Purpose: This study aims to examine the factors affecting skin incision lengths in caesarean section. Materials and Methods: We enrolled 201 pregnant women who delivered by caesarean section. Skin incision lengths in caesarean section were measured with a ruler on the first postoperative day. We categorized the patients into two groups, where group 1 had their caesarean sections performed by senior residents and group 2 by specialists. Demographic patient data, estimated fetal weights, and skin incision lengths were calculated. Results: Patients age was 28.7+/-4.7 years, gravidity was 2.2+/-1.0, parity was 1.0+/-0.7, body mass index (BMI) was 25.2+/-4.3, and estimated fetal weight was 3.315+/-425 g. Skin incision lengths were 156.9+/-14, 159.5+/-13.1, and 154.5+/-14.8 mm for all surgeons, only senior residents and only specialists, respectively. Skin incision length was correlated with fetal weight, maternal BMI, gravidity, and parity. In additions, skin incisions made by specialists were smaller skin than those made by residents. Conclusion: Surgical experience is not the only factor affecting the skin incisions in caesarean section; fetal weight, maternal BMI, gravidity, and parity also affect skin incision length. Subclinical hypothyroidism (SH) is a frequently seen clinical disorder, which needs to be managed strictly in the pregnant population. SH is closely related with newborn complications and also suggested to be risk factor for cardiovascular events. Mean platelet volume (MPV), a determinant of platelet function, is a newly emerging risk marker for cardiovascular events. The aim of this study was to evaluate how MPV values and other hematological parameters are influenced in pregnants with subclinical hypothyroidism. A total of 70 subclinical hypothyroidic pregnants and 40 euthyroid pregnant controls were enrolled in our study. Age, body mass index (BMI), erythrocyte and platelet parameters were all evaluated. Erytocyte parameters and thrombocyte parameters, including MPV, were not statistically significantly different between pregnants with SH and healthy pregnants (p>0.05). Angiomyofibroblastoma (AMFB) is a rare seen mesenchymal tumor that is categorized as a genital stromal tumor. It is commonly seen in the middle-aged women usually affecting the labia majora and rarely the vagina. A variant called AMFB-like tumors are also rarely seen in male patients. AMFB with its clinical presentation and location can be wrongly diagnosed as an aggressive angiomyxomas, bartholin cyst or lower genital tract lipomas. In the patients who are applying because of the vulvar mass, AMFB should not be forgotten for the pre-diagnosis. The treatment is generally simple surgical excision.In this case, AMFB was reported with a wrongly pre-diagnosis as a bartholin cyst to which a medical treatment had been given. Labial adhesion is a disease which occurs after complete or partial fusion of labium majors and / or minors. It usually originates at the posterior fourchette and sometimes progresses towards urethral opening and clitoris. Incidence of labial adhesion is most frequent in prepubescent girls with a peak incidence at the age of 13 and ndash; 23 months. The factors that cause labial adhesion remain unknown. Vaginal irritation or inflammation process with underlying hypoestrogenism can cause this disease.We present a case who developed labial adhesion due to ovarian failure after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Introduction: In gynaecologic practice, LigaSure PreciseTM is generally used in endoscopic and open surgeries, such as hysterectomy, adnexectomy, and cancer surgery. However, there is no case report or main research article where LigaSure PreciseTM has been used for myomectomy. We want to compare a technique using a vessel sealing instrument with a conventional technique in abdominal myomectomy. Materials and Methods: Fifty-five women who underwent abdominal myomectomy were divided two groups: (1) a vessel sealing instrument-assisted technique (24 patients); and (2) a conventional technique (31 patients) between January 2011 and December 2014 at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, Gulhane Military Medical Academy, Ankara, Turkey. The data for the operation times, the occurrence of perioperative complications, the hospitalization times, and changes in haemaglobin and haematocrit levels for the two techniques were collected and compared. Results: The mean operation time was 48 minutes for the vessel sealing instrument-assisted technique and 54 minutes for the conventional technique. No statistically significant differences were determined for haemoglobin and haematocrit changes, hospital stay and perioperative complications. Conclusion: We did not find any difference in the occurrence of complications, changes in haemoglobin or haematocrit levels, or hospital stay. The vessel sealing instrument-assisted technique is feasible and effective in reducing operation times.

