Abstract

The modular multilevel converter (MMC) is a promising converter technology for various highvoltage high-power applications. The reason to that is low-distortion output quantities can be achieved with low average switching frequencies per switch and without output filters. Modular multilevel converter pulse width modulation based control approaches are evaluated. The multicarrier PWM techniques such as Phase disposition PWM (PDPWM), Phase opposition disposition PWM (PODPWM), Alternate phase opposition disposition PWM (APODPWM) is employed and a comparative study is done based on the quality of the load voltage and load current output. This paper presents the simulation of single phase modular multilevel converter based on Half-Bridge sub module topology. Abstract

Magnetic induction (MI)-operated wireless sensor networks (WSNs), due to their similar performance in air, underwater, and underground mediums, are rapidly emerging networks that offer a wide range of applications, including mine prevention, power grid maintenance, underground pipeline monitoring, and upstream oil monitoring. MI-based wireless underground sensor networks (WUSNs), utilizing small antenna coils, offer a viable solution by providing consistent channel conditions. The cross-layer protocols address the specific challenges of WUSNs, leading to improved network performance and enhanced operational capabilities in real-world applications. This work proposes a distributed cross-layer solution, leveraging the hybrid marine predator naked mole rat algorithm (MPNMRA) for MI-operated WUSNs. The solution, called DECMN (distributed energy-throughput efficient cross-layer network using MPNMRA), is designed to optimize the MI communication channels, MI relay coils (MI waveguide), and MI waveguide with 3D coils to fulfill quality of service (QoS) parameters, while achieving energy savings and throughput gains. DECMN utilizes the interactions between various layers to develop cross-layer protocols based on MPNMRA. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of DECMN, offering energy savings, increased throughput, and reliable transmissions within the performance limits. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

This study evaluates an improved organic Rankine cycle (ORC) with a solar energy source for hydrogen production and presents functional results, validation, and sensitivity analysis. The increase in condenser outlet temperature causes a decrease in the total thermal efficiency, a decrease in the efficiency of the ORC, a decrease in the total electrical efficiency, and a decrease in hydrogen production. The most striking result is that the net generating power of the system is equal to 4200 W, which is equivalent to producing 0.02372 g/s of hydrogen and 0.0810 g/s of oxygen. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Increased penetration of non-linear loads like power electronic converterbased systems have aggravated issue of harmonic injection in the power system.Neutral current harmonics is an issue of concern for three phase four wiresystem. This paper is focused on the elimination of neutral current harmonicswith the help of shunt active power filter based on star-delta transformmer andsingle phase half bridge inverter. The presented active power filter eliminatesharmonics present in neutral current which in turn helps in mitigating thirdharmonics from the supply mains. The topology has advantage of reduced numberof semiconducting devices and switching losses as compared to conventionalthree phase active filter. Simulation studies for the proposed active filter ispresented and compared with behavior of conventional three phase active filter.Experimental results for DSP based laboratory prototype of the proposed filterare shown to substantiate performance of system. Both simulation as well asexperimental results demonstrate effective compensation provided by singlephase half bridge inverter based active filter.

Abstract

A Cascaded three level inverter is controlled by using a three level HCC technique. The method has certain advantages compared to a two level HCC, such as a reduced switching frequency and a variation in switching frequency. However, this method suffers from tracking error in current due to dead zones provided between bands. This work aims at the development of modified three level hysteresis current controller (HCC) for a cascaded three level inverter-based shunt active power filter (SAPF) to mitigate the harmonics in a three-phase three-wire systems. Such method significantly reduces the current tracking error, the maximum switching frequency of the inverter as well as the variation in switching frequency. The simulation of the cascaded three level inverter-based shunt active power filter with a modified three level hysteresis current control is carried out in a PSIM environment for 2.5 kVA system. To validate the effect of degree of overlapping between the bands, two cases of a modified three level HCC are proposed. Both the cases are compared with conventional two-level HCC and three level HCC techniques. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed scheme. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
