Background: The introduction of universal healthcare coverage in 2014 has affected the practice of community pharmacies in Indonesia. Studies regarding the practice of pharmacist in the chain community pharmacy setting in Indonesia are very limited. The chain community pharmacies in Indonesia are operated and controlled by the same management. The chain community pharmacies usually show better services compared to independent community pharmacies in Indonesia. Objective: The study aimed to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice (KAP) of pharmacist working in chain community pharmacy towards their current function and performance in delivering pharmacy services Methods: A cross-sectional study using questionnaires was conducted between January and March 2017 in KF, one of the largest chain community pharmacies in Indonesia. The total sampling method was used in the recruitment process. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-Test and one-way ANOVA. The KAP scores were assessed and categorized as “poor”, “moderate” and “good” based on the standardized scoring system. Results: A total of 949 KF’s pharmacists (100% response rate) were participated in the study. Due to its internationalization agenda, higher education institutions (HEI) in Indonesia adopted English as medium of instruction (EMI) programs despite the absence of a national policy document to regulate EMI. Studies on EMI policy in HEI focused on the effect policy could have on the dominant group and gave less highlight on EMI policy implementation management. This case study examined the management of EMI as language policy at the meso-(institutional) and micro-(classroom) levels. The data sources include the institutional policy document related to the EMI program, and interviews with seven EMI officers and seven EMI teachers at a Technological Institute in Indonesia. Using Spolsky's language management framework for the "sensitizing concept," the result of the thematic analysis of the data shows three major categories of EMI policy management: EMI classroom management mechanism, language-related mechanism, and incentivization mechanism. The EMI teachers practice EMI differently in the classroom. Three teachers used English only, while four teachers used multilingualism for content comprehension. The most highlighted managerial and teaching problems come from the students’ recruitment. Therefore, reflecting on the constrain due to the management, it is recommended that the Ministry of Education provide more concrete and practical guidance on EMI implementation in Indonesia.

Semeru, the most active volcano in Indonesia, erupted again in December 2021. This study aimed to map the impact of damages due to the eruption and map the incompatibility of land use with the Spatial Planning. The study was carried out through multitemporal spatial analysis to map the impact of the eruption damages, while the analysis of suitability and land use direction was carried out by overlaying land use maps with Spatial Planning maps. Sentinel-1B image data were analyzed using a maximum likelihood approach to obtain land use classification before and after the eruption. The results of the study showed that the eruption had an impact on the destruction of 1001.2 Ha of High-Density Forest, 624.9 Ha of Medium-Density Forest, 450.8 Ha of Rice Fields, 436.7 Ha of Agricultural Fields, 91 Ha of Settlements, and 3.1 Ha of Water bodies in Lumajang Regency. The results of the analysis show that in the affected area, there is a spatial plan direction of a residential area of 109.7 Ha. In addition to that, the high impact of the disaster is also due to the incompatibility of land use in the conservation area as a residential area of 515.4 Ha. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study explores the integration of Piil Pesenggiri local wisdom into character education through Social Sciences Subject (IPS) in elementary schools in Metro City, Lampung. Piil Pesenggiri local wisdom, which consists of four main pillars; respect for others (Nemui Nyimah), cooperation (Sakai Sambayan), achievement (Juluk Adek), and equality (Nengah Nyampur), has been recognized as an important foundation for strengthening character learning in the school environment. This study utilizes qualitative approach and case study in three different elementary schools in Metro City. The research method used is multi-case skin, which collects data through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and analysis of learning documents. The results depict that the application of Piil Pesenggiri values in social sciences subject significantly promoted positive characters development among learners, including respect for diversity, cooperation, motivation for achievement, and understanding of equality. This practice not only enriches the social sciences subject’s curriculum with culturally relevant content but also contributes to the formation of positive social attitudes and behaviors among learners. These findings suggest that local wisdom such as Piil Pesenggiri can be used as an effective instrument in character education, supporting a holistic vision of education in Indonesia, especially in the diverse community contexts such as Metro City, Lampung. This research provides important insights into the potential of local wisdom in forming the basis of strong and culturally relevant character education.

