We characterize directs sums of twists of symmetric powers of the universal quotient bundle over the Grassmannian of lines. We use a method that could be used for analogue results on any arbitrary variety, and that should give stronger results than using the standard technique of Beilinson's spectral sequence., Comment: The final version has been published in Journal of Algebra

Mathematics - Algebraic Geometry - Abstract
Given a vector space $V$ over a field $\K$ whose characteristic is coprime with $d!$, let us decompose the vector space of multilinear forms $V^*\otimes\overset{\text(d)}{\ldots}\otimes V^*=\bigoplus _\lambda W_\lambda(X,\K)$ according to the different partitions $\lambda$ of $d$, i.e. the different representations of $S_d$. In this paper we first give a decomposition $W_{(d-1,1)}(V,\K)=\bigoplus_{i=1}^{d-1}W_{(d-1,1)}^i(V,\K)$. We finally prove the vanishing of the hyperdeterminant of any $F\in(\bigoplus_{\lambda\ne(d),(d-1,1)})\oplus W_{(d-1,1)}^i(V,\K)$. This improves the result in [10] and [1], where the same result was proved without this new last summand.

Abstract Immersive virtual reality (VR) is recently being explored as a therapeutic alternative for the treatment of amblyopia. This pilot study aimed to evaluate the preliminary efficacy, safety, usability and satisfaction obtained with the use of a novel VR system (NEIVATECH) to provide binocular vision training in previously treated older amblyopic children with non-compliance or non-response to patching. A prospective, multicentre, open-label, single-arm, pilot study was conducted in which the intervention under study was 9 h of therapy with the NEIVATECH system, distributed in 18 half-hour sessions spread over 1 month. A comprehensive visual assessment was conducted before and after the intervention, and at the end of the intervention the safety and usability of the system and patient satisfaction were evaluated. After therapy, statistically significant differences were observed in the near best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of the dominant (p = 0.022) and non-dominant (p = 0.022) eye, in stereopsis based on the Binocular Function Score (p = 0.045) and in the break (p = 0.012) and recovery (p = 0.009) points of negative fusional vergence for distance vision. The safety and usability of the system and patient satisfaction with the therapy were adequate. These findings support further investigation of this treatment option in future studies incorporating a control group with which to compare the results obtained. Trial registration: NCT04819386.

We consider the intersection $\mathfrak{M}(A)$ of all maximal ideals of an evolution algebra $A$ and study the structure of the quotient $A/\M(A)$. In a previous work, maximal ideals have been related to hereditary subsets of a graph associated to the given algebra. We investigate the superfluous members both in the family of maximal ideals and also in the set of hereditary subsets of the associated graphs. By using subdirect products we state a structure theorem for arbitrary evolution algebras (arbitrary dimensions and ground field). Specializing in the perfect finite-dimensional case, we obtain a direct sum decomposition instead of a subdirect product and also a uniqueness property. We also study some examples in which Grassmanians appear in a natural way and others that exhibit a richer structure with a nonzero semisimple part that is non-associative., Comment: We rewritten and added some relevant parts of the paper. We also changed the tittle according to the new concepts and results. The system doesn't allow us to replace it. We are going to upload a new version that is called "Reductive radical of evolution algebras"

Introduction: Despite the recommendations of the clinical guidelines, the percentage of central venous catheters (CVC) continues to be above the recommended standards. We do not know whether the increasing use of catheters is due to unavoidable or avoidable factors and, in the latter case, it would be in our power to modify these results. The aim of this study was to analyze the causes that condition the use of CVC in a prevalent hemodialysis (HD) population in order to identify those modifiable factors on which to act in order to achieve the objectives of the guidelines. Methods: Retrospective, descriptive and observational study in all prevalent patients on chronic hemodialysis belonging to 7 hemodialysis centers in Madrid, Castilla-León and Galicia in a cross-sectional study carried out in June 2021 (637 patients). The following were analyzed: age, sex, nationality, etiology of CKD, the vascular access with which they started hemodialysis, the number of previous failed arteriovenous fistulas (AVF), time since the start of HD, time since the placement of the CVC for the first time, the situation with respect to surgery and the causes of being a CVC carrier. In patients whose cause was refusal to undergo AVF, patients were asked about the cause of the refusal by directed questioning. Results: Of the 637 patients studied, 255 (40%) had a CVC, 346 had an AVF (54.3%) and 36 (5.7%) had a prosthesis. Of the 255 patients with CVC, 20.4% (52 p) were awaiting vascular access (AVF/prosthesis), 10.2% (26 p) had an AVF but could not be used and 69.4% (177 p) were not considered candidates for surgery (due to vascular surgery (16.9%; 43 pac), nephrology (16.5%, 42 pac) and patient refusal (36%; 92 pac). The most frequent cause for refusal of AVF was fear and patient preference. One of the most important factors associated with CVC use in prevalent patients was having started hemodialysis with a CVC. The greatest use of CVC at the start of HD was significantly associated with having more than one AVF performed, or starting HD urgently and not having been followed up and evaluated in the ACKD consultation. Conclusions: There is a high percentage of patients with a central venous catheter due to modifiable causes, which makes it necessary to systematically evaluate the process of creating AVF in order to enhance the planning, creation and maintenance of vascular access from the ACKD clinic, and to achieve the objective of the guidelines.

