Studies on rural transformation in the context of urbanization have always analyzed it from a single linear perspective, either top-down or bottom-up. This leads to simplistic generalizations of rural transformation models and the standardization of policy implementation. Based on the TPSN analytical framework, this study adds the temporality dimension to form a more comprehensive TPSNT framework. This paper explores the complex construction of rural space in rural transformation from the five dimensions of "territory, place, scale, network and temporality" and takes the urban village, Hongren, in Kunming City, China, as a case study to analyze the specific transformation process of a village. The research revealed the following: First, in the face of land loss caused by government land acquisition, traditional rural autonomous organizations that have been hidden under the modern governance system have been revived under the influence of traditional elites and completed bottom-up territorialization by using some "maneuver spaces "to form a spatial base for negotiation with the government. Second, the cohesion of traditional rural autonomous organizations has increased during this process, and with the help of mobile capital such as media and personal connections, they have developed social networks that transcend the spatial boundaries of villages. Third, these newly constructed social networks are used to carry out various political strategies at various scales and finally negotiated with the government to rewrite the planning plan so that the village can continue to develop and integrate into the city. Finally, the analysis of the temporal dimensions of Hongren village revealed that even within the same village, changes in the other four dimensions develop dynamically, and rural transformation is an ongoing process. Therefore, when the government deals with rural issues in the process of urbanization, it should avoid a one-size-fits-all approach. The need to act on urban expansion has been a common concern throughout the history of urbanism. Different authors have shown how in industrialized countries the old distinctions between urban and rural become blurred. The location and conformation of new leisure, commercial and tertiary objects have become triggers for new looks at the urbanization edges of industrial cities. Although they have been less explored in non-industrial cities or cities with a lower degree of industrialization, different studies show that these characteristics seem to be combined there with other factors such as social housing, progressive expansion of the urban fabric and degraded areas. Nevertheless, could there be a theory that enlightens the conditions and transformations of the metropolitan edge and guides their research? The aim of this work is to compare four key approaches: spaces in socio-spatial transformation, multi-actor project, multiple, dynamic and heterogeneous uses, and non-universal spatial delimitation, focusing on three categories: concept, attribute, and methodology. This research is grounded in the selection of relevant publications based on their substantive scope, significant impact factor index, and/or number of citations, as well as the international recognition of researchers. These findings underscore the importance of theorizing the metropolitan edge as a process that transforms inherited spaces according to their socio-economic, historical, and environmental contexts. The results reflect the need for denominations and classifications that help us to differentiate analytically and cartographically the multiple landscapes of the metropolitan edge and question us about the specificity of this territory that extends between urban nuclei and rural space, the processes that have overlapped over time, and their logics. Using data from 30-province/autonomous in China, this study systematically examines the impact and transmission mechanism of increased income and climate change on energy consumption. This study innovatively uses urbanization and industrial structure upgrade indicators to examine the indirect mechanism of income impact on energy consumption. The findings indicate that income has direct and indirect impacts on energy consumption. Income can directly affect energy consumption and the impact has an inverted U shape. In addition, income can indirectly reduce energy consumption by promoting urbanization and industrial structure upgrading. Climate change also has a significant negative effect on energy consumption; however, the climate effect of energy consumption is smaller than the income effect. Additionally, the impact of income on energy consumption has significant temporal and regional differences. Temporally, income shows a significant upward trend in reducing energy consumption. Regionally, in the developed eastern region, income has a negative impact on energy consumption. In the underdeveloped western region, income has a significant positive impact on energy consumption. Considering the characteristics of China's energy consumption, we should resist the “one size fits all” energy policy and focus on improving energy consumption on income growth, urbanization, and industrial structure, enhancing the efficiency and targeting.

