A strong coherent effect was observed in the monochromatic optical Kerr effect (OKE) experiment of a Bi2O3-B2O3-SiO2 oxide glass (BI glass). To eliminate the influence of the coherent effect, we proposed a simple femtosecond two-color OKE measurement method with wavelength tunability using a supercontinuum. In the two-color OKE measurement the third order nonlinear susceptibility of the BI glass was measured to be 1.64 × 10-13 electrostatic units (esu), in which the influence of the coherent effect was eliminated. The result is smaller than that obtained in a previous monochromatic OKE experiment. An ultrafast optical Kerr gate of Bi2O3–B2O3–SiO2 oxide glass (BI glass) was used in an ultrafast time-resolved imaging system for shape measurement of objects. The experimental results showed that the longitudinal resolution of the imaging system using the ultrafast optical Kerr gate was less than 20 μm and the measurements of object shape using the ultrafast optical Kerr gate of BI glass had more advantages compared with that using CS2. The influence of the size parameter of the scatterers on ultrafast optical Kerr gate (OKG) imaging is investigated in highly scattering poly-disperse turbid media. The results show that in a poly-disperse turbid medium, which in our case, is a suspension of two different sized mono-disperse microspheres, the temporal and spatial behaviors of the light pulses transmitted through it are dominated by the smaller microspheres. The contrasts of the OKG images for the poly-disperse microsphere sample are closer to the contrasts of the OKG images for the smaller sized mono-disperse microsphere sample. Abstract: Compared with bismuth glasses and chalcogenide glasses, tellurite glasses have a wider transparency window. Especially, these glasses with excellent transparency in visible region could offer a larger dynamic range for the time-resolved simultaneous three-dimensional imaging based on the optical Kerr gate (OKG). We investigated the ultrafast nonlinear optical properties of a TeO2–ZnO–Na2O glass using a femtosecond optical Kerr gate at wavelength of 800nm. The nonlinear refraction n 2 and the ultrafast nonlinear response time of the tellurite glass were estimated to be 4.56×10–15 cm2/W and less than 200fs, respectively. We also demonstrated the time-resolved simultaneous three-dimensional imaging using the tellurite glass as the Kerr medium, which indicated that tellurite glasses may also be good candidates as the Kerr media for the time-resolved imaging based on the OKG.
