Objective: Public health interventions promoted during the SARS‐CoV‐2 pandemic to control viral spread have impacted the occurrence of other communicable disease. Yet no studies have focused on perinatal infections with the potential for neonatal sequelae, including cytomegalovirus (CMV) and Toxoplasma gondii (TG). Here we investigate whether incidence rates of maternal primary CMV and TG infection in pregnancy were affected by the implementation of pandemic‐related public health measures. Methods: A retrospective study including all pregnant women with confirmed primary CMV or TG infection in pregnancy, managed between 2018 and 2021 at two university centers. The incidence rate was calculated as the number of CMV and TG infections per 100 consultations with a 95% confidence interval (CI). Data were compared between pre‐pandemic (2018–2019) and pandemic (2020 and 2021) years. The Newcombe Wilson with Continuity Correction method was employed to compare incidence rates. Results: The study population included 215 maternal primary CMV and 192 TG infections. Rate of maternal primary CMV infection decreased in 2021 compared with 2018–2019 (4.49% vs 6.40%, attributable risk [AR] 1.92, P = 0.019). By contrast, the rate of TG infection substantially increased in 2020 (6.95% vs 4.61%, AR 2.34, P = 0.006). Close contact with cats was more common among patients with TG infection in 2020 and 2021 than among pre‐pandemic TG‐infected women (26.3% and 24.4% vs 13.3%, P = 0.013). Conclusion: Pandemic‐related public health interventions and associated behavioral and lifestyle changes exerted a divergent effect on the incidence of primary CMV and TG infection in pregnancy, likely due to modulation of exposure to risk factors for these infections. Traumatic spinal injuries (TSI) are associated with high morbidity, mortality, and resource utilization. The epidemiology of TSI varies greatly across different countries and regions and is impacted by national income levels, infrastructure, and cultural factors. Further, there may be changes over time. It is essential to investigate TSI to gain useful epidemiologic information. However, there have been no recent studies on trends for TSI in the US, despite the changing population demographics, healthcare policy, and technology. As a result, reexamination is warranted to reflect how the modern era has affected the epidemiology of US spine trauma patients and their management. To determine epidemiologic trends in traumatic spine injuries over time. Retrospective analysis; level 1 trauma center in the United States. A total of 21,811 patients, between the years of 1996 and 2022, who presented with traumatic spine injury. Age, sex, race, Injury Severity Score, mechanism of injury, injury diagnosis, injury level, rate of operative intervention, hospital length of stay, intensive care unit length of stay, discharge disposition, in-hospital mortality. Data was collected from our institutional trauma registry over a 26-year period. Inclusion criteria involved at least one diagnosis of vertebral fracture, spinal cord injury, spinal subluxation, or intervertebral disc injury. Exclusion criteria consisted of patients with no diagnosed spine injury or a diagnosis of strain only. A total of 21,811 patients were included in the analysis. Descriptive statistics were tabulated and ordinary least squares linear regression was conducted for trends analysis. Regression analysis showed a significant upward trend in patient age (+13.83 years, β=+0.65/year, p<.001), female sex (+2.7%, β=+0.18%/year, p=.004), falls (+10.5%, β=+0.82%/year, p<.001), subluxations (+12.8%, β=+0.35%/year, p<.001), thoracic injuries (+1.5%, β=+0.28%/year, p<.001), and discharges to subacute rehab (+15.9%, β=+0.68%/year, p<.001). There was a significant downward trend in motor vehicle crashes (-7.8%, β=-0.47%/year, p=.016), firearms injuries (-3.4%, β=-0.19%/year, p<.001), sports/recreation injuries (-2.9%, β=-0.18%/year, p<.001), spinal cord injuries (-11.25%, β=-0.37%, p<.001), complete spinal cord injuries (-7.6%, β=-0.24%/year, p<.001), and discharges to home (+4.5%, β=-0.27%/year, p=.011). At our institution, the average spine trauma patient has trended toward older females. Falls represent an increasing proportion of the mechanism of injury, on a trajectory to become the most common cause. With time, there have been fewer spinal cord injuries and a lower proportion of complete injuries. At discharge, there has been a surge in the utilization of subacute rehabilitation facilities. Purpose: Mental disorders remain the leading causes of disability worldwide. We aimed to determine the burden and trends of mental disorders in China from 1990 to 2019. Methods: The incidence, prevalence, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of mental disorders at national level of China were examined by age, sex, and subcategories. Temporal trends in the age-standardized rates for incidence, prevalence, and DALYs were assessed by the average annual percentage change (AAPC). All estimates are presented as numbers and age-standardized rates, with 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs). Results: The number of incident cases due to mental disorders increased from 42.90 million to 52.72 million, the number of prevalent cases increased from 132.63 million to 160.16 million, and the number of DALYs increased from 15.64 million to 20.29 million during 1990–2019. Decreasing trends were observed in the age-standardized rates for incidence, prevalence and DALYs. Anxiety and depressive disorders were more frequent in women, while ADHD, conduct disorder, and autism spectrum disorders were more common in men. Compared with 1990, the age-specific incidence rates were higher in individuals under 14 years and over 55 years, whereas rates were lower in those aged 15–49 years in 2019. Conclusion: The number of incident cases, prevalent cases, and DALYs due to mental disorders gradually increased in China from 1990 to 2019. Anxiety and depressive disorders were the leading causes of burden due to mental disorders, which affected women more than men. In the last 30 years, there are many publications in the literature due to global warming and climate change impacts exhibiting non-stationary behaviors in hydro-meteorology time series records especially in the forms of increasing or decreasing trends. The conventional trend analyzes cover the entire recording time with a single straight-line trend and slope. These methods do not provide information about up and down partial moving trends evolution at shorter durations along the entire record length. This paper proposes a dynamic methodology for identifying such evolutionary finite duration moving trend method (MTM) identifications and interpretations. The purpose of choosing MTM was to investigate the dynamic partial trend evolution over the recording period so that dry (decreasing trend) and wet (increasing trend) segments could be objectively identified and these trends could assist in water resources management in the study area. The moving trend analysis is like the classical moving average methodology with one important digression that instead of arithmetic averages and their horizontal line representations, a series of finite duration successive increasing and decreasing trends are identified over a given hydro-meteorology time series record. In general, partial moving trends of 10-year, 20-year, 30-year and 40-year occur above or below the overall trend and thus provide practical insight into the dynamic trend pattern with important implications. We show that over the last two decades, India's effective tax rates (ETRs) have increased by 7.8 percent, which contrasts with the downward trend in ETRs for US firms documented by Dyreng et al. (2017). After controlling for changes in firm characteristics, macroeconomic factors, and tax policy changes, our findings show that ETRs increased by 0.37 percent per year during the sample period. Further, we examine the proposition that public firms are more likely to engage in non-conforming tax management than private firms. We observe a stronger upward trend in ETRs among private firms than public firms, consistent with the capital market pressure hypothesis. The permanent book-tax difference is the primary driver of the ETR trend for both private and public firms. Our findings contribute to the recent debate about the trend in ETRs by undermining concerns regarding rising corporate tax avoidance and reinforcing the argument that improved tax efficiency and economies of agglomeration in countries with large domestic markets contribute to higher ETRs. The characteristics of early-onset (onset age <50 years) and later-onset (onset age ≽ 50 years) cancers differ significantly. Identifying novel risk factors for both types of cancer is crucial for increasing awareness of cancer prevention and for reducing its burden. This study aimed to analyze the trends in incidence and risk factors for early-onset and late-onset cancers. We conducted a prospective study by drawing data from the Kailuan Study. This study included 6,741 participants with cancer (624 with early-onset cancer and 6,117 with later-onset cancer) and 6,780 matched controls among the 186,249 participants who underwent Kailuan health examinations from 2006 to 2019. The primary outcomes were cancer incidence rates, and associated risk factors for early- and later-onset cancer. Weighted Cox regression was used to calculate hazard ratios and 95% confidence intervals of each exposure factor for early- and later-onset cancer by cancer type. Population-attributable risk proportions were used to estimate the number of cases that could be prevented by eliminating a risk factor from the population. Except for liver cancer, incidence rates for nearly all types of cancer increased during the study