Abstract: The results of the SERP-E-184 experiment at the U-70 accelerator (IHEP, Protvino) are presented. Interactions of the 70GeV proton beam with carbon, silicon and lead targets were studied to detect decays of charmed $D^{0}$, $\bar{D}^{0}$, $D^{+}$, $D^{-}$ mesons and $\Lambda_{c}^{+}$ baryon near their production threshold. Measurements of lifetimes and masses have shown a good agreement with PDG data. The inclusive cross-sections of charm production and their A-dependences have been obtained. The yields of these particles are compared with the theoretical predictions and the data of other experiments. The measured cross-section of the total open charm production ( $\sigma_{\rm tot}(c\bar{c}) = 7.1 \pm 2.3({\rm stat}) \pm 1.4({\rm syst})$ μb/nucleon) at the collision c.m. energy $\surd s = 11.8$ GeV is well above the QCD model predictions. The contributions of different kinds of charmed particles to the total cross-section of the open charm production in proton-nucleus interactions vary with energy.

Abstract: The decay K- -> pi0 e- nu has been studied using in-flight decays detected with "ISTRA+" setup operating at the 25 GeV negative secondary beam of the U-70 PS. About 130K events were used for the analysis. The lambda_+ parameter of the vector formfactor has been measured: lambda_+ = 0.0293 +- 0.0015(stat) +- 0.002(syst). The limits on the possible tensor and scalar couplings have been derived: f_T/f_+(0)=-0.044 +0.059 -0.057 (stat) f_S/f_+(0)=-0.020 +0.025 -0.016 (stat)

Abstract: A sample of events enriched in bb̄ quark pairs was selected in the data recorded by the DELPHI experiment at LEP during 1992 and 1993, by the presence of secondary decay vertices from short-lived particles. Using this sample, the average multiplicities of Ks0, K±, p(p̄), Λ(View the MathML source) and of charged particles in bb̄ events have been measured, distinguishing the component from fragmentation and the component coming from the decay of b-hadrons. The measurement of the average charge multiplicity in bb̄ events was used to compute the mean fractional beam energy carried by the primary b-hadron, and the difference in charged particle multiplicity between bb̄ events and light quark (uū, dd̄, ss̄) events.

Abstract: A measurement of B meson lifetimes is presented using data collected from 1991 to 1993 by the DELPHI detector at the LEP collider. Samples of events with a D meson and a lepton in the same jet are selected where$\bar D^{^0 } \ell ^ + $ and D*l+ events originate mainly from the semileptonic decays of B+ and B0 mesons, respectively. From the reconstructed B decay length and the estimated B momentum, taking into account the dilution due to B decays into$\bar D^{^{**} } \ell ^ + v$, the following B meson lifetimes and lifetime ratio are measured: $$\begin{gathered} \tau (B^ + ) = 1.61_{ - 0.16}^{ + 0.16} (stat.) \pm 0.12(syst.) ps \hfill \\ \tau (B^0 ) = 1.61_{ - 0.13}^{ + 0.14} (stat.) \pm 0.08(syst.) ps \hfill \\ \tau (B^ + )/\tau (B^0 ) = 1.00_{ - 0.15}^{ + 0.17} (stat.) \pm 0.10(syst.) \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ and an average lifetime of B+ and B0 mesons is obtained: $$\tau (B) = 1.61_{ - 0.07}^{ + 0.08} (stat.) \pm 0.05(syst.) ps$$

Abstract: Experimental evidence for the existence of orbitally excited B meson states is presented in an analysis of the BÏ and B*Ï distribution of Q = m(B**) - m(B(*)) - m(Ï) using Z0decay data taken with the DELPHI detector at LEP. The mean Q-value of the decays B**â B(*)Ï is measured to be 284 Â± 5 (stat.) Â± 15 (syst.) MeV/c2, and the Gaussian width of the signal is 79 Â± 5 (stat.) Â± 8 (syst.) MeV/c2. This signal can be described as a single resonance of mass m = 5732 Â± 5 (stat.) Â± 20 (syst.) MeV/c2and full width Î = 145 Â± 28 MeV/c2. The observed shape is also consistent with the production of several broad and narrow states as predicted by the quark model and partly observed in the D-meson sector. The production rate of B**per b-jet is found to be 0.27 Â± 0.02 (stat.) Â± 0.06 (syst.). Â© 1995.

Abstract: Two measurements of {Mathematical expression} are presented. Both measurements use 250000 Z decays taken with the DELPHI detector in 1991 and rely mainly on the precision of the microvertex detector. One tagging method is as simple as possible so that background rates can be reliably predicted by simulation. The other one uses a more involved tagging technique and reduces the dependence on simulation as much as possible. Combining both results, {Mathematical expression} is found to be 0.2209±0.0041(stat.)±0.0042(syst.)±0.0018 {Mathematical expression}. © 1995 Springer-Verlag.

