The purpose of this retrospective study was to verify preoperative local parameters of periapical lesions evaluated on cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scans as a potential prognostic factor in endodontic microsurgery (EMS). Among 89 cases, local factors (dimensions of lesion, bone destruction pattern, presence/absence of cortical bone destruction, height of buccal bone plate, apical extend of root canal filling, presence/absence of communication with anatomical cavities, type of lesion restriction) were measured on preoperative CBCT images before EMS. At least one year after surgery, the outcome of EMS was classified as a success or a failure. Ten cases (11.24%) were classified as a failure and 79 as a success (88.76%). Symptomatic lesions (OR = 0.088 (95% CI 0.011–0.731); p = 0.024), apicomarginal lesions (OR = 0.092 (0.021–0.402); p = 0.001) and an association with molar teeth (OR = 0.153 (0.032–0.732); p = 0.019) were found as negative predictive factors in the univariate analysis, whereas large apicocoronal dimension (OR = 0.664 (0.477–0.926); p = 0.016), apicomarginal lesions (OR = 0.058 (0.006–0.55); p = 0.013), and an association with molar teeth (OR = 0.047 (0.003–0.869); p = 0.04) were identified as negative predictive factors in the multivariate analysis model. Symptomatic lesions, apicomarginal lesions, lesions associated with molar teeth and large apicocoronal dimensions are significantly associated with the failure of EMS.

Current evidence suggests that nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS)-associated odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) exhibit more aggressive clinical behavior and a higher tendency to relapse. The prognostic efficacy of various markers in sporadic and syndromic OKCs is unclear, and so are the results of studies on the usefulness of immunohistochemistry in distinguishing syndromic from sporadic OKCs.This retrospective study aimed to compare the prognostic relevance of various clinicoradiological and histopathological features, as well as the immunoexpression of COX-2, Bcl-2, proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA), p53, Ki-67, osteoprotegerin (OPG), receptor activator of nuclear factor κ B (RANK) and receptor activator of nuclear factor κ B ligand (RANKL), as well as RANKL/OPG balance between sporadic and syndromic OKCs, and to test their utility in distinguishing the 2 types of OKC.We compared the immunoexpression of the aforementioned markers between 31 sporadic and 12 syndromic OKCs, and tested clinicopathological findings and levels of immunostaining against recurrence.We found a significant association between NBCCS and OKC recurrence. There were significant differences in PCNA, p53 and OPG immunoexpression between sporadic and syndromic OKCs. We also found that recurrent sporadic OKCs were significantly larger and markedly more often associated with cortical perforation. Recurrent sporadic OKCs exhibited COX-2 upregulation, but we failed to demonstrate its prognostic relevance. Recurrent syndromic OKCs showed a markedly higher RANKLOPG ratio.The NBCCS-associated OKCs are significantly more prone to recur than their sporadic counterparts. Larger size and radiological signs of cortical perforation in sporadic OKCs may indicate a higher risk of recurrence. The COX-2 is upregulated in recurrent sporadic OKCs, whereas recurrent syndromic OKCs exhibit higher RANKL and lower OPG expression; however, these findings have no prognostic relevance. The immunoexpression of p53, PCNA and OPG may help to distinguish syndromic from sporadic OKCs.

Diet is a factor that can modify the course of caries, dental erosion and periodontal diseases.The aim of this study was to examine the impact of dietary habits and the anthropometric parameters on oral health.50 females and 45 males aged 19-21 years were examined in a cross-sectional study. Oral health was assessed utilizing selected dental indices: approximal plaque index (API), bleeding on probing (BoP), community periodontal index (CPI), and DMFT (D - decayed, M - missing, F - filled, T - teeth). In addition, dental erosion was assessed. Anthropometric measurements included body mass, height, body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, skinfold thickness, fatty and lean body mass, body fat percentage, and total body water. The frequency of consumption of food products was determined with the use of the Questionnaire on Food Products Frequency Intake. Student's t tests, the χ2 tests and Pearson's correlation coefficients were used to analyze the results.The average DMFT was 9.92, API was 52.97% and BoP was 20.46%. Dental erosion was observed in 44.21% of cases. A total of 11.58% of the study population were classified as CPI 0, 30.53% as CPI 1 and 57.89% as CPI 2. The consumption of crisps and cereal products increased caries (p = 0.003). Dental erosion was associated with the consumption of fruit, vegetables, meat, fish, and alcoholic beverages. The consumption of sugar, sweets and alcoholic beverages increased API and BoP. Caries rarely occurred in people who ate fruit and vegetables on a daily basis. The anthropometric parameters were associated with oral hygiene, gingivitis and body weight disorders (p0.05).Rational nutrition not only plays a role in the development of general systemic diseases, but also has an effect on oral health. Besides providing instructions on oral hygiene, dentists should also assess the eating habits of their patients.

