In the history of music there are mystical figures or characters that through rituals and ceremonies full of sounds, songs and dance have been leading different human groups through different emotional and spiritual states. These figures are often called sorcerers or shamans, a term that refers to "the quality of diviner, mediator or healer", i.e., a chosen being; it defines those who invoke powers through the mind and body, which music regulates and merges. This definition presented by González R (2008) in his book "El mundo en el oído" evidences an alliance between the uncertain and music: the magical. These figures could it be present in the cities of the 21st century? Where would we place this character? During the 20th century, the presence of music, its technological development and reproducibility, and the appearance of multiple musical genres changed the way of approaching and enjoying it. Thus, it is how towards the decade of the 50's a figure began to become popular that was linking different musical samples through the radio, live performances, etc.; that were influencing through the sound to the listeners. In this way, the following essay addresses the figure of the DJ as the one who leads, connects and communicates different individualities under a common sound rituality that besides exalting emotions creates alternative spaces of connection and timeless catharsis, that is to say, a shamanic experience in the present. - Abstract
In addition, a review of the biography of photographer Miguel Trillo, the historic context and other concepts related to his work, such as urban tribes and a brief history of the fanzine in Spain, will be performed. A documentary analysis has been carried out following the guide of Salvador Benítez, Olivera Zaldua and Sánchez Vigil, proposing a formal analysis and a denotative and connotative analysis of content. In addition, the work is supported by a personal interview with the photographer. The most relevant conclusions corroborate the fundamental role of Miguel Trillo as a documentary photographer of the urban tribes in Madrid in the 80s of last century; but also the way his legacy has been taken by contemporary photographers such as Laura C. Vela or Davit Ruiz in their aesthetic aspects but especially in their documentary and conceptual strategy., Depto. de Biblioteconomía y Documentación, Fac. de Ciencias de la Información, TRUE, pub

- Abstract
The article proposes: to assess the influence of urban tribes on the social behavior and health of young Cubans who belong to them. An articulation is presented based on the criteria of authors, both from the social sciences and the medical sciences, with the search for the interrelation between the categories identity(ies) and youth(s), main urban tribes that exist in Cuba, their social behavior and the possible implications for the health of their members. The role of nurses and doctors in the prevention, detection, and accompaniment of young people is signified. During the youth stage, life projects play a leading role, however, the search and achievement of these goals does proceed in a linear or harmonious way.

- Abstract
This article raises the question on "new" models of church nowadays, which may be in conflict with "old" models and require a spirituality and religious practices that make sense to the youth who live in metropolises. By analyzing the Community Caverna de Adulão (Adulam Cave Community), in Belo Horizonte, and other communities and churches in Brazil, we observed the construction of the relation between culture and religion among young adepts of Rock and Roll music in headbangers urban tribes. This relational construction between culture and religion occurs because of the possibility of using cultural elements in religious practices in the post-modernity. This does not indicate a new model of church, but new readings and re-readings of young and cultural expressions and the sociality that Rock and Roll can provide. In the bibliographic analysis, the main theoretical-methodological reference was the book O tempo das tribos - o Declínio do Individualismo Nas Sociedades de Massa [The time of the Tribes - The Decline of Individualism in Mass Society] by Michel Maffesoli. The aim of the present study is to investigate how the consumption of geek products acts in the identity of individuals who see themselves as members of this urban tribe. Geeks are taken as committed members fascinated by topics related to fantasy and science fiction universes; if we take into account a micro-scale, they form an identity territory. Based on its theoretical approach, the goal of the current research lies on promoting a dialogue between studies that have adopted the consumer culture theory (CCT) and organizational identity research, by taking into consideration that urban tribes are a kind of organization. The research corpus comprised interviews with seventeen people who identify themselves as geeks; these interviews were analyzed based on thematic categorization. Based on then results, geek-products’ consumption starts at childhood and goes all the way to adulthood; this process is influenced by characters in the fantasy and fiction universes. The consumed products hold symbolic elements of fantasy and fiction, so that they end up representing the extension of this tribe’s members ‘self’; moreover, they are a way of building collective identities within an urban tribe, in this case, geeks. We have shown that organizational identity studies can lead to greater dialogue with CCT in order to better understand complexities added to identity and multiple affiliations, and links in the identity construction of people forming an organization.

