Terrorism based on Islamic values has attracted global attention. Faith-based violence occurring around the world is illustrated by analyzing Christian militia groups from Tripura, North Uganda and Ambon.

Events in Uganda and Sierra Leone both of which experienced civil wars disrupted policing systems. War resulted in the creation of a new order of policing such as Uganda's local security committees and Sierra Leone's Peace Monitors and youth security.

A study of the civil war in central Uganda between guerillas of the National Resistance Army and the government of Milton Obote between 1981 and 1986, with special focus on the wartime experience of guerilla fighters including men, women and children, is presented. Result shows that the method of oral history provides important points of departure for a social history of this war, thus allowing one to differentiate and correct the current understanding of it in important ways.

Government's attitude towards the nineteen year old complex War between the rebels of the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) and the Uganda Peoples Defense Force (UPDF) is quiet ambiguous, funded by the Unites states for defense and international, seems to favor some people. The real war there is, to survive, with alarming emergence of suicide, high alcoholism, growing AIDS rate, aid supplies not reaching the needy, and children in particular exposed to all the uncertainties seem to have no future.

A discussion on the efficacy of the work of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the brutal war in Northern Uganda terrorized by the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) is presented. If local injustice is the price to be paid for the kind of international justice resulting from ICC's prosecution as in Uganda, than the court must be abandoned to build a truly global rule of law, where international law is guided by those it is claiming to serve, and by their views of what is just or prudent.

The military's role in a country's transition toward democracy is examined in the context of the Ugandan experience. Factors which gave rise to authoritarian regimes are identified, such as the deep ethnic divisions within the country, an uneducated electorate and a political ruling class that has a low regard for democratic processes. Current efforts to neutralize the military as a political force are also described.

The recent peace deals between Kenya and Uganda may encourage more attention on Karamoja, a neglected ungoverned land in eastern Uganda.

The article examines the success of post-conflict stability in countries like Liberia, Uganda and Rwanda to analyze how a nation can move from civil conflict to a post-conflict government.