Histone deacetylases (HDACs) are important regulators of gene expression that are aberrantly regulated in several inflammatory and infectious diseases. HDAC inhibitors (HDACi) suppress inflammatory activation of various cell types through epigenetic and non-epigenetic mechanisms, and ameliorate pathology in a mouse model of periodontitis. Activation of gingival fibroblasts (GFs) significantly contributes to the development of periodontitis and the anaerobic bacterium Porphyromonas gingivalis plays a key role in driving chronic inflammation. Here, we analyzed the role of HDACs in inflammatory responses of GFs. Pan-HDACi suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid (SAHA) and/or ITF2357 (givinostat) significantly reduced TNFα- and P. gingivalis–inducible expression and/or production of a cluster of inflammatory mediators in healthy donor GFs ( IL1B, CCL2, CCL5, CXCL10, COX2, and MMP3) without affecting cell viability. Selective inhibition of HDAC3/6, but not specific HDAC1, HDAC6, or HDAC8 inhibition, reproduced the suppressive effects of pan-HDACi on the inflammatory gene expression profile induced by TNFα and P. gingivalis, suggesting a critical role for HDAC3 in GF inflammatory activation. Consistently, silencing of HDAC3 expression with siRNA largely recapitulated the effects of HDAC3/6i on mRNA levels of inflammatory mediators in P. gingivalis–infected GFs. In contrast, P. gingivalis internalization and intracellular survival in GFs remained unaffected by HDACi. Activation of mitogen-activated protein kinases and NFκB signaling was unaffected by global or HDAC3/6-selective HDACi, and new protein synthesis was not required for gene suppression by HDACi. Finally, pan-HDACi and HDAC3/6i suppressed P. gingivalis–induced expression of IL1B, CCL2, CCL5, CXCL10, MMP1, and MMP3 in GFs from patients with periodontitis. Our results identify HDAC3 as an important regulator of inflammatory gene expression in GFs and suggest that therapeutic targeting of HDAC activity, in particular HDAC3, may be clinically beneficial in suppressing inflammation in periodontal disease.

Periapical inflammation is one of the most common pathologies within the jaws, leading to the destruction of periodontal ligaments, bone resorption and the formation of periapical granulomas or radicular cysts. The final diagnosis can be made only on the basis of histopathological examination. The aim of the study was to assess the conformity between clinical and histopathological diagnosis of inflammatory periapical lesions treated with apicoectomy.The case histories of 52 patients subjected to surgical treatment at the Clinic of Conservative Dentistry with Endodontics between 2008 and 2018 were analyzed. Demographic data (age, gender), clinical (radiological) diagnosis, and data on the presence of sinus tracts and causal tooth were obtained from patients' records.In the light of clinical and radiological examination, 32 (61.5%) periapical granulomas, 18 (34.6%) radicular cysts and 2 (3.9%) periapical scars were diagnosed, whereas the result of histopathological examination revealed granuloma in 34 (65.4%) cases and in 18 (34.6%) - radicular cyst. For clinical diagnosis of granuloma, the result coincided with the result of the histopathological examination in 28 cases, and in the case of cysts in 14. The analysis showed a significant relationship between the clinical and histopathological diagnoses (p0.05).The study emphasizes the importance of histopathological assessment for the proper diagnosis of periapical lesions.The article emphasizes the high importance of histopathological examination for the correct diagnosis of chronic inflammatory periapical lesions.

