Quality of working life has been recently observed as a degree of employee satisfaction and job satisfaction. Hence, many organizational policies have been formulated to effortfully upgrade job performance which leads to not only job satisfaction but also employee satisfaction. However, the question is that whether there is other factors impact on quality of working life that the organizations have neglected. The study was conducted to identify the factors of quality of working life in the case of front-line staff in the Vietnamese aviation sector. The study focused on 212 aviation employees who came from many various airports in Vietnam. The Cronbach’s alpha of each construct was found to be greater than 0.81. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was applied to examine the internal reliability of measurements and structural equation modeling (SEM) was used to test the goodness of the proposed model. The findings of the study supported eight hypotheses which indicated that perceived organization supports (POS), emotion exhaustion (EE), extra-role services (ES), and servicescape (SE) affected on quality of working life (QWL) of aviation employees. Moreover, this research discovered that intrinsic motivation (IM) played as a mediating factor that affected negatively on EE and positively on ES. The implication of the study suggested that the more POS employees recognized with the caring, approvals policies, the closer level the employees and managers incorporated, and POS was a key factor to enhance the employee performances which was referred by extra-role services, emotional exhaustion, and quality of working life. As a fast-growing industry in our contemporary society, the Vietnamese aviation sector priorly needed to tackle the issue of aviation working service environment which implied as servicescape in this study to upgrade the quality of employee working life and toward the quality of Vietnamese aviation service.

With fast-growing aviation markets, many developing countries are showing remarkable economic development in global terms. As significant growth of air transportation is crucially interrelated with regional growth, it is essential to identify relevant criteria to ensure effective allocation of investments in this regard. This study aimed to investigate airport centrality using social network analysis to detect the key hubs and examine the interrelationship between airport centrality and regional economy indicators in Vietnamese regions. The results revealed that the cities of Tan Son Nhat, Noi Bai, and Da Nang were the key regional hub airports in the air transport network and the development of these leading cities had played a significant role in promoting the improvement of the entire domestic air network. Moreover, the results showed a strong positive correlation between airport centrality and regional growth features. Therefore, policymakers can optimize their decision-making processes in relation to sustainable regional development by considering air transport mobility and network in addition to conventional socioeconomic criteria.

Intercultural student exchange can positively impact education, research, and society. Research-by-design has been put forward in design education as an approach to explicitly address the integration of education and research. The problem is that design schools develop their own interpretation of this approach, which brings difficulty in virtually comparing and learning from the generated design proposals. This case is evident in intercultural parallel design studios that deal with diverging socio-cultural and institutional traditions. In addressing this problem and maximizing the benefits of intercultural exchange, this study proposes to adopt a meta perspective and use the design as co-evolution model as a framework for analyzing and comparing design data generated by different research-by-design approaches. The study applies this meta perspective on an intercultural architectural design studio jointly organized by Ton Duc Thang University (Vietnam) and Hasselt University (Belgium). Exposure dose rate to the tumor and surrounding cells during neutron beam irradiation in Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) comes not only from heavy charged particles produced from the 10B(n,α)7Li nuclear reaction, but also from neutron-induced reactions with other biological elements in living tissue, as well as from gamma rays leaked from the reactor core. At Dalat Research Reactor, Vietnam, the neutron and gamma dose rate distribution inside a water phantom were measured by using activation method and Thermoluminescent Dosimeter (TLD) detector, respectively. The results showed that effective thermal neutron dose rate along the center line of the water phantom had a maximum value of 479 mSv h-1 at 1 cm in phantom and then decreases rapidly to 4.87 mSv h-1 at 10 cm. The gamma dose rate along the center line of the water phantom also reach its maximum of 4.31 mSv h-1 at 1 cm depth and decreases to 1.16 mSv h-1 at 10 cm position. The maximum biological tumor dose rate was 1.74 Gy-eq h-1, not high enough to satisfy the treatment requirement of brain tumors. However, the results of this work are important in supporting of BNCT study in the upcoming stages at Dalat Research Reactor.

In this research, dose calculation and measurement from B10 (n, α) Li7 reaction usingfiltered neutron beam at the Nuclear Research Institute have been reported. Calculation was carried out by Monte Carlo method using MCNP5 code. Neutron activation technique using vanadium foil was employed to determine neutron flux at various positions in phantom from which neutron dose has been calculated using conversion factor. These calculations are basics for the dose determination research of the Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) in Vietnam.

