It has been demonstrated that together with C1-C6 aliphatic hydrocarbons up to 20% C6-C9 aromatic hydrocarbons are formed from a mixture of CO:H2 (1:1) in the presence of 8.2% Fe-4.5% K/Al2O3. A new method for determining the parameter a in the Schultz-Flory equation has been proposed which is applicable to the synthesis of low molecular mass C1-C6 hydrocarbons. It has been shown that the mass fractions of aromatic hydrocarbons are higher than the values expected on the basis of a step-wise mechanism for growth of the hydrocarbon chain.

It was determined that 8.2% Fe-1–4.5% K/Al2O3 catalysts are active in the synthesis of C1-C6 aliphatic and C6-C8 aromatic hydrocarbons (AH) from mixtures of CO:H2=1:2–2:1. The AH content in the liquid reaction products is 90%. A discussion of the synthesis schemes for AH is presented.

1.Catalysts obtained by the decomposition of Co(NO)(CO)3 on zeolite sodium forms display activity in the synthesis of C1-C4 hydrocarbons from CO and H2 at 220–260°C and atmospheric pressure. The catalysts may be arranged in the following series relative to decreasing specific activity: Co/NaM > Co/ZHM ˜ Co/NaA > Co/NaY > Co/NaX.2.Cobalt on the external surface of zeolites participates to a greater content in the formation of the active sites for the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2.