Background Odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) are clinically aggressive lesions with relatively high recurrence rates. Dysregulation of functional equilibrium in the RANK/RANKL/OPG system is responsible for osteolysis associated with the development of OKCs. Previously published findings imply that immunoexpression of these 3 proteins may correlate with bone resorption activity in OKCs. Objectives The rationale behind this study was to assess the potential for receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B (RANK), receptor activator of nuclear factor kappa-B ligand (RANKL) and osteoprotegerin (OPG) expression, as well as RANKL/OPG expression ratio, to serve as prognostic indicators for OKC recurrence. Material and methods We investigated the immunoexpression patterns of RANK, RANKL and OPG, and their correlation with recurrence rates, in 41 patients with OKCs treated with enucleation. Results We found no statistically significant differences between recurrent and non-recurrent cysts in terms of either: epithelial (p = 0.404) and stromal (p = 0.469) immunoreactivity of RANK; epithelial (p = 0.649) and stromal (p = 0.198) immunoreactivity of RANKL; or epithelial (p = 1) and stromal (p = 0.604) immunoreactivity of OPG. We also did not find significant differences in the distribution of cases with respect to ratios of RANKL/OPG immunostaining scores between recurrent and non-recurrent OKCs, both in the epithelium and in the connective tissue (p = 1 and p = 0.237, respectively). Conclusions Our results suggest that immunoexpression levels of RANK, RANKL and OPG at the time of pathological diagnosis, as well as the RANKL/OPG ratio, are not useful as prognostic markers for OKC recurrence.

Central mucoepidermoid carcinoma (CMEC) is a very rare neoplasm comprising 2% to 4% of all mucoepidermoid carcinomas. We herby present an unusual case of high-grade CMEC of the maxilla of a 53-year-old male patient, who was referred to the Department of Oral Surgery by a general dentist due to accidentally detected on X-ray unilocular radiolucent lesion on the premolar region of the left maxilla. Intraoral examination revealed asymmetry of the vestibule with palpable swelling in the region of 24-26 with a positive fluctuation and crepitation. After CBCT examination and core needle biopsy, preliminary diagnosis of residual cyst was made, and the cystic lesion was excochleated. Histopathological examination revealed a high-grade CMEC. Patient was reported to the Department of Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgery, where he underwent a subtotal maxillectomy and selective neck dissection. The patient remains in follow-up, having had no recurrences during 12-month period after surgery.

We report the history of a 59-year old patient with systemic AL amyloidosis of intraoral manifestation. The patient first presented with complaints about dysphagia and remarkable enlargement of the tongue with highly reduced mobility, as well as bilateral submucosal thickenings on the cheeks. Histopathological examination of the incisional biopsy of the buccal mucosa and underlying tissues revealed AL amyloidosis. The microscopic presentation was, however, unique, as the amyloid deposits were present intracellularly in the striated muscles. The subsequent bone marrow biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of primary amyloidosis/multiple myeloma - associated amyloidosis.

Human dental pulp harbours unique stem cell population exhibiting mesenchymal stem/stromal cell (MSC) characteristics. This study aimed to analyse the differentiation potential and other essential functional and morphological features of dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) in comparison with Wharton&rsquo, s jelly-derived MSCs from the umbilical cord (UC-MSCs), and to evaluate the osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs in 3D culture with a hypoxic microenvironment resembling the stem cell niche. Human DPSCs as well as UC-MSCs were isolated from primary human tissues and were subjected to a series of experiments. We established a multiantigenic profile of DPSCs with CD45&minus, /CD14&minus, /CD34&minus, /CD29+/CD44+/CD73+/CD90+/CD105+/Stro-1+/HLA-DR&minus, (using flow cytometry) and confirmed their tri-lineage osteogenic, chondrogenic, and adipogenic differentiation potential (using qRT-PCR and histochemical staining) in comparison with the UC-MSCs. The results also demonstrated the potency of DPSCs to differentiate into osteoblasts in vitro. Moreover, we showed that the DPSCs exhibit limited cardiomyogenic and endothelial differentiation potential. Decreased proliferation and metabolic activity as well as increased osteogenic differentiation of DPSCs in vitro, attributed to 3D cell encapsulation and low oxygen concentration, were also observed. DPSCs exhibiting elevated osteogenic potential may serve as potential candidates for a cell-based product for advanced therapy, particularly for bone repair. Novel tissue engineering approaches combining DPSCs, 3D biomaterial scaffolds, and other stimulating chemical factors may represent innovative strategies for pro-regenerative therapies.

