_{-250}$ derived from the published $Spitzer$ phase curves for this planet. Placing the eclipse depth measured in the $TESS$ bandpass alongside the large body of previous values from the literature, we carry out the first atmospheric retrievals of WASP-19b's secondary eclipse spectrum using the SCARLET code. The retrieval analysis indicates that WASP-19b has a dayside atmosphere consistent with an isotherm at $T=2240\pm40$ K and a visible geometric albedo of $0.16\pm0.04$, indicating significant contribution from reflected starlight in the $TESS$ bandpass and moderately efficient day-night heat transport., Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in AJ

We present the discoveries of KELT-25b (TIC 65412605, TOI-626.01) and KELT-26b (TIC 160708862, TOI-1337.01), two transiting companions orbiting relatively bright, early A-stars. The transit signals were initially detected by the KELT survey, and subsequently confirmed by \textit{TESS} photometry. KELT-25b is on a 4.40-day orbit around the V = 9.66 star CD-24 5016 ($T_{\rm eff} = 8280^{+440}_{-180}$ K, $M_{\star}$ = $2.18^{+0.12}_{-0.11}$ $M_{\odot}$), while KELT-26b is on a 3.34-day orbit around the V = 9.95 star HD 134004 ($T_{\rm eff}$ =$8640^{+500}_{-240}$ K, $M_{\star}$ = $1.93^{+0.14}_{-0.16}$ $M_{\odot}$), which is likely an Am star. We have confirmed the sub-stellar nature of both companions through detailed characterization of each system using ground-based and \textit{TESS} photometry, radial velocity measurements, Doppler Tomography, and high-resolution imaging. For KELT-25, we determine a companion radius of $R_{\rm P}$ = $1.64^{+0.039}_{-0.043}$ $R_{\rm J}$, and a 3-sigma upper limit on the companion's mass of $\sim64~M_{\rm J}$. For KELT-26b, we infer a planetary mass and radius of $M_{\rm P}$ = $1.41^{+0.43}_{-0.51}$ $M_{\rm J}$ and $R_{\rm P}$ = $1.940^{+0.060}_{-0.058}$ $R_{\rm J}$. From Doppler Tomographic observations, we find KELT-26b to reside in a highly misaligned orbit. This conclusion is weakly corroborated by a subtle asymmetry in the transit light curve from the \textit{TESS} data. KELT-25b appears to be in a well-aligned, prograde orbit, and the system is likely a member of a cluster or moving group., Comment: 24 pages, 18 figures, 8 tables

We report the discovery of TOI-677 b, first identified as a candidate in light curves obtained within Sectors 9 and 10 of the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission and confirmed with radial velocities. TOI-677 b has a mass of M_p = 1.236$^{+0.069}_{-0.067}$ M_J, a radius of R_p = 1.170 +- 0.03 R_J,and orbits its bright host star (V=9.8 mag) with an orbital period of 11.23660 +- 0.00011 d, on an eccentric orbit with e = 0.435 +- 0.024. The host star has a mass of M_* = 1.181 +- 0.058 M_sun, a radius of R_* = 1.28 +- 0.03 R_sun, an age of 2.92$^{+0.80}_{-0.73}$ Gyr and solar metallicity, properties consistent with a main sequence late F star with T_eff = 6295 +- 77 K. We find evidence in the radial velocity measurements of a secondary long term signal which could be due to an outer companion. MASCARA-4 b is a hot Jupiter in a highly-misaligned orbit around a rapidly-rotating A3V star that was observed for 54 days by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (\tess). We perform two analyses of MASCARA-4 b using a stellar gravity-darkened model. First, we measure MASCARA-4 b's misaligned orbital configuration by modeling its \tess~photometric light curve. We take advantage of the asymmetry in MASCARA-4 b's transit due to its host star's gravity-darkened surface to measure MASCARA-4 b's true spin-orbit angle to be $104^{\circ+7^\circ}_{-13^\circ}$. We also detect a $\sim4\sigma$ secondary eclipse at $0.491\pm0.007$ orbital phase, proving that the orbit is slightly eccentric. Second, we model MASCARA-4 b's insolation including gravity-darkening and find that the planet's received XUV flux varies by $4$\% throughout its orbit. MASCARA-4 b's short-period, polar orbit suggests that the planet likely underwent dramatic orbital evolution to end up in its present-day configuration and that it receives a varying stellar irradiance that perpetually forces the planet out of thermal equilibrium. These findings make MASCARA-4 b an excellent target for follow-up characterization to better understand orbital evolution and current-day of planets around high-mass stars., Comment: Accepted for publication in ApJ