period. Smoking, alcohol consumption, lipid metabolism disorders, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, fatty liver, and inflammation were associated with a significantly increased risk of cancer at multiple sites, but risk factors for cancer incidence differed by site. Smoking, alcohol consumption, inflammation, and hypertension were the major contributors to preventable cancer. The incidence of several different types of cancer, including early-onset cancer, is increasing in northeastern China. Differences in risk factors between early-onset and later-onset malignancies may contribute to the divergence in the observed changes in incidence trends between these two specific types of cancer. Background: Early neonatal deaths, occurring within the first six days of life, remain a critical public health challenge. Understanding the trends and factors associated with this issue is crucial for designing effective interventions and achieving global health goals. This study aims to examine the trends in early neonatal mortality in Ethiopia and identify the key factors associated with changes in early neonatal mortality over time. Methods: This study utilized five consecutive Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey datasets from 2000 to 2019. To investigate the trends and identify factors influencing changes in early neonatal mortality over time, conducted a trend analysis and a logit-based multivariate decomposition analysis. Data management and analyses were performed using STATA version 17/MP software. All analyses were weighted to account for sampling probabilities and non-response. Statistical significance was determined at a two-sided p-value threshold of less than 0.05. Result: The analysis included a total of 12,260 weighted women from the 2000 survey and 5,527 weighted women from the 2019 survey. Over the study period, there was an overall downward trend in early neonatal mortality, decreasing from 34 deaths per 1000 live births in 2000 to 27 deaths per 1000 live births in 2019. The annual rate of reduction was estimated to be 1.03%. Approximately 45% of the observed decline in early neonatal mortality rate can be attributed to changes in population characteristics or endowments (E) during the study period. Factors such as the mother's age, maternal education, marital status, preceding birth interval, types of pregnancy, and the sex of the child significantly contributed to the compositional change in the early neonatal mortality rate. Conclusion: Over the past two decades, Ethiopia has seen a modest decline in early neonatal mortality, but this progress falls short of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) targets. To achieve the SDGs, the Ministry of Health and its partners should intensify efforts to reduce early neonatal mortality. Strategies like preventing early/late pregnancies, promoting appropriate marriage timing, and prioritizing education could help further reduce early neonatal deaths. Thyroid cancer (TC) is a significant global healthcare burden. However, the lack of comprehensive data has impeded our understanding of its global impact. We aimed to examine the burden of TC and its trends at the global, regional, and national levels using data stratified by sociodemographic index (SDI), sex, and age. Data on TC, including incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2021, were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were calculated to assess the incidence rate, mortality, and DALYs trends. The incidence, mortality, and DALYs of TC in 2021 were 249,538 (95% uncertainty interval: 223,290–274,638), 44,799 (39,925–48,541), and 646,741 (599,119–717,357), respectively. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) in 2021 was 2.914 (2.607–3.213), with an EAPC of 1.25 (1.14–1.37) compared to 1990. In 2021, the age-standardized death rate (ASDR) was 0.53 (0.47–0.575) and age-standardized DALYs rate was 14.571 (12.783–16.115). Compared with 1990, the EAPCs of ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate showed decreasing trends, at − 0.24 (− 0.27 to − 0.21) and − 0.14 (− 0.17 to − 0.11), respectively. Low SDI regions showed the highest ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, at 0.642 (0.516–0.799) and 17.976 (14.18–23.06), respectively. Low-middle SDI regions had the highest EAPCs for ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, at 0.74 (0.71–0.78) and 0.67 (0.63–0.7), respectively. Females exhibited decreasing trend in ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, with EAPCs of − 0.58 (− 0.61 to − 0.55) and − 0.45 (− 0.47 to − 0.42), respectively. In contrast, males showed an increasing trend in ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, with EAPCs of 0.41 (0.35–0.46) for both. In high-income regions, most countries with decreased annual changes in deaths experience increasing age-related deaths. Over the past few decades, a notable increase in TC incidence and decreased mortality has been observed globally. Regions characterized by lower SDI, male sex, and an aging population exhibited no improvement in TC mortality. ABSTRACT Background Methods Results Conclusion Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a common chronic skin disorder in children. We aimed to investigate trends and regional disparities of burden in paediatric AD at global, regional and national levels, and to explore potential associated factors.Based on data from Global Burden of Disease study 2019, we assessed trends in burden of AD aged <19 years from 1990 to 2019, including prevalent and incident cases, age‐standardised prevalence and age‐standardised incidence. For potential associated factors, correlations of above trends and indexes of socio‐economic status (sociodemographic index, SDI) and health service coverage (universal health coverage index, UHCI) were evaluated. We conducted decomposition analysis to understand the net contribution of population‐level factors and their contribution proportions on changes of prevalent and incident cases, including age structure, population change and epidemiological change.Global prevalent and incident cases of paediatric AD increased by about 5.7 and 0.7 million between 1990 and 2019, respectively. Global age‐standardised prevalence and incidence decreased by −0.17% (−0.19% to −0.16%) and −0.12% (−0.13% to −0.11%) per year from 1990 to 2019, respectively. Regionally, the highest increase of prevalent and incident cases was in low SDI region (by 96.77% and 84.85%); the highest decrease of age‐standardised prevalence and incidence was in high SDI regions (by −0.20% and −0.27% per year). The correlation analyses identified significant negative correlations between trends and SDI and UHCI. Population change was a major driver of case rise; epidemiological change and age structure showed negative impact of case rise. Regional disparities in contribution of three population‐level factors were seen, including net contribution direction (positive or negative) and contribution proportion levels.Global paediatric AD case numbers increased, primarily due to population growth. Prevalence and incidence decreased slightly. Geographic inequalities were seen. Developing region‐specific strategies targeting potential factors is essential to reduce paediatric AD burden. Physical inactivity can lead to frailty and negative health outcomes in middleaged to older adults. Sedentary individuals have double the risk of death compared to those who engage in high levels of physical activity (PA). The advantages of practicing PA in older age are significant, with regular, moderate-intensity activity (150 min per week)being consistently linked with a decreased risk of chronic disease, cognitive decline, and mortality. Therefore, the study aimed to carry out a bibliometric review related to the terms "Physical activity," "Functional capacity" and "Aging" including all the documents published in the Web of Science Core Collection until 31st December 2023. The sample was made up of 231 studies related to the topic. The results reported that the first document was published in 1994. However, there was no continuity in the publication of the documents till 1998, which was the first year with at least one document published. Considering 1998 as the first year, it is observed an exponential growth of 77.4%, between the oldest (1997-2008) and contemporaneous studies (2008-2023), in which "Geriatric Gerontology" was the Web of Science category with the highest number of documents (n = 59). The journal "Experimental Gerontology" was associated with the largest number of published documents (n = 7), being indexed in Quartil 2. The years 2009 had the highest number of citations (n = 1811), with a total of 7 documents published and 2018 with the higher number of documents (n = 25). These results reported the importance of PA in elderly people, and how it influences the risk of falls, improving the balance and the functional capacity. Background: Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) has been identified as a significant contributor to the cancer burden. This study investigates the incidence, mortality, and survival trends of NHL cancer in Brunei Darussalam from 2011 to 2020. Methods: This is a registry-based retrospective study using de-identified data from the Brunei Darussalam Cancer Registry on patients diagnosed with NHL from 2011 to 2020 based on the ICD-10 codes C82-86. Statistical methods include descriptive statistics, age-specific and age-standardised incidence (ASIR) and mortality rates (ASMR), and joinpoint regression for trend analysis. Survival analysis was conducted using Kaplan-Meier plots, log-rank test, and Cox Proportional Hazards regression. Results: From 2011 to 2020, 330 patients were diagnosed with NHL. The majority of patients were males (51.8%) and of Malay descent (82.7%). The age group most diagnosed was 55–74 years (42.3%), with a mean age at diagnosis being 55.1 years. The ASIRs were 12.12 for males and 10.39 per 100,000 for females; ASMRs were 6.11 for males and 4.76 per 100,000 for females. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma was the most prevalent subtype, accounting for 39.1% of cases. The overall 5-year survival rate was 61.2%, with lower rates observed in older patients and those diagnosed at distant metastasis stage. Furthermore, older age and advanced stage diagnosis significantly increased mortality risk. NHL incidence and mortality rates in Brunei Darussalam remain stable over the period of 10 years, but highlights significant disparities in gender and age. Conclusions: The findings emphasize the importance of early detection and tailored treatments, especially for high-risk groups, in managing NHL's burden. Background: Lung cancer (LC) is one of the most common malignant tumors in the world and the leading cause of cancer-related deaths, which seriously threatens human life and health as well as brings a heavy burden to the society. In recent years, the tumor microenvironment (TME) has become an emerging research field and hotspot affecting tumor pathogenesis and therapeutic approaches. However, to date, there has been no bibliometric analysis of lung cancer and the tumor microenvironment from 2014 to 2023. This study aims to comprehensively summarize the current situation and development trends in the field from a bibliometric perspective. Methods: The publications about lung cancer and the tumor microenvironment from 2014 to 2023 were extracted from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC). The Microsoft Excel, Origin, R-bibliometrix, CiteSpace, and VOSviewer software are comprehensively used to scientifically analyze the data. Results: Totally, 763 publications were identified in this study. A rapid increase in the number of publications was observed after 2018. More than 400 organizations published these publications in 36 countries or regions. China and the United States have significant influence in this field. Zhou, CC and Frontiers in Immunology are the most productive authors and journals respectively. Besides, the most frequently cited references were those on lung cancer pathogenesis, clinical trials, and treatment modalities. It suggests that novel lung cancer treatment models mainly based on the TME components, such as cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) may lead to future research trends. Conclusions: The field of lung cancer and the tumor microenvironment research is still in the beginning stages. Gene expression, molecular pathways, therapeutic modalities, and novel detection technologies in this field have been widely studied by researchers. This is the first bibliometric study to comprehensively summarize the research trend and development regarding lung cancer and tumor microenvironment over the last decade. The result of our research provides the updated perspective for scholars to understand the key information and cutting-edge hotspots in this field, as well as to identify future research directions. The prevalence of obesity has been increasing in the US. Among the multifactorial contributors to obesity, dietary factors stand out as primary drivers. Using data from NHANES, we investigated the trends and disparities in diet quality and nutrient intake among US adults with different bodyweight statuses. Participants were divided into normal weight, overweight, and obese groups based on BMI. Diet quality was examined using HEI-2020. Nutrient intake was estimated based on the USDA Food and Nutrient Database for Dietary Studies. From 1999 to 2020, Despite an overall improvement in diet quality among overweight and obese US adults, disparities persisted for most HEI-2020 components, and worsened for whole grains, seafood and plant proteins, and fatty acids between normal weight and obese participants. Overweight and obese participants tended to consume less energy from total carbohydrates and more from total fat. The estimated total energy intake increased among obese participants over the past two decades, while no significant changes were observed among normal weight and overweight participants. In the 2017–2020 period, obese participants had lower HEI-2020 scores than both normal weight and overweight participants. Background: Perinatal mortality is a global health problem, especially in Ethiopia, which has the highest perinatal mortality rate. Studies about perinatal mortality were conducted in Ethiopia, but which factors specifically contribute to the change in perinatal mortality across time is unknown. Objectives: To assess the trend and multivariate decomposition of perinatal mortality in Ethiopia using EDHS 2005–2016. Methods: A community-based, cross-sectional study design was used. EDHS 2005–2016 data was used, and weighting has been applied to adjust the difference in the probability of selection. Logit-based multivariate decomposition analysis was used using STATA version 14.1. The best model was selected using the lowest AIC value, and variables were selected with a p-value less than 0.05 at 95% CI. Result: The trend of perinatal mortality in Ethiopia decreased from 37 per 1000 births in 2005 to 33 per 1000 births in 2016. About 83.3% of the decrease in perinatal mortality in the survey was attributed to the difference in the endowment (composition) of the women. Among the differences in the endowment, the difference in the composition of ANC visits, taking the TT vaccine, urban residence, occupation, secondary education, and birth attendant significantly decreased perinatal mortality in the last 10 years. Among the differences in coefficients, skilled birth attendants significantly decreased perinatal mortality. Conclusion and recommendation: The perinatal mortality rate in Ethiopia has declined over time. Variables like ANC visits, taking the TT vaccine, urban residence, occupation, secondary education, and skilled birth attendants reduce perinatal mortality. Background: Cervical and breast cancers are among the top 4 leading causes of cancer-related mortality in women. This study aimed to examine age-specific temporal trends in mortality for cervical and breast cancers in urban and rural areas of China from 2009 to 2021. Methods: Age-specific mortality data for cervical and breast cancers among Chinese women aged 20–84 years were obtained from China's National Disease Surveillance Points system spanning the years 2009 to 2021. Negative binomial regression models were utilized to assess urban–rural differences in mortality rate ratios, while Joinpoint models with estimated average annual percent changes (AAPC) and slopes were employed to compare temporal trends and the acceleration of mortality rates within different age groups. Results: From 2009 to 2021, there was a relative increase in age-specific mortality associated with the two cancers observed in rural areas compared with urban areas. A rising trend in the screening age of 35–64 [AAPC: 4.0%, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.5–7.6%, P = 0.026] for cervical cancer was noted in rural areas, while a stable trend (AAPC: − 0.7%, 95% CI − 5.8 to 4.6%, P = 0.78) was observed in urban areas. As for breast cancer, a stable trend (AAPC: 0.3%, 95% CI − 0.3 to 0.9%, P = 0.28) was observed in rural areas compared to a decreasing trend (AAPC: − 2.7%, 95% CI − 4.6 to − 0.7%, P = 0.007) in urban areas. Urban–rural differences in mortality rates increased over time for cervical cancer but decreased for breast cancer. Mortality trends for both cervical and breast cancers showed an increase with age across 4 segments, with the most significant surge in mortality observed among the 35–54 age group across urban and rural areas, periods, and regions in China. Conclusions: Special attention should be given to women aged 35–54 years due to mortality trends and rural–urban disparities. Joinpoint regression software was used to calculate the annual percentage change (APC) of rates.The rate of hospitalisation for total infections increased with an APC of 2.6% (95% CI: 1.5, 3.7) among people with type 1 diabetes, 3.6% (2.6, 4.6) among people with type 2 diabetes, and 2.5% (1.3, 3.9) in the general population. Increasing rates were observed for sepsis, influenza, kidney infections, osteomyelitis, cellulitis, and foot infections in all groups. The rate of hospitalisation for urinary tract infection declined among people with type 2 diabetes though it was stable in other groups. The rate of hospitalisation for respiratory tract infections was stable among people with type 1 diabetes but increased in other groups. AbstractObjectiveMethodsResultsConclusionsThis study aimed to evaluate trends in polypharmacy prevalence among adults with asthma in the United States.Data from the 2001–2020 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey were used to estimate the weighted prevalence of polypharmacy. Joinpoint regression analysis was conducted to evaluate trends in polypharmacy. Trends were first evaluated overall and then stratified by asthma severity and asthma control. A multivariable logistic regression model was used to identify factors associated with polypharmacy.From 2001 to 2020, a stable trend in polypharmacy among U.S. adults with asthma was observed (average annual percent change [AAPC]=1.02, p=0.71). Trends across different asthma severity were stable (mild asthma: AAPC=2.93, p=0.20; moderate asthma: AAPC=−2.22, p=0.35; severe asthma: AAPC=0.45, p=0.82). Trends in adults with good asthma control and those with poor control stayed constant (good control: AAPC=0.82, p=0.68; poor control: AAPC=−1.22, p=0.82). Summary: This study investigated treatment trends and major adverse events in patients hospitalized for osteoporotic vertebral fracture (OVF). The frequency of surgical interventions for OVF increased significantly, but this did not decrease major adverse events. The findings underscore the necessity for reevaluating OVF management strategies. Purpose: Osteoporotic vertebral fracture (OVF) is a common condition in the aging population, often leading to increased morbidity and mortality. Here, we analyzed treatment trends and incidence of major adverse events in patients hospitalized for OVF. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study, using a large Japanese hospital administrative database. The cohort included hospitalized patients aged 65 years or older, admitted for OVF from January 2015 to December 2021. The primary outcomes were the trend in the proportion of the patients undergoing surgery for OVF and the incidence of major adverse events within 30 days of admission. As a secondary outcome, we evaluated the trend in hospitalization costs. Results: The study cohort consisted of 14,714 patients, with a mean age of 82.4 years. There was a significant increase in surgical interventions for OVF, from 3.7% of patients in 2015 to 9.8% in 2021 (p < 0.001). The incidence of major adverse events remained unchanged, with a risk ratio of 1.09 (95% confidence interval, 0.88 to 1.35) in 2021 compared to 2015. Average hospitalization costs increased significantly, from $7,570.6 (SD 6,047.0) in 2015 to $9,502.9 (SD 7,231.5) in 2021 (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Despite a significant increase in the proportion of surgical intervention for OVF, no reduction in the risk of major adverse events was observed between 2015 and 2021. Objective To retrospectively analyze the trends in indications and surgical procedures for corneal transplantation in the Zhongshan region. Methods Data from corneal transplantation surgeries performed at Zhongshan People′s Hospital from January 2008 to December 2022 were collected and analyzed to evaluate the current status and trends in indications and surgical techniques. Results A total of 200 eyes were included in this study, with corneal leukoplakia accounting for 51 cases (25.5%), infectious keratitis 45 cases (22.5%), trauma 28 cases (14.0%), various types of corneal dystrophy and malnutrition 17 cases (8.5%), corneal tumors 17 cases (8.5%), keratoconus 15 cases (7.5%), bullous keratopathy 13 cases (6.5%), re-transplantation 12 cases (6.0%), and other corneal diseases (e.g., glaucoma, iridocorneal endothelial syndrome, filamentary keratitis） 2 cases (1.0%). Among the 45 cases of infectious keratitis, bacterial keratitis accounted for 31 cases (68.99%), fungal keratitis 10 cases (22.22%), and herpes simplex virus keratitis 4 cases (8.89%). Penetrating keratoplasty was performed in 122 cases (61%), lamellar keratoplasty in 66 cases (33%), endothelial keratoplasty in 10 cases (5%), and limbal stem cell transplantation in 2 cases (1%). Conclusion The top three indications for corneal transplantation in the Zhongshan region were corneal leukoplakia, infectious keratitis, and trauma. Penetrating keratoplasty remains the preferred surgical procedure for corneal transplantation, while the number of lamellar keratoplasty procedures has been increasing annually, significantly improving the utilization rate of donor corneas. For decades, political scientists have hotly debated longitudinal trends in political trust rates. An important undercurrent in the debate is that any decline in political trust might signal a legitimacy crisis. Yet, descriptive figures are unable to distinguish between two interpretations of these downward trends: (i) declines that can reasonably be expected as a reflection of declining political trustworthiness (i.e., procedural or output performance) and thereby reflect critical citizens who monitor their democratic institutions; and (ii) downward trends that are not warranted by democratic performance and thereby suggest a more fundamental disconnect between citizens and their democratic institutions. This research note argues that residuals to multilevel models of political trust allow us to distinguish between these two types, and thereby provide a better understanding of trends in political trust. These residuals do not only reveal short‐term aberrations to the explanatory model (often reflecting short‐lived, country‐specific events), but also the extent to which a country's trust rate systematically underperforms in the middle‐ to long‐term. To the extent that declining trust rates are lower than explanatory models predict, the residuals express excessive distrust. To the extent that declining trust rates are in line with the explanatory models, the residuals reflect critical, monitoring citizenship. We outline the approach of residual analyses as a tool to better understand trends in political trust. We illustrate the use of these residual analyses on a cross‐national, longitudinal data set (the Eurobarometer), covering 15 Western and Southern European countries between 1999 and 2019. While political trust rates fluctuate in all these countries, we only find evidence for a structural decline in two of these countries. In France and Spain political trust failed to recover in line with improving economic and institutional performance after the Great Recession. We then test the versatility of the tool to different conditions, including retests on an alternative set of countries (11 Central and Eastern European countries between 2004 and 2019) and an alternative dataset with different measures and time points (the European Social Survey). Finally, we elaborate on the two main conditions under which residual analyses offer a useful tool to the trend debate in political trust research: (1) a firm understanding of the object‐driven determinants of political trust, and (2) a detailed coverage of country‐wave combinations to separate structural trends from short‐term fluctuations. Purpose: This study aimed to review the literature on complementary and alternative therapies, utilizing text mining and trend analysis in nursing research. As CAM becomes increasingly prevalent in healthcare settings, a comprehensive understanding of the current research landscape is essential to guide evidence-based practice, inform clinical decision-making, and ultimately enhance patient outcomes. Method: This study aimed to identify CAM-related literature published from 2018 to 2023. Using the search terms 'complementary therap*', 'complementary medicine', 'alternative therap*', and 'alternative medicine', we performed a comprehensive search in eight databases, including EMBASE, Cochrane Central, PubMed Central, Korea Education and Research Information Service (RISS), Web of Science, KMbase, KISS, and CINAHL. From the text network and topic modeling analysis of 66,490 documents, 15 topics were identified. These topics were classified into two nursing-related topics through an academic classification process involving three doctors with doctoral degrees, three nurses, and three pharmacists. Based on the classified topics, research trends were comparatively analyzed by re-searching the database for 12 nursing and 22 non-nursing literature. Result: This study found that in nursing literature, yoga is used to improve mental symptoms such as stress and anxiety. In non-nursing literature, most of the experimental studies on complementary and alternative therapies were conducted in a randomized manner, confirming that a variety of physiological and objective indicators were used. Additionally, it was discovered that there were differences in the diversity of research subjects and research design methods for the same intervention method. Therefore, future research should focus on broadening the scope of subjects and measurement tools in nursing studies. Additionally, such studies should be conducted with randomization and generalizability in the experimental design in mind. Conclusion: This study employed text network analysis and text mining to identify domestic and international CAM research trends. Our novel approach combined big data-derived keywords with a systematic classification method, proposing a new methodological strategy for trend analysis. Future nursing research should focus on broadening the scope of subjects, diversifying measurement tools, and emphasizing randomization and generalizability in experimental designs. Background: Even with advances in primary health care, depressive disorders remain a major global public health problem. We conducted an in-depth analysis of global, regional and national trends in depressive disorders incidence over the past 30 years. Methods: Data on the incidence of depressive disorders were obtained by sex (female, male, and both), location (204 countries), age (5–84 years), year (1990–2019) from the Global Burden of Disease Study (GBD) 2019. Further, age-period-cohort modeling was used to estimate the net drift, local drift, age, period and cohort effects between 1990 and 2019. Results: In 2019, although the incidence of depressive disorders has increased by 59.3% to 290 million (95% UI: 256, 328), the age-standardized incidence rate has decreased by 2.35% to 3588.25 per 100,000 people (3152.71, 4060.42) compared to 1990. There was an emerging transition of incidences from the young and middle-aged population to the old population. From 1990 to 2019, the net drift of incidence rate ranged from −0.54% (−0.61%, −0.47%) in low-middle Socio-demographic Index (SDI) regions to 0.52% (0.25%, 0.79%) in high SDI regions. Globally, the incidence rate of depressive disorders increases with age, period effects showing a decreasing risk and cohort effects beginning to decline after the 1960s. Conclusions: Our current findings reflect substantial health disparities and potential priority-setting of depressive disorders incidence in the three