The diagnosis of oral lichen planus (OLP) is based on clinical examination and histopathological criteria. Noninvasive diagnostics of saliva may be considered as a confirmation of OLP diagnosis and a potential alternative to an invasive method. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the relationship between the level of tyrosine (Tyr) as well as antioxidants like uric acid (UA) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity in the saliva of patients with OLP in comparison with the control group (healthy subjects without any oral changes). A total of 40 patients with OLP and 40 healthy volunteers were selected for the study based on the modified WHO diagnostic (clinical and histopathological) criteria. High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) was performed for Tyr concentration, while GPx activity and uric acid levels were determined by a colorimetric method. The concentrations of Tyr, UA, and GPx activity were statistically lowered in OLP patients compared to the control group. All examined parameters correlated strongly and positively with each other. Mean values of salivary UA concentrations differed between the groups of OLP patients (reticular and erosive forms) and controls (206.66 vs. 196.54 vs. 218.49 μmol/L, respectively, p=0.001). A similar trend was demonstrated in salivary Tyr concentration which differed statistically between the study and control groups (0.08 vs. 0.07 vs. 0.13 μmol/L, respectively, p=0.001). Determining of a relationship between the concentrations of Tyr, UA, and GPx activity may be useful in the prognosis of OLP. The HPLC method may be employed, as an additional noninvasive diagnostic procedure to screen OLP patients, during the routine diagnostics of salivary biochemical parameters such as aromatic amino acids.

Objective: The study aimed to evaluate total antioxidant capacity as well as levels of various enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants, and oxidative stress markers in saliva of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and oral leukoplakia (OL). Material and methods: Twenty patients with OSCC, 20 patients with OL and 20 healthy subjects were enrolled into this prospective study. Total Antioxidant Capacity (TAC), activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and glutathione reductase (GR) as well as levels of total glutathione (tGSH), reduced glutathione (GSH), oxidized glutathione (GSSG), GSH/GSSG ratio, uric acid (UA), 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and malondialdehyde (MDA) were estimated in saliva using appropriate biochemical methods. Results: The activity of SOD was significantly higher in OSCC group in comparison with OL and control groups. The levels of GSH were markedly lower in OSCC and OL patients as compared to the control group. Likewise, we found that GSH/GSSG ratio was markedly lower in the OSCC and OL groups. Levels of some biomarkers were influenced by clinical staging of OSCC and OL as well as by sociodemographic factors. Conclusions: The results of this pilot study suggest that salivary activity of SOD is higher in OSCC patients, whereas levels of GSH and GSH/GSSG ratio are lower in saliva of patients with OSCC and OL. Clinical staging of OSCC and OL, as well as some sociodemographic factors may also influence salivary antioxidant status.

Molecular and electronic structure changes during successive reduction of a Fe-tetraphenylporphyrin chloride [Fe(III)(TPP):Cl] complex are reported on the basis of Mössbauer spectroscopy and DFT calculations. It is established that the attachment of additional electrons to a neutral Fe(III)(TPP):Cl molecule leads to significant shortening of Fe-N distances at the first stage of the reduction Fe(III)(TPP):Cl → Fe(II)(TPP) and lengthening of these bonds at the second stage Fe(II)(TPP) → Fe(I)(TPP). Changes of other bond lengths of the porphyrin ring also appear but in less degree. Interaction of Fe(II) and Fe(I)(TPP) with tetrahydrofuran (THF) solvent is considered. Electron configuration of Fe(II)(TPP) corresponds to intermediate-spin (S = 1) state and in the case of Fe(I)(TPP) low-spin state (S = ½) is observed. Electron density distribution in Fe(II)- and Fe(I)(TPP) complexes, in association with Mössbauer data, is analyzed. Good correlation between experimental and theoretical results was obtained.

