Abstract

End-to-end deep learning approaches has been proven to be efficient in autonomous driving and robotics. By using deep learning techniques for decision-making, those systems are often referred to as a black box, and the result is driven by data. In this paper, we propose PaaS (Planning as a Service), a vanilla module to generate local trajectory planning for autonomous driving in CARLA simulation. Our method is submitted in International CARLA Autonomous Driving Leaderboard (CADL), which is a platform to evaluate the driving proficiency of autonomous agents in realistic traffic scenarios. Our approach focuses on reactive planning in Frenet frame under complex urban street's constraints and driver's comfort. The planner generates a collection of feasible trajectories, leveraging heuristic cost functions with controllable driving style factor to choose the optimal-control path that satisfies safe travelling criteria. PaaS can provide sufficient solutions to handle well under challenging traffic situations in CADL. As the strict evaluation in CADL Map Track, our approach ranked 3rd out of 9 submissions regarding the measure of driving score. However, with the focus on minimizing the risk of maneuver and ensuring passenger safety, our figures corresponding to infraction penalty dominate the two leading submissions for 20 percent., Comment: accepted on 05.06.2023, revised on 15.06.2023, to be published on ICSSE 2023

Abstract

Virtual worlds are 3D online persistent multi-user environments where users interact through avatars. Virtual worlds are used for many activities including gaming, education, socialising and consumer-related activities. The focus of the investigation in this dissertation is on consumers' perceptions of the consumption process in Second Life, a virtual world. The consumption process in Second Life involves the acquisition, purchase and appropriation of virtual products for avatars. In this research project, research methods such as phenomenological interviews, laddering interviews and structured interviews were used to elicit consumers' perceptions of the consumption process in Second Life. The interviews were analysed by applying descriptive-phenomenology, thematic analysis and means-end chain analysis. The contribution of this research project has been an empirically-grounded understanding of consumers' perceptions of the consumption process in Second Life, including an understanding of virtual world affordances and consumers' needs during the consumption process. The theoretical contributions of this research project have been (1) phenomenological descriptions of the consumption process, (2) an analysis of virtual world affordances, such as 3D storefronts, teleportation, presence of others and access to websites, and (3) an understanding of how virtual world affordances address consumers' needs during the consumption process. Further, the practical contribution of this research has been the development of design guidelines for designers, developers and businesses: these guidelines can be applied to design and evaluate e-commerce environments that share similar features and affordances with Second Life.

36. Robust Indoor Positioning of Automated Guided Vehicles in Internet of Things Networks With Deep Convolution Neural Network Considering Adversarial Attacks

Abstract

The effectiveness of positioning techniques that utilize the receiver signal strength (RSS) is highly dependent on the instability of the received signal strength indicator (RSSI). Up to now, there is no strategy that effectively lowers the influence of such instability on the accuracy of positioning. Moreover, recent studies showed that indoor positioning techniques are vulnerable to noise in RSSI data and cyber-attacks, which make them more expensive. In this study, a new Internet of Things (IoT) paradigm is proposed for the indoor positioning of automated guided vehicles (AGVs) using a deep convolution neural network (CNN). The proposed method handles signal processing by converting the RSSI signal into an image. In which, the 1-D RSSI signal is converted into 2-D image data in order to generate the new features based on continuous wavelet transform (CWT), and then the proposed deep CNN is implemented for the indoor positioning system. The test results show that the proposed model can outperform other state-of-the-art positioning techniques with small position errors. Furthermore, the robustness of the proposed model is validated against various adversarial attacks. In addition, the proposed method can have a lower impact on RSSI change compared with other methods.

Abstract

The problem of tension and shear of a thin isotropic plate weakened by a doubly periodic system of rectilinear cracks with end zones is considered. General representations of solutions are constructed that describes a class of problems with a doubly periodic stress distribution outside cracks. The main singular integral equation of the problem is reduced to an infinite system of algebraic equations. Due to the unknown size of the end zone, the system of equations turned out to be non-linear even with a linear bond deformation law.

Abstract

Kovir capsule, a polyherbal medicine developed from Ren Shen Bai Du San formulation, has been used in various diseases including respiratory infections. A randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind study was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of Kovir capsule (TD0069) in the treatment of mild COVID-19 patients. Patients aged from 18 to 65 years who were PCR-confirmed with SARS-CoV-2 and had the mild disease were recruited and randomized to either Kovir capsule (34 patients) or placebo (32 patients) for up to 14 days or until discharge. Efficacy outcomes were time to viral clearance, daily viral load, time to symptom resolution, daily symptom score based on 16 pre-defined symptoms, and progression to severe/critical COVID-19. Safety outcomes were adverse events. Viral load decreased over time similarly in the two groups. Viral clearance time was also similar in both groups (median: 8 days). Kovir group had a more rapid decrease of symptom score and significantly lower time to symptom resolution than placebo (median: 4 vs. 7 days). Two patients in the placebo group developed severe COVID-19. No patient experienced adverse events. Kovir capsule is safe and can improve symptom resolution in mild COVID-19 patients. A large-scale trial is required to confirm these findings.

Abstract

The European 1 MW, 170 GHz industrial CW prototype gyrotron has been designed within EGYC (European GYrotron Consortium) in collaboration with the industrial partner Thales Electron Devices (TED) and under the coordination of Fusion for Energy (F4E). This is a conventional (hollow) cavity gyrotron that is based on the 1 MW, 170 GHz short-pulse (SP) modular gyrotron, which has been designed and manufactured by KIT in collaboration with TED. The SP prototype has been tested in multiple experimental campaigns since 2015 and the nominal cavity mode TE32,9 is exited at 170.1 GHz, producing RF power above 1 MW with 35 % interaction efficiency. Abstract

The magnetron injection gun (MIG) is one of the most critical subcomponents in gyrotrons. The electron beam, which has the primary role on the gyrotron operation, is generated and configured at this part of the tube. The electron beam properties determine the excitation mode in the cavity, the power of the generated microwaves and the gyrotron efficiency. The operation of MIGs could be influenced by several factors such as trapped electrons, manufacturing tolerances, roughness of the emitter ring, emitter temperature inhomogeneity, electron beam neutralization effect, etc. The influence of many of these factors on the electron beam quality has been systematically investigated during the last years. Several novelties have been proposed in order to limit the influence of these factors on the gyrotron operation. In particular, new design criteria have been proposed for the suppression of electron trapping mechanisms, a new type of the emitter ring has been proposed to minimize the influence of the manufacturing tolerances and edge effects on the beam quality, alternative MIG design approaches have been proposed, etc. An overview of all these works will be presented here.
