Using a case study of a kerb – the social stone – found at a tram traffic Island, the text demonstrates the re/production of the ableist city and analyses processes of transforming such a city into an accessible space for people with disabilities. The authors apply actor-network theory to analyse the mutual construction of space and bodies. To understand this construction, the concept of topology is used, which the article develops by introducing 'ableist' and 'accessible' topology. Unlike topography, which is in concord with able-bodied people, topology is more suitable for the analysis of space when also including non-standard bodies. Moreover, it allows the authors to analyse the mechanisms that reproduce and control the currently inaccessible city on the one hand, and it provide some room for change on the other. However, to make this change happen, a specific network must be established. To trace the associations that create such a network, the study uses in-depth interviews with involved actors collected over a ten-year period. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

L’article présente un modèle sémantique d’inspiration topologique destiné à apprécier la construction du sens des processus sociaux, tels que la radicalisation djihadiste. Deux notions sémantiques, issues de Desclés (2012), sont particulièrement développées : le Schème des Représentations Quasi-Topologiques (SRQT) et la « frontière épaisse ». Nous cherchons à saisir, par le relevé de marques langagières typiques des processus (aller vers, rester, sortir…) les étapes et les mécanismes de passage entre états (non-radicalisé/radicalisé), tels qu’ils sont représentés par la parole politique en France (2013-2018). Nous analysons pour cela un corpus de déclarations publiques (2 millions de mots) de façon quantitative (tri d’énoncés pertinents par coocurrences et grammaires locales à l’aide du logiciel TXM), et qualitative par l’observation fine du corpus.

This paper presents a conceptual overview of the main figures that Lacan borrowed in his approach to surface topology; the aim is to fathom the theoretical implications and the ontological consequences of these schemes regarding central psychoanalytic concepts such as subject, jouissance, object, fantasy, among others. It develops a logical sequence of iconic topological figures in Lacan, from the torus to the cross-cap, passing through the Möbius strip and the Klein bottle. It concludes with the cross-cap because it specifies the novel contribution of concepts re-articulated from these new tools. Theoretical terms such as subject and object, as well as their complex relationship, are clarified from a critical conception of dualism and by offering an alternative that surpasses the spheroid topologies. Ce n’est que depuis quelques années que l’histoire de l’art porte un intérêt accru aux questions de topologie et à l’application du savoir topologique dans les œuvres d’art.Dès lors, ont été étudiées les manières dont les relations spatiales se produisent au moyen d’assemblages interrelationnels de continuité et de discontinuité, d’intérieur et d’extérieur, de jonction et de séparation, de pliage et de dépliage, etc. C’est dans ce contexte que le texte « La peinture est un vrai trois », publié par Hubert Damisch en 1983, a été réexaminé et compris comme une contribution radicale et prospective au débat sur une histoire de l’art topologique. S’appuyant sur la juxtaposition de l’espace euclidien et de l’espace topologique, telle que décrite par Merleau-Ponty dans Le visible et l’invisible, suivi de Note de travail, le texte de Damisch non seulement transfère ce débat au domaine de l’art, mais érige l’image tissée en un modèle théorique qui peut être considéré comme une alternative refoulée face au paradigme encore dominant de la perspective.