Introduction: Urinary incontinence negatively affects the quality of life. Various methods are used in the treatment of stress incontinence. Burch colposuspension (BC) is the classical treatment of urinary incontinence. Aim: To compare the long-term satisfaction in patients receiving BC with or without concomitant total abdominal hysterectomy. Materials and Methods: One hundred and twenty patients with stress incontinence underwent burch colposuspension with or without concomitant total abdominal hysterectomy. Ninety-three (77.5%) patients were interviewed by telephone. Of these, 91(75, 8%) patients agreed to participate in the study. The patients were divided into two groups according to the type of the surgical procedure. Group 1(N=48, 52.7%) had received burch colposuspension with concomitant total abdominal hysterectomy. Group 2 (N=43, 47.3%) had received burch colposuspension without concomitant total abdominal hysterectomy. Introduction: Wood’s light lamp is a device that emits ultraviolet (UV) light and is a useful diagnostic tool for dermatologic disorders. The change in the thickness of vaginal mucosa, in vaginal atrophy, causes a change in its colour under Wood’s light. We wanted to assess the feasibility of Wood’s light (WL) as a diagnostic tool for vaginal atrophy. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology from 1 March 2013 to 1 September 2014. We evaluated 45 healthy postmenopausal women with atrophic vaginitis (study group) and 45 healthy, reproductive-aged women as a control group. All patients underwent WL and routine gynaecological examinations for this study. Results: Ninety patients were selected for this study: 45 postmenopausal women suffering atrophic vaginitis symptoms like vaginal dryness, dyspareunia, vulvar pruritus, and signs like pale, smooth, dry, fragile vaginal epithelium, areas of petechiae, and rash, and 45 healthy reproductive-aged women without vaginal atrophy. Thirty-six of the postmenopausal women’s vaginal mucosa appeared pale royal green under WL indicative of vaginal atrophy. Thirty-nine of reproductive-aged women’s (n: 45) vaginal mucosa were not visualized as pale royal green fluorescent images under the WL. Conclusion: Using Wood’s light to diagnose vaginal atrophy is a new use for the old device and may be a reliable, and cheap tool for diagnosing vaginal atrophy. Diagnostic accuracy and cost-effectiveness of Wood’s light will be better optimized in further trials.

Bu niteliğiyle yönetim; belirli bir amaç doğrultusunda koordine olarak iş yapma biçimlerinin gerçekleştirilmesinde başvurulan çeşitli yöntemler ortaya koymaya başlamıştır. Demokrasi, bürokrasi ve teknokrasi gibi farklı biçimlerde hayata geçirilen yönetimsel düzenlemeler, uygulama alanı buldukları erken dönem topluluklardan, günümüz çağdaş toplumlarına gelinceye kadar birçok gelişme evresini geride bırakmıştır. Bu makalede, özellikle bürokrasi ve teknokrasi perspektifinden hareketle, dünya çapındaki salgın hastalıklarla mücadelede milat sayılabilecek korona virüs (COVID-19) tehdidi sonrasında yeni bir yönetimsel yapılanma biçimi adayı olarak düşünülebilecek “sıhhatokratik” yönetim anlayışına ilişkin keşifsel değerlendirmelerde bulunmak amaçlanmaktadır. Makalede, temel kavram olan sıhatokrasinin yanı sıra, yürütülen tartışmalara katkı sağlayabileceği öngörülen sıhhatopya kavramı da ele alınmaktadır. Ayrıca sıhhatokrasi kavramına kaynaklık eden yönlere sahip bulunan örgütsel ekoloji ve kaynak bağımlılığı teorileri de tartışmaya konu edilmektedir. Makalenin teorik zeminine kaynaklık eden kavram ve kuramların, sıhhatokratik yönetim anlayışı bağlamında değerlendirilmesinin, salt kuramsal anlatımları aşan ve geleceğe dönük uygulamaları öngörmeye yönelik anlamlı katkılar sağlayabileceği düşünülmektedir. Hâlihazır gelişmeler ve gerçekliklere dair çözümlemelerde bulunulan makalede, yönetsel yaklaşımların muhtemel gelecek yönelimlerine de değinilmektedir.

