Abstract

Leishmania infantum is the vector-borne trypanosomatid parasite causing visceral leishmaniasis in the Mediterranean basin. This neglected tropical disease is treated with a limited number of obsolete drugs that are not exempt from adverse effects and whose overuse has promoted the emergence of resistant pathogens. In the search for novel antitrypanosomatid molecules that help overcome these drawbacks, drug repurposing has emerged as a good strategy. Nitroaromatic compounds have been found in drug discovery campaigns as promising antileishmanial molecules. Fexinidazole (recently introduced for the treatment of stages 1 and 2 of African trypanosomiasis), and pretomanid, which share the nitroimidazole nitroaromatic structure, have provided antileishmanial activity in different studies. In this work, we have tested the in vitro efficacy of these two nitroimidazoles to validate our 384-well high-throughput screening (HTS) platform consisting of L. infantum parasites emitting the near-infrared fluorescent protein (iRFP) as a biomarker of cell viability. These molecules showed good efficacy in both axenic and intramacrophage amastigotes and were poorly cytotoxic in RAW 264.7 and HepG2 cultures. Fexinidazole and pretomanid induced the production of ROS in axenic amastigotes but were not able to inhibit trypanothione reductase (TryR), thus suggesting that these compounds may target thiol metabolism through a different mechanism of action. 9. Agroecología y construcción de ciudadanía en los huertos urbanos de la Ciudad de México

Abstract

This article aims to identify agroecological practices in urban gardens in Mexico City and their relationship with the construction of food citizens-hip. To address this relationship, ten urban gardens (UG) in Mexico City were selected. The collection of information was done through interviews with those mandated for the cultivation spaces, as well as their users, par-ticipant observation was also carried out in events organized by some of the UG. From this approach to urban gardens in Mexico City, we find that there is a tendency to privilege responsibilities over rights, Este artículo tiene por objetivo identificar las prácticas agroecologías en los Huertos Urbanos (hu) de la Ciudad de México y su relación con la construcción de ciudadanía alimentaria. Para abordar esta relación se selec-cionaron 10 de estos hu. La información se recolectó mediante entrevistas a los responsables de los espacios de cultivo, así como a sus usuarios; también se practicó observación participante en eventos organizados por algunos de los hu. A partir de este acercamiento a huertos urbanos en la Ciudad de México encontramos que existe una tendencia a privilegiar las respon-sabilidades sobre los derechos.

Abstract

The study of the multiple processes involved in learning how to read can contribute towards the early detection of good and bad readers. However, it is necessary to take into consideration different biopsychosocial risk factors (pre- and perigestational, neonatal, medical, developmental and family-related) that may have a significant impact on neurodevelopment, producing atypical cognitive development that could lead to the presence of reading difficulties. The objective of this study was to identify the main psycholinguistic abilities involved in the early reading performance and analyse their relationship to biopsychosocial risk factors. A total of 110 subjects between the ages of 4 and 7 years old and enrolled in state-run schools in Spain participated in the study. Significant correlations were found between different psycholinguistic abilities and certain biopsychosocial risk factors (having had hyperbilirubinemia, having obtained a score lower than 9 on the Apgar test, having had language problems or a sibling with dyslexia). This relationship should be taken into account in the study of learning difficulties as a potential indicator to predict later reading development and even the presence of developmental dyslexia.

19. Biologic Therapy for Moderate to Severe Psoriasis. Real-World Follow-up of Patients Who Initiated Biologic Therapy at Least 10 Years Ago

Abstract

[Abstract] Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate response and drug survival of biologic therapy in patients with moderate to severe plaque-type psoriasis who initiated biologic therapy at least 10 years ago, in a real-world setting. Methods: This was an observational retrospective follow-up study that included patients with moderate to severe plaque-type psoriasis who initiated biologic therapy between October 2006 and December 2009. Efficacy was expressed as the percentage of patients achieving a 50, 75 and 90% reduction from baseline in the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI 50, PASI 75, PASI 90, respectively) every 3 months during the first year of therapy and then every 12 months up to the end of follow-up or withdrawal from the study. Results: A total of 56 patients were included in the study, representing 140 treatment lines (median 2, range 1-8); of these patients, 53 were still receiving biologic therapy at the end of the study. The mean duration of biologic therapy was 140.4 (range 47.6-175.4) months. Etanercept was used in 98.2% of patients, followed by efalizumab (42.9%), adalimumab (41.1%), ustekinumab (33.9%) and infliximab (16.1%). Treatment lines were switched in 62.1% of treatments: 24.3% due to secondary failure, 20.7% due to primary failure and 3.6% due to side effects. No patient treated with anti-interleukins had to discontinue treatment due to side effects. Ustekinumab had the highest drug survival. Conclusions: This study in the real-world-setting shows maintenance of long-term efficacy and safety of biologic therapy in patients with moderate to severe plaque psoriasis in daily practice who initiated biologic therapy 10 years ago.