Mathematics - Commutative Algebra ,17A60, 17D92, 05C25 - Abstract
In this article, we introduce a relation including ideals of an evolution algebra and hereditary subsets of vertices of its associated graph and establish some properties among them. This relation allows us to determine maximal ideals and ideals having the absorption property of an evolution algebra in terms of its associated graph. We also define a couple of order-preserving maps, one from the sets of ideals of an evolution algebra to that of hereditary subsets of the corresponding graph, and the other in the reverse direction. Conveniently restricted to the set of absorption ideals and to the set of hereditary saturated subsets, this is a monotone Galois connection. According to the graph, we characterize arbitrary dimensional finitely-generated (as algebras) evolution algebras under certain restrictions of its graph. Furthermore, the simplicity of finitely-generated perfect evolution algebras is described on the basis of the simplicity of the graph.

PURPOSETo better understand immigration disparities among a Spanish Early-Onset Colorectal Cancer (SECOC) subset, according to the country of origin.PATIENTS AND METHODSWe selected 250 consecutive participants from the SECOC consortium. Data on baseline patient and tumor characteristics, family history of colorectal cancer (CRC), and follow-up were collected. The presence of mismatch repair deficiency was also assessed. Special data regarding country of origin, time of stay in Spain in case of other different country, and a 10-year cutoff that specifies the obtaining of Spanish nationality defined the variables of interest for comparison.RESULTSSeventy-five percent of patients with early-onset CRC (EOCRC) (188) were born in Spain, whereas the other 25% were born outside of Spain. The mean time of living in Spain until the EOCRC diagnosis was 16.5 years. Comparatively, most of the analyzed features showed equivalent proportions between cohorts. Only Spanish patients appeared to have more familial cancer component in first degree in general (32.3%; P = .01), compared with non-Spaniards, which showed a predominant sporadic component (56.4%; P < .001). Among immigrants, those patients living in Spain before CRC diagnosis ≤10 years were younger at diagnosis (39.1 v 42.5), more frequently male (77.8 v 47.7), were in more advanced stages (88.8% diagnosed at stage III and IV [P = .01]), and had a worse prognosis regarding recurrence rates (29.4% v 6.3%).CONCLUSIONAlthough there were few differences between Spanish and non-Spanish EOCRC, the most remarkable difference was that linked with the situation of those immigrants who have recently arrived in Spain, in relation to their lower health coverage, which could be associated with the delay in the diagnosis and their subsequent worse prognosis.

Recently, based on light microscopy images, the tubercle structure on the seed surface of 100 Silene species was quantitatively described, including tubercle width, height, and curvature associated with general morphometric data. Curvature measures the rate of change of the tangent vector in a curve and can be calculated by the following methods described for Arabidopsis roots. Here, we apply curvature measurements to the SEM images of 40 Silene species from Türkiye, demonstrating that a quantitative analysis of tubercles can be made based on SEM images with similar results to optical photographs. The association of morphometric tubercle data allows for classification into six groups, five of them corresponding to described shapes: rugose (two groups), echinate, mammillate, and papillose, and a sixth group of tubercles plane on top. The curvature values vary between 20 and 200 mm−1 and differ among the morphological tubercle types described. The correlation of curvature values with other general measurements and morphological seed characteristics is investigated. Tubercle quantification not only is a useful tool for Silene taxonomy, but also provides the basis for the analysis of the genetic control and developmental effects on tubercle structure and shape in the seed surface.