Bu makalede, Avusturyalı psikiyatr Viktor Frankl’ın sanatsal yönelişlere ilişkin bakış açısı üzerinde durulmuştur. Makalede, Frankl’ın genel anlamda sanat, özel anlamda ise müzik alanına ilişkin izah, yorum ve değerlendirmelerine yer verilmiştir. Müzik sanatının bileşenleri arasında yer alan ve müziğin söylemsel yönünü teşkil eden şarkı sözü içeriklerinin, psikolojik boyutu incelenerek, Frankl’ın bakış açısı biraz daha özele indirgenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bu kapsamda, Barış Manço’nun şarkı sözleri, Frankl’ın birincil kaynak eserleri kapsamında incelemeye konu edilmiştir. Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden içerik incelemesi tekniğinin benimsendiği çalışmada, Frankl’ın özgün bakış açısı ekseninde değerlendirmeler yapılmıştır. Makalenin sonucunda, sanatsal çalışmaları, bilimsel çalışmalardan ayrı kılan dört temel bileşenin varlığını ileri süren Frankl’ın bu görüşünün, Manço’nun seslendirmiş olduğu şarkılar kapsamında anlamlı bir şekilde desteklenmekte olduğu belirlenmiştir. Keşifsel bir çalışma olarak bu makale, benzer bir anlayış çerçevesinde yürütülecek olan gelecek çalışmalar için katkılar sunabilecek tartışma ve değerlendirmeleri okuyucunun dikkatine sunmuştur.

Bu makalede, Ukrayna asıllı Rus roman, hikâye ve oyun yazarı Nikolay Vasiliyeviç Gogol’un eserlerindeki tahakküm unsurları ele alınmıştır. Gogol’un kaleme aldığı bütün eserleri kapsamında yürütülen bu çalışmada, nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden içerik incelemesi tekniği benimsenmiştir. Makalede, tahakküme konu olan hususlar, asimetrik güç ilişkilerinin bir uzantısı olarak oraya çıkan ilişkiler bağlamında ele alınmıştır. Çalışma kapsamında yapılan incelemelerde, Gogol’un eserlerinde ön plana çıkan tahakküm unsurlarının kişisel servet, mevki/makam, soyluluk gibi konular ekseninde belirginleşmekte olduğu belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca aile içi ilişkilere yansıyan tahakküm unsurunun da söz konusu olduğu ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, bu makalede tahakküm unsurlarının olumsuz yönü üzerinde durulduğu ifade edilerek, belirli koşullar ya da örgütsel yapılanmaların bir gereği olarak tahakküm unsurlarına ihtiyaç duyulabileceği durum ve şartlar geri planda tutulmuştur. Söz konusu ihtiyacın ön plana çıkarıldığı ve bu çalışmanın bakış açısına tersinden yaklaşan ilave çalışmalara duyulan gereksinimin ise hâlihazırda devam etmekte olduğu konusu vurgulanmıştır.