Abstract: Kaon production in one prong tau decays has been studied using data collected with the DELPHI detector at the LEP collider Charged kaons were identified over a large momentum range by the DELPHI barrel Ring Imaging Cherenkov detector. The following branching ratios have been determined: BR(τ → Kντ) = (0.85 ± 0.18) %, BR(τ → Kντ ≥ 0 neutrals) = (1.54 ± 0.24)%, BR(τ → Kντ ≥ 1 neutrals) = (0.69 ± 0.25)%. The result for the exclusive branching ratio is consistent with the Standard Model prediction based on τ - μ - e universality. In addition, tau decay into K*- was studied in the channel K*- → K-π0. The result BR(τ → K*-ντ) x BR(K*- → K-w0) = (0.57 ± 0.23)% was obtained.

Abstract: Distributions of event shape variables obtained from 120600 hadronic Z decays measured with the DELPHI detector are compared to the predictions of QCD based event generators. Values of the strong coupling constant αs are derived as a function of the renormalization scale from a quantitative analysis of eight hadronic distributions. The final result, αs(MZ), is based on second order perturbation theory and uses two hadronization corrections, one computed with a parton shower model and the other with a QCD matrix element model. © 1992 Springer-Verlag.

Abstract: Seven unambiguous events out of a sample of 270 000 Z0 decays, contain in tile same jet a D(s) meson and a muon at large transverse momentum relative to the et axis. These events are direct evidence for B(s)0 meson production in hadronic Z0 decays. The production rate of these events, relative to all hadronic Z0 decays is ( 18 +/- 8) x 10(-5) this number including the relevant branching fractions of the B(s)0 and D(s). The value of the B(s)0 meson lifetime relative to the average B meson lifetime is measured to be 0.8 +/- 0.4.

Abstract: The differential cross section for final state radiation from primary quarks is obtained from a study of isolated energetic photons produced in the reaction e+e-→Z0→hadrons+γ, as measured in the DELPHI detector at the CERN LEP collider. When combined with the measurement of the total hadronic width of the Z0, the observed rate determines the electroweak coupling constants of up and down type quarks, i.e. {Mathematical expression} No evidence is seen for additional photon production from anomalous decays of the Z0 or from decays of new particles. This measurement leads to upper limits on the production cross section times branching fraction of (a) the Higgs boson in the reaction e+e-→Z0→H +γ, H→hadrons, (b) an excited quark, q*→q+γ, and (c) the contribution of an anomalous decay of the Z0 into a photon and hadrons. These limits, all at the 95% confidence level, vary from 3 to 10pb as the mass of the intermediate state (H, q* or Z*) varies from 10 GeV/c2 to 80 GeV/c2. © 1992 Springer-Verlag, 0, SCOPUS: ar.j, info:eu-repo/semantics/published

Abstract: A strong increase of the mean transverse momentum [p(t)] with the number of charged particles n(ch) is observed in e+e- annihilations into hadrons at LEP energies, The effect resembles correlations observed in hadron-hadron interactions. In e+e- annihilations the [p(t)] and n(ch) correlations can be accounted for by gluon radiation.

Abstract: Inclusive and semi-inclusive production of Λ and $$\bar \Lambda$$ inK + p interactions is studied at an incident momentum of 70 GeV/c. Cross sections and single particle distributions are presented and compared with data at lower energies. Scaling is observed between 32 and 70 GeV/c in the Feynmanx variable in the target and the beam fragmentation regions for Λ and $$\bar \Lambda$$ inclusive production respectively. An increase of Λ ( $$\bar \Lambda$$ ) production is observed in the beam (target) fragmentation regions, whereas the data at 70 and 32 GeV/c are reasonably close in the central region. The dependence of the Λ( $$\bar \Lambda$$ ) polarization as a function ofx is measured and found to be in general agreement with the results at 32 GeV/c. The (Λ $$\bar \Lambda$$ ) pair production cross section increases significantly from 32 to 70 GeV/c. The Λ and $$\bar \Lambda$$ production associated with an identified proton is also studied.

Abstract: The forward-backward asymmetries for the processes $$e^ + e^ - \to c\bar c$$ and $$e^ + e^ - \to b\bar b$$ at theZ resonance are measured using identifiedD *± mesons. In 905,000 selected hadronic events, taken in 1991 and 1992 with the DEL-PHI detector at LEP, 4757D *+→D 0π+ decays are reconstructed. Thec andb quark forward-backward asymmetries are determined to be: $$\begin{gathered} A_{FB}^{c\bar c} = 0.077 \pm 0.029(stat) \pm 0.012(sys), \hfill \\ A_{FB}^{b\bar b} = 0.059 \pm 0.062(stat) \pm 0.024(sys). \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ Constraining theb asymmetry to the value measured by DELPHI using independent analyses, the charm asymmetry is determined to be: $$A_{FB}^{c,const} = 0.068 \pm 0.027(stat) \pm 0.011(sys).$$ . This result corresponds to an effective electroweak mixing angle measured using charm quark events of: $$\sin ^2 \theta _{eff}^{lept} = 0.2307 \pm 0.0062(stat) \pm 0.0026(sys).$$

Abstract: Correlations between pions from different W's in e(+)e(-) --> W+W- events are studied using data collected by the DELPHI detector at LEP running at a centre-of-mass energy of 172 GeV in 1996. At the present level of statistics, no enhancement of the correlation function above that expected from a pair of uncorrelated W's is observed at small values of the four-momentum difference of the pions.