Traffic congestion and transportation-related environmental pollution are identified as the severe problems in many countries all over the world, especially in the developing countries, and Vietnam is also not an exception. In the context of Ho Chi Minh City, the biggest city located in Southern in Vietnam, millions of student and employee annually immigrate there to live, work and study; therefore, encouraging them to use bus service to reduce pressure on urban environment and traffic and transport is significant. The goal of this study was to recognize the behaviour of mode choice among student and employee using disaggregate model. To achieve this goal, binary logit model was used under disaggregate choice method. The findings indicated that, for student, ‘Gender’, ‘Motorcycle ownership’, ‘Travel time’, ‘Travel distance’, ‘Migrant status’, ‘Convenience’, ‘Safety’, and ‘Awareness’ affected their mode choices; for employee, ‘Married’, ‘Income’, ‘Children’, ‘House ownership’, ‘Motorcycle ownership’, ‘Migrant status’, ‘Travel cost’, ‘Travel distance’, ‘Convenience’, ‘Safety’, ‘Awareness’, and ‘Social norms’ played vital roles in their choices of means of transport. Besides, although motorcycle was the premier transport mode for both employee and student every day, they showed their perceptions of the negative sides of motorcycle to environment and community, and also expressed their willingness to switch to travel by bus if public transportation infrastructure and quality were upgraded.

Risky behaviors lead to road traffic safety accidents in Vietnam. Some individual risky behaviors were studied through distinct models to understand road user behaviors and to propose measurements for traffic safety improvement. This paper generally aimed to evaluate powerful prediction of Integrated Behavioral Models (IBM) for three risky behaviors i.e., driving after drinking (DAD), illegal changing direction (IDC), and speeding. Potential countermeasures will be proposed based on results. Results indicate that IBM successfully explains risky behaviors, especially for DAD. Among explainable variables, perceived severity is the only factor affecting all three risky behaviors.

Motorcycle helmet usage among child passengers is an existing problem in Vietnam. Although a number of social campaigns and interventions have been implemented to tackle the problem, still the children helmet wearing rate has been relatively low. In addition, parents have had large impact on motorcycle helmet usage of children; however, such interventions under emphasized the role of parents. Given that behavioral change would bring benefits to both those designing intervention efforts and the whole citizens adapting motorcycle helmet wearing among children, this study explicated the mechanisms of campaign effectiveness under the context of parents’ roles as promoters for children helmet usage. The research model expanded the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) by both integrating injunctive, descriptive norms and habit as one of variables affecting TPB structure. Research was conducted in Ho Chi Minh City during 3-month period. The study was carried out with a sample size of 288. Results indicated support for TPB predictions. As conclusion, normative influence and habit had positively influenced on parents’ behavior. Perceived behavioral control, attitude, injunctive norm, descriptive norms, and habit remained a significant predictor of parents’ intention to safety helmet usage among children, and they mediated the impact of the campaign on parents’ intention. Descriptive norm was not significant in predicting parents’ behavior. Practical implications for policy makers in promoting campaigns and intervention were also discussed.

In modern ages, universities have shaped the civilized society and contributed to its knowledge base by educating the workforce, and providing consultation to government and businesses. In the wake of globalization, it is necessary to establish mutual beneficial relationships between universities and their urban areas; hence, the university - city complex model. In the context of Vietnam, most universities are located in urban areas; none of which, however, has fully engaged in the local community in meaningful ways. With the core idea of “Building an intelligent and ecologically friendly city”, this paper proposes the design of a university - city complex in Hung Yen province, Vietnam. This design will stimulate sustainable development of the local community through green architecture, spatial planning of university complex, and careful design of education programs and services. This paper will also present the conceptual knowledge of the subject, potential factors driving the development, and successful case studies of university - city complexes.