Michel Maffesoli, born on November 14, 1944 in Graissessac, France, is a sociologist in love with Brazil and frequently comes to debates around issues that involve the current and the quotidian in a time that he understands as postmodern. A disciple of Gilbert Durand, he took the chair of Émile Durkheim at the Sorbonne (Université de Paris-Descartes) in 1981, where he remained until September 2014. He is currently an emeritus professor and an honorary member of the University Institute of Francead vitam. He considers himself a thinker of postmodernity or contemporaneity who seeks to highlight the fundamental changes (the root ofêtre ensemble), because for him the current crisis is not only economic, butsocietal. In this interview, the dialogue with Maffesoli took place based on four axes: 1) academic training; 2) understanding of the educational phenomenon in contemporary times; 3) research carried out; and 4) reflections on contemporary political aspects. The interview sought to present how the French thinker sees the changes that the internet has brought to the field of education and, in particular, to the teacher-student relationships. The dialogue also highlighted the authors who contributed most to their education, the relationship that Maffesoli established with the thought of Karl Marx, Max Weber, among others, and the understanding of the university environment.

Although the basically urban character of these associations is defended, it discusses to the relevance of the application of the concepts of "urban tribe" and "youth culture" in cultural scenes like the represented ones in societies that have undergone a fast transition to a modernity imposed by the transnational networks. In this sense, the objective is the refining of those conceptual tools offering a new perspective of which it considers the historical and social peculiarities of the construction of "young" the social category in other places. Finally, the text tries to vindicate the Anthropology like an empirical and non a priori discipline.

