Patient Support Programs (PSPs) may be used as a support tool to assist patients and health care professionals optimize treatment and improve disease management.Patients and Methods: In Italy, the PSP PSOLife CARE, which began on the 9th of February 2017 and is ongoing, aimed to support patients with psoriasis under therapy with secukinumab (Cosentyx®). A team of medical professionals including Dermatologists, Psychologists, Nutritionists, and field Nurses provided outpatient treatment as well as remote support via phone calls. Patients had a standard duration in the Program of 6 months. This report analyzes the data of patients who benefited from the Program from February 2017 to August 2020, for a total observation of 42 months.Results: We provide here a descriptive report on the benefits of participation in the PSOLife CARE Program for patients with psoriasis and medical professionals involved in their care. Throughout their time in the PSOLife CARE Program, patient satisfaction remained consistently high with sustained improvements observed in all aspects of quality of life (ie emotional, social, physical, and economic). Despite exiting from the Program, most patients continued to adhere to secukinumab. Medical professionals also reported positive outcomes on their interactions with patients, with more than half of those surveyed rating the overall quality of the Program as “Outstanding”.Conclusion: By supporting treatment adherence, the PSOLife CARE Program may have empowered patients to better manage their psoriasis, increasing their satisfaction with treatment and quality of life.Keywords: dermatology, PSOLife CARE Program, quality of life, treatment adherence

The paper reports a case of a 24-year old woman affected by pseudoxanthoma elasticum with typical flexural skin and ocular lesions. Other rarely associated diseases were also present: simple colloid goitre with hypothyroidism, renal and suprarenal capsules and ovarian cysts, consequent dysfunction of the pituitary-adrenal axis, hirsutism, cochlear hypoacusis, frontal sinus hypoplasia, and neuropsychiatric disorders. The association with hypothyroidism, hypoacusis and neuropsychiatric disorders is fully discussed, and it is suggested that the latter might be caused by peripheral vascular damage.

The Authors report mottled fundus in association with pseudoxanthoma elasticum in 8 of 9 patients. The mottled hyperpigmentation is an early uncommonly described finding, consisting of a speckled, yellowish mottling of the posterior pole temporal to the macula at ophthalmoscopic examination; this appearance, called "peau d'orange", is believed to be caused by changes in the retinal pigmented epithelium overlying a calcified and degenerating Bruch's membrane. This finding is virtually pathognomonic of pseudoxanthoma elasticum and may be present even in the first decade of the disease, prior to the appearance of the angioid streaks. The Authors emphasize the significance of the retinal finding, that may represent an incomplete genetic expression of an autosomal recessive carrier state.

Two patients showing features of both lichen planus and lupus erythematosus are described: reticular whitish patches in the oral mucosa coexisting with chronic, partly atrophic LED-like skin lesions located on the face were present in both of them. The histological, histochemical and immunopathological findings allowed to diagnose a "LP-LE coexistence" more than a mixed LP-LE disease. The clinical, histological and immunological relationships between LP and LE are discussed and it is suggested that the pathogenesis of the coexistence of the two diseases could be related to a common pathophysiological pathway. It might be that LP and LE are due to a single aetiological agent (e.g. a virus) interacting with different genetic backgrounds to cause LE in some, LP in others and an intermediate disease in a small group of patients. The histopathological and immunopathological features that distinguish LP from LE are the concentration of lymphocytes in areas of keratinocyte damage, the different colloid bodies patterns and the direct IF findings. The Authors conclude that further studies should be performed on "LP-LE coexistence".

An idiopathic case of twenty-nail dystrophy observed in a 6 year old girl, is reported. Histopathological features obtained from a nail matrix biopsy specimen excluded lichen planus or other skin diseases. The various pathogenetic hypotheses are discussed.

The results of a clinical study in evaluating the effectiveness and tolerance of a detergent cream and a non-alcoholic tonic lotion are reported. The study was carried out on 20 patients affected by rosacea.