This is the second of two linked articles that aim to present new ways of mapping literature by means of digital tools for the twenty-first century. The preceding article articulated the need to move beyond the mapping of literary texts onto geographic sites in the world and into the mapping of space relationally in nonreferential ways by means of literary topology. This second article seeks to make a larger case for new ways of working in the digital humanities and suggests that new methods of analysis and new tools are needed. It articulates an integrated visual–verbal method of interpretation that combines the close reading of spatial meanings and structures within a text with analysis of the map series generated out of that same text in an iterative structure. It also argues for the value of layers of mapping and of comparative mapping of the same place both referentially and nonreferentially. The literary texts chosen to exemplify the method are Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and Lewis Carroll's Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There. This paper is the first of two linked pieces that emerge out of the AHRC-funded Chronotopic Cartographies project for the mapping of place and space in literature. The paper aims to establish the value of a topological approach for the mapping of literary texts. It is centred on Bakhtin's concept of the "chronotope" or "time-space" as the basis for digitally mapping spatial meaning in literary works. It begins by contextualizing our work in relation to the field of literary geography and cartography. It then makes a clear distinction between mapping to the real world using GIS (as is common in fields such as history or geography) and mapping relatively, using topologies, which we argue is essential for the mapping of fictional place and space. The current digital models that are closest to this project concern social network analysis and its adaptation to the mapping of character networks in literary texts. After contextualizing our work in relation to this research, we aim to provide a rationale for the use of topological models in literary mapping. Borders are present in each form of human activity. Probably the most common representation of border is the separation, yet borders are implied in many operations enabling development, action, thinking, sense-making and relation-making. In this work, borders are considered as dynamic semiotic devices enabling many functions relevant for each living organism and psychic systems as well. Taking into account several border-focused models from psychoanalysis, psychology and semiotics, the author identifies and discusses eight operations carried out by borders: Distinction, Differentiation, Separation, Containment, Protection, Mediation, Transformation and Regulation. Each function is not mutually exclusive but it is recursive in time and works respect to intra/inter-subjective contextual conditions. The Berry phase of wave functions is a key quantity to understand various low-energy properties of matter, among which electric polarisation, orbital magnetism, as well as topological and ultra-relativistic phenomena. Standard approaches to probe the Berry phase in solids rely on the electron dynamics in response to electromagnetic forces. In graphene, probing the Berry phase - of the massless relativistic electrons requires an external magnetic field. Here, we show that the Berry phase also affects the static response of the electrons to a single atomic scatterer, through wavefront dislocations in the surrounding standing-wave interference. This provides a new experimentalmethod to measure the graphene Berry phase in the absence of any magnetic field and demonstrates that local disorder can be exploited as probe of topological quantummatter in scanning tunnelling microscopy experiments. This paper details parts of the work within the Energie.Digital project which aims at developing an integrated representation of building service systems consisting of technical characteristics, physical and functional semantics as well as operating states and state diagrams. This information needs to be machine‐ readable and linkable using a global identification key. The focus of this paper is set on the extraction and aggregation of the semantics of service systems from an Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) file and the development of an ontology based on Semantic Web principles within the environment of the Linked Building Data Community Group of the W3C. Giono enrichit par la psychologie de ses personnages l'approche psychodynamique des réactions humaines face à une épidémie. Les affects déployés, la peur de la mort, la pulsion et le désir de vivre, les réactions de groupe, trouvent leur origine dans cette peur de l'inconnu, comme une réminiscence du trauma de la naissance où le désir suit la pulsion. We are going to confront the scientific description of the cholera and how to prevent and cure it, with the approach described by Giono in his writing. With the character's psychology, he chooses, the author enriches the human psychodynamic way to face the epidemic. The expanded affects, the fear of death, the drive and the willingness to live, the group reactions, originate in this fear of the unknown, as a remnant of the birth trauma, where the desire follows the drive. The article deals with the current state of narrative and narrativity in the situation of new media. After a short reflection on the transmediality of contemporary narrative (through the concept of media object of Axel Bruns) we comment on the changes of viewership in the „Netflix Era", and the situation of participatory media. The core of the article describes a wiki website TVTropes and its concept of „trope". In the TVTropes environment, unaffected by academic literary theory (as far as it seems from the stated sources), a „trope" stands for a frequently recognized part of a story, and not a figure of speech, and thus is much closer to the object of E. R. Curtius „topology". In the end, we reflect on the possible consequences or benefits of the conceptual shift described. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper aims to make a political reading of the new forms of social manifestations by establishing a conceptual scope that allows us to understand, infer, and describe the topological structure of such political manifestations in contemporaneity. In principle, we fundamentally use the concept of group as described by Freud and Canetti, and we question whether it is sufficient for our task or whether we are actually facing a different conjuncture where the concept of multitude, as formulated by Hardt and Negri, would be more accurate for our reading. Itō Toyō (born in 1941) is in the vanguard of a professional lineage that includes numerous eminent architects from the Heisei era. This paper focuses on that era to draw attention to the continuities observed in the way several generations of architects represent their work, and therefore how they design them. By contemplating their drawings and models, we can identify how they apprehend the definition of the borders of space in ways that are unique to their time. Transmission through the graphic medium provides a singular reading of the legacies at play and at times reveals unexpected elements of permanency in the formal topologies of works. Anfang der 1990er Jahre haben die anglophonen Geographien damit begonnen, sich mit dem Verhältnis von Psychoanalyse und Stadt auseinanderzusetzen. Ausgehend hiervon kam es Anfang der 2000er Jahre zum Ausruf eines psychoanalytic turn und zur Etablierung von Subdisziplinen, wie den psychoanalytic geographies und der psychoanalytic planning theory, die in den letzten Jahren zu etablierten Bestandteilen der wissenschaftlichen Auseinandersetzung mit Städten im anglophonen Raum geworden sind. Da ein solcher turn hierzulande ausgeblieben ist, stellt sich dieser Beitrag die Frage nach dem Potential einer psychoanalytischen Stadtforschung im deutschsprachigen Raum. Hierzu verfolgt der Autor die These, dass die Stadt bereits in ihrer Entstehung durch das Unbewusste heimgesucht wird. Das urbane Unbewusste kennzeichnet eine Art konstitutiven Störfaktor, der sich in die Topologie der Stadt einschreibt und die Stadt als Objekt (der Stadtforschung) in letzter Instanz unmöglich macht. Ausgehend von dieser Unmöglichkeit, geht der Beitrag den Fantasien rund um die sozialen, politischen und materiellen Verhältnisse einer Stadt nach. Fantasien spielen aus Sicht der psychoanalytischen Stadtforschung eine zentrale Rolle, um der Stadt eine illusorische Konsistenz zu verleihen und das urbane Unbewusste auf Distanz zu halten. Sie ermöglichen es, sich die Stadt vorzustellen, sie zu fühlen und über sie zu sprechen. Der Beitrag endet schließlich mit ein paar Worten zu den Herausforderungen einer künftigen Erschließung der Psychoanalyse für kritische Stadtforschung.

Linker desymmetrization has been witnessed as a powerful design strategy for the discovery of highly connected metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) with unprecedented topologies. Herein, we introduce molecular pivot‐hinge installation as a linker desymmetrization strategy to evolve the topology of highly connected rare‐earth (RE) MOFs, where a pivot group is placed in the center of a linker similar to a hinge. By tuning the composition of pivot groups and steric hindrances of the substituents on various linker rotamers, MOFs with various topologies can be obtained. The combination of L‐SO2 with C2v symmetry and 12‐connected RE9 clusters leads to the formation of a fascinating (4,12)‐c dfs new topology. Interestingly, when replacing L‐SO2 with a tetrahedra linker L‐O, the stacking behaviors of RE‐organic layers switch from an eclipsed mode to a staggered stacking mode, leading to the discovery of an intriguing hjz topology. Additionally, the combination of the RE cluster and a linker [(L‐(CH3)6)] with more bulky groups gives rise to a flu topology with a new 8‐c inorganic cluster. The diversity of these RE‐MOFs was further enhanced through post‐synthetic installation of linkers with various functional groups. Functionalization of each linker with acidic and basic units in the mesoporous RE‐based PCN‐905‐SO2 allows for efficient cascade catalytic transformation within the functionalized channels. Es konnte gezeigt werden, dass sich ein DNA‐Oligonukleotid der Sequenz d(GCGTG3TCAG3TG3TG3ACGC) mit kurzen, komplementären Überhangsequenzen am 5′‐ und 3′‐Ende in drei unterschiedliche Quadruplexspezies faltet. Dagegen bildet das entsprechende Oligomer ohne Basenkomplementarität der beiden Überhangsequenzen nur eine einzige parallele G‐Quadruplexstruktur. Über einen Vergleich von NMR‐Spektren der polymorphen Probe mit genau definierten G‐Quadruplexen, die über einen gezielten Einbau von syn‐präferierenden 8‐Bromguanosin‐Analoga erhalten wurden, konnten die drei koexistierenden Quadruplexstrukturen eindeutig zugeordnet und strukturell charakterisiert werden. Dabei liegen neben der parallelen Form zwei weitere (3+1)‐Hybridstrukturen vor. Diese weisen mit einem Lateralloop, gefolgt von zwei Propellerloops, eine bisher experimentell noch nicht eindeutig nachgewiesene Looparchitektur auf. Beide Hybridquadruplexe haben die gleiche Topologie und unterscheiden sich nur in den anti→syn‐Abfolgen entlang der G‐Trakte sowie den Stapelwechselwirkungen zwischen den G‐Tetraden.