The escalating pace of urbanization and human activities presents formidable challenges to landuse patterns and ecological environments. Achieving a harmonious coexistence between humans and nature of high quality has emerged as a global imperative. Constructing an ecological security pattern has become an essential approach to mitigating the adverse ecological impacts of urban sprawl, safeguarding human well-being, and promoting the healthy development of ecosystems. Focusing on ecosystem sustainability, stability, and integrity, this study constructed the ecological security pattern in rapidly urbanizing areas, emphasizing achieving a well-balanced integration of urban expansion and ecological preservation. Ecological sources were identified by an evaluation system of "ecosystem service function–ecological sensitivity–landscape connectivity". Resistance surfaces were constructed by integrating natural and human factors. Ecological corridors and nodes were extracted by methods such as the minimum cumulative resistance and gravity models. Taking Nanchang City as an example, the results show that there were 15 ecological sources, primarily woodland, displaying a distinct "island" phenomenon. Additionally, there were 41 ecological corridors with a combined length of 2170.54 km, exhibiting a dense distribution in the southwest and a sparse distribution in the northeast. The city was found to encompass 122 ecological nodes, predominantly situated along the corridors near the ecological sources, indicating a strong spatial aggregation pattern. An optimized ecological security pattern of "one ring, two belts, three zones, and multiple nodes" was proposed for synergizing ecological protection, restoration, and rapid urbanizing. As the fourth pole of China's economic growth, the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration plays a significant role in reinforcing the ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and is crucial for ecological and environmental protection strategies. In this paper, Google Earth Engine (GEE) and the MODIS images from 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2022 were utilized to construct the Improved Remote Sensing Ecological Index (IRSEI) to characterize the ecological quality more accurately than RSEI. Additionally, combined with nighttime light remote sensing data, land use data and socio-economic data, the GDP sub-industry spatialization model was utilized to analyze the urbanization process in depth. To dynamically monitor and evaluate the interaction between urbanization and ecological environment quality, a coupling coordination model incorporating the above methods was developed. The results show that (1) The effective information of the IRSEI in ecological quality analysis increased by 3.26% compared to RSEI, and the correlation with each ecological index was higher; (2) The ecological environment quality of the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration peaked in 2005 and has been declining since then, with the rate of decline gradually slowing down from 2005 to 2022; (3) The GDP sub-industry spatialization model is more suitable for characterizing the scattered villages, and can effectively exhibit the urbanization process. From 2000 to 2022, urbanization was rapidly developed, and the level of core cities such as Chengdu and Chongqing far exceeded those of neighboring cities; (4) The coupling coordination level between IRSEI and GDP spatialization model generally increased, indicating ongoing improvements in the synergy between ecological environment and urbanization in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration. This study developed a method for quickly monitoring and assessing the relationship between ecological environment quality and urbanization by using IRSEI and GDP sub-industry spatialization model, and provides scientific analytical methods and data support for monitoring and governing the ecological environment in emerging urban agglomerations.

With the rapid progression of urbanization, cities are increasingly confronted with multifaceted challenges encompassing climate change, population expansion, and resource constraints. Consequently, fostering the development of resilient cities has emerged as a pivotal imperative within future territorial spatial planning. In this paper, we searched the Web of Science Core Collection database for data related to resilient cities in the perspective of territorial spatial planning from 2004 to 2022, and conducted a bibliometric analysis using the Bibliometrix R software package. The results show that: (1) From 2004 to 2022, the number of papers in the field of resilient cities research in the perspective of land spatial planning totaled 933, with a fluctuating upward trend of annual publications. The top three journals in terms of publication are Sustainability, Cities and Landscape and Urban Planning. (2) There are 2,651 researchers from 71 countries or regions contributing to the field,with the top three authors being SHARIFI A, BRUNETTA G, and BARTHEL S, but most of the authors (90.49%) have published only one paper. In addition, developed countries have strong research strength in this field. (3) The top ten keywords in the field of resilient cities research from the perspective of territorial spatial planning are Cities/City, Resilience, Management, Ecosystem services, Climate-change, Urban, Framework, Adaptation, Governance and Space. These keywords reflect the fact that topics related to resilience management and sustainable development of urban areas are hot topics in the field. Water, Health, Geography, Demand, Decision-Making and Built Environment are the research directions of resilient cities from the perspective of future territorial spatial planning.

This paper investigates whether the experience of being left during childhood affects the new generation of migrant workers' willingness to settle in towns and cities and its internal mechanism from a life-cycle perspective. Using the 2017 China Migrants Dynamic Survey, we found that the experience of being left behind during childhood has a significantly negative impact on people's willingness to settle in towns and cities, and it has an impact through the individual's education level, health status, financial situation and social skills. Furthermore, heterogeneity analysis reveals that the abovementioned effects were more notable in the samples left-behind experience with female, high frequency of mobility, short period of mobility, cross-provincial, and being left behind when both parents are working in cities. Urbanization has had a profound impact on wetlands, and wetland conservation and restoration have attracted much attention. However, the detailed impacts of different urbanization and wetland changing processes on ecosystem services (ESs) are not well understood. Based on long-time series of remote sensing data (1990–2020), flood mitigation (FM), water purification (WP), carbon sequestration (CS), and biodiversity conservation (BC) were quantified in the Hang-Jia-Hu (HJH) region, China. According to the changing trend of urban land, the study period was divided into three urbanization stages: slow urbanization (1990–1998), rapid urbanization (1998–2013), and moderate urbanization (2013–2020). Regression analysis was used to explore the quantitative relationship between urbanization/wetland changes and ESs. The results showed that the urban land expansion rates in the slow urbanization, rapid urbanization, and moderate urbanization stages were 46.51 km2/yr, 100.62 km2/yr, and 70.87 km2/yr, respectively, and the corresponding wetland changing rates were 5.14 km2/yr, 19.54 km2/yr and −20.88 km2/yr, respectively. FM decreased in the slow and moderate urbanization stages and increased in the rapid urbanization stage, and WP increased in the slow and rapid urbanization stages and decreased in the moderate urbanization stage. Urbanization led to a decrease in FM, CS, and BC. Wetland restoration improved these ESs, while wetland loss caused a decline in multiple ESs in the slow and rapid urbanization stages. Wetland restoration partially offsets the negative effects of urbanization and wetland loss on ESs in the rapid urbanization stage. Urbanization and wetland changes have linear and nonlinear effects on ESs in different urbanization stages. Wetland restoration is an effective way to improve ESs in urbanization regions. This study can make an important contribution to sustainable wetland ecosystem development in urbanization regions.