The Vitis IMIDRA collection contains 3699 entries, representing a significant percentage of the variation in traditional and commercial Vitis cultivars used in Spain. The classification and identification of new entries are currently conducted based on ampelography and molecular methods. Here, we propose a new method of classification of the cultivars based on seed morphology and its application to a total of 224 varieties from the collection. Based on seed shape, fourteen groups have been defined according to the similarity of the seeds, with geometric figures used as models. The new models are Cariñena Blanca, Chardonnay, Parraleta, and Parduca, defining new groups to be added to the ten groups previously described. The study results in 14 groups comprising the Spanish cultivar’s seed shape and morphological variation. Seed morphology can help to identify varieties cultivated in the past through archaeological finds.

Sarcopenia and dynapenia are two terms associated with ageing that respectively define the loss of muscle mass and strength. In 2018, the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) introduced the EWGSOP2 diagnostic algorithm for sarcopenia, which integrates both concepts. It consists of 4 sequential steps: screening for sarcopenia, examination of muscle strength, assessment of muscle mass and physical performance; depending on these last 3 aspects sarcopenia is categorised as probable, confirmed, and severe respectively. In the absence of validation of the EWGSOP2 algorithm in various clinical contexts, its use in haemodialysis poses several limitations: (a) low sensitivity of the screening, (b) the techniques that assess muscle mass are not very accessible, reliable, or safe in routine clinical care, (c) the sequential use of the magnitudes that assess dynapenia and muscle mass do not seem to adequately reflect the muscular pathology of the elderly person on dialysis. We reflect on the definition of sarcopenia and the use of more precise terms such as “myopenia” (replacing the classic concept of sarcopenia to designate loss of muscle mass), dynapenia and kratopenia. Prospective evaluation of EWGSOP2 and its comparison with alternatives (i.e. assessment of kratopenia and dynapenia only; steps 2 and 4) is proposed in terms of its applicability in clinical routine, resource consumption, identification of at-risk individuals and impact on events. Abstract Background Frailty among older adults undergoing hemodialysis is increasingly prevalent, significantly impacting cognitive function, mobility, and social engagement. This study focuses on the clinical profiles of very older adults in hemodialysis, particularly examining the interplay of dependency and frailty, and their influence on dialysis regimens. Methods In this observational, descriptive study, 107 patients aged over 75 from four outpatient centers and one hospital unit were examined over a year. Patient data encompassed sociodemographic factors, dialysis specifics, analytical outcomes, lifestyle elements, and self-reported post-treatment fatigue. Malnutrition-inflammation scale was used to measure the Nutritional status; MIS scale for malnutrition-inflammation, Barthel index for dependency, Charlson comorbidity index; FRIED scale for frailty and the SF12 quality of life measure. Results The study unveiled that a substantial number of older adults on hemodialysis faced malnutrition (55%), dependency (21%), frailty (46%), and diminished quality of life (57%). Patients with dependency were distinctively marked by higher comorbidity, severe malnutrition, enhanced frailty, nursing home residency, dependency on ambulance transportation, and significantly limited mobility, with 77% unable to walk. Notably, 56% of participants experienced considerable post-dialysis fatigue, correlating with higher comorbidity, increased dependency, and poorer quality of life. Despite varying clinical conditions, dialysis patterns were consistent across the patient cohort. Conclusions The older adult cohort, averaging over four years on hemodialysis, exhibited high rates of comorbidity, frailty, and dependency, necessitating substantial support in transport and living arrangements. A third of these patients lacked residual urine output, yet their dialysis regimen mirrored those with preserved output. The study underscores the imperative for tailored therapeutic strategies to mitigate dependency, preserve residual renal function, and alleviate post-dialysis fatigue, ultimately enhancing the physical quality of life for these patients.

Abstract: Sarcopenia and dynapenia are two terms associated with ageing that respectively define the loss of muscle mass and strength. In 2018, the European Working Group on Sarcopenia in Older People (EWGSOP) introduced the EWGSOP2 diagnostic algorithm for sarcopenia, which integrates both concepts. It consists of four sequential steps: screening for sarcopenia, examination of muscle strength, assessment of muscle mass and physical performance; depending on these last three aspects sarcopenia is categorised as probable, confirmed, and severe respectively.