Extensive reading (ER) should be implemented properly based on ER principles. The most known ER principles is ten ER principles proposed by Bamford and Day that are widely referred by ER practitioners around the globe. Unfortunately, these principles are not always implemented in ER classes, even in ELT study program in university. Related to it, ER classes in a university in Indonesia were reported to not conducted ER enthusiastically. It was suspected that it occurred because of lecturers’ confusion on what to do in their ER classes due to their insufficient comprehension of ER and its principles which eventually reduce pleasure which supposed to be existing in ER classes. Based on that suspicion, this study focused on investigating the lecturers’ familiarity on ER principles and the implementation of ER principles regarding the expectation to conduct pleasurable ER classes. The data were collected through in-dept interviews to lecturers and questionnaire to students. This study found that not all of the lecturers have adequate knowledge on ER principles which eventually hindered them to teach ER properly and pleasurably. It was also revealed that pressure was felt by both students and lecturers. The pressure increased when the ER involved rigid assignment and assessment.

In the EFL context, the primary linguistic environment for learners is a formal classroom in which they receive input, feedback, and opportunities to practice with teachers and other learners. However, as learners graduate from schools, they might no longer have access to such an environment and thus be deprived of the main intake to support acquisition and retention, which makes them susceptible to language attrition. This study aims to explore the levels of attrition experienced by 165 multilingual non-English department students 30 months after graduating from their secondary schools, the possible factors associated with attrition, and the predictive power of some language maintenance efforts (LMEs) on English attrition. The participants took standardized English tests, that is, Test 1 and Test 2 administered within a 24-month interval and responded to a questionnaire about LMEs. A paired t-test was used to establish a link between attrition level and the identified factors. A multiple linear regression analysis was conducted to determine the predictive power of LMEs for attrition. The results show that learners with different proficiency levels experience different levels of attrition. Factors like attitude and motivation showed different degrees of correlation with attrition. A negative correlation was found in the three dimensions of LMEs: entertainment, literacy activity, and academic activity. Contrary to popular literature on first- and second-language attrition, the dimension of social interaction has a very low predictive power for foreign-language attrition.

Studies on the relationship between teacher use of ICT and student achievement have been numerous, but those involving other intervening variables, such as technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge (TPCK), are still limited. This study examined the relationships between the use of computer technology (CT) by Indonesian EFL teachers and student achievement, taking into account the TPCK frameworks. Explanatory correlation serves as the research design, as this study was intended to explain the associations among variables under study. Data on teachers’ CT use and students’ English achievement were collected from a sample of 153 EFL teachers by means of Albirini’s (2006) and Wozney et al.’s (2006) adopted questionnaire and the teachers’ document of students’ English achievement scores. The multiple regression analysis indicated that simultaneously, CT use, content knowledge (CK), pedagogical knowledge (PK), and pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) correlate slightly with student achievement, R² = .085, F(4, 148) = 3.418, p .05. This finding suggests that the four predictor variables were not good at predicting student achievement. Other external factors not included in the model may relate to student achievement. The study’s findings imply that in teaching and learning English, teachers should play the role of CT facilitators and let students take great advantage of CT on their own.

