Abstract

The use of organic-inorganic hybrid nanoflowers as a support material for enzyme immobilization has gained significant attention in recent years due to their high stability, ease of preparation, and enhanced catalytic activity. However, a major challenge in utilizing these hybrid nanoflowers for enzyme immobilization is the difficulty in handling and separating them due to their low density and high dispersion. To address this issue, magnetic nanoflowers have emerged as a promising alternative enzyme immobilization platform due to their easy separation, structural stability, and ability to enhance catalytic efficiency. This review focuses on different methods for designing magnetic nanoflowers, as well as future research directions. Additionally, it provides examples of enzymes immobilized in the form of magnetic nanoflowers and their applications in environmental remediation, biosensors, and food industries. Finally, the review discusses possible ways to improve the material for enhanced catalytic activity, structural stability, and scalability. The magnetic hybrid nanoflowers embedded with enzymes exhibit superior catalytic activity, excellent stability, and ease of separation which can be used in a wide range of applications. Magnetic nanoflowers can be used as a novel platform for enzyme immobilization. There are three different approaches to the synthesis of efficient magnetic nanoflower. The magnetic nanoflowers provides excellent stability and good reusability of enzymes. The hybrid biocatalyst was applied in biotransformation, environmental, and food applications. Abstract

The increase in biodiesel production has resulted in the oversupply of glycerol into the market. Purified and processed glycerol has found many direct applications in pharmaceuticals, food, etc. However, the cost of processing and market value of processed glycerol has driven the research of direct utilization of crude glycerol to industrially essential chemicals. Various methods and research have been devoted to using glycerol to produce value-added products separately. Glycerol can undergo several transformation reactions like hydrogenation, oxidation, alcoholysis, and etherification. Etherification of glycerol can be divided into three main reactions: self-etherification, using alcohol, and olefins and these products have vast applications such as fuel additives, plasticizer, etc. The current review presents a comprehensive summary of glycerol etherification to value-added products and their applications. The catalytic system developed along with reaction conditions and the factors responsible for the better activity is also discussed. Overall, the review presents a detailed discussion on the catalytic system developed, the utilization of different alcohols and olefins, and the application of products. Moreover, the environmental and economic aspects of the etherification of glycerol via various conversion routes while assessing the process parameters needs to be tackled to attain wider adoption of the process. 36. Kinetic Analysis of Glycerol Esterification Using Tin Exchanged Tungstophosphoric Acid on K-10

Abstract

Glycerol acetins (mono-, di-, and tri) are produced via esterification with acetic acid. The acetins are commercially important industrial chemicals including their application as fuel additives, thus significant to environmental sustainability and economic viability of the biorefinery industry. Glycerol esterification with acetic acid was studied using partial tin exchanged tungstophosphoric acid supported on montmorillonite K-10 as catalysts. Partially exchanging the H+ion of DTP with Sn (x= 1) increased the acidity of the catalyst and showed an increase in the catalytic activity as compared to the DTP/K-10 catalyst. A series of tin exchanged tungstophosphoric acid (20% w/w) supported on montmorillonite K-10 clay (Snx-DTP/K-10, where x= 0.5–1.5) were synthesized and thoroughly characterized by using BET, XRD, FT-IR, UV–vis, and titration techniques. Among various catalysts, Sn1-DTP/K-10 was found to be the most active catalyst for glycerol esterification. Effects of different reaction parameters were studied and optimized to get high yields of glycerol triacetin. A suitable kinetic model of the reaction was fitted, and the Langmuir–Hinshelwood (L-H) dual-site model was able to describe the experimental data with high agreement between the experimental and calculated results. The prepared catalyst could be recycled at least four times without significant loss of activity. The overall process is green and environment friendly.