Urbanization and eco-efficiency are two interactive systems, contributing to sustainable urban development jointly. However, the synchronized development between them has not received sufficient attention. In light of this gap, this paper conducts an analysis on seeking the synchronized development between sustainable urbanization and eco-efficiency in the context of China. The aim of this study is to uncover the spatial and temporal performance of the synchronized relationship between urbanization process (UP) and eco-efficiency (EE) in a sample of 255 Chinese cities. To this end, entropy method, super efficiency SBM and coupling coordination degree model are employed to conduct the research analysis, covering the period of 2005 to 2019. The findings of this study reveal that (1) there is about 97% of the surveyed cities that exhibit a moderate level of coupling coordination between urbanization process and eco-efficiency (CC-UE). (2) Spatial disparities in the performance of CC-UE are evident, with cities in South and Southeast China demonstrating better CC-UE performance than their counterparts. However, this disparity has been gradually diminishing in recent years. (3) Local perspective presented an evident spatial autocorrelation within the 255 cities analyzed. These research findings provide valuable insights not only for the policy-makers and practitioners to adopt measures for achieving a synchronized development between urbanization process and eco-efficiency in the Chinese context, but also for further studies on sustainable development in the international context. This essay focuses on making the process of urbanization-metropolitanization of the Puebla-Tlaxcaltec Valley intelligible. It does this both on a macro-regional level and in the sphere of the daily lives of those living there. Thus, the author deals with the general process of the valley's urbanization, the theoretical crosscutting issues that, from the standpoint of Marxist political economy and the sociology of social reproduction, turn this into an object of knowledge, and the methodological configurations appropriate for doing so. The Ocean decade (2021–2030) for sustainable development proclaimed in 2017 by the UN, seeks to promote and conserve the sustainable use of oceans, seas, and marine resources. For this, the distribution of n-alkanes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and biomarkers, in sediments from the Fortaleza coastal zone (Mucuripe harbor (MH) and Inner Continental shelf (ICS)) were used to assess the impacts of anthropogenic activities in the area. The concentrations of total n-alkanes (Σ16 n-alkanes) in MH and ICS sediments varied from 35.9 to 94.9 and 17.9 to 197.3 μg g−1, respectively, while the isoprenoids phytane and pristane in MH and ICS sediments ranged from 0.1 to 1.69 ug g−1 and from 0.14 and 1.20 μg g−1, respectively. Most of the sediment samples presented carbon preference index (CPI) values close to unity, indicating that the area is submitted to petroleum-related sources. The concentrations of Σ16 PAHs in MH and ICS sediments varied from 87.0 to 562.0 and 98 to 288.0 ng g−1. This work presents the first investigation of the petroleum biomarkers hopanes and steranes in the Fortaleza coastal zone, in which ΣBiomarkers varied from 0.10 to 1.79 and 0.02 to 0.24 ug g−1 in MH and ICS sediments, respectively. The presence at stations of biomarkers also indicates petrogenic input. The diagnosis of the distribution of pollutants in the investigated zones of the Fortaleza coast suggests contamination from urban areas and oil spills and vessel traffic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Urbanization of the Tibetan Plateau is a part of the strategies to strengthen China's national security shield as well as to enhance its national ecological safety barrier and the "water tower" of Asia. It also plays an irreplaceable role in protecting one of the last unspoiled regions in the world, ensuring that the "third pole" achieves modernization in step with the rest of China, and improving the lives of all ethnic groups that live in "roof of the world." This study discusses in detail the distinctive drivers, development path, development goals, development dynamic, and green development model and strategy of the new type of urbanization in the Tibetan Plateau, which differs markedly from the rest of China. This author asserts that urbanization of the Tibetan Plateau should involve low-intensity development, cultural transmission, protection of land and borders, conservation of water resources, small concentrations and wide dispersion of the population, social inclusivity, and improvements to the environment that benefit the people, driven by domestic investment, tourism, services, and paired assistance. The plans for the region's future development are as follows. In terms of the protection of land and borders, the Tibetan Plateau will safeguard China's national security with fast and stable development and ensure sufficient populations inhabit border and rural areas. By 2035, the permanent population of the plateau will be 16 million, and the level of urbanization will reach 52.5%, with stability in the middle