To resolve the drawback of conventional thyratron switches, development of a semiconductor high voltage switch utilizing a 13 kV class SiC-MOSFET developed by Tsukuba Power Electronics Constellations (TPEC) is proceeding. At first, the device evaluation test was carried out with a resistive load circuit. With the conditions of drain voltage of 10 kV and load resistance of 1 kΩ, turn on loss Eon, turn off loss Eoff, rise time Tr and fall time Tf were 1.7 mJ, 1.1 mJ, 64 ns, and 75 ns, respectively. As to gate charge characteristics, required electric charge to increase gate source voltage from 0 V to 20 V was about 80 nC. Thereafter, the 2s-12p switch array was designed and assembled, where 12 MOSFETs are equally aligned on a circle shaped circuit board and two circuit boards are stacked in series. A 14 kV-490 A-5 us pulse with a rise time of 430 ns in the long pulse mode and a 18 kV-318 A-1 us pulse with a rise time of 289 ns in the short pulse mode were successfully demonstrated. SuperKEKB is a double ring asymmetric collider to study the B meson physics, which is an upgrade project of KEKB. The 7 GeV electron (HER) and the 4 GeV positron ring (LER) collides at an interaction point. The positron beam produced by linac cannot meet the dynamic aperture restrictions of LER. Damping ring (DR) is required to reduce its injection emittance. Damping ring (DR) for SuperKEKB has two kicker magnets for the injection and the extraction, respectively. These kickers are required to meet the following specifications: (1) rise and fall time does not exceed 100 ns, (2) two bunches which are 96 ns apart must be kicked by single pulse, (3) the stability of peak current for the extraction kickers must be less than 0.1 %. Kicker magnets are designed as a conventional kicker with a ferrite core. The pulse shape is a double half sine for the two bunch injection. In order to achieve short rise time, a saturable inductance is used. The design and performance of kicker magnets and the power supplies are reported., Proceedings of the 10th Int. The klystron modulator for the L-band linac is upgraded for higher stability. The two-step charging system for the pulse forming network (PFN) is upgraded by adding a high impedance resonant charging line in parallel with the main line. The charging step of the PFN voltage is reduced considerably near the setting value by switching the main resonance line off so that the charging current flows only through the high impedance line. The second model of the solid-state switch is developed using 60 static-induction thyristors, ten of which are connected in series with six such series connected in parallel to meet maximum specifications of 25 kV and 6 kA. The air-cooling capacity is reinforced so that repetition rate is increased from 10 pps for the first model to 60 pps. The fluctuation and accuracy of the klystron voltage are measured to be 7.8×10⁻⁶ or 7.8 ppm for the upgraded klystron modulator using a differential amplifier with much higher sensitivity than one used in the previous measurement., Proceedings of the 28th Linear Accelerator Conf., LINAC2016, East Lansing, MI, USA

New Beam abort system was installed at the Super-KEKB High Energy Ring. It was designed to enlarge the horizontal beam size at the beam extraction window to protect the extraction window, and it also makes the beam abort gap shorter. It consists of four horizontal kicker magnets, one vertical kicker to sweep the beam position in vertical direction, sextupole magnet to enlarge the horizontal beam size, one lambertson magnet, Ti extraction window and beam dump. Four horizontal kicker magnets and one vertical kicker magnet connects to the one power supply. The ceramic chambers cooled by the water are inserted in each kicker coils. The Abort system had been used during SuperKEKB phase 1 operation. This paper describes the performance of the abort system., Proceedings of the 8th Int. We are upgrading the THz-FEL at Osaka University for its applications to high intensity THz sciences, which originally generated the high intensity FEL with the macropulse energy up to 3.7 mJ and the micropulse energy up to ~10 uJ at a wavelength around 70 um. To increase the micropulse energy, charge in electron bunches is increased four time higher and the bunch intervals are expanded four times longer to maintain the average current in the linac unchanged. In the new operation mode, the macropulse energy increases up to 26 mJ and the micropulse energy to ~0.2 mJ, which is 20 times higher than the energy previously obtained in the conventional mode. We have developed a solid-state switch for the klystron modulator to highly stabilize the klystron voltage, so that the output power of the FEL becomes stable. We are conducting basic studies on FEL for further improvement of its performance, including measurement of power evolution from start-up to saturation, time structures of FEL micropulses measured with a Michelson interferometer, and time structures of macropulses measured with a Schottky diode detector. New beam abort system designed for KEKB upgrade, consists of horizontal and vertical kicker magnets, pulsed quadrupole magnets, a Lambertoson septum magnet and a beam dump. Water-cooling ceramic chambers are used for the kicker and pulsed quadrupole magnets. At the KEKB upgrade project, the beam abort gap is required to be less than 200 nsec. The beam currents are increased and their emittance is supposed to be much smaller than KEKB. In order to avoid melting the extraction Ti window, the pulsed quadrupole magnets will be installed. They enlarge the beam cross section at the extract window. The components for the SuperKEKB abort system are developed. The compact water-cooling ceramic chambers are developed to reduce the gap of kicker magnets and bore radius of the pulsed quadrupole magnets.