The purpose of this study is to explain the recreation activities that have become increasingly prevalent in recent years. For this purpose, the focus is on the basic research question that can be expressed as "Is it possible to classify recreational activities within the context of consumer products?” This question has been tried to give answers on the classification of consumer products, adequacy of recreational activities and adequacy of explanations. The search for the answer was carried out through a theoretical discussion method conducted through literature review. Although classification of consumer goods is widely used in scientific fields such as business and marketing, the classification is not sufficiently recognized in the field of sports science and therefore is not used. Classification of consumer products, which gives the opportunity to explain and categorize every kind of consumer product, depending on the qualities it has, makes it possible to take recreational activities in the same sense. As a result of the study carried out under the article, classification of consumer goods; to allow recreational activities to be described within their limitations, and the underlying question of this work is the result of a series of concordant explanations between the field of business science and the field of sports science.

Bu makalede, günümüz futbol kulübü yöneticilerinin finansal konularla ilgili olan karar verme süreçlerine ilişkin değerlendirmelerde bulunmak amaçlanmıştır. Makalede, günümüz futbol kulübü yöneticilerinin, yüzyıllar önce yaşamış olan Pisagorcu topluluk bireyleri ile benzer bir sembolik davranış biçimi içinde bulundukları teorik öngörüsünden yola çıkılmıştır. Sayılara sembolik anlamlar yükleyen Pisagorcular, bütün yaşamsal faaliyetlerini bu sembolik anlamlar doğrultusunda yönlendirmişlerdir. Bu makale kapsamında yürütülen çalışmada, futbol kulübü yöneticilerinin, kulüplerin 10 ve 10’un katlarına karşılık gelen kuruluş yıldönümü gibi sembolik dönemlerinde, diğer zaman dilimlerine (yıllara) oranla finansal bakımından anlamlı farklılıklar (artışlar) kaydedecek ölçüde harcamalara yönelme eğiliminde oldukları belirlenmiştir. Felsefi bir zemine dayalı olan bu Pisagorcu anlayış, psikiyatr Frankl’ın perspektifi doğrultusunda yapılan ilave değerlendirmeler aracılığıyla, aynı zamanda psikolojik bir zemine de dayandırılmıştır. Sonuç olarak futbol kulübü yöneticilerinin, finansal anlamda sergilemiş oldukları belirli davranışların arka planında aslında Pisagorik davranış örüntüsünün yatmakta olduğu olgusu ortaya konulmuştur.

Amaç: Kronik yorgunluk sendromu (KYS) istirahat ile düzelmeyen ve en az altı aydan beri devam eden yorgunluk ile birlikte, ayrıca hafıza ve konsantrasyon problemleri, miyalji, artralji, başağrısı, uyku bozukluğu, tekrarlayan boğaz ağrısı ve hassas lenf nodları gibi bulgulardan en az dört tanesinin bulunmasıyla karakterize bir hastalıktır. Gebelik süreci ise çeşitli hormonal, metabolik ve anatomik değişiklikler paralelinde benzer yakınmaların görülebileceği fizyolojik bir süreçtir. Çalışmamızda, gebelerde karışabilen KYS semptomlarının sıklığını araştırdık. Materyal ve Metot: Bu çalışma kronik sistemik hastalığı olmayan 224 gebe ile gerçekleştirildi. Gebelere sosyodemografik özellikleri ve gebelik bilgileri ile KYS belirti ve bulgularını içeren anket formu uygulandı. Sonuçlar hastalık koruma ve kontrol merkezi (CDC) ve Bruce M.Carruthers ve ark. nın yayınladığı tanı ve tedavi kılavuzunda yer alan KYS tanı kriterleri ışığında değerlendirildi. Bulgular: CDC’ye göre 24 (%10,7) gebe, tanı ve tedavi kılavuzuna göre ise 8 gebe (%3,5) KYS olarak değerlendirildi. Gebelerde en sık görülen yakınmalar; %75 (n=168) ile egzersiz sonrası yorgunluk, %58,9 (n=132) ile aşırı uyuma veya az uyuma ve %53,6 (n=120) ile ışık, ses ve kokulara karşı hassasiyet olarak saptandı. Sonuç: KYS ile gebelik arasında pek çok belirti ve bulgunun ortak olarak bulunması gerçeği gebe takibi yapan hekimlerinin gebelere ait her yakınmayı dikkatli bir şekilde değerlendirmesini gerektirmektedir. Gebelik sürecinde ve fizyolojik olarak değerlendirilebilen bazı yakınmalar, aslında gebelik süreci ile tetiklenmiş bazı patolojilere işaret ediyor olabilir.