stage of urbanization, thereby comprehensively improving the quality of urbanization. In terms of green development, it is necessary to improve the quality of ecological products and the capacity and level of ecological services, accentuate local features and folk customs, promote culture, and encourage people to tend livestock in rural areas and live in towns, thereby creating beautiful cities and towns in the Tibetan Plateau. In terms of the small concentrations and wide dispersion of the population, the overall urban pattern will be "three clusters, four belts, and multiple nodes." The "three clusters" are the Xining, Lhasa, and Qaidam metropolitan areas; the "four belts" are along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the Sichuan-Tibet Railway, the Ancient Tang (China)-Tibet Road, and border areas; and "multiple nodes" refers to major urban nodes and border towns. In terms of ensuring connectivity, the Qinghai-Tibet Railway was completed ahead of schedule, national security lines are being strengthened, and new infrastructure and smart cities are being built. Additionally, the land system of border cities is being reformed, a special zone for experimental border land reform is being constructed, and border towns are being prioritized in national strategies and territorial space planning. In the current context of rapid global urbanization, China's urbanization is also accelerating, and the rational planning and sustainable use of state land and space have become a growing concern. The expansion of urban geographic space is inevitably accompanied by the massive expropriation of rural land. The research objective of this article is to explore, from a jurisprudence perspective, under what circumstances land expropriation in urbanization has caused special sacrifices to farmers and what compensation standards have been determined by the Chinese courts after the special sacrifices have been caused. To achieve this research objective, the authors first identified the causal relation between the expansion of urbanization and conflicts over land expropriation in China through the empirical analysis method, and found that the expansion of urban geographic space has led to an increase in conflicts over land expropriation and that the land expropriation compensation system is the key to alleviating such conflicts. Secondly, by interpreting and summarizing the compensation standards for land expropriation in China's legislation texts and judicial judgments through normative analysis, this article finds that the compensation standards for land expropriation currently adopted by the people's courts of China are pluralistic and conflict with those in the legislation text. This article concludes that if land expropriation in urbanization leads to an infringement of civil liberties which results in a special sacrifice of citizens, such special sacrifice should be justly compensated. To effectively mitigate the conflicts concerning land expropriation in the urbanization process, China should build a unified compensation standard for land expropriation under the guidance of legislative text in the future, achieve a reconciliation between the doctrinal and practical compensation standards for land expropriation, and support the rule of law to guarantee the sustainable development of urbanization. In this paper, on the basis of a theoretical analysis, we quantitatively explore the impact of urbanization on agricultural technical efficiency after measuring the agricultural technical efficiency and the urbanization level, from the perspective of different dimensions in 34 prefecture-level cities in Northeast China, using the SE-DEA model, entropy-TOPSIS method, and the panel regression model. The results show that, except for some cities that achieved technical efficiency in individual years, such as Yichun in 2012 (1.003), and Benxi in 2015 and 2016 (1.011 and 1.254, respectively), the overall level of agricultural technical efficiency in the Northeast Region is still relatively low. The level of overall urbanization in Liaoning was significantly higher than that in Heilongjiang and Jilin. The population urbanization and land urbanization levels of most cities were relatively high, but an obvious improvement trend was not observed. Some cities even appeared to undergo the phenomenon of "anti-urbanization", and the economic urbanization showed an obvious characteristic of "high begins and low ends" in the Northeast. Moreover, except for the population urbanization, the overall urbanization, land urbanization, and economic urbanization all had a significant positive effect on the agricultural technical efficiency; the effect in Heilongjiang province was higher than that in Liaoning province, and Heilongjiang province showed an obvious catch-up trend. While enriching the research on urbanization and efficiency, this study provided political implications on strengthening the flow of factors between the urban and rural, improving the investment in technology and labor training, and improving the compensation mechanism. In order to study the corresponding impact of aquatic ecological infrastructure on the process of urbanization, and