In this paper we introduce a new species of evolution algebras that we call Cayley evolution algebras. We show that if a field $k$ contains sufficiently many elements (for example if $k$ is infinite) then every finite group $G$ is isomorphic to $Aut(X)$ where $X$ is a finite-dimensional absolutely simple Cayley evolution $k$-algebra., Comment: This version of the article has been accepted for publication, after peer review but is not the Version of Record and does not reflect post-acceptance improvements, or any corrections. This work classifies three-dimensional simple evolution algebras over arbitrary fields. For this purpose, we use tools such as the associated directed graph, the moduli set, inductive limit group, Zariski topology and the dimension of the diagonal subspace. Explicitly, in the three-dimensional case, we construct some models $_i\mathbf{III}_{\lambda_1,\ldots,\lambda_n}^{p,q}$ of such algebras with $1\le i\le 4$, $\lambda_i\in\mathbb{K}^\times$, $p,q\in\mathbb{N}$, such that any algebra is isomorphic to one (and only one) of the given in the models and we further investigate the isomorphic question within each one. Moreover, we show how to construct simple evolution algebras of higher-order from known simple evolution algebras of smaller size.

Leber hereditary optic neuropathy ,Mitochondrial DNA ,Pathologic mutation ,Large pedigree ,Incomplete penetrance ,Medicine - Abstract
Abstract Background Most patients suffering from Leber hereditary optic neuropathy carry one of the three classic pathologic mutations, but not all individuals with these genetic alterations develop the disease. There are different risk factors that modify the penetrance of these mutations. The remaining patients carry one of a set of very rare genetic variants and, it appears that, some of the risk factors that modify the penetrance of the classical pathologic mutations may also affect the phenotype of these other rare mutations. Results We describe a large family including 95 maternally related individuals, showing 30 patients with Leber hereditary optic neuropathy. The mutation responsible for the phenotype is a novel transition, m.3734A > G, in the mitochondrial gene encoding the ND1 subunit of respiratory complex I. Molecular-genetic, biochemical and cellular studies corroborate the pathogenicity of this genetic change. Conclusions With the study of this family, we confirm that, also for this very rare mutation, sex and age are important factors modifying penetrance. Moreover, this pedigree offers an excellent opportunity to search for other genetic or environmental factors that additionally contribute to modify penetrance.

- Abstract
Nowadays one of the main focuses of the Spanish University system is achieving the active learning paradigm in the context of its integration into the European Higher Education Area. This goal is being addressed by means of the application of novel teaching mechanisms. Among a wide variety of learning approaches, the present work focuses on peer review, understood as a collaborative learning technique where students assess other student's work and provide their own feedback. In this way, peer review has the overarching goal of improving the student learning during this process. Peer review has been successfully applied and analyzed in the literature. Indeed, many authors also recommend improving the design and implementation of self and peer review, which has been our main goal. This paper presents an empirical study based on the application of peer review assessment in different higher education BSc and MSc courses. In this way, six courses from different studies at the University of Malaga in Spain are subject to the application of peer review strategies to promote student learning and develop cross-wise skills such as critical thinking, autonomy and responsibility. Based on these experiences, a deep analysis of the results is performed, showing that a proper application of the peer review methodology provides reliable reviews (with close scores to the ones from the teacher) as well as an improvement in the students' performance.

The starting point of this work is that the class of evolution algebras over a fixed field is closed under tensor product. This arises questions about the inheritance of properties from the tensor product to the factors and conversely. For instance nondegeneracy, irreducibility, perfectness and simplicity are investigated. The four-dimensional case is illustrative and useful to contrast conjectures so we achieve a complete classification of four-dimensional perfect evolution algebras arising as tensor product of two-dimensional ones. We find that there are 4-dimensional evolution algebras which are the tensor product of two nonevolution algebras., Comment: 18 pages, 2 tables

The Cucurbitaceae is a monophyletic family with close to 1000 species of climbers, including important agronomic species and varieties characterized by tendrils and pepo fruits. The seed’s morphology is varied, and the development and structure of the seed coat have been described in detail on some species. Overall description of the seed shape is based on terms comparing it with geometric figures, but quantitative methods are lacking in the literature. Here we apply a general morphological analysis to seeds of representative genera of the Cucurbitaceae, followed by curvature analysis in the poles and symmetry analysis. These methods are useful for the quantitative description of seed shape and the comparison between species and varieties. Differences between species were found for most morphological measurements, as well as for symmetry and curvature values. The comparison between three species of Cucumis (Cucumis sativus, C. myriocarpus and C. melo) and two varieties of C. melo reveals differences between species and varieties both in curvature and symmetry. The results obtained from both methods, curvature and symmetry analysis, form similar groupings in a cluster analysis. The methods described here were applied for the identification of agronomic varieties and the quantitative description of seed shape in taxonomy.