Amaç: Bu çalışmada, normotansif gebe (kontrol) grubu ile hafif preeklampsi (çalışma) gruplarında 24 saatlik idrardaki N-asetil- β-D-glukozaminidaz seviyelerinin karşılaştırılması ve hafif preeklampsi hastalarında renal tubüler hasarın saptanması amaçlandı. Gereç ve Yöntem: Bu çalışma, 13 hasta çalışma grubunda ve 15 hasta kontrol grubunda olmak üzere planlandı. 24 saatlik idrar çıkışları ve 24 saatlik idrarda protein, glomerüler filtrasyon hızı, sistolik ve diyastolik arter basınçları, serum kreatinin ve 24 saatlik idrarda NAG değerleri hesaplandı.Bulgular: Çalışma ve kontrol gruplarında, 24 idrar volume (mL), serum kreatinin (mg/dL) ve glomerüler filtrasyon hızında istatistiksel olarak fark saptanmamıştır. Gruplar arasında, 24 saatlik idrarda protein (U/l), sistolik ve diyastolik arter basınçları (mmHg) ve 24 ssatlik idrarda NAG değerleri istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulundu. NAG ve 24 saatlik idrarda protein değerleri arasında anlamlı korelasyon bulundu.Sonuç: Bu çalışmada; hem glomerüler, hem de renal tubüler hasarı gösteren NAG ile birlikte protein değerlendirilmesinin etkisi önemlidir, ve hafif preeklampsi hastalarında renal tubüler hasar oluşurken serum kreatinin seviyelerinde değişikliğe sebep olmadığını bulunmuştur.

Overin müsinöz tümörleri, seröz over tümörlerinden sonra en sık karşımızı çıkan epitelyal over tümörlerindendir. Gebelik esnasında over tümörleri ile nadir olarak karşılaşmaktayız. Olguların bir kısmı, rutin antenatal takipler sırasında ultrasonografi ve fizik muayene ile tanı alırken, diğer bir kısmı ise insidental olarak sezaryen sırasında karşımıza çıkmaktadır. Bu olguda, 30 yaşında nullipar hastada, sezaryen ile doğumu gerçekleştirildiği esnada insidental olarak tespit edilen over tümöründen söz edilmiştir.

Angimyofiblastomlar(AMFB), genital stromal tümörler içerisinde yer alan,nadir izlenen benign mezenkimal tümörlerdir. Genellikle orta-yaş bayanlarda görülüp, sıklıkla labium majörü daha az sıklıklada vajinayı etkileyebilmektedir. AMFB benzeri tümörler adı altında, nadiren erkekler de görülebilmektedir. Yerleşim yeri ve klinik prezentasyonu ile bartolin kistleri, alt genital tract lipomları veya nadiren de agresif anjiyomiksomalar ile karışabilmektedir. Vulvar kitle ile başvuran hastalarda, ön tanıda AMFB ler unutulmamalıdır. Tedavisi genellikle basit cerrahi eksizyondur.Bu olguda, bartolin kist yanlış ön tanısı ile medikal tedavi verilen AMFB olgusundan bahsedildi

Labial adezyon, labium major ve / veya minör lerin tamamen veya kısmi birleşmesi sonrası oluşan bir hastalıktır. Genellikle arka forşette gelişir ve bazen de üretra ağzına ve klitorise kadar uzanım gösterebilir. Labial adezyon daha çok puberte öncesi kız çocuklarında görülürken, 13-23 aylık yaş gurubunda pik yapar. Labial adezyona sebep olan faktörler bilinmemektedir. Hipoöstrojene bağlı gelişebilen vajinal irritasyon veya inflamasyon bu duruma sebep olabilecek hipotez olarak düşünülmektedir. Bu olguda hematopoetik kök hücre transplantasyonu sonrası gelişen ovaryan yetmezliğe bağlı gelişen labial adezyon sunuldu.