avoid the current problems of unreasonable resource development, land waste, and deterioration of the ecological environment, a research on the construction of aquatic ecological infrastructure in the process of urbanization is proposed. Based on the geographic information system technology environment, simulate and analyze the regional water ecological process, construct the landscape security pattern of water ecological management, plan and construct the type, scale, layout and structure of water ecological infrastructure, form a complete network system of water ecological infrastructure, and get the key areas of water ecological infrastructure planning. According to the principle of index system construction, the weight coefficients are determined, the comprehensive evaluation model is constructed, and the principal component analysis method is used to comprehensively evaluate the measurement of the level of aquatic ecological infrastructure construction, and to determine the spatial location, composition and composition of the BMPs aquatic ecological infrastructure in key water ecological management areas. It also guides the optimization and adjustment of urban planning and urban development and construction to realize sustainable water ecological management of the city. The results show that the planning and construction of water ecological infrastructure play a positive role in the process of urbanization, improve the urban green coverage and improve the urban ecological environment. Complicated factors in urban areas have been reported to impact the density, biomass, and diversity of earthworm fauna. Urban parks provide essential habitats for earthworm fauna. However, how earthworm fauna are impacted by park traits, such as construction age, distance to city center, visitor volumes, sizes of greenspaces/parks, and attractiveness, etc., still remains unknown. These traits are well characterized by the impacts of urbanization intensity and administration quality of parks in megacities. Therefore, 16 parks with gradients of construction ages and geographical locations in Beijing city were selected for investigation. Furthermore, an earthworm synthetic and simple index (ESI) for characterizing earthworm community has been developed to compensate for the lack of robustness by using single ecological indexes. The results showed that earthworm population density (38.6 ind/m2) and biomass (34.0 g/m2) in parks were comparable to those in other land use types in Beijing. Ecological groupings were dominated by disturbance-tolerant endogeic and deep soil-inhabiting anecic groups, and most of them were adults. The earthworm population was influenced by urbanization intensity, while the earthworm community composition, species biodiversity, and ESI were affected by administration quality of parks. The soil moisture and microbial biomass carbon were the key factors in shaping earthworm assemblages. ESI could be employed as an effective indicator in depicting character of earthworm fauna. This study highlighted the impacts of park traits on earthworms in urban parks. The variation in park traits that influence earthworm fauna was probably attributed to soil properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution and plumage phenotypes of the feral pigeon, Columba livia forma urbana (Gmelin, 1789), in Slovakia. Censuses carried out in the built-up areas of 16 towns and cities from November to February (2012–2018) counted and evaluated 3,123 individual birds. The most frequent were melanic colored birds (checker, T-pattern and spread phenotypes), which predominated in the population (51.6%, n = 1,613), followed by paler ones (42.1%, n = 1,316) and other types (6.2%, n = 194). A statistically significant difference was confirmed among the melanic and paler plumage phenotypes (χ2 = 81.49, df = 15, p < 0.0001). Correlation confirmed the different importance of city area and human density on the maintenance of dark and/or pale pigeons living in cities.

In this study topsoil samples were collected from 57 sites of Dongxihu District which is a typical Chinese urban–rural combination area, to analyze the causes and effects of 6 heavy elements. (Ni, Pb, As, Cu, Cd, and Hg) Pollution of Enrichment factor, multivariate statistics, geostatistics were adopted to study the spatial pollution pattern and to identify the priority pollutants and regions of concern and sources of studied metals. Most importantly, the study area was creatively divided into central urban, semi-urbanized, and rural areas in accordance with the characteristics of urban development and land use. The results show that the pollution degree of potential ecological risk assessment is Hg>Ni>Cu>As>Cd>Pb, and semi-urban regions> city center> rural areas. Results based on the proposed integrated source identification method indicated that As was probably sourced from agricultural sources (33.99%), Pb was associated with atmospheric deposition (50.11%), Cu was related to industrial source 1 (45.97%), Cd was mainly derived from industrial source 2 (42.97%) and Hg come mainly from industrial source 3 (56.22%). The pollution in semi-urban areas in urbanization need more attention.