- Abstract
In recent years, groups bearing the label of urban tribes have been emerging in different Latin American cities. These subcultures present distinctive features and characteristics that distinguish them from the rest of the people that constitute the city's cultural landscape. Among those distinctive features is vocabulary, as the most adaptable component of the linguistic system, which stands out because it is used as an ideal tool for the distinction between different urban groups. Vocabulary is very useful for urban tribes because it allows them to create and/or use the same lexical units to communicate with each other and, somehow, to set and establish a distance with those unrelated to their enviroment. Starting from this situation, it is estimated that vocabulary, as well as clothing, music and another accessories, is a factor and an important semiotic element in the construction of identity reflected in this series of voices. That is why this paper has the following objectives: 1) To register the vocabulary used by the Skater urban tribe and 2) to describe the vocabulary used by that urban tribe. The theoretical grounding of this work is based on the approaches of Chumaceiro and Álvarez (2004), Colmenares (1996), Ávila (1987), Tejera (1993), among others. The corpus is taken from surveys and interviews made to key informants; constrastive ethnographic and lexicographical methods are used for the recording and description of the obtained data. This article considers ways in which the language, aesthetics, and ideology of rock and roll music provide spiritual resources for the youth of an evangelical headbanger group, the Comunidade Caverna de Adulão (Cave Community of Adullam). Rock forms part of this urban tribe's contemporary and alternative spirituality, helping to provide a sense of belonging and shared emotions. We observed that at the beginning of the community rock was the main socializing element among the youngsters and that later other elements entered their place. The methodology consisted of a literature review, primarily sociologist Michel Maffesoli in dialogue with other authors. In the field research, we used the socioanthropological-ethnographic method that happened with participant observation and with the focus group technique. The primary thematic focus was socialization around rock music. FAMILIES ,RITES & ceremonies ,TELEVISION programs - Abstract
It was once the norm for people to get married in their early twenties, perhaps right after college or maybe during college. Once married, there was the need to start a family as soon as possible. However, nowadays, people appear to be substituting (at least for this period of time after college) the traditional family structure with a new one — the "urban tribe. " This paper takes a critical approach to examining portrayals of rituals in "urban tribes " in two television shows — Will & Grace and Friends in which we argue that the progressive elements of these shows counter the master narratives of traditional family values and that these counter stories act as resistance to the given context of family. - Abstract
This article reflects on the influence of the social network Facebook and membership in Floggers as urban tribe, in the teenager construction of the identity. The case study addresses the concern felt by parents of young adolescents aged between 13 until 16 years, related to the risk to their children to be linked to social networks and their influence generated on the identity, personality and adolescent behavior as a strategy of acceptance with a social group or community. The first section shows the general features of the problem; in second instance, it presents an analysis of the characteristics of adolescents and the identity crisis experienced by this population group; thirdly, it shows the risks that exposed a teenager to participate actively in social networks and identified as a member of a group or urban tribe and finally, it sets out recommendations for the solution of the problem as a conclusion of the case study. The purpose of this case study is to analyze the behavior of nowadays teenagers in the Social Network Facebook, their changes in their identities adopted as a strategy in order to be accepted as a part of the Urban Tribe called Floggers, and their effects on the parental relationships. This essay develops the idea that the imaginary is the main element in cultural identification processes that occur around pop songs genres. It is based on Gilbert Durand's concept of imaginary, the idea of urban tribes developed by Michel Maffesoli, and reflection about cultural identity by Stuart Hall. The conclusions show the role of the imagination in the processes of sharing symbolic elements and cultural identification among members of urban tribes that are formed around certain genres of media song. This process occurs both on fruition and on creation of the song. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
The idea of this work was to determine how much the Internet is influencing urban tribes in Guadalajara, México. Usually urban tribes develop their own esthetical codes related to what to wear and how to look, but as many brands, together with marketing, have been developing concepts of fashion, many urban tribes are now under the influence of the media. This paper explores how the Internet is also working on the development of esthetics and brand construction in urban tribes. A sample of 533 people was obtained and ANOVA was performed in order to obtain clues about the main objectives. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In Brazil, we witness the emergence of new religious alternatives almost daily, as well as a strong institutional fragmentation within the established Protestant churches. In this scenario, emerge autonomous churches with target specific audiences, offering symbolic products that match the needs of those audiences. For example, churches focused on "urban tribes" such as "Igreja Evangélica Bola de Neve" ("Snowball Church"), incorporated in 1999, on the Tatuapé neighborhood of São Paulo, SP, Brazil. This article presents an anthropological analysis of "Snowball church", seeking to understand the structure of worship, the profile of members, and the kind of communication that is used in there. The research methodology was field work, targeted readings about neopentecostalism in Brazil, and interviews with church members. It also raises the possibility of this church and others focused on "urban tribes" be interpreted as a fourth wave of pentecostalism in Paul Freston's wave theory, where a Theology of Autonomy prevails [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The objective of this study was to determine the socialization structure of a subculture or urban tribe, by measuring the structural indicators of its social network and identifying sub-groupings. Eleven members of the rock subculture were evaluated through the Arizona Social Support Interview Schedule (ASSIS). The data was processed using the social network analysis (SNA) with the software Ucinet, and networks graphs were created with NetDraw. It was possible to identify moderate levels of structural indicators in which groupings of large numbers of actors under the criterion of attraction by similarity was significant. Finally, there were few subgroups within the network, which indicates that the subculture is a social unit where integration is achieved by close ties among its members. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Discriminated or self-marginalized sectors of our society - such as transvestites, prostitutes and rockers, among others, have been able to create their own expressions of religion, satisfying their needs and giving their own meaning to their practices. In this context, an innovative religious alternative was created 12 years ago in Santiago, Chile. The Movement of the Scorned and Rejected has succeeded in building a common premise among its followers: "imposition" is not tolerance. ¿What motivations drive this movement? ¿What differentiates this group from a religious sect? ¿How do they differ from a formally instituted church? The impact of the globalizing phenomenon is not only recognizable on its economical and geopolitical aspects, being its influence on association degrees one of its main features regarding the social level: groups of young people turned into urban tribes, sects, antisystemic groups, etc., all of them under the postmodern paradigm of complete loss of certainty. Facing uncertainty and solitude, individualism ceased to be the only response. Spontaneous collectivism has become a new way of reaction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In the world of contemporary design, the individual genius of the creator is less important than his skill for harnessing the trends that are generated in the street. This paper analyzes the way in which designers create and one of the most important protagonists of creativity in the street: young urban tribes. In order to understand the link between both kinds of creator, it is not just cultural climates and atmospheres that are considered to be important. Beyond the fizzy metaphor, there is a suggestion that there is a pneuma (or spirit) that tribes help to create and which designers must know how to find their way through. The most important issues examined in this paper are how Aragonese designers navigate their way through this pneuma and how it is generated by the urban tribes of Zaragoza. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