Latar Belakang: Pada tahun 2018 Provinsi DKI Jakarta menempati posisi ke-1 obesitas dengan angka prevalensi 10% dan posisi ke-2 gizi lebih dengan angka prevalensi 15,1% pada remaja usia 13 -15 tahun, angka ini berada diatas angka prevalensi nasional. Obesitas memiliki dampak negatif terhadap kualitas hidup remaja. Dampak tersebut meliputi penurunan mobilitas, performa akademik, terdapat berbagai faktor yang dapat memengaruhi kejadian gizi lebih dan obesitas pada remaja. Tujuan: Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mengetahui determinan kejadian gizi lebih dan obesitas pada remaja usia 13 -15 tahun di DKI Jakarta. Metode: Desain penelitian yang digunakan adalah studi cross-sectional dengan data sekunder yang berasal dari data hasil survey Riskesdas (Riset kesehatan dasar) 2018 dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 597 responden remaja usia 13 -15 tahun. Analisis bivariat dilakukan dengan chi square serta analisis mulitivariat dengan regresi logistik. Hasil: Hasil uji bivariat menunjukan bahwa pendidikan ibu (p=0,001) dan minuman berenergi (p=0,036) berpengaruh terhadap kejadian obesitas pada remaja. Pada analisis multivariat diketahui bahwa variabel yang paling dominan secara statistik mempengaruhi kejadian obesitas remaja adalah pendidikan ibu dengan nilai OR sebesar 1,895 dan nilai CIf1,305-2,752. Kesimpulan: Faktor dominan yang memengaruhi kejadian gizi lebih dan obesitas pada remaja usia 13-15 tahun di DKI Jakarta adalah pendidikan ibu. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa terdapat hubungan signifikan, dengan nilai p value sebesar 0,001 dan nilai OR sebesar 1,895. Artinya, ibu yang memiliki pendidikan rendah memiliki risiko 1,895 kali lebih tinggi untuk memiliki anak remaja gizi lebih dan obesitas.

The current study aims at exploring strategies of teaching speaking among EFL/ESL teachers in Indonesian and Malaysian secondary schools. The data were obtained from 55 Indonesian teachers and 9 teachers from Malaysia, who were asked to voluntarily fill out an open-ended questionnaire consisting of 11 items. The questions ranged from teaching strategies to challenges in teaching speaking and the use of IT in the classroom setting. The findings of the descriptive analysis showed that teachers in both countries used relatively similar strategies, except for the aspect regarding the proportion of English use in the classroom. In this case, Malaysian teachers used English most of the time in their speaking class, compared to their Indonesia counterparts who admitted using L1 in various proportions and/or situations. It can be safely assumed that the status of English in Indonesia and Malaysia (EFL vs. ESL) is responsible for this difference, with Malaysian teachers and students being more comfortable with the use of English in their daily encounters.

This study describes Indonesian secondary school EFL teachers’ and students’ profiles of reading engagement, which comprises behavioral, affective, cognitive, and social dimensions. The researchers employed a survey design involving 70 teachers and 828 students of secondary schools in 50 regions in Java, Sumatra, and the Borneo Islands. The instrument used was a teacher questionnaire and a student questionnaire which contained 16 close-ended questions and 7 open-ended questions. The data from close-ended responses were tabulated and presented in percentages, while the data from open-ended responses were analyzed based on themes, then shown in excerpts. The key findings reveal that four dimensions of reading engagement have been implemented by EFL teachers. Both students and teachers show positive reading behavior and attitude toward reading materials and activities. These findings map the reading engagement practiced in EFL classes in secondary schools in Indonesia, which add knowledge about RE strategies improving EFL teachers’ strategies to engage students in reading English texts, which is expected to enhance students’ English reading comprehension and literacy.

Overnutrition among school-aged children increases substantially over the last decade. Among the direct causes of overweight/obesity is inadequate intake of fruit and vegetable. Prior studies have shown that fruit and vegetable (FV) is not merely the main source of vitamins andminerals, but also playing role on preventing weight gain through satiety regulation. This study aims to determine the association of FV consumption adequacy among 5-12 years schoolers and their overnutrition status. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Jakarta and Depok, carried out on 57 children who filled out an online questionnaire survey. Respondents’ characteristics were obtained through the self-administered online questionnaire. BMI for age z-score (BAZ) was calculated from the self-reported recall of body weight and height. The FV consumption was evaluated using the WHO STEP-wise questionnaire. Respondent’s characteristics were presented in frequency and percentage, while association test was done using Fisher Exact test (CI 95%). In this study, 40,4% of children were overweight and most children did not consume adequate portions of fruit and vegetable (73,7% and 57,9%, respectively). There are no significant association between FV consumption and children’s overnutrition (p= 0,171 and p= 0,788, respectively; CI 95%). Overall, a high proportion of children overnutrition was observed. However, there is no significant association was found between fruit and vegetable consumption and children’s overnutrition. There is a need for specific regulations and practices that may engage children in consuming fruit and vegetable on the daily basis.

