The Dirac operator is considered on a bidimensional domain whose boundary carries the infinite mass boundary condition. The analysis is focused on the existence of discrete spectrum and on its asymptotic description in the thin width limit. We revisit a recent result by using an alternative view point inspired by microlocal analysis.

We consider the magnetic Dirac operator on a curved strip whose boundary carries the infinite mass boundary condition. When the magnetic field is large, we provide the reader with accurate estimates of the essential and discrete spectra. In particular, we give sufficient conditions ensuring that the discrete spectrum is non-empty.

We consider a Dirac operator with constant magnetic field defined on a half-plane with boundary conditions that interpolate between infinite mass and zigzag. By a detailed study of the energy dispersion curves we show that the infinite mass case generically captures the profile of these curves, which undergoes a continuous pointwise deformation into the topologically different zigzag profile. Moreover, these results are applied to the bulk-edge correspondence. In particular, by means of a counterexample, we show that this correspondence does not always hold true in the zigzag case.

This article tackles the spectral analysis of the Robin Laplacian on a smooth bounded two-dimensional domain in the presence of a constant magnetic field. In the semiclassical limit, a uniform description of the spectrum located between the Landau levels is obtained. The corresponding eigenfunctions, called edge states, are exponentially localized near the boundary. By means of a microlocal dimensional reduction, our unifying approach allows on the one hand to derive a very precise Weyl law and a proof of quantum magnetic oscillations for excited states, and on the other hand to refine simultaneously old results about the low-lying eigenvalues in the Robin case and recent ones about edge states in the Dirichlet case.

We consider the Dirichlet Laplacian with uniform magnetic field on a curved strip in two dimensions. We give a sufficient condition ensuring the existence of the discrete spectrum in the strong magnetic field limit.

We study the Dirac equation coupled to scalar and vector Klein-Gordon fields in the limit of strong coupling and large masses of the fields. We prove convergence of the solutions to those of a cubic non-linear Dirac equation, given that the initial spinors coincide. This shows that in this parameter regime, which is relevant to the relativistic mean-field theory of nuclei, the retarded interaction is well approximated by an instantaneous, local self-interaction. We generalize this result to a many-body Dirac-Fock equation on the space of Hilbert-Schmidt operators.

In this work we study Dirac operators on two-dimensional domains coupled to a magnetic field perpendicular to the plane. We focus on the infinite-mass boundary condition (also called MIT bag condition). In the case of bounded domains, we establish the asymptotic behavior of the low-lying (positive and negative) energies in the limit of strong magnetic field. Moreover, for a constant magnetic field $B$, we study the problem on the half-plane and find that the Dirac operator has continuous spectrum except for a gap of size $a\_0\sqrt{B}$, where $a\_0\in (0,\sqrt{2})$ is a universal constant. Remarkably, this constant characterizes certain energies of the system in a bounded domain as well. We discuss how these findings, together with our previous work, give a fairly complete description of the eigenvalue asymptotics of magnetic two-dimensional Dirac operators under general boundary conditions.

This paper is devoted to semiclassical estimates of the eigenvalues of the Pauli operator on a bounded open set whose boundary carries Dirichlet conditions. Consider a Dirac operator defined on the whole plane with a mass term of size m supported outside a domain Omega. We give a simple proof for the norm resolvent convergence, as m goes to infinity, of this operator to a Dirac operator defined on Omega with infinite mass boundary conditions. The result is valid for bounded and unbounded domains and gives estimates on the speed of convergence. Moreover, the method easily extends when adding external matrix-valued potentials.

The Dirac operator, acting in three dimensions, is considered. Assuming that a large mass $m>0$ lies outside a smooth and bounded open set $\Omega\subset\R^3$, it is proved that its spectrum is approximated by the one of the Dirac operator on $\Omega$ with the MIT bag boundary condition. The approximation, which is developed up to and error of order $o(1/\sqrt m)$, is carried out by introducing tubular coordinates in a neighborhood of $\partial\Omega$ and analyzing the corresponding one dimensional optimization problems in the normal direction.

This paper deals with the study of the two-dimensional Dirac operatorwith infinite mass boundary condition in a sector. We investigate the question ofself-adjointness depending on the aperture of the sector: when the sector is convexit is self-adjoint on a usual Sobolev space whereas when the sector is non-convexit has a family of self-adjoint extensions parametrized by a complex number of theunit circle. As a byproduct of this analysis we are able to give self-adjointnessresults on polygones. We also discuss the question of distinguished self-adjointextensions and study basic spectral properties of the operator in the sector.