Modern Re-Fe-B hard magnetic materials, produced using rapid quenching technique, taking into account variations in chemical composition, can be divided into three groups i.e. of stoichiometric, Re2Fe14B composition, and with excess of rare earth or iron [1–3]. Materials, composed of Re-Fe-B compound with overstoichiometric rare earths, typically are characterized by worse glass transition ability, smallest Mr/Ms ratio and large coercivity. Their properties are shaped by exchange interactions between Re2Fe14B, which are weakened by an increased distance between the grains. Enlarged distance between grains is resulting from the presence of a thin boundary formed from an amorphous matrix of redundant rare earths. Additionally, the presence of such a boundary causes an increase in coercivity due to the strong bonding of domain walls at the grain boundaries [4]. The stoichiometric composition causes increase in glass transition ability, Mr/Ms ratio but also causes deterioration of coercivity. These changes are a result of a reduction in the distance between grains, by removing the paramagnetic amorphous matrix, and fi ner structure as a result of increase in glass transition ability [5]. The highest glass transition ability, fi ner structure and highest Mr/Ms ratio is met in Re-Fe-B compound with overstoichiometric iron. The signifi cantly higher value of the Mr/Ms ratio results from the presence of the strong exchange interactions, between particles that differ in magnetic hardness. Ghrelin, an acylated 28-amino acid polypeptide, was primary isolated from the stomach, and the stomach is a main source of circulating ghrelin. Ghrelin strongly and dose-dependently stimulates release of growth hormone from the anterior pituitary, as well as increases food intake and fat deposition. Previous studies showed that ghrelin exhibits protective and therapeutic effect in different parts of the gastrointestinal system, including the oral cavity. The aim of present study was to examine the role of growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) in the healing of gingival ulcers. Studies were performed on rats with the intact pituitary gland and hypophysectomized rats. In anesthetized rats, chronic ulcers of the gum were induced by acetic acid. Rats were treated intraperitoneally twice a day with saline or ghrelin (4, 8 or 16 nmol/kg/dose) for six days. In pituitary-intact rats, administration of ghrelin significantly increased serum concentration of growth hormone and IGF-1 and this effect was associated with a significant increase in the healing rate of gingival ulcers. Moreover, treatment with ghrelin increased mucosal blood flow and DNA synthesis in the gum, while a local inflammation was decreased what was observed as a reduction in mucosal concentration of pro-inflammatory interleukin-1β. Hypophysectomy decreased serum level of growth hormone below a detection limit; whereas serum concentration of IGF-1 was reduced by 90%. On the other hand, removal of the pituitary gland was without any significant effect on the healing rate of gingival ulcers or on the ulcer-induced increase in DNA synthesis and concentration of pro-inflammatory interleukin-1β in gingival mucosa. Administration of ghrelin failed to affect serum level of growth hormone and IGF-1 in hypophysectomized rats, and was without any effect on the healing rate of gingival ulcers, mucosal blood flow, DNA synthesis or concentration of interleukin-1β in gingival mucosa. Neither induction of gingival ulcers nor hypophysectomy nor administration of ghrelin significantly affected serum concentration of pro-inflammatory interleukin-1β. We concluded that endogenous growth hormone and IGF-1 were involved in the therapeutic effect of exogenous ghrelin in the healing of gingival mucosa damage.

This systematic review was undertaken to determine the overall and detailed recurrence rate of keratocystic odontogenic tumour in relation to specific treatment methods. Online electronic databases were searched to identify articles published in English language from 1956 to 2010. Articles were independently appraised by two reviewers in three separate rounds. Any disagreement was settled by discussion with a third judge. Of 1568 potentially relevant articles, 168 articles related to the treatment of keratocystic odontogenic tumour/parakeratinised type of odontogenic keratocyst and its recurrence rate entered the second round for evaluation. Fourteen papers entered the third round for critical appraisal. Two retrospective reviews entered the final analysis. One hundred eight lesions were found in the material analysed. Six treatment modalities were identified. The recurrence rates were 0% for resection, 0% for enucleation with peripheral ostectomy and Carnoy's solution, 18.18% for enucleation with peripheral ostectomy, 26.09% for enucleation alone, 40% for marsupialisation, and 50% for enucleation with Carnoy's solution. The overall recurrence rate was 23.15%. The present review discusses the methodological weaknesses of many of the studies analysed. No high quality evidence was obtained to evaluate recurrence rates related to treatment modalities of keratocystic odontogenic tumour.