Abstract

International audience; OBJECTIVES: To delineate the clustering of energy balance-related behaviors in adolescents and investigate whether these behaviors are associated with the household socioeconomic status and parental education level. METHODS: Two cross-sectional studies assessed information on sedentary behavior, physical activity, sugar-sweetened beverages and fruit and vegetable consumption, and sleep duration by self-reported questionnaires in adolescents (12.5-17.5 years old) from Maringa/Brazil (BRACAH Study; n = 682) and ten European cities (HELENA Study; n = 1252) from nine different countries. Gender-specific cluster analyses were performed separately for each study, applying a combination of hierarchical and non-hierarchical methods. RESULTS: Girls showed equivalent behaviors: Sedentary; Active; Unhealthy Eating; Healthy Eating; while boys differed (Brazilian: Sedentary; Active; Healthy Eating; European: Sedentary; Healthy; Unhealthy Eating). In Brazil, we found no association between socioeconomic status and parental education. In European girls, the high socioeconomic status and both parents' university degree were associated with Healthy Eating. In European boys, the high socioeconomic status was associated with Unhealthy Eating, and the mothers' university degree was associated with the Healthy cluster. CONCLUSIONS: Adolescents show Sedentary behavior, regardless of their sex, country of origin, or socioeconomic condition.

En 2018 la Suprema Corte de Justicia de la Nación (en adelante SCJN) aprobó la resolución 163/2018, que establece un importante precedente al considerar el bienestar animal como principio implícito de la Constitución y como límite al derecho a la cultura y a prácticas culturales que resultan contrarias a los principios de un Estado democrático de Derecho. In 2018 the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation, passed Resolution 163/2018, establishing the important precedent of considering animal welfare as an implicit principle in the Constitution and as a limit to the law and to culture and cultural practices that go against the principles of a democratic state of law.

Abstract

The paper analyzes the uses of the Spanish indefinite pronoun uno, in a diaphasic oral corpus, which is organized by communicative situations ranging from formal monologues to colloquial conversations with family and friends. The description incorporates a basic distinction between the communicative and the thematic role of the sentences where the indefinite pronoun appears, as well as the pragmatic parameters of referential accessibility, interlocutivity and genericity, which allow observing the alternations with other pronouns in the communicative space of the discursive universe in the context of the conversation. The main results show a depersonalizationpersonalization operation linked to the interlocutory relationship that, in addition to the generic character traditionally assigned to the pronoun uno, allows describing an expressive and an appellative use, in a continuum of specificity-genericity. Abstract

Treball Final de Grau en Economia. Codi: EC1049. Curs acadèmic: 2019-2020 Corruption studies have become more important in recent years. This paper aims to present a literature review on the subject, which shows a table with a summary of studies conducted by other authors and then a description of the determinants to be considered in this studies, it also takes into account that the probability of being exposed slows down the expansion of corruption. It is considered econometric specifications using panel data from 26 European Union countries between 2005 and 2015, to see what determinants can be used when designing strategies. . The determinants of corruption are going to be analyzed from the point of view of several economic models and historical factors. The objective of this paper is to analyze the impact of the different determinants of corruption and to make a comparison between regions where the studied factors have registered different values. To do so, we have based our research on different indexes, for example the IPC (index of perception of corruption), comparing the European Union with other regions of the world. The model is estimated using instrumental variables techniques; comparing variables the inequality and openness of the regions with the level of corruption.