Much of the science from the exoplanets detected by the TESS mission relies on precisely predicted transit times that are needed for many follow-up characterization studies. We investigate ephemeris deterioration for simulated TESS planets and find that the ephemerides of 81% of those will have expired (i.e. 1$\sigma$ mid-transit time uncertainties greater than 30 minutes) one year after their TESS observations. We verify these results using a sample of TESS planet candidates as well. In particular, of the simulated planets that would be recommended as JWST targets by Kempton et al. (2018), $\sim$80% will have mid-transit time uncertainties $>$ 30 minutes by the earliest time JWST would observe them. This rapid deterioration is driven primarily by the relatively short time baseline of TESS observations. We describe strategies for maintaining TESS ephemerides fresh through follow-up transit observations. We find that the longer the baseline between the TESS and the follow-up observations, the longer the ephemerides stay fresh, and that 51% of simulated primary mission TESS planets will require space-based observations. The recently-approved extension to the TESS mission will rescue the ephemerides of most (though not all) primary mission planets, but the benefits of these new observations can only be reaped two years after the primary mission observations. We describe the catalogs assembled and the algorithms used to populate the revised TESS Input Catalog (TIC), based on the incorporation of the Gaia second data release. We also describe a revised ranking system for prioritizing stars for 2-minute cadence observations, and assemble a revised Candidate Target List (CTL) using that ranking. We present early time light curves of Type Ia supernovae observed in the first six sectors of TESS data. Ten of these supernovae were discovered by ASAS-SN, seven by ATLAS, six by ZTF, and one by \textit{Gaia}. For nine SNe with sufficient dynamic range ($>$3.0 mag from detection to peak), we fit power law models and search for signatures of companion stars. We find a diversity of early time light curve shapes, although most of our sources are consistent with fireball models where the flux increases $\propto t^2$. Three SN display a flatter rise with flux $\propto t$. We do not find any evidence for additional structure such as multiple power law components in the early rising light curves. For assumptions about the SN properties and the observer viewing angle, and further assuming that companion stars would be in Roche-lobe overflow, we place limits on the radii of companions for six SNe with complete coverage of the early time light curves. The upper limits are $\lesssim$\,32 R$_\odot$ for these six supernovae, $\lesssim$\,20 R$_\odot$ for five of these six, and $\lesssim$\,4 R$_\odot$ for two of these six. The small sample size does not constrain occurrence rates of single degenerate Type Ia SN progenitors, but we expect that TESS observed enough SNe in its primary mission (26 sectors) to inform this measurement. We also show that TESS is capable of detecting emission from a 1 \rsun\ companion for a Type Ia SN within 50 Mpc, and may do so after about six years., Comment: Published in ApJ. 57 pages, 42 figures

We report the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) discovery of three terrestrial-sized planets transiting L 98-59 (TOI-175, TIC 307210830) -- a bright M dwarf at a distance of 10.6 pc. Using the Gaia-measured distance and broad-band photometry we find that the host star is an M3 dwarf. Combined with the TESS transits from three sectors, the corresponding stellar parameters yield planet radii ranging from 0.8REarth to 1.6REarth. All three planets have short orbital periods, ranging from 2.25 to 7.45 days with the outer pair just wide of a 2:1 period resonance. Diagnostic tests produced by the TESS Data Validation Report and the vetting package DAVE rule out common false positive sources. These analyses, along with dedicated follow-up and the multiplicity of the system, lend confidence that the observed signals are caused by planets transiting L 98-59 and are not associated with other sources in the field. The L 98-59 system is interesting for a number of reasons: the host star is bright (V = 11.7 mag, K = 7.1 mag) and the planets are prime targets for further follow-up observations including precision radial-velocity mass measurements and future transit spectroscopy with the James Webb Space Telescope; the near resonant configuration makes the system a laboratory to study planetary system dynamical evolution; and three planets of relatively similar size in the same system present an opportunity to study terrestrial planets where other variables (age, metallicity, etc.) can be held constant. We report