dimensions of age, period and cohort across SDI regions, countries. This study aimed to assess the trends of healthy aging and investigate its determinants in the middle-aged population. This was a longitudinal study. The sample comprised 3043 participants aged 45–59 years from the China Longitudinal Study of Health and Retirement 2011–2018. We plotted the prevalence across four waves and used ordered logistic models to investigate the determinants of cumulative times of healthy aging. We enrolled 3043 middle-aged people in our study. The prevalence of healthy aging is 28.2% at baseline but subsequently decreased to 19.72% at wave 4. Active socializing consistently ranked the lowest among the five dimensions. Participants with older age (odds ratio [OR] = 0.95, 95% confidence interval [CI] = 0.94–0.97), low monthly income (OR = 0.82, 95% CI: 0.69–0.97) or lived in urban (OR = 0.81, 95% CI: 0.70–0.94) were less likely to have per time increase in healthy aging. Participants with more than primary school degree (OR = 1.79, 95% CI: 1.31–2.46), high life satisfaction (OR = 2.38, 95% CI: 1.86–3.06), and good self-report health (OR = 1.97, 95% CI: 1.66–2.34) were more likely to have healthy aging. The number of middle-aged individuals in China who achieved healthy aging is declining and eventually less than one in five, which was far from ideal. Particular attention should be paid to older, women, urban dwellers, individuals with low income, low life satisfaction or poor self-report health. Objective: To investigate the age‐standardized prevalence rate (ASPR) and temporal trends for hip, knee, hand, and other osteoarthritis (OA) at a global, continental, and national level. Design: The estimates and 95% uncertainty intervals (UIs) for case number and ASPR of OA were derived from the Global Burden of Diseases Study (GBD) 2019. The joinpoint regression analysis was utilized to examine the temporal trends from 1990 to 2019. Results: In 2019, the global ASPR of hip, knee, hand, and other OA was 400.95 (95% UI: 312.77–499.41), 4375.95 (95% UI: 3793.04–5004.9), 1726.38 (95% UI: 1319.91–2254.85), and 745.62 (95% UI: 570.16–939.8). As for the ASPR of hip OA, hand OA, and other OA, Europe and America had higher rates than Asia and Africa, and Asia was second only to America in knee OA ASPRs. The period 1990–2019, the ASPR at global level dropped significantly for hand OA (AAPC = −0.4%, 95% CI: −0.47 to −0.34) and increased significantly for hip OA (AAPC = 0.43%, 95% CI: 0.39–0.46), knee OA (AAPC = 0.17%, 95% CI: 0.09–0.24) and other OA (AAPC = 0.16%, 95% CI: 0.15–0.17). Different continents, countries, and periods demonstrated significant changes. Conclusions: Globally, America has the highest OA burden and Asia has a higher knee OA burden. To assess national-level trends, characteristics, and outcomes of pregnancies with Turner syndrome in the United States. Cross-sectional study. The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's National Inpatient Sample. A total of 17,865,495 hospital deliveries from 2016–2020. A diagnosis of Turner syndrome, identified according to the World Health Organization's International Classification of Disease 10th revision code of Q96. Obstetrics outcomes related to Turner syndrome, assessed with inverse probability of treatment weighting cohort and multivariable binary logistic regression modeling. The prevalence of pregnant patients with Turner syndrome was 7.0 per 100,000 deliveries (one in 14,235). The number of hospital deliveries with patients who have a diagnosis of Turner syndrome increased from 5.0 to 11.7 per 100,000 deliveries during the study period (adjusted-odds ratio [aOR] for 2020 vs. 2016; 2.18, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.83–2.60). Pregnant patients with Turner syndrome were more likely to have a diagnosis of pregestational hypertension (4.8% vs. 2.8%; aOR 1.65; 95% CI 1.26–2.15), uterine anomaly (1.6% vs. 0.4%; aOR, 3.01; 95% CI 1.93–4.69), and prior pregnancy losses (1.6% vs. 0.3%; aOR 4.70; 95% CI 3.01–7.32) compared with those without Turner syndrome. For the index obstetric characteristics, Turner syndrome was associated with an increased risk of intrauterine fetal demise (10.9% vs. 0.7%; aOR 8.40; 95% CI 5.30–13.30), intrauterine growth restriction (8.5% vs. 3.5%; aOR 2.11; 95% CI 1.48–2.99), and placenta accreta spectrum (aOR 3.63; 95% CI 1.20–10.97). For delivery outcome, pregnant patients with Turner syndrome were more likely to undergo cesarean delivery (41.6% vs. 32.3%; aOR 1.53; 95% CI 1.26–1.87). Moreover, the odds of periviable delivery (22–25 weeks: 6.1% vs. 0.4%; aOR 5.88; 95% CI 3.47–9.98) and previable delivery (<22 weeks: 3.3% vs. 0.3%; aOR 2.87; 95% CI 1.45–5.69) were increased compared with those without Turner syndrome. The results of contemporaneous, nationwide assessment in the United States suggest that although pregnancy with Turner syndrome is uncommon this may represent a high-risk group, particularly for intrauterine fetal demise and periviable delivery. Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the trends in infectious spondylitis over the past two decades. Methods: We included 157 cases, from 2000 to 2020, of infectious spondylitis. The cases were divided into two groups: 00 (cases during 2000–2009; 82 cases:) and 10 (cases during 2010–2020; 75 cases) groups. Patients' age, sex, causative organism, and localization were examined and compared between the two groups. Results: The proportions of women in the 00 and 10 groups were 30.5% and 38.7%, respectively, with no significant difference (P = 0.28). The average age was significantly higher in the 10 group (72.6 years) than in the 00 group (68.8 years; P < 0.01). A compromised host was the cause of infection in 52.4% and 36.0% of the patients in the 00 and 10 groups, respectively, showing a significant difference. The bacterial identification rates were 70.1% and 77.3% in the 00 and 10 groups, respectively (P < 0.01), and the genus Staphylococcus was the most common bacteria. The proportions of resistant bacteria such as methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus in the 00 and 10 groups were 27.3% and 6.7%, respectively (P < 0.01). Conversely, infectious diseases caused by indigenous bacteria in the oral cavity and intestines were more common in the 10group (37.8%) than in the 00 group (13.0%), showing a significant difference (P < 0.01). Conclusion: Recently, infections caused by indigenous bacteria in the oral cavity and intestines have increased more than those caused by resistant bacteria over the past two decade. To examine pregnancy characteristics and maternal morbidity at delivery among pregnant patients with a diagnosis of endometriosis. This cross-sectional study queried the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project's National Inpatient Sample. Study population was 17,796,365 hospital deliveries from 2016 to 2020, excluded adenomyosis and uterine myoma. The exposure was endometriosis diagnosis. Main outcome measures were clinical and pregnancy characteristics and severe maternal morbidity at delivery related to endometriosis, assessed with multivariable regression model. Endometriosis was diagnosed in 17,590 patients. The prevalence of endometriosis increased by 24 % from one in 1,191 patients in 2016 to one in 853 patients in 2020 (adjusted-odds ratio [aOR] 1.24, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.19–1.30). Clinical and pregnancy characteristics that had greater than two-fold association to endometriosis included polycystic ovary syndrome, placenta previa, cesarean delivery, maternal age of ≥30 years, prior pregnancy loss, and anxiety disorder. Pregnant patients with endometriosis were more likely to have the diagnosis of measured severe maternal morbidity during the index hospitalization for delivery (47.8 vs 17.3 per 1,000 deliveries, aOR 1.91, 95%CI 1.78–2.06); these associations were more prominent following vaginal (aOR 2.82, 95%CI 2.41–3.30) compared to cesarean (aOR 1.85, 95%CI 1.71–2.00) deliveries. Among the individual morbidity indicators, endometriosis was most strongly associated with thromboembolism (aOR 5.05, 95%CI 3.70–6.91), followed by sepsis (aOR 2.39, 95%CI 1.85–3.09) and hysterectomy (aOR 2.18, 95%CI 1.85–2.56). When stratified for endometriosis anatomical site, odds of thromboembolism was increased in endometriosis at distant site (aOR 9.10, 95%CI 3.76–22.02) and adnexa (aOR 7.37, 95%CI 4.43–12.28); odds of sepsis was most increased in endometriosis at multi-classifier locations (aOR 7.33, 95%CI 2.93–18.31) followed by pelvic peritoneum (aOR 5.54, 95%CI 2.95–10.40); and odds of hysterectomy exceeded three-fold in endometriosis at adnexa (aOR 3.00, 95%CI 2.30–3.90), distant site (aOR 5.36, 95%CI 3.48–8.24), and multi-classifier location (aOR 4.46, 95%CI 2.11–9.41). The results of this nationwide analysis suggest that pregnancy with endometriosis is uncommon but gradually increasing over time in the United States. Background: In recent years, with the continuous development of fluorescence imaging technology, research on its application in pancreatic diseases has surged. This area is currently of high research interest and holds the potential to become a non-invasive and effective tool in the diagnosis and treatment of pancreatic diseases. The objective of this study is to explore the hotspots and trends in the field of fluorescence imaging technology applications in pancreatic diseases from 2003 to 2023 through bibliometric and visual analysis. Methods: This study utilized the Web of Science (core collection) to identify publications related to the application of fluorescence imaging technology in pancreatic diseases from 2003 to 2023. Tools such as CiteSpace (V 6.2.R6), VOSviewer (v1.6.20), and R Studio (Bibliometrix: R-tool version 4.1.4) were employed to analyze various dimensions