Learning resource transformation is essential in this digital era, and English teaching and learning is no exception, especially in Madrasah context. That is why providing digital Extensive Listening (EL) materials to promote comprehensible input and character values is needed. This study outlines how Muslim English Literacy (MEL) application was developed to support the digital transformation as an alternative for EL materials. Research and Development (R & D) design was executed comprising seven phases of needs assessment, product design and development, product validation, first round of product revision, field testing, second round of product revision, and final product dissemination. The results of the field testing and moderation suggest that the developed product, MEL, is practical and applicable in helping EFL students to get more language exposure so that their English language acquisition can be facilitated. In addition, the product integrating character values may also strengthen their identity of being Muslims. Further studies on similar material development with more various topics utilizing technology apps are worth conducting. Pengembangan aplikasi literasi digital untuk bahan ajar Extensive Listening Transformasi bahan ajar sedang menjadi kebutuhan di era digital saat ini, termasuk dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di Madrasah. Oleh sebab itu, ketersediaan bahan ajar Extensive Listening (EL) yang mengintegrasikan comprehensible input (i+1) atau ilmu pengetahuan dan nilai moral sangat dibutuhkan. Artikel ini membahas bagaimana aplikasi Muslim English Literacy (MEL) dikembangkan untuk mendukung transformasi digital tersebut sebagai alternatif bahan ajar EL. Penelitian dan Pengembangan (R & D) ini diselesaikan melalui 7 tahap: analisa kebutuhan, desain dan pengembangan bahan ajar, validasi produk, revisi pertama produk, uji coba, revisi kedua produk, dan diseminasi produk akhir. Hasil uji coba dan hasil akhir ini menunjukkan bahwa produk yang dikembangkan, MEL, bersifat praktikal dan diterapkan oleh para siswa dalam memperoleh lebih banyak pajanan bahasa Inggris sehingga mereka dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbahasa Inggrisnya. Selain itu, produk ini juga bisa meningkatkan identitas mereka sebagai muslim dengan cara menerapkan nilai-nilai karakter yang diintegrasikan dalam produk ini. Selanjutnya, penelitian dan pengembangan semacam ini perlu dilakukan lagi dengan topik yang lebih beragam.

This study delves into the engagement with research among university-level English department teachers. It examines their reading habits, literature preferences, and the influence of these activities on their professional practices. Through in-depth interviews with teachers from four reputable universities, this research offers insights into the frequency, format, and resources of engagement with research, as well as the challenges and reasons behind their varying levels of engagement. The findings drawn from this study contribute to the current body of research on teachers' engagement with research. They offer insights that may help improve educational programs or policies aimed at enhancing engagement with research in the academic community. The study, while offering valuable insights, acknowledges its limitations and suggests future research to broaden the scope and understanding of research engagement across different academic fields and settings.