the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite discovery of three small planets transiting one of the nearest and brightest M dwarf hosts to date, TOI-270 (TIC 259377017; K-mag 8.3; 22.5 parsec). The M3V-type star is transited by the super-Earth-sized TOI-270 b (1.247+0.089-0.083 R_earth) and the sub-Neptune-sized exoplanets TOI-270 c (2.42+-0.13 R_earth) and TOI-270 d (2.13+-0.12 R_earth). The planets orbit close to a mean-motion resonant chain, with periods (3.36, 5.66, and 11.38 days) near ratios of small integers (5:3 and 2:1). TOI-270 is a prime target for future studies since: 1) its near-resonance allows detecting transit timing variations for precise mass measurements and dynamical studies; 2) its brightness enables independent radial velocity mass measurements; 3) the outer planets are ideal for atmospheric characterisation via transmission spectroscopy; and 4) the quiet star enables future searches for habitable zone planets. We perform a study of stellar flares for the 24,809 stars observed with 2 minute cadence during the first two months of the TESS mission. Flares may erode exoplanets' atmospheres and impact their habitability, but might also trigger the genesis of life around small stars. TESS provides a new sample of bright dwarf stars in our galactic neighborhood, collecting data for thousands of M-dwarfs that might host habitable exoplanets. Here, we use an automated search for flares accompanied by visual inspection. Then, our public allesfitter code robustly selects the appropriate model for potentially complex flares via Bayesian evidence. We identify 1228 flaring stars, 673 of which are M-dwarfs. Among 8695 flares in total, the largest superflare increased the stellar brightness by a factor of 16.1. Bolometric flare energies range from 10^31.0 to 10^36.9 erg, with a median of 10^33.1 erg. Furthermore, we study the flare rate and energy as a function of stellar type and rotation period. We solidify past findings that fast rotating M-dwarfs are the most likely to flare, and that their flare amplitude is independent of the rotation period. Finally, we link our results to criteria for prebiotic chemistry, atmospheric loss through coronal mass ejections, and ozone sterilization. Four of our flaring M dwarfs host exoplanet candidates alerted on by TESS, for which we discuss how these effects can impact life. We present a visible-light full orbital phase curve of the transiting planet WASP-18b measured by the TESS Mission. The phase curve includes the transit, secondary eclipse, and sinusoidal modulations across the orbital phase shaped by the planet's atmospheric characteristics and the star-planet gravitational interaction. We measure the beaming (Doppler boosting) and tidal ellipsoidal distortion phase modulations and show that the amplitudes of both agree with theoretical expectations. We find that the light from the planet's day-side hemisphere occulted during secondary eclipse, with a relative brightness of $341_{-18}^{+17}$ ppm, is dominated by thermal emission, leading to an upper limit on the geometric albedo in the TESS band of 0.048 (2$\sigma$). We also detect the phase modulation due to the planet's atmosphere longitudinal brightness distribution. We find that its maximum is well-aligned with the sub-stellar point, to within 2.9 deg (2$\sigma$). We do not detect light from the planet's night-side hemisphere, with an upper limit of 43 ppm (2$\sigma$), which is 13 % of the day-side brightness. The low albedo, lack of atmospheric phase shift, and inefficient heat distribution from the day to night hemispheres that we deduce from our analysis are consistent with theoretical expectations and similar findings for other strongly irradiated gas giant planets. This work demonstrates the potential of TESS data for studying full orbital phase curves of transiting systems. We report the first confirmation of a hot Jupiter discovered by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) mission: HD 202772A b. The transit signal was detected in the data from TESS Sector 1, and was confirmed to be of planetary origin through radial-velocity measurements. HD 202772A b is orbiting a mildly evolved star with a period of 3.3 days. With an apparent magnitude of V = 8.3, the star is among the brightest known to host a hot Jupiter. Based on the 27days of TESS photometry, and radial velocity data from the CHIRON and HARPS spectrographs, the planet has a mass of 1.008+/-0.074 M_J and radius of 1.562+/-0.053 R_J , making it an inflated gas giant. HD 202772A b is a rare example of a transiting hot Jupiter around a quickly evolving star.