including publication count, countries, institutions, journals, authors, co-cited references, keywords, burst words, and references. Results: A comprehensive analysis was conducted on 913 papers published from January 1, 2003, to December 1, 2023, on the application of fluorescence imaging technology in pancreatic diseases. The number of publications in this field has rapidly increased, with the United States being the central hub. The University of California, San Diego emerged as the most active institution. "Biomaterials" was identified as the most influential journal. Authors with the most publications and the highest average citations per article are Hoffman, Robert M. and Luiken, George A., respectively. Keywords such as pancreatic cancer, cancer, expression, indocyanine green, and nanoparticles received widespread attention, with indocyanine green and nanoparticles being current active research hotspots in the field. Conclusion: This study is the first bibliometric analysis in the field of fluorescence imaging technology applications in pancreatic diseases. Our data will facilitate a better understanding of the developmental trends, identification of research hotspots, and direction in this field. Climate extreme events in Ethiopia have increased, impacting the country’s agriculture dependent economy. Localized studies on rainfall extremes provides valuable insights to develop mitigation measures. This study focuses on the analysis of rainfall extremes for the observed (1984–2018) and the future mid time period (2031–2065) and end time period (2066–2100) projected under RCP4.5: moderate emissions reduction scenario aiming to stabilize greenhouse gas concentrations by the mid-21st century and RCP8.5: high emissions scenario with continued increase in greenhouse gas emissions throughout the twenty-first century. Trend analysis was done using R statistical software modified Man Kendell package. The result revealed that the observed total rainfall in wet days (PRCPTOT) showed insignificant declining trend across the subbasin. Under the RCP4.5 scenario, mid time period projections indicated increasing trends in PRCPTOT at Maytsebri, Adiremet and Debarik stations while decreasing trends expected at Ketema Niguse and Zarima stations. In the RCP4.5 end time period, Debarik and Zarima stations showed increasing trends while other stations exhibited decreasing trends. Under the RCP8.5 scenario, PRCPTOT showed insignificant decreasing trend except Ketema Niguse station which showed significant increasing trend during the mid time period. The observed annual maximum 1-day rainfall (RX1day) and annual RX5day rainfall had both positive and negative trends over subbasin. The RCP4.5 scenario projected declining trends in annual RX1day rainfall, while the RCP8.5 scenario projected increasing trends, except the end time projection of Debarik station. Consecutive dry days (CDD) increased and Consecutive wet days (CWD) decreased insignificantly in majority the subbasin. Projections indicated higher CDD and decreased CWD are expected in majority of the subbasin area. These finding implied that further investigation is required on the impact of climate extremes.Article highlights: The rainfall extreme events trends differ at different stations and time periods showed varying patterns. Future projections of rainfall extremes under different climate scenarios showed that the changes will continue in the future. Phytoplankton sustains marine ecosystems and influences the global carbon cycle. This study analyzes trends in surface chlorophyll‐a concentration (Schl), a proxy for phytoplankton biomass, using six of the most widely used merged satellite products. Significant regional variations are observed, with contrasting trends observed among different products. To assess if these trends can be related to changes in the environment or to bias in radiometric products, a convolutional neural network is used to examine the relationship between physical ocean variables versus Schl. The results suggest that the merging algorithm of Globcolour‐GSM is not reliable for trend detection and that observed changes in Schl after 2012/2016 are not supported by changes of the physical ocean. These results emphasize the need for careful interpretation of satellite‐derived Schl trends and highlight the potential of machine learning in understanding the complex interactions in marine ecosystems. Plain Language Summary: This study investigates trends in surface concentration of chlorophyll‐a (Schl), a proxy of phytoplankton biomass in the ocean. Our study reveals different trends according to the considered satellite products, challenging previous assumptions relating some Schl negative trends to the anthropogenic signal. To investigate the reliability of these trends, a machine learning approach is applied, showing that the observed changes in Schl trends may not always be related to changes in some physical ocean properties but sometimes to sensor drift. A growing body of evidence indicates the emergence of overweight/obesity in developing countries before the battle against undernutrition has been won. We conducted this study to quantify the reduction of underweight and the emergence of overweight among Ethiopian women from 2000 to 2016 and evaluate factors explaining the progress. We used the four Ethiopian Demographic and Health Surveys (2000–2016) to analyze body mass index (BMI) trends among women. Data from 43,815 non-pregnant, non-puerperal reproductive-age women was used to evaluate the linear change in BMI and changes in the percentage of overweight and underweight over time. Using multivariate decomposition analysis of change in underweight and overweight percentages, we identified sources of change in BMI in the past 16 years of the survey periods. The BMI of Ethiopian reproductive-age women increased by 0.88 kg/m2 from 2000 to 2016. The increment was pronounced in urban areas with 1.46 kg/m2. There has been a significant reduction in underweight women since 2000 (p-value < 0.001), and 87.62% of the changes were attributed to behavioral changes toward weight management. And there was a significant upswing in overweight women from 2000 to 2016 (p-value < 0.001) as well. A compositional change of factors including region, women's age, women's educational status, religion, type of place of residence, and use of contraceptives contributed to 57.51% of the observed increment in the percentage of overweight women. A relatively slow decrease in underweight and an increment in overweight have been observed. This progress can be disaggregated into persistent underweight in the rural and poorest, and swift development of overweight in the urban and richest communities. Targeted nutrition interventions for both underweight and overweight women are mandatory. Nutritional interventions in Ethiopia should focus on behavioral change to reduce hunger and malnutrition as well as to avert the emergence of overweight or obesity in the affected communities. The information on climatic condition is difficult to obtain, expensive, and time-consuming so as to make timely decision on agricultural activities. As a scientific effort, this study was conducted to assess the temporal changes and trends of rainfall and temperature, to know the performance of weather generator (WG) tools in capturing the temporal and spatial distribution of rainfall, maximum temperature (Tmax) and minimum temperature (Tmin) and to evaluate the performance of WG in simulating the observed rainfall, Tmax and Tmin by using statistical methods. Mann–Kendall's trend analysis revealed that rainfall had non-significant (P < 0.05) decreasing trends, while Tmax and Tmin had an increasing significant (P < 0.05) trends at all stations. NASA POWER data followed by NewlocClim exactly capture the temporal changes of rainfall, Tmax, and Tmin in all stations except Debre Birhan and Mehal Meda. NewlocClim well captures rainfall at Alem ketema, while NASA well simulates rainfall at Debre Birhan and Majete stations. However Had-GEM2-ES, MRI-CGCM3, and CSIRO-Mk3.6.0 were not handling the spatial variability of observed rainfall at all stations. Similarly, some WGs showed moderate to good performance in capturing the spatial distributions of Tmax and Tmin. The smallest RMSE and CV, the highest R and d values were observed in NASA POWER and NewlocClim for rainfall, Tmax and Tmin. Therefore, NASA and NewlocClim are more accurate with goodness of fit to estimate rainfall, Tmax and Tmin in most of the stations to access weather data for ungagged stations for timely and reasonable decision-making on agriculture. Objectives: This study used repeated cross-sectional data from three national surveys in Vietnam to determine tobacco smoking prevalence from 2010 to 2020 and disparities among demographic and socioeconomic groups. Methods: Tobacco smoking temporal trends were estimated for individuals aged 15 and over and stratified by demographic and socioeconomic status (SES). Prevalence estimates used survey weights and 95% confidence intervals. Logistic regression models adjusted for survey sample characteristics across time were used to examine trends. Results: Tobacco smoking prevalence dropped from 23.8% in 2010 to 22.5% in 2015 and 20.8% in 2020. The adjusted OR for 2015 compared to 2010 was 0.87, and for 2020 compared to 2010 was 0.69. Smoking decreased less for employed individuals than unemployed individuals in 2020 compared to 2010. Smoking was higher in the lower SES group in all 3 years. Higher-SES households have seen a decade-long drop in tobacco use. Conclusion: This prevalence remained constant in lower SES households. This highlights the need for targeted interventions to address the specific challenges faced by lower-SES smokers and emphasizes the importance of further research to inform effective