Torsion seen in ovary, fallopian tube or in both organs is one of the gynecologic emergency pathologies in patients suffering from acute lower abdominal pain, and it constitutes approximately 2.7% of gynecologic emergencies. Delays in diagnosis and treatment can cause ischemic damage, in that way can cause the risk of ovary, fallopian tube or both organs loss. Thus, it can result in fertility problems in people who are desiring future fertility. Although the etiology is not totally known, it has been thought that torsion risk has been increasing in benign cystic teratomas and ovarian tumors. It can be also seen in congenital situations such as vitellointestinal duct anomaly and people who have undergone pelvic surgery. In this article, a case for adnexal torsion developed in congenital omental fenestrum which is considered as a new factor for torsion etiology, was explained.

Cesarean scar dehicence has the incidence of 1.2% after base transverse incisions. Beside causing a situation increasing morbidity and mortility for baby and mother and needing acute intervention in antenatal or intrapartum period by causing uterine rupture, it is an important complication that can cause sudden bleeding, infection and even uterine fistules in postpartum period. In our case, we will mention about the successful management of cyst caused by menstrual blood that develops dehiscence of cesarean scar. A female patient with the age of 40 (Gravida:2, parity:2 (2 C/S) applied to our policlinic because of amenorrhoea. A cystic mass, probably originated from cesarean incision scar, with intense content, smooth borders and the dimensions of 66x24 mm was observed by the help of transvaginal ultrasonography. The evacuation of the cyst content had been decided by performing vacuum aspiration from cervical ostium. Transabdominal ultrasonography guided karman cannula was placed into the cyst from cervical ostium. The content of the cyst had been aspired by negative pressure. Most of the complications after cesarean can be diagnosed by easy ultrasonographic observations and physical examinations, some needs expensive radiologic observations such as magnetic resonance imaging, computerized tomography, while for some of them, second- look procedures can be necessary that increase mortality and morbidity of the patient. The most important thing is how to treat these complications. Some of them can be treated by conservative approaches; while some of them needs severe surgical operations even histerectomy. As in our case, the cyst caused by menstrual blood after causing dehiscence of cesarean scar, was vacuum aspirated easily and treated by conservative approach.

A female patient with the age of 33 having gravida: 3, parity: 2 and D&C: 1, applied to our clinics by pelvic mass that she had. It had been comprehended from the anamnesis of the patient that she applied to a gynecologist because of ongoing inguinal pain and abdominal distension for about 4 months. In the physical examination, a mass that can be palpated in suprapubic region was observed. In transvaginal ultrasonographic examination, a giant leiomyom was determined having the dimensions of 9.5cm x 8.5 cm that was located at fundal uterus with subserous component and enlarged the uterus. Pfannenstiel incision was performed. In intraoperative examination, a fundal subserous located parasitic leiomyoma with around 10 cm diameter, supplied by a vascular structure about 30 cm in length from omentum was diagnosed.It was diagnosed that omentum adhered to leiomyoma partially. Firstly, omentum with its vascular structure was excised. Partial omentectomy was performed. Then, leiomyoma was excised by performing dissection and operation was ended up. Parasitic myomas are indicated as rarely seen myomas in literature. It is crucial to maintain specific diagnosis, careful imaging and serious planning in preoperative preparations.Although parasitic leiomyomas are rarely seen cases, because of abnormal vascularization and adhesion to other organs, one should be careful in preoperative examinations and sufficient blood supply should be maintained in case of bleeding. Additionally, surgical information has to be had for surgical exploration and pelvic anatomy.