AbstractThe primary objective of this study was to examine the range of available Artificial Intelligence (AI) writing tools and assess their influence on student writing, particularly in terms of content and organization, as perceived by English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers. Utilizing a qualitative approach, the research was constructed within a case study design. The data was collected via semi-structured interviews, targeting information about the diversity of AI writing tools and their impact on students” writing quality. The study gathered data from four EFL teachers across three distinct universities in Indonesia, shedding light on the variety of AI writing tools used in their classrooms. These included applications like Quillbot, WordTune, Jenni, Chat-GPT, Paperpal, Copy.ai, and Essay Writer. Furthermore, these teachers unanimously agreed that the AI writing tools positively improved their students’ writing quality, particularly enhancing the quality of their content and organization. The findings of this study imply that integrating AI writing tools can prove beneficial in elevating the quality of EFL student writing. In response to this study’s limitations, recommendations for future research were also addressed.

This study compared Moodle and Telegram as mobile-instant messaging (MIM) to understand how the platforms performed in technology-enhanced content and language integrated learning (TECLIL) settings. It involved 68 English for Academic Purpose (EAP) students enrolled in two groups, i.e., Moodle group and Telegram group. Using the mixed-method design, the study garnered quantitative data through pre- and post-tests of language performance coupled with post-tests of spoken presentation, content knowledge, and collective knowledge co-construction. Qualitative data concerning the interaction patterns in online discussion forums were amassed by retrieving students’ postings on both platforms. This study garnered additional quantitative data as covariates, which involved a survey of technology acceptance and a survey of teacher evaluation. Upon analysis, paired sample t-test was operative to identify noteworthy differences between groups with respect to technology acceptance, evaluation of teacher performance, language performance, and content knowledge. For the qualitative inquiry, thread analysis on the interaction patterns in both groups was conducted to scrutinize their depth of knowledge co-construction. Although the interaction trends in both platforms mark the dominance of knowledge sharing, the findings lend credence to the stronger potential of Moodle to empower students’ in-depth knowledge co-construction while exercising their subject-specific language performance. For deep engagement in knowledge co-construction and authentic language use, teachers need to provide appropriate scaffolding through modeling effective collaboration, making explicit the characteristics of quality discussion, and establishing a mutual understanding of what students need to achieve in the online discussion forum.

The magnetic hysteresis curve can provide information about magnetic properties, particle size, and its distribution. For superparamagnetic materials, the characteristics of the hysteresis curve are very typical, that is, Hc is equal to zero with a certain Ms value related to particle size in the order of nanometers. Here, we report the analysis of the magnetization hysteresis curve by applying a modified Langevin equation with and without a log-normal distribution for nearly superparamagnetic Fe3O4 and Fe3O4 encapsulated by SiO2 (Fe3O4–SiO2). To study the reliability of the modified Langevin equation, we compared the particle size values obtained from fittings analysis of the modified Langevin equation with those obtained from the TEM measurement. It was found that particle size from TEM measurement for Fe3O4 and Fe3O4–SiO2 is 11 and 14 nm, respectively. These values had a very high match with the particle size obtained from fitting analysis of the modified Langevin equation with or without a log-normal distribution, which is 12.6 and 12.9 nm for Fe3O4 and 13.8 and 14.5 nm for Fe3O4–SiO2, respectively. The fitting results of the modified Langevin equation with a log-normal distribution showed a value closer to the measurement results. By using the modified Langevin equation with a log-normal distribution, it was also obtained that the probability density function for Fe3O4 was 20.69% and that for Fe3O4–SiO2 was 0.55%. It was concluded that the modified Langevin equation with and without log-normal distribution was able to be used to obtain the particle size and its distribution for nearly superparamagnetic samples.

Hypertension is a global health problem that can occur in adolescents. According to Riskesdas 2018, the national prevalence of hypertension is 34.1%. In Banten Province, it stands at 29.4%, and in South Tangerang City, it’s 27.5%. This study was aimed to determine the association between age, sex, vitamin D intake, fat intake, and sun exposure with the incidence of hypertension among adolescents at SMPN 21 South Tangerang and the dominant factor among these variables that is a risk factor of hypertension. This study used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 102 respondents taken using a stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected through blood pressure measurements, the Sun Exposure Questionnaire (SEQ), and the Semi Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire (SQ-FFQ).