The development of human civilization, in its historical context, has a number of characteristics regardless of the period, among which, a special place should be given to the need of humanity for grouping and unification in a certain territory. Over time, forms of association of people have changed, however, one of the prerequisites for the emergence of cities or other settlements is the economic, and social development of the area. On the other hand, the appearance of people and their synergy, as well as the use of human resources potential in a particular territory, determine its socio-economic development, and the development in other areas. The problems of urbanization of territories, the search of mechanisms of public administration for ensuring the rights, freedom, legitimate interests of people in this territory, as well as the research of vectors of formation and implementation of public policy of sustainable development, in the context of urbanization, are important tasks that are not only faced by domestic state authorities and politicians, but are also in the focus of the functioning of public authorities of foreign countries, experts, and international organizations. The basis of the development of theoretical and methodological principles of public administration is the use of unified approaches to the definition of concepts and categories, and taking into account the complexity of urbanization as a phenomenon and its manifestation in various spheres of life, the approaches of domestic and foreign scientists to the interpretation of the category of «urbanization» are studied and generalized. The authors’ interpretation of the concept of «urbanization» from the standpoint of regional development goals is proposed. It is established that urbanization is a complex global process that influences the socio-economic development of regions, and its characteristic features are defined. The stages of development of urbanization are identified and their characteristics are carried out. The state of urbanization in Ukraine is researched and it is found out that, currently, most regions are underdeveloped and urbanization of the territories of Ukraine is irregular, so the use of public administration and public management tools is an important task that is actualized by the need to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

Lagos is perhaps the most economically, socially and culturally crucial coastal city in Nigeria. The pressures of expansion and overpopulation have resulted in many ecological crises, one of which is flooding. Nigerian poets have poetised incidents of flooding in Lagos. These poems are concerned with the biophysical space of Lagos as a city as well as the species lives, including human lives, that get flooded away in the annual ritual of rising water. In this article, I read a selection of these poems in a theoretical context drawn from insights in postcolonial ecocriticism and urban political ecology. While my analysis will concentrate on the ecopolitical force of the poems, I will also examine the aestheticization of flooding and the use of the flood as a poetic trope – a metaphor that disables humans' sense of complacency in human-centred urban systems and enables our sense of openness to recognize the being of waters. I conclude by pointing out that in postcolonial societies, the representation of urban ecological problems in literature is one way of indicting humans for the ecological fate both humans and non-humans now face. The development of urbanisation contributes to the development of tertiary industries and population development. Product marketing, land resource marketing and labour marketing play an important role in promoting urban development. The rapid development of urbanisation has caused considerable damage to the aquaecological environment, which has created major obstacles to the healthy and sustainable development of cities. This paper explains the current state of urban water ecology, analyses existing problems of water ecology in the process of urbanisation and advocates rational management measures. As urbanisation has progressed, the population of cities has increased, leading to a high level of water pollution and a lack of water resources, leading to a sharp deterioration of the aquatic environment and a sharp decline in use. Therefore, on the basis of the problems encountered in water ecology management in the current urbanisation process, it is necessary to apply the oxygen treatment technology to the water environment in order to sensitise people to the aquatic ecological environment, to repair damaged aquatic ecology, develop underwater ecosystems and improve the water quality of urban environments. Financial support is the basic support for the development of the ecological environment, and urbanization is the only way to ensure rapid economic development and modernization. In this paper, we conducted a systematic study on the coordinated development of regional ecological environment and financial support under the process of urbanization, and constructed a corresponding quantitative evaluation index system. According to the relevant data of the standardization evaluation index, the entropy method is used to calculate the evaluation index weight, and then we construct a coupling and coordination evaluation model. In addition, based on the results of the internal coordination of the system, the coupling between subsystems, and the overall coordination, the degree of coupling and coordination between the regional ecological environment and financial support under the urbanization process is judged. Finally, taking a province in China as the research area, a coupled and coordinated empirical study was conducted based on the relevant data of the area from 2005 to 2019. The results show that the overall coordination degree of the study area shows a gradual improvement trend, which can be roughly divided into four main stages: a rapid rise period, a slow rise period, a small fall period and a stable period. During 2005-2008, the number of sub-regions with financial support synchronized with the ecological environment increased from 3 to 7. From this analysis, it is known that the main factor leading to the low degree of early coupling and coordination of the research area is that financial support lags behind the development of the ecological environment. • The study area is typical, and has instructive and significant. • Compared with RSEI, the useful data of IRSEI for analysis increased by 3.26%. • We use GDP sub-industry spatialization model to represent the urbanization process. • Our study is important to know how urbanization affects the environment. As the fourth pole of China's economic growth, the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration plays a