2. Ice repellency investigation and proposed free energy approach for nucleation inhibition.

Abstract

AbstractIn this work, we investigated the contribution of surface energy to predict the nucleation initiation for anti-icing purposes. The Gibbs free energy was calculated on flat and micro surfaces to verify the influence of wettability and morphology in the phase transition delaying. Surfaces with different surface energies were generated on Si substrates by the lithography method and followed by an energy chemical compounds coating process. The same morphology surfaces then underwent Ultra Violet – Ozone treatment to generate a wide range of wettability from superhydrophilic to superhydrophobic. Two groups of flat and structured surfaces were then simultaneously used to emphasize the contribution of heat transfer delaying and prohibiting nucleation. A high-speed camera and a stopwatch were used to determine the phase change moment and icing time. The energy barrier for nucleation documented the good agreement with measured icing time, demonstrating the importance of surface energy and suggesting a paradigm for ice-phobic surfaces. 6. Visible light photocatalytic activity of TiO2/MWCNTS nanocomposite prepared using hydrothermal method

Abstract

Titanium dioxide nanocomposites/multi-walled carbon nanotubes (TiO2/MWCNTs) were successfully synthesized by hydrothermal method. The synthesized TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposites (10, 30 and 50% TiO2/MWCNTs) nanocomposites were characterized with powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscope(TEM) and UV–visible diffuse reflection spectrum (DRS). The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposite for the degradation of Rhodamin B (RhB) under visible light irradiation was studied. Compared with pure TiO2 nanoparticles, the TiO2/MWCNTs nanocomposite displayed higher photocatalytic activity for the degradation of RhB and the 30% TiO2/MWCNTs photocatalyst exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity.

Abstract

In recent years, photocatalysis has been used as an environmentally friendly method for the degradation of organic pigments in water. In this study, Ce3+/Ce4+-doped ZrO2/CuO as a mixed semiconductor oxide was successfully prepared by a one-step hydrothermal method. The Ce3+/Ce4+-doped ZrO2/CuO has shown high degradation efficiency of methylene blue (MB), and the maximum degradation percentage was observed to be 94.5% at 180 min under irradiation visible light. The photocatalytic activity increases significantly by doping Ce3+/Ce4+ in ZrO2/CuO for MB degradation. Ce3+/Ce4+ doping is shown to reduce the (e-/h+) recombination rate and improve the charge transfer, leading to enhanced photocatalytic activity of materials. The materials were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), FTIR, EDS, BET and diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). Abstract

AbstractThree compounds were identified from the ethanolic extract of Anemarrhena asphodeloidesBunge (A. asphodeloides) plant using silica gel chromatography. Their structures were confirmed by NMR and MS data analysis. The inhibitory activities against the MCF7 cancer cell line were evaluated and study the caspase 3 activation activity. Compound 3 exhibited good inhibitory activity and caspase 3 activation activity on the MCF7 cell line.

AbstractThe flowers of Polianthesspecies were collected in the Thai Nguyen city, Viet Nam. Their volatile oil extracts were obtained via supercritical CO2extraction and chemical compositions of the volatile oil part were subsequently analysed by GC-FID and GC/MS systems. Some major chemical compositions of volatile oil were identified as methyl 2-amino benzoate, isoeugenol, 1-Eicosene, indole, 5-octadecene, benzylbenzoate, diisobutylphthalate, 1-nonadecene, trans-farnesol. The chemical compositions of volatile oil of Polianthes sessiliflora(P. sessiliflora) and Polianthes longiflora(P. longiflora) species were being reported for the first time.The activities of total volatile oil extract of the Polianthesgenus flowers against HeLa, A459, and Hep-2 cancer cell lines were evaluated.
