Abstract

The dose-response functions (DRFs) developed for the prediction of first-year corrosion losses of copper and aluminum (K1) in continental regions are presented. The development of DRFs is based on the stablished dependences of the corrosion losses of these metals on SO2 concentration: K = f([SO2]). Experimental data on the atmosphere corrosivity and corrosion losses of the metals in a one-year exposure period according to ISOCORRAG and UN/ECE international programs, the Russian program, and МICAT project were used. Comparisons of the predicted K1 values obtained by three different DRFs with experimental K1 values are presented. These DRFs are analyzed in terms of the coefficients they contain.

Abstract

Based on the results of 1-year tests at 12 sites in the Far Eastern region of Russia, priority dose–response functions (DRFs) that provide the best match with experimental data on corrosion losses for carbon steel and zinc have been selected. Long-term (up to 50 years) predictions of corrosion losses of these metals in the continental territory of Russia have been given. A comparative estimation of the mass loss predictions by priority DRFs and the power–linear model has also been given.

Abstract

An analysis of the results of corrosion tests on flat and helix specimens made of technically important metals carried out within the ISO CORRAG program is given. Stochastic relationships between coefficient n in the power function, which characterizes the protective properties of the corrosion products, and the limiting corrosion rate α, with the corrosivity of each type of atmosphere were found. A forecast of corrosion losses for a period of up to 50 years was given using the linear function in the stationary stage, a power function, and limiting corrosion rate values α. The reliability of the forecasts was estimated.