significant role in reinforcing the ecological barrier in the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, and is crucial for ecological and environmental protection strategies. In this paper, Google Earth Engine (GEE) and the MODIS images from 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015, and 2022 were utilized to construct the Improved Remote Sensing Ecological Index (IRSEI) to characterize the ecological quality more accurately than RSEI. Additionally, combined with nighttime light remote sensing data, land use data and socio-economic data, the GDP sub-industry spatialization model was utilized to analyze the urbanization process in depth. To dynamically monitor and evaluate the interaction between urbanization and ecological environment quality, a coupling coordination model incorporating the above methods was developed. The results show that (1) The effective information of the IRSEI in ecological quality analysis increased by 3.26% compared to RSEI, and the correlation with each ecological index was higher; (2) The ecological environment quality of the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration peaked in 2005 and has been declining since then, with the rate of decline gradually slowing down from 2005 to 2022; (3) The GDP sub-industry spatialization model is more suitable for characterizing the scattered villages, and can effectively exhibit the urbanization process. From 2000 to 2022, urbanization was rapidly developed, and the level of core cities such as Chengdu and Chongqing far exceeded those of neighboring cities; (4) The coupling coordination level between IRSEI and GDP spatialization model generally increased, indicating ongoing improvements in the synergy between ecological environment and urbanization in the Chengdu-Chongqing urban agglomeration. This study developed a method for quickly monitoring and assessing the relationship between ecological environment quality and urbanization by using IRSEI and GDP sub-industry spatialization model, and provides scientific analytical methods and data support for monitoring and governing the ecological environment in emerging urban agglomerations. The purpose will be to address the expansive south global metrolpolis growth, using as study case the Monterrey's metropolitan zone, with an evolutionary approach proposed by Henry Lefebvre where the proposed therm "societies complete urbanization" (Lefebvre, H.:1980:1), explored from a deductive analysis that goes from the general, with the exogenous variable inculcated with the globalization one, to involve from there, the particularities that have been developed from the urbanization process of the metropolitan area of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. In that way, it's shown the way the evolutionary urbanization process of the Monterrey's metropolitan area has modified the peripheral boundaries influenced by the exogenous variables such as the globalization and the development grade, and the endogenous linked to the: economic, political, territorial and socio-demographic aspects. For this, an exploration about how the urban dynamic and the way in which the economic globalization process inserted in Mexico as a country and in the metropolitan area of Monterrey is done, to finally conclude, with an exploration of the urbanization process from 1940 to 2019 in Monterrey and with a proposal where the three large metropolitan dimensions: the spatial, the institutional and the citizen, the ones that are feasible to make compatible. / El propósito sería abordar el asunto del crecimiento expansivo de las metrópolis del sur global, planteando, como caso de estudio, la zona metropolitana de Monterrey desde el enfoque evolucionista planteado por Henry Lefebvre, donde se plantea la “urbanización completa de la sociedad” (Lefebvre, H.:1980:1); explorando a partir de un análisis deductivo que va desde lo general, con la variable exógena vinculada globalización, para involucrar desde ahí, las particularidades que se han dado sobre el proceso de urbanización de la zona metropolitana de Monterrey, Nuevo León, México. En ese sentido, se muestra la forma en que el proceso evolutivo de urbanización de Monterrey, ha modificado sus linderos periféricos influido por variables de corte exógeno como la globalización y el grado de desarrollo del lugar y, endógenas vinculado a lo: económico, político, territorial y socio-demográfico. Para esto, se hace una exploración de la dinámica urbana y de la manera en que los procesos de globalización de la economía fueron insertándose en México como país y en la zona metropolitana de Monterrey; para finalmente concluir, con una exploración del proceso de urbanización 1940- 2019 en Monterrey y una propuesta donde se involucra a las tres grandes dimensiones metropolitanas: lo espacial, lo institucional y lo ciudadano; las cuales, desde la óptica de esta investigación, son factibles de compatibilizar.

The extreme precipitation events caused by climate change and the rapid development of urbanization have brought hidden flood risks to the cities. This paper comprehensively considered two major factors of vulnerability of urban flood-bearing and disaster prevention and mitigation (DPAM) capacity and built a comprehensive evaluation index system for urban flood-bearing risks. Secondly, a combined model consisted of composite fuzzy matter-element and entropy weight model was constructed to calculate the comprehensive risk indicator. Finally, the Zhengzhou City was taken as an example, the comprehensive indices of urban flood-bearing risk from 2006 to 2015 were evaluated. The results showed that the comprehensive risk of Zhengzhou City was generally on a slow upward trend, from II level (moderate-risk) in 2006 to III level (secondary high-risk) in 2015, which was mainly due to the mismatch between the rapid development of urbanization and the slow improvement of DPAM capabilities. This article deals with the difficult regulation of the Brazilian urbanization process throughout the twentieth century and the challenges that emerge in the 21st century. It begins with a description of the urbanization process in Brazil, aiming to associate the transformation of a rural society into an urban-industrial base. Then we pointed out the advance in urban legislation introduced in the post-constitutional period, marked by an increase in social rights in the country. And despite this advance, the peripheral urbanization, characteristic of the Brazilian urbanization process, persisted, which allows us to recognize the failure of the normative advance of urban policies to be effective in favor of a social and inclusive urbanization of the poor population. • Extended urban travel time significantly promotes population outflow. • The individual tolerance differences in urban travel time