Cambodian accident statistics show that motivating motorcyclists to make proper use of a safety helmet is a top priority for road safety policy makers. Yet, currently there is no insight whatsoever in the psychological precursors of helmet use in Cambodia. As such, it remains unclear which variables to target by interventions aimed at promoting the use of safety helmets. Therefore, this study adopted a socio-cognitive perspective towards the examination of helmet use in a sample of Cambodian young adults (N = 344). Two theoretical models, i.e., Health Belief Model and Theory of Planned Behaviour were combined and further complemented with two norm-related variables, i.e., descriptive- and personal-norm. Based on the results, two important conclusions can be drawn. Firstly, the sample investigated in this study is clearly favourably disposed towards the use of helmets while riding. Secondly, in decreasing order, helmet use behaviour was found to be determined by the following five key-determinants: perceived behavioural control over a specific set of inhibiting situational factors (i.e., mostly when driving short distances, at night, or when dressed up to go out), perceived behavioural control in general, perceived susceptibility, personal norm, and behavioural intentions. Policy makers are recommended to reevaluate their current behavioural change methods for young adults being favourably disposed towards the use of safety helmets. Rather than focussing on motivation-oriented methods, there is a need for strategies that (1) stimulate the translation of good intentions into the desirable behaviour and (2) encourage young adults not to relapse in case they are exposed to risk facilitating circumstances. The Proton Engineering Frontier Project developed a 13-MHz pulsed, RF cavity for heavy-ion implanter applications. Typically, slow changes in the room temperature and the mechanical vibrations of the vacuum device may be primary sources of disturbances, and the accelerating cavity of the implanter may not be able to operate at the resonance frequency owing to disturbance effects. We need a voltage-controlled oscillator phased-locked loop circuit to make a control system that could suppress the disturbance effects; thus, the accelerating gradient of the cavity always reached a peak level for a given input power and coupling. An analog-circuit-based RF-frequency-tracking system was developed. Next, we obtained the optimal control parameters for the key control components. Finally, we measured the system performance between an open loop and a closed loop. The key point of the system design is to control the driving frequency that is used to operate the RF source by keeping the phase at around 0 degrees with respect to the resonance peak of the cavity. The experimental results showed that the fluctuations of the control loop error signal were suppressed by about a factor of 10. The presented feedback loop is implemented as a standard proportional controller. The loop p-gain is 120 k.

Petroleum consumption for road transportation is well-known as the largest source of CO2 emissions. Worldwide, biofuel is becoming more attractive as substitute for crude oil owing to the increasing demand for environmentally friendly energy and its contribution towards petro dependency reduction and climate change mitigation. This paper reviews the facts and prospects of biofuel production in Vietnam. A SWOT model is adopted to study the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of biofuels production. The conclusion is drawn that with advantages of weather conditions, soil conditions, the availability of biomass and commitment from government, the country has potential to develop biobuels for domestic consumption. However, threats to production are posed by social acceptance, land use, and technology. Thus, biofuels production still need more supports from government through robust policies, regulations, and institutional framework.

ZnO thin films on sapphire substrate were fabricated by ion implantation combined with thermal oxidation. A sapphire substrate was implanted with 50 keV zinc ions at 350 °C with a fluence of 1.5 × 10 17 ions cm −2 , then annealed in a tube furnace in oxygen ambient in 2 h at 650 °C. Photoluminescence spectra were collected at temperatures from 80 to 300 K to understand the optical properties of this film. The photoluminescence spectrum at 300 K included a UV peak at 377 nm and a broad peak from deep level emission at 500 nm. The fine spectra structure at 80 K consisted of the free exciton at 3.373 eV and the donor bound exciton at 3.357 eV. The first and second phonon replicas of free excitons were also observed and the origin of the deep level emission peak was clarified.

An ion implanter, which can serve as a metal-ion supply, has been constructed and performance tested. Copper ions are generated and extracted from a Bernas ion source with a heating crucible that provides feed gases to sustain the plasma. Sable arc plasmas can be sustained in the ion source for a crucible temperature in excess of 350°C. Stable extraction of the ions is possible for arc currents less than 0.3 A. Arc currents increase with the induced power of a block cathode and the transverse field in the ion source. Cu+ ions in the extracted beam are separated using a dipole magnet. A 20 μA Cu+ ion current can be extracted with a 0.2 A arc current. The ion current can support a dose of 10 16 ions/ cm 2 over an area of 15 cm 2 within a few hours.