Presented heretofore is the case of a 26-year-old male suffering from a keratocystic odontogenic tumour that exhibits progressive development in the mandible. During our evaluation, the patient underwent numerous diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to restore his normal appearance and function.

The authors examined whether ketoprofen administered 60 min before surgical extraction of the lower wisdom teeth provides effective postsurgical analgesia and reduces rescue analgesic intake compared with ketoprofen administered 60 min after surgery or placebo. The 96 patients were placed into three groups: pre-group (ketoprofen 60 min preoperatively); post-group (ketoprofen 60 min postoperatively); and no-group (placebo). Study interventions had a significant effect on pain sensations in the 12 h after surgery. The initial onset of pain was significantly delayed only in the post-group. Pain intensity at the first onset of pain was significantly lower only in the post-group. Patients in the pre- and post-groups required significantly less rescue analgesic than those in the no-group. Ketoprofen administered after third molar surgery provides more effective pain control than ketoprofen administered before the surgery or placebo.

Mössbauer investigations, in association with density functional theory (DFT) calculations, have been conducted for the molecular and electronic structures of iron (III) [tetrakis (pentafluorophenyl)] porphyrin chloride [(F20TPP)Fe:Cl], as a Fe(III)-tetraphenylporphyrin complex containing chloride axial ligand and substituted hydrogen atoms by fluorine ones in the four phenyl rings, in comparison with its fluorine unsubstituted analogue [(TPP)Fe:Cl]. It was found that the parameters of Mössbauer spectra of both complexes are close to one another, and correspond to the high-spin state of Fe(III) ions, but they show the different temperature dependence and the quadrupole doublets in Mössbauer spectra show different asymmetry at low temperatures. Results of DFT calculations are analyzed in the light of catalytic activity of the halogenated complex.

Bisphosphonates (BPs) play a key role in the treatment of both primary and secondary osteoporosis on account of their effect on the calcium metabolism in the human body. The administering of BPs reduces the frequency of fractures of the spine, the neck of the femur and the wrist. They also promote bone mass growth in the whole skeleton. In addition, they improve the quality of life of treated patients significantly (Almazrooa & Woo, 2009; Watts & Diab, 2010). However, during the course of treatment with bisphosphonates it is of importance to bear in mind the possible development of a specific complication, namely osteonecrosis of the jaw. It should be noted that no bisphosphonate-related necrosis is observed in other bones. Since 2003 when the first cases of osteonecrosis of the jaw following BP administration were described (Marx, 2003), more references to BPs Bisphosphonate–Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, i.e. BRONJ, have appeared in the literature, encompassing new and more numerous groups of patients (Durie et al., 2005; Kos et al., 2010; Otto et al., 2011; Ruggiero et al., 2004). BRONJ was initially observed in patients receiving BPs for malignant tumours, bone metastases (most frequently from breast, prostate or lung cancer), and in cases of multiple myeloma (Wang et al., 2007). BPs such as pamidronate and zoledronate were applied intravenously and doses of the medication exceeded many times over the dose used in osteoporosis. Recently, BRONJ has likewise been confirmed in patients with osteoporosis who had received oral alendronate, and in earlier years etidronate (Magremanne, 2008; Palaska et al., 2009; Watts & Diab, 2010). BRONJ manifests itself as a necrotically changed, exposed bone with a depleted mucous membrane and often accompanying by inflammation (Peters et al., 1993). It frequently follows a tooth extraction. It occurs more commonly in the mandible than in the maxilla (Kos et al., 2010; Ruggiero et al., 2004). The objective of this study is to develop and examine the performance of an image classification system using Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) on a large set of images represented by MPEG-7 low-level descriptors. This experimental data set consists of five different categories of images. In a series of experiments we considered 5 different categories of the MPEG-7 descriptors related to colors and textures of images. Prior to any clustering the original space was reduced using the standard Principal Component Analysis (PCA). A series of carefully organized experiments has led to a number of interesting findings as to the suitability of fuzzy sets in the framework in image organization and description, insights into the structure of various categories and their interrelationship.