On the basis of participant observation in the gay communities of San Francisco, Paris and Oslo, this article charts a pattern of gender inversion in the negotiation of identities and social relations that can be related to an international gay culture. The use of gender inversion in gay men's speech is seen as evidence of the discursive construction of specific generic identities whose capacity to carry meaning is dependent on conventional categories of gender. Based on the observation that we live in a society of groups that seek different and multiple affiliations, this thesis, based mainly on the studies of Sigmund and Anna Freud and Michel Maffesoli, had as general objective to investigate how the process of identification between members of urban tribes. And, its specific objectives were to identify the shared meanings and perceived difference of these members in relation to themselves, others and the group image; to point out the symbolic, material, ritual aspects and how the power relations that mark their identities are organized; and examine how the discourses enunciated in this urban tribe are incorporated into the daily reality of its members. The methodology used was qualitative, developed through semi-structured interviews, conducted between August and October of 2018, in the southern states, with 26 owners of HarleyDavidson motorcycles affiliated with the brand's official motorcycle group, the 88Harley-Davidson Owners Group, whose testimonies were submitted to content analysis. We conclude that the process of identification in the urban tribes occurs through the transformation of people through group illusion. Created through the experiences of group life, this illusion influences feelings as well as shared meanings of caring, friendship and trust, leading members to feel like special people, protects the group against future dismemberments and external groups, alleviates conflicts arising from different power relations, and involves members and their families in the same group fantasy, including in everyday life.

This research proposes a dialogue between the sociological concept of urban tribes proposed by Michel Maffesoli to characterize social life, especially in the metropolises, and the concept of strategizing, central in the studies of strategy as a social practice. Both the concept of urban tribes and the perspective of strategy as a social practice emerged from proposals for the study of postmodern socialism or after modernism. The purpose of this research is to analyze how strategizing is practiced in fluid forms of sociality: the urban tribes. The research question is: how can the study of strategy as a social practice be used in the application of the concept of strategy in fluid forms of sociality? Regarding the methodological procedures, the qualitative approach of the material collected in the field research, elements of ethnomethodology and the case study method were used. As for the field research procedures, we used the technique of in loco observation of the tribes and of tribe interactions in online social networks, with registration in the field notebook and interviews with tribesmen. The results are presented in four stages: the tribes are located temporally and spatially; a brief history of the urban tribes surveyed is presented; the strategizing practices of the five urban tribes are analyzed from the characteristics identified by Maffesoli (1997, 2014a, 2014b, 2016): ambience, identity, aesthetics, ethics, sociality, transfiguration of the politician and homo eroticus / homo festivus; and, a section with the contributions of strategizing practices in fluid forms of sociality to the concept of strategizing. The results show the transience of strategic practice. Strategizing practices in urban tribes contribute to the study of strategy as a practice by showing various emerging and ephemeral strategic manifestations, dispersion and teleological absence in the quest for existence of the tribe, the role of ethics and aesthetics in everyday interactions, representation transient and unstable nature of multiple roles and their relation to the horizontality of relationships, the focus on practitioners who build organizational groupings, the transfiguration of the political in the tribes' interactions with the social and environmental environment, the pursuit of play and its role in the generation of emotions and tensions. Thus, by approaching strategy research as a practice of postmodern analysis assumptions, the dissertation offers an alternative for overcoming functionalist rationality in traditional strategy studies. This text is an attempt to review some academic work on youth cultures carried out in Spain since the transition to democracy (although some earlier work related to the subject, stemming from the late Franco period, is also brought up). The nearly 200 contributions analyzed (books, papers, theses, unpublished reports and journal texts) were grouped into different academic areas such as criminology, sociology, psychology, communication or anthropology, and theoretical trends ranging from “edifying” ecclesiastic post-war literature to the Birmingham school, to post-subcultural studies. The works are classified into seven major periods marked by different youth styles which act as distorting mirrors of social and cultural changes that are taking place: the late Franco times (golfos and jipis), the transition to democracy (punkis and progres), the post-transition (pijos and makineros), the 1990s (okupas and pelaos), the beginning of century (fiesteros and alternativos), the Latin kings and ñetas (2005̶ 2010) and finally, in the present, the ninis and indignados. This study is part of a larger project commissioned by the Spanish Youth Institute (Injuve), under the title “Youth Cultures in Spain: Urban Tribes” (Feixa et al. 2004). It has been updated under the projects KISMIF (Fondação da Ciência e da Tecnologia, Portugal, PTDC/CS-SOC/118830/2010) and TRANSGANG (HORIZON-2020, European Research Council - Advanced Grant, H2020-ERCAdG-742705).