This paper is devoted to the mathematical investigation of the MIT bag model, that is the Dirac operator on a smooth and bounded domain with certain boundary conditions. We prove that the operator is self-adjoint and, when the mass goes to infinity, we provide spectral asymptotic results.

This article is devoted to the construction of new numerical methods for the semiclassical Schr\"odinger equation. A phase-amplitude reformulation of the equation is described where the Planck constant epsilon is not a singular parameter. This allows to build splitting schemes whose accuracy is spectral in space, of up to fourth order in time, and independent of epsilon before the caustics. The second-order method additionally preserves the L^2-norm of the solution just as the exact flow does. In this first part of the paper, we introduce the basic splitting scheme in the nonlinear case, reveal our strategy for constructing higher-order methods, and illustrate their properties with simulations. In the second part, we shall prove a uniform convergence result for the first-order splitting scheme applied to the linear Schr\"odinger equation with a potential.

This paper is devoted to the asymptotic analysis of the optimal Sobolev constants in the semiclassical limit and in any dimension. We combine semiclassical arguments and concentration-compactness estimates to tackle the case when an electromagnetic field is added as well as a smooth boundary carrying a Robin condition. As a byproduct of the semiclassical strategy, we also get exponentially weighted localization estimates of the minimizers.

This article is devoted to the construction of numerical methods which remain insensitive to the smallness of the semiclassical parameter for the linear Schr{\"o}dinger equation in the semiclassical limit. We specifically analyse the convergence behavior of the first-order splitting. Our main result is a proof of uniform accuracy. We illustrate the properties of our methods with simulations.

We study dimension reduction for the three-dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a long-range and anisotropic dipole-dipole interaction modeling dipolar Bose-Einstein condensation in a strong interaction regime. The cases of disk shaped condensates (confinement from dimension three to dimension two) and cigar shaped condensates (confinement to dimension one) are analyzed. In both cases, the analysis combines averaging tools and semiclassical techniques. Asymptotic models are derived, with rates of convergence in terms of two small dimensionless parameters characterizing the strength of the confinement and the strength of the interaction between atoms.

We study the problem of dimension reduction for the three dimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE) describing a Bose-Einstein condensate confined in a strongly anisotropic harmonic trap. Since the gas is assumed to be in a strong interaction regime, we have to analyze two combined singular limits: a semi-classical limit in the transport direction and the strong partial confinement limit in the transversal direction. We prove that both limits commute together and we provide convergence rates. The by-products of this work are approximated models in reduced dimension for the GPE, with a priori estimates of the approximation errors.

In this paper, we consider a stationary model for a nucleon interacting with the $\omega$ and $\sigma$ mesons in the atomic nucleus. The model is relativistic, and we study it in a nuclear physics nonrelativistic limit. By a shooting method, we prove the existence of infinitely many solutions with a given angular momentum. These solutions are ordered by the number of nodes of each component.

We prove, by a shooting method, the existence of infinitely many solutions of the form $\psi(x^0,x) = e^{-i\Omega x^0}\chi(x)$ of the nonlinear Dirac equation {equation*} i\underset{\mu=0}{\overset{3}{\sum}} \gamma^\mu \partial_\mu \psi- m\psi - F(\bar{\psi}\psi)\psi = 0 {equation*} where $\Omega>m>0,$ $\chi$ is compactly supported and \[F(x) = \{{array}{ll} p|x|^{p-1} & \text{if} |x|>0 0 & \text{if} x=0 {array}.] with $p\in(0,1),$ under some restrictions on the parameters $p$ and $\Omega.$ We study also the behavior of the solutions as $p$ tends to zero to establish the link between these equations and the M.I.T. bag model ones.

Quantum chromodynamics (QCD) is the theory of strong interaction and accounts for the internal structure of hadrons. Physicists introduced phe- nomenological models such as the M.I.T. bag model, the bag approximation and the soliton bag model to study the hadronic properties. We prove, in this paper, the existence of excited state solutions in the symmetric case and of a ground state solution in the non-symmetric case for the soliton bag and the bag approximation models thanks to the concentration compactness method. We show that the energy functionals of the bag approximation model are Gamma -limits of sequences of soliton bag model energy functionals for the ground and excited state problems. The pre- compactness, up to translation, of the sequence of ground state solutions associated with the soliton bag energy functionals in the non-symmetric case is obtained combining the Gamma -convergence theory and the concentration-compactness method. Finally, we give a rigorous proof of the original derivation of the M.I.T. bag equations done by Chodos, Jaffe, Johnson, Thorn and Weisskopf via a limit of bag approximation ground state solutions in the spherical case. The supersymmetry property of the Dirac operator is the key point in many of our arguments.