Burkitt’s lymphoma (BL) occurs commonly in children and young adults, whereas bilateral ovarian involvement is extremely rare. We report a patient with unusual symptoms for BL, mimicking an ovarian neoplasm. Here, our aim was also to point out that BL can spread into the genital tract. A 60-year-old woman presented with the complaint of abdominal pain for a few months. Abdominal distension and sensibility were observed upon physical examination of the patient, but no common “B” symptoms associated with lymphoma were noted. Our imaging studies revealed bilateral adnexal masses suggesting an ovarian tumour with positive laboratory findings. We performed an exploratory laparotomy and a total hysterectomy, bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and right hemicolectomy with appendectomy. The hemicolectomy process was needed to reduce the tumour burden and because of the risk of intestinal obstruction risk that could arise from the tumour mass in the ileocecal valve. Observation of a frozen specimen indicated BL, so the surgery was ended. Although BL involving the genital tract is a rare condition in patients who have pelvic masses, BL can be one of the diseases that should be considered for specific diagnosis.

The word plagiocephaly is occurred from Greek for “slanted” (plagio) and “head” (kephale). Plagiocephaly describes a planar or multiplanar cranial asymmetry which can be occurred in prenatal or postnatal period. In prenatal period, the most reason for associated plagiocephaly is intrauterine pressure (multiple birth infants (especially dizygotic twins), amount of amniotic, small pelvis and uterine tumors etc.). It has been demonstrated in recent studies that the location of the fetuses within uterus, importantly their position and orientation in the uterus and also the number of fetuses play crucial roles in the development of plagiocephaly during pregnancy. In this report, it was reported that in the case of the dizygotic twin- pregnancy due to the location of the babies in the uterus, they are prone to develop plagiocephaly.

A 26 year old Gravida1 Para 0 patient has admitted to our outpatient clinic with the complaints of missed menstrual period, inguinal pain and vaginal spotting for two days. The patient who had an endometrial thickness of 15 mm in her transvaginal ultrasound had no other pathological findings except for a minimal tenderness in deep abdominal palpation. Her β-hCG was reported as 556 IU/ml, therefore she was scheduled for serial β-hCG follow up. Since the follow up revealed first falling and then increasing levels of β-hCG, the possibility of a tubal abortion followed by reimplantation came into discussion. A diagnostic laparoscopy was planned. During laparoscopy, an ectopic pregnancy mass of 2–3 cm was seen to be implanted on the pouch of Douglas. Minimal bleeding was observed from the fimbrial end of the left tuba uterina. Ectopic pregnancy focus was extirpated by a laparoscopic forceps. Pathological examination supported the initial diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy. The patient was followed until the postoperative 6 th week, when the β-hCG level was reported to be

Objective: We aimed to detect whether maternal serum free β-hCG and PAPP-A levels and NT measurements vary between normal pregnancies and those that subsequently develop pre-eclampsia and to evaluate the role of these screening serum analytes in the prediction of pre-eclampsia., Methods: Using a case-control study design, we identified all women who had been screened by double test within 11+0 and 13+6 weeks of gestation and who had developed pre-eclampsia during the subsequent pregnancy course, over a 6-year period between January 2006 and December 2012 at two tertiary referral hospital. All women who had undergone a double test during that time, without a diagnosis of pre-eclampsia and who had not had any adverse obstetric outcomes, were also identified, and three women among them were randomly selected as controls for each case. Maternal and neonatal data were abstracted from the medical records and PAPP-A, β-hCG, NT and CRL MoM values were compared between the two groups., Results: Although β-hCG values show no statistically significant difference (p=0.882), PAPP-A levels were significantly reduced in the pre-eclampsia group compared to the control group (p<0.001). NT and CRL values showed no significant difference between the two groups (p=0.674 and p=0.558, respectively)., Conclusion: Measuring PAPP-A in the first trimester may be useful in the prediction of pre-eclampsia.