Speaking of minorities is complicated because from the very definition of minority, there is a lack of conceptual unity around the same term. In the field Minority Legal concept is linked to the State because it determines the dynamics of inferiority or subordination of these groups. Furthermore, the relatively large or small of a group does not affect its dominant position or put. The rights of minorities defined from ethno-cultural criteria, philosophical debate focuses on the collective rights.

Later, as stated, the concepts used to show those youth practices did not address a fascination effect but an effect of cultural and historical mediation that allowed a generational link, to conclude with hints on the performance of the culturalist perspective and its challenges., A perspectiva cultural ou o que é chamado de “virada cultural” nos estudos sobre os jovens e juventudes no Chile, e o uso de algumas categorias conceituais como neotribalização ou tribos urbanas, foi objeto de discussões desde o início do novo século. Since the second half of late 20th Century youth has played a central role in the media agenda and in the political and scientific discourses, as a result of its increasing social visibility. The globalized and mediated processes of image production and consumption, promoted by cultural industries, have played a vital role in the ways youth is socially represented (and represents itself). In a society particularly submerged in image and visuality, it is particularly important the promotion of research programmes dedicated to the analysis of the connections between contemporary visual culture and the construction of youth representations. Music tells us through lifetime how societies are in a specific times and spaces. It is shout, denounce, identity, culture, union; it is youth and revolt. Each generation has its own music, which expresses the vision of its city, its country, and the world. Also, each urban tribe or young musical group has their own music, which gives them identity markers and cohesion. This article will undertake a case study where applied social research through music has been proven useful to break social borders and to empower the youngest people with limited resources in the Metropolitan Zone of Mexico City. Being offered a learning space, and opportunities of professionalization and self-expression young displaced may coexist with young people with better opportunities, thus affecting the reconstruction of the social network., La música a través del tiempo nos cuenta cómo es una sociedad en una época y espacio determinado.

From an experience of field in four districts of the city of Cairo, the author raises a reflection and a reframing of the instituted traditional methodologies for the investigation between generational groups in western contexts. Although the basically urban character of these associations is defended, it discusses to the relevance of the application of the concepts of “urban tribe” and “youth culture” in cultural scenes like the represented ones in societies that have undergone a fast transition to a modernity imposed by the transnational networks. In this sense, the objective is the refining of those conceptual tools offering a new perspective of which it considers the historical and social peculiarities of the construction of “young” the social category in other places. Finally, the text tries to vindicate the Anthropology like an empirical and non a priori discipline. In recent years, groups bearing the label of urban tribes have been emerging in different Latin American cities. These subcultures present distinctive features and characteristics that distinguish them from the rest of the people that constitute the city´s cultural landscape. - Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to study the identity creation of a city and the way the city is perceived by people who attend an annual cultural event - Fantasporto. The results revealed that the identification of the group with the event and the way it experiences the city takes that identity and the celebration into the characterization of the city. By creating a particular form of experiencing life in the city they become part of a tribe and the image of the city connected to the event acts as a city identifier for Oporto.