Abstract

Los siglos XIX y XX han sido testigos de una evolución extraordinaria, tanto en el aspecto demográfico como económico, consolidándose la Revolución Industrial, También han sido el escenario en el que se ha desarrollado el transporte moderno, basado en la motorización, primero en base al vapor y posteriormente en base a los derivados del petróleo y de la electricidad. El ferrocarril es el primer modo revolucionario que cambia la forma de moverse en el medio terrestre, aunque a principios del siglo XX aparece de manera imparable el automóvil, que alcanzará un protagonismo indiscutible hasta nuestros días. La evolución de estos modos de transporte y su relación con el territorio de la provincia de Alicante constituyen la parte fundamental de nuestro trabajo de investigación, que hemos acotado al desarrollo del sistema de transporte público regular interurbano de viajeros por carretera. La actividad del transporte consiste en el traslado de personas y mercancías de un lugar a otro, para lo cual precisa de unas infraestructuras adecuadas para que circulen los vehículos portadores. En lo referente al transporte, sobre todo de personas, tienen un carácter determinante las condiciones demográficas y orográficas del territorio, que son peculiares en la provincia de Alicante. Nuestro objetivo, ha sido el estudio de las relaciones del territorio provincial con el sistema de transporte público regular interurbano de viajeros por carretera y de cómo este sistema ha sido capaz de crear las redes, tanto de ámbito comarcal como provincial, que atienden una parte significativa de la demanda de movilidad de la población. En este proceso, hemos comprobado las interrelaciones del territorio, con las infraestructuras y la demografía, así como de la Administración con sus concesionarios, que, bajo la tutela de una legislación específica, hace que el sector tenga unas características singulares. Abstract

The thesis situates in the context of Bowen Family Systems Theory. Thesis’ introduction presents Bowen Theory’s systemic themes and core constructs that were originally developed from clinical observations of nuclear families. Thesis’ main corpus consists of four published articles. Two of the articles ground in clinical findings made during my family and school counselling practice (concerning the potential fallacies of medical-model oriented diagnoses, and the potential detrimental effects of co-sleeping family practice). Remaining two articles examine theoretically and extend empirically Bowen Theory’s cross-cultural applicability. Thesis concludes with an integrative discussion of the published articles with current empirical literature

Abstract

Un número considerable de estudiantes presenta dificultades de aprendizaje y bajo rendimiento académico, sin embargo su evaluación no siempre deriva en un diagnóstico concreto. Son categorizados como inmaduros, pero no se determinan ni la naturaleza ni las características de sus dificultades. El objetivo fue identificar los dominios evolutivos afectados en niños con retraso del desarrollo (RD) y valorar el concepto de dificultades neuroevolutivas como constructo comprensivo de las dificultades generali-zadas de aprendizaje. Para ello, se realizó una revisión sistemática en las ba-ses electrónicas Medline, PsycINFO, WOS, Eric, Dialnet y CSIC y, tras aplicar los criterios de inclusión, se seleccionaron 18 artículos. Los resulta-dos confirman que RD se utiliza como etiqueta diagnóstica para caracteri-zar a niños con retrasos significativos en uno o varios ámbitos del desarrollo, pero no existe una definición de consenso ni criterios específicos para su diagnóstico, y solo sería de aplicación a niños de corta edad. Los dominios afectados coinciden con funciones neuroevolutivas y, en su etiología, destacan factores de riesgo biológico y ambiental. Se constata la persistencia en la niñez de las dificultades neuroevolutivas y su asociación con las dificultades generalizas en el aprendizaje de años escolares, apuntando a las primeras como constructo explicativo de las segundas, A considerable number of students have learning difficulties and low academic performance, yet their evaluation does not always lead to a concrete diagnosis. They are categorized as immature, but neither the na-ture nor the characteristics of their difficulties are determined. The aim of this study was to identify the developmental domains which are affected in children with developmental delay (DD) and assess the concept of neuro-developmental difficulties as a comprehensive construct of generalized learning difficulties. To this end, a systematic review was carried out on the electronic databases Medline, PsycINFO, WOS, Eric, Dialnet and CSIC and, after applying the inclusion criteria, 18 articles were selected. The re-sults confirm that DD is used as a diagnostic label to characterize children with significant delays in one or more developmental domains, but there is no definition of consensus nor specific criteria for its diagnosis, and it is only to young children. The affected domains coincide with neurodevel-opmental functions, and biological and environmental risk factors stand out in their aetiology. The association between a persistence of neurode-velopmental difficulties in childhood and generalized learning difficulties is verified, suggesting that the former are an explicative construct of the second
