Abstract

In the given work the first attempt to generalize quantum uncertainty relation on macro objects is made. Business company as one of economical process participants was chosen by the authors for this purpose. The analogies between quantum micro objects and the structures which from the first sight do not have anything in common with physics are given. The proof of generalized uncertainty relation is produced. With the help of generalized uncertainty relation the authors wanted to elaborate a new non-traditional approach to the description of companies' business activity and their developing and try to formulate some advice for them. 19. Peculiarities of the magnetocaloric effect in FeRh-based alloys in the vicinity of the first order magnetic phase transition

Abstract

Medical applications of magnetocaloric effect (MCE) require possibility for precision shift of a temperature of the magnetic phase transition at the same MCE value and minimize irreversibility. Thus, detail dynamic MCE investigation of such alloys with non-toxic biocompatible dopants need to be done. In present work, the giant magnetocaloric effect, which is observed in the whole family of Fe-Rh alloys, has been investigated in Pd-doped samples in slowly cycled magnetic fields of up to 1.8 T in magnitude for a range of temperatures, 250 K < T < 350 K. The shift of the ferromagnetic/antiferromagnetic transition temperature down towards room temperature and the decrease in the MCE have been observed in these alloys in comparison with a quasi-equiatomic FeRh alloy. The measurements have also shown an asymmetric behaviour of the first order magnetic phase transition with respect to whether the transition is traversed by heating from lower temperatures or cooling from above. These peculiarities have been explained in the framework of the ab-initio density functional theory-based disordered local moment theory of the MCE. The results have been compared with the those for the non-doped FeRh alloy. Thus features of the first order magnetic phase transition that these alloys have in common have been revealed which enable some predictions to be made appropriate for practical applications.

Abstract

Magnetic and magnetothermal properties of annealed Zn0.2Mn0.8Fe2O4 nanoparticles with diameter value, ranging from 9 to 35 nm, have been investigated and compared with earlier investigated unannealed Zn0.2Mn0.8Fe2O4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). A single-phase spinel structure was observed in both types of MNPs. It has been demonstrated that for the large annealed Zn0.2Mn0.8Fe2O4 nanoparticles (24.7, 31.4, 35.1 nm) the value of specific absorption rate (SAR) is proportional to the amplitude of the magnetic field as ∼H4. However, for earlier investigated unannealed Zn0.2Mn0.8Fe2O4 MNPs, superquadratic dependence SAR ∼H5 have been found starting from 13 nm. Significant change of dependence of the character of SAR(d) may be explained by low values of hysteresis area of small annealed MNPs and, thus, dominant role of Néel relaxation in these annealed Zn0.2Mn0.8Fe2O4 nanoparticles.

Abstract

Iron-containing oxides are the most important functional substance class and find a tremendous variety of applications. An attractive modern application is their use in biomedical technologies as components in systems for imaging, drug delivery, magnetically mediated hyperthermia, etc. In this paper, we report the results of the experimental investigation of submicron Y3Fe5O12 garnet particles obtained in different sizes by solution combustion synthesis (SCS) using glycine organic fuel to discuss the interdependence of peculiarities of the crystal and magnetic structure and size's influence on its functional magnetothermal performance. A complex study including Mössbauer and Raman spectroscopy accompanied by X-ray diffractometry, SEM, and measurements of field and temperature magnetic properties were performed. The influence of the size effects and perfectness of structure on the particle set magnetization was revealed. The ranges of different mechanisms of magnetothermal effect in the AC magnetic field were determined. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The effectiveness of Dy3Al5O12 (DOA) as a magnetic coolant was investigated using mean field approximation. The results showed that the Ising-like behavior of dysprosium ions in DOA produced significant anisotropy of the crystal's net magnetic moment as a result of low overall crystal symmetry. This indicates that DOA is suitable for refrigerants using the revolution of the working materials for its demagnetiation under the profile of the magnetic field.

33. Developing Antitumor Magnetic Hyperthermia: Principles, Materials and Devices

Abstract

Background and Objective: Methods of local or loco-regional anticancer treatment are of the utmost importance because the therapeutic ‘power’ is applied directly to the disease site. Consequently, general toxicity is minimized. Hyperthermia, that is, a sustained increase of intratumoral temperature up to 45oC, has been investigated as a perspective treatment modality alone and/or in combination with ionizing radiation or chemotherapy. Still, the surrounding tissues can be damaged by the external heat. Method: Development of new materials and devices gave rise to methods of inducing hyperthermia by a high frequency magnetic or electromagnetic field applied to the tumor with exogenous nanosized particles captured within it. The idea of this approach is the release of local heat in the vicinity of the magnetic nanoparticle in a time-varying magnetic field due to transfer of external magnetic field energy into the heat. Therefore, tumor cells are heated whereas the peritumoral non-malignant tissues are spared. Results: This review analyzes recent advances in understanding physical principles that underlie magnetic hyperthermia as well as novel approaches to obtain nanoparticles with optimized physico-chemical, toxicological and tumoricidal properties. Special focus is made on the construction of devices for therapeutic purposes. Conclusion: The review covers recent patents and general literature sources regarding magnetic hyperthermia, the developing approach to treat otherwise intractable malignancies.

Abstract

In the presented study Gd and the alloy Fe49Rh51 are considered to be possible magnetocaloric materials for a new hyperthermia method. From general principles of thermodynamics a new mathematical model allowing the calculation of heat transport in a tumor was developed and numerical simulations were performed. The heating-up time as a dependence of the size and mass of a spherical tumor is determined. Estimates of the necessary frequency in dependence of the particle concentration and temperature are presented. In the case of Gd nanoparticles, approximate and accurate calculations are made by assuming that the covering material ofthe particles consist of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) hydrogel. Dynamic heat transfer processes are graphically visualized.