extension are studied. • The city's tolerance differences in urban travel time extension are studied. • The concept of "transportation accessibility wage bargaining" is proposed. The rapid growth of urban transportation has led to increased pressure on transportation infrastructure in many urban areas. In this paper, we examine the relationship between urban travel time and decision-making on the spatial mobility of the labor force to optimize the labor space distribution pattern. Using Gaode map traffic congestion delay data, China Migrants Dynamic Survey (CMDS) data, and a conditional logit model, we conduct the first study to examine the relationship between travel time and residential location choice in 100 major cities in China, specifically from the perspective of traffic congestion. Our research finds that extended urban travel time significantly promotes population outflow, particularly among individuals with light family burdens, low job loyalty, and more choices. The population outflow effect formed by the extension of travel time shows the law of decreasing in line with the size of cities, with medium-sized cities experiencing the most serious inhibition effect. We also propose the concept of transportation accessibility wage bargaining and estimate the monetary compensation value to be ¥22.50 ($3.33) per day. This finding provides a quantitative reference for the design of a corresponding compensation mechanism to improve residents' willingness to stay in cities. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Spatial inequalities in living conditions have traditionally been attributed to geographical location, the opposition between urban and rural settings or the size of settlements. Accordingly, the geographical literature has used these oppositions to explain not only differences in access to education, work and services but also diversity of lifestyles, beliefs and even political attitudes. In recent decades, however, urban areas have extended their scope, urbanization has become more dispersed, territories have become more interdependent and spatial hierarchies have tended to weaken. At the same time, social inequalities have become more marked, as manifested spatially by residential segregation. This article puts forward the thesis that residential segregation constitutes a considerably better explanatory factor currently for the elucidation of social inequalities and differences in living conditions in regional spaces than geographical location, the urban/rural divide or the size of settlements. A set of key indicators in the population of residents in Catalonia (level of education, socio-economic position, risk of poverty, self-perceived health and life satisfaction) are therefore analyzed from various spatial perspectives to explore this argument and evaluate each indicator’s explanatory potential. The main results seem to confirm the hypothesis that the most striking spatial inequalities are associated with residential segregation.

As the capital city of China, Beijing has experienced unprecedented economic and population growth and dramatic impervious surface changes during the last few decades. An application of the classification method combining the spectral and textural features based on Random Forest was conducted to monitor the spatial and temporal changes of Beijing’s impervious surfaces. This classification strategy achieved excellent performance in the impervious surface extraction in complex urban areas, as the Kappa coefficient reached 0.850. Based on this strategy, the impervious surfaces inside Beijing’s sixth ring road in 1997, 2002, 2007, 2013, and 2017 were extracted. As the development of Beijing has a special regional feature, the changes of impervious surfaces within the sixth ring road were assessed. The findings are as follows: (1) the textural features can significantly improve the classification accuracy of land cover in urban areas, especially for the impervious surface with high albedo. (2) Impervious surfaces within the sixth ring road expanded dramatically from 1997 to 2017, had three expanding periods: 1997–2002, 2002–2007, and 2013–2017, and only shrank in 2007–2013. There are different possible major driving factors for each period. (3) The region between the fifth and sixth ring roads in Beijing underwent the most significant changes in the two decades. (4) The inner three regions are relatively highly urbanized areas compared to the outer two regions. Urbanization processes in the interior regions tend to be completed compared to the exterior regions.

• Urbanization was divided into three different stages according to change in urban land. • Changes in wetland and ESs in different urbanization stages were detected. • Urbanization and wetland change had linear or nonlinear effects on variations in ESs. • Different ESs showed varied responses to urbanization and wetland change. • Wetland restoration has the potential to eliminate the negative effects of urbanization. Urbanization has had a profound impact on wetlands, and wetland conservation and restoration have attracted much attention. However, the detailed impacts of different urbanization and wetland changing processes on ecosystem services (ESs) are not well understood. Based on long-time series of remote sensing data (1990–2020), flood mitigation (FM), water purification (WP), carbon sequestration (CS), and biodiversity conservation (BC) were quantified in the Hang-Jia-Hu (HJH) region, China. According to the changing trend of urban land, the study period was divided into three urbanization stages: slow urbanization (1990–1998), rapid urbanization (1998–2013), and moderate urbanization (2013–2020). Regression analysis was used to explore the quantitative relationship between urbanization/wetland changes and ESs. The results showed that the urban land expansion rates in the slow urbanization, rapid urbanization, and moderate urbanization stages were 46.51 km2/yr, 100.62 km2/yr, and 70.87 km2/yr, respectively, and the corresponding wetland changing rates were 5.14 km2/yr, 19.54 km2/yr and −20.88 km2/yr, respectively. FM decreased in the slow and moderate urbanization stages and increased in the rapid urbanization stage, and WP increased in the slow and rapid urbanization stages and decreased in the moderate urbanization stage. Urbanization led to a decrease in FM, CS, and BC. Wetland restoration improved these ESs, while wetland loss caused a decline in multiple ESs in the slow and rapid urbanization stages. Wetland restoration partially offsets the negative effects of urbanization and wetland loss on ESs in the rapid urbanization stage. Urbanization and wetland changes have linear and nonlinear effects on ESs in different urbanization stages. Wetland restoration is an effective way to improve ESs in urbanization regions.