policies. Aims: This study sought to examine the difference in clinical characteristics, treatment strategy, trends in mortality, and medical costs according to the aetiologies of cardiogenic shock (CS). Methods and results: This was a population‐based, nationwide, cohort study from the Korean National Health Insurance Service database. All CS adults (≥18 years) were admitted to an intensive care unit from January 2010 to December 2020. The primary outcome was in‐hospital mortality. The secondary outcomes were cardiac replacement therapy (left ventricular assisted device implantation or heart transplantation), all‐cause mortality, ischaemic stroke, rehospitalization for heart failure (HF) during follow‐up, and actual in‐hospital medical costs. Among 136 092 individuals with CS, 48 704 (29.7%) cases were due to acute myocardial infarction‐related CS (AMI‐CS), and the remaining 87 388 (71.3%) were due to HF‐CS (ischaemic cardiomyopathy [ICM] vs. non‐ICM, 49 504 [56.6%] vs. 37 884 [45.4%]). Patients with HF‐CS were older, less likely to be male, and less likely to receive mechanical circulatory support, compared to those with AMI‐CS. During the 10‐year study period, the in‐hospital mortality rate decreased, and actual medical costs tended to increase, regardless of CS aetiology. Compared with AMI‐CS, HF‐CS was associated with higher risks of in‐hospital mortality (40.3% vs. 28.5%; adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1.47, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.43–1.52), cardiac replacement therapy (adjusted OR 1.65, 95% CI 1.16–2.34), as well as follow‐up mortality after successful discharge (19.3% vs. 8.5%; adjusted‐hazard ratio 1.54, 95% CI 1.48–1.59). HF‐CS had lower medical costs than AMI‐CS (adjusted ratio 0.79, 95% CI 0.79–0.80). Conclusions: With medical advances during the past 10 years, the mortality of CS has decreased significantly, but the mortality of HF‐CS remains high. The precipitation trend patterns in South America (SA) are determined using trend empirical orthogonal function analysis for the 1951–2016 period. The associated large‐scale tropical and extratropical anomalous circulation patterns are also examined. The words "total" and "residual" refer to the monthly anomalies and monthly anomalies without the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) effects, respectively. The total precipitation features a positive trend in southeastern SA (SESA, southern Brazil, Uruguay, most of eastern Argentina) and northern Chile, and a negative trend over central‐eastern Brazil and central Amazonia. The residual precipitation shows an increased positive trend over most of the coastal extension of northern SA and Colombia; a weak positive trend over southern Brazil, northeastern Argentina, and northern Chile; and a negative trend over central‐eastern SA and western Amazonia. The differences between the total and residual precipitation trend patterns in tropical SA is explained as responses to total and residual zonally asymmetric anomalous sea surface temperature (SST) patterns, respectively. The total SST pattern along the equatorial Pacific configures the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, which impacts ENSO variability and as response intensifies the Walker circulation. Without the ENSO, the Walker cell is mainly driven by the tropical Indian and Atlantic Oceans, which configure residual asymmetric anomalous warming. Furthermore, the warming in the equatorial Indian and eastern Pacific Oceans, in the presence of ENSO, induces a Rossby wave train‐type anomalous pattern that extends across the South Pacific into SA and modulates the atmospheric anomalous circulation over SESA. In this region, an anomalous anticyclonic accompanied by an intensified South American Low‐Level Jet induces a moisture transport to SESA. This anticyclone is also observed in the absence of ENSO but is weaker. The results suggest the importance of ocean warming in the western Pacific‐Indian in the modulation of extratropical teleconnections to SESA in the tropical ocean warming scenario. Background: Both cancer diagnosis/treatment modality and surgical technique for the spine have been developed recently. Nationwide trends in the surgical treatment for metastatic spinal tumors have not been reported in the last decades. This study aimed to examine recent trends in the surgical treatment for spinal metastasis and in-hospital patient outcomes using nationwide administrative hospital discharge data. Methods: The Diagnosis Procedure Combination database from 2012 to 2020 was used to extract data from patients who underwent surgical procedures for spinal metastasis with the number of non-metastatic spinal surgery at the institutions that have performed metastatic spine surgeries at least one case in the same year. Trends in the surgical treatment for spinal metastasis, patients' demographics, and in-hospital mortality/outcomes were investigated. Results: This study analyzed 10,321 eligible patients with spinal metastasis. The surgical treatment for spinal metastasis increased 1.68 times from 2012 to 2020, especially in fusion surgery, whereas the proportion of metastatic spinal surgery retained with a slight increase in the 2%s. Distributions of the primary site did not change, whereas age was getting older. In-hospital mortality and length of stay decreased over time (9.9–6.8%, p < 0.001; 37–30 days, p < 0.001). Postoperative complication and unfavorable ambulatory retained stable and slightly decreased, respectively. Conclusion: During the last decade, surgical treatment for spinal metastasis, especially fusion surgery, has increased in Japan. In-hospital mortality and length of stay decreased. Background: Hypothyroidism is a chronic disease, affecting almost all body functions, associated with deficiency in the thyroid hormones T4 and T3. Though different clinical practice guidelines available, but lots of inconsistency still exists in treatment practices by different physicians across different specialties. This study was conducted with an aim to document and report current clinical practices for managing hypothyroidism. Materials &Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted in 30 practicing doctors including family physicians/ general practitioners /primary care physicians, endocrinologists and doctors of other specialties practicing in and around Kolkata, West Bengal, India. Pre-designed validated questionnaire was used after necessary modification in view of pilot study to evaluate the clinical practice patterns for managing hypothyroidism in this study. Results: About 36.67% of participating doctors were practicing gradual restoration of euthyroidism, whereas 26.67% were of the opinion to prescribe an empiric dose and there after adjusting the dose to achieve target thyroid hormone levels and 36.67% agreed that they would start with a calculated full-replacement dose from the beginning. About 54% would increase in increments of 25 microgram during gradual restoration of euthyroidism. Approx. 90% would use a brand name of L-T4. 45% would recheck thyroid hormone levels 6 weeks after starting therapy and 56% would obtain laboratory studies at 3-month intervals. In patient planning pregnancy, the preferred TSH target was 1.0 to 1.4 mU/L (40%) while 60% would continue the current dose of LT4 during pregnancy. In subclinical hypothyroidism, positive TPO antibodies and symptoms of hypothyroidism constitute the main determinants for initiating treatment. Research and applications on trend analysis have recently been on the agenda and are top priorities in many disciplines due to the effects of climate change. After a thorough evaluation of the literature, it is noted that different hydro-meteorological variables, such as precipitation, temperature, etc., are studied and analyzed individually. This research proposes a new innovative polygon trend analysis application (S-IPTA) using the standardization concept to fill this gap in classical trend applications and comprehensively compare the trends of different variables to temporal and spatial patterns. Firstly, using statistical standardization, S-IPTA adjusts the original data sets and makes them dimensionless. Then, the innovative trend analyses are conducted and interpreted on one single graph (S-IPTA). The S-IPTA methodology is applied to monthly precipitation and temperature time series of Konya Basin in Türkiye at ten meteorological stations between 1959 and 2022. For precipitation, the S-IPTA did not exhibit a consistent polygon across all stations within the study area, while the temperature polygon was more regular, indicating that the temperature mean was generally stable with a positive trend. Also, S-IPTA shows the difference between the average value for each month and the newly proposed long-term average value (0). S-IPTA also provides a basis for a better interpretation of climate change and its effects by providing a common denominator for various trend characteristics, such as trend magnitudes and trend transitions in different hydro-meteorological time series. Background: Tuberculosis (TB) is a major public health concern in the developing countries. Moreover, the emergence of multidrug-resistant tuberculosis is challenging. However, there are no organized data on the trends of pulmonary tuberculosis and rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the study area. Methods: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted to fill the information gap in Central Tigray at St. Mary General Hospital between 2018 and 2023. Data were collected from the GeneXpert™ tuberculosis registration logbooks using standard checklists and analyzed using Statistical Package for Social Science version 22. After performing logistic regression, a p-value < 0.05 with a corresponding 95% confidence interval was considered statistically significant. Moreover, chi square test for trend was performed to assess the percentage of annual detection of pulmonary tuberculosis and rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis during the study years. Result: Presumptive pulmonary tuberculosis patients with complete data (n = 3696) were included in the study. The overall prevalence of pulmonary tuberculosis was 11.7%, of which 8.1% were resistant to rifampicin. The study revealed that the incidence of pulmonary tuberculosis has been increasing, mainly in the recent four years. Likewise, an increase in rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis was observed with considerable fluctuations. Age, human immunodeficiency virus infection, and presumptive rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection were significantly associated with the presence of pulmonary tuberculosis. Moreover, pulmonary tuberculosis was more prevalent among participants in the productive-age group. Conclusion: Although there have been fluctuations, an increasing of pulmonary tuberculosis and rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis has been observed in recent years. Hence, prevention and treatment strategies for tuberculosis should be strengthened to alleviate the burden of pulmonary tuberculosis and rifampicin-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis in the study area. Pasar swalayan menghasilkan transaksi penjualan dengan pelanggan dengan laju pertumbuhan data tinggi. Data transaksi sejumlah barang memiliki pola berbeda, ada yang tinggi dan ada yang rendah. Perbedaan ini mengakibatkan pola penjualan antar satu produk dengan produk lainnya berbeda. Pola ini juga mengakibatkan pengelolaan stok dan promosi juga berbeda. Maka, untuk memudahkan pengelolaan barang, perlu dilakukan pengelompokan trend penjualan otomatis menggunakan K-Means. Namun, metode perhitungan jarak (dissimilarity) standar tidak tepat digunakan pada data periodik. Penelitian ini bereksperimen mengelompokkan data periodic trend penjualan produk menggunakan metode K-Means dan DTW (Dynamic Time Warping) untuk perhitungan jarak. DTW melakukan perhitungan jarak dengan memperhatikan data histori periode sebelum dan setelah data yang sedang dihitung. Pelibatan data disekitarnya akan membentuk jarak sesuai dengan pola data periodik. Hasil pengelompokan data tahun 2021, Cluster 1 dengan 417 data memiliki pola naik dari awal tahun kemudian menurun, selanjutnya perlahan naik kembali di pertengahan hingga akhir tahun. Cluster 2 dengan 2403 data memiliki pola stabil di awal tahun, ketika di pertengahan tahun mulai naik, kemudian di akhir tahun turun namun kembali naik. Cluster 3 dengan 289 data memiliki pola menurun saat awal tahun, namun terlihat stabil hingga akhir tahun. Hasil ekeperimen pengelompokan trend penjualan menggunakan metode K-Means dengan jarak DTW menunjukkan hasil yang baik dan memiliki pola data dalam kelompok yang sesuai karakteristik alami. Hal ini didukung oleh validitas Davies-Bouldin index -1.215 dimana nilai yang semakin kecil mendekati nol menunjukkan kualitas cluster yang dicapai baik.

Introduction In this study we estimate the burden of esophageal cancer (EC) in China and globally from 1990 to 2021, with a forecast to 2035, using Global Burden of Disease (GBD) data. We also analyze the related risk factors to investigate burden trends. Methods Mortality, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), crude rates, and agestandardized rates of EC were analyzed in China and globally from 1990 to 2035, utilizing GBD open data as a secondary dataset analysis of GBD data. Temporal change trends of EC risk factors were analyzed from 1990 to 2021. Joinpoint regression determined average annual percentage change (AAPC) of age-standardized rates. Descriptive analysis compared mortality and DALYs by age groups. Bayesian age-period-cohort (BAPC) predicted age-standardized mortality and DALYs rates for the next 14 years. Results The ASMR and ASDR fluctuations in EC were significant in China, showing an overall downward trend. Globally, although there was also a downward trend, the fluctuations were relatively mild. The number of deaths and DALYs related to EC in China and globally showed a significant upward trend. Age-specific burden trends in China for EC indicated that the age group with the peak number of EC deaths shifted to the 70–74 years age group in 2021, while DALYs peaked in the 65–69 years age group. The crude mortality rate (CMR) peaked consistently in 1990 and 2021, both within the 90–94 years age range, while the crude DALY rate (CDR) shifted to the 85–89 years age group. Abstract Thyroid cancer (TC) is a significant global healthcare burden. However, the lack of comprehensive data has impeded our understanding of its global impact. We aimed to examine the burden of TC and its trends at the global, regional, and national levels using data stratified by sociodemographic index (SDI), sex, and age. Data on TC, including incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) from 1990 to 2021, were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021. Estimated annual percentage changes (EAPCs) were calculated to assess the incidence rate, mortality, and DALYs trends. The incidence, mortality, and DALYs of TC in 2021 were 249,538 (95% uncertainty interval: 223,290–274,638), 44,799 (39,925–48,541), and 646,741 (599,119–717,357), respectively. The age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR) in 2021 was 2.914 (2.607–3.213), with an EAPC of 1.25 (1.14–1.37) compared to 1990. In 2021, the age-standardized death rate (ASDR) was 0.53 (0.47–0.575) and age-standardized DALYs rate was 14.571 (12.783–16.115). Compared with 1990, the EAPCs of ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate showed decreasing trends, at − 0.24 (− 0.27 to − 0.21) and − 0.14 (− 0.17 to − 0.11), respectively. Low SDI regions showed the highest ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, at 0.642 (0.516–0.799) and 17.976 (14.18–23.06), respectively. Low-middle SDI regions had the highest EAPCs for ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, at 0.74 (0.71–0.78) and 0.67 (0.63–0.7), respectively. Females exhibited decreasing trend in ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, with EAPCs of − 0.58 (− 0.61 to − 0.55) and − 0.45 (− 0.47 to − 0.42), respectively. In contrast, males showed an increasing trend in ASDR and age-standardized DALYs rate, with EAPCs of 0.41 (0.35–0.46) for both. In high-income regions, most countries with decreased annual changes in deaths experience increasing age-related deaths. Over the past few decades, a notable increase in TC incidence and decreased mortality has been observed globally. Regions characterized by lower SDI, male sex, and an aging population exhibited no improvement in TC mortality. Effective resource allocation, meticulous control of risk factors, and tailored interventions are crucial for addressing these issues.

Abstract Background Early neonatal deaths, occurring within the first six days of life, remain a critical public health challenge. Understanding the trends and factors associated with this issue is crucial for designing effective interventions and achieving global health goals. This study aims to examine the trends in early neonatal mortality in Ethiopia and identify the key factors associated with changes in early neonatal mortality over time. Methods This study utilized five consecutive Ethiopian Demographic and Health Survey datasets from 2000 to 2019. To investigate the trends and identify factors influencing changes in early neonatal mortality over time, conducted a trend analysis and a logit-based multivariate decomposition analysis. Data management and analyses were performed using STATA version 17/MP software. All analyses were weighted to account for sampling probabilities and non-response. Statistical significance was determined at a two-sided p-value threshold of less than 0.05. Result The analysis included a total of 12,260 weighted women from the 2000 survey and 5,527 weighted women from the 2019 survey. Over the study period, there was an overall downward trend in early neonatal mortality, decreasing from 34 deaths per 1000 live births in 2000 to 27 deaths per 1000 live births in 2019. The annual rate of reduction was estimated to be 1.03%. Approximately 45% of the observed decline in early neonatal mortality rate can be attributed to changes in population characteristics or endowments (E) during the study period. Factors such as the mother’s age, maternal education, marital status, preceding birth interval, types of pregnancy, and the sex of the child significantly contributed to the compositional change in the early neonatal mortality rate. Conclusion Over the past two decades, Ethiopia has seen a modest decline in early neonatal mortality, but this progress falls short of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDGs) targets. To achieve the SDGs, the Ministry of Health and its partners should intensify efforts to reduce early neonatal mortality. Strategies like preventing early/late pregnancies, promoting appropriate marriage timing, and prioritizing education could help further reduce early neonatal deaths. Further research is also needed to explore the factors driving this issue.

In January 2024, Cancer Statistics, 2024 was published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. This report estimated cancer cases and deaths in 2024 and described the secular trends of major cancers over recent decades. We summarized the report and integrated the latest data on the cancer burden in China to compare the prevalence cancer between two countries. We also comprehensively interpreted the underlying reasons for these trends to provide insights for cancer prevention and control strategies in China.
