(1) Interest in the Juncaceae family has risen as some members have shown anti-inflammatory properties and interesting compounds. In this regard, we decided to investigate the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties of Luzula sylvatica, a Juncaceae not yet extensively studied, in the context of osteoarthritis. (2) The Luzula sylvatica Ethanol extract (LS-E) was used to test the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by leucocytes, the IL1β and PGE2 production by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), the production of EP4, and the activation of NFκB in THP-1, as well as the IL1β-activated normal human knee articular chondrocytes (NHAC-Kn) gene expression, grown in monolayers or maintained in alginate beads. (3) Organic acids, caffeoylquinic acids, quercetin and luteolin, compounds frequently found in this family were identified. The LS-E exhibited inhibited ROS formation. The LS-E did not affect NFκB activation and IL1β secretion but dampened the secretion of PGE2 by PBMCs and the presence of EP4 in THP-1. It also modulated the expression of NHAC-Kn in both models and inhibited the expression of several proteases and inflammatory mediators. (4) Luzula sylvatica might supply interesting antioxidant protection against cartilage damages and lessen joint inflammation, notably by decreasing PGE2 secretion in the synovial fluid. Moreover, it could act directly on chondrocytes by decreasing the expression of proteases and, thus, preventing the degradation of the extracellular matrix.

OBJECTIVES To validate QFR using 4-F diagnostic catheters compared to using 6-F guiding catheters, with conventional guidewire-based FFR as the reference standard, using independent core laboratory analysis. BACKGROUND Quantitative Flow Ratio (QFR) allows Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR) calculation based on the coronary angiogram, using 5- or 6-French (F) catheters. However, the use of 4-F diagnostic catheters to perform coronary angiography is currently routine in some centers. METHODS We included all consecutive patients with stable coronary artery disease and indicated for physiological assessment. QFR was performed using a 4-F diagnostic catheter, then QFR was performed using a 6-F guiding catheter while conventional FFR was measured using a pressure guidewire. Angiograms were sent to two separate core laboratories. RESULTS One hundred lesions in 67 consecutive patients with QFR performed using 4-F and 6-F catheters, and with conventional FFR, were included. Pearson's correlation coefficient was for QFR 4-F vs. FFR 0.91 [0.87-0.94], for QFR 6-F vs. FFR 0.90 [0.86-0.94], and for QFR 4-F vs. QFR 6-F 0.93 [0.90-0.95]. Receiver-operator characteristic curves (ROC) comparing the ability to predict an FFR value above or below 0.80 with QFR 4-F and 6-F were generated. The area under the ROC curve (AUC) vs. FFR was 0.972 [0.95-0.99] for QFR 4-F and 0.970 [0.94-0.99] for QFR 6-F. CONCLUSIONS Our study demonstrated the feasibility of performing QFR analysis from angiograms obtained by 4-F catheters, and showed a good correlation with QFR performed using 6-F catheters as well as with conventional FFR performed using a pressure guidewire.

International audience; Dysbiosis of the vaginal microbiome as a result of overgrowth of anaerobic bacteria, such as Gardnerella vaginalis, and low levels of "healthy" lactobacilli leads to bacterial vaginosis (BV), usually associated with a low-grade inflammatory process. Despite appropriate antibiotic treatment, G. vaginalis-associated BV is characterized by significant recurrence. The use of probiotics could be an interesting alternative therapy due to their ability to rebalance vaginal microbiota. In this study, we investigated the effects of a wellcharacterized probiotic strain, Lacticaseibadllus rhamnosus Lcr35, on epithelial vaginal and dendritic cell (DC) immune responses after G. vaginalis infection. In an in vitro coculture model with human monocyte-derived dendritic cells and a vaginal epithelial cell NEC) monolayer, the Lcr35 strain induced DC activation, as evidenced by the induction of maturation and synthesis of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and CCL-20 chemokines upon apical challenge of the VECs by G. vaginas. Analysis of the vaginal epithelial response showed that the presence of Lcr35 significantly increased the production of the proinflammatory cytokines IL-8 and IL-1 beta and human beta-defensin 2 (HBD-2), whereas the concentration of secretory leukocyte protease inhibitor (SLPI) was decreased in G. vagina/is-infected vaginal epithelial cells. Treatment with recombinant SLPI was associated with upregulation of Lcr35-stimulated IL-8 and HBD-2 production. These results suggest that inhibition of SLPI by Lcr35 in vaginal epithelial cells contributes to the host defense response against G. vaginalis infection.

Durant ces journées, s’est dégagée une ligne de force : qu’il s’agisse de critique, d’écriture intime ou de création romanesque, la pensée de Barbey s’articule autour de la notion féconde de paradoxe. Cet ouvrage met en regard les réflexions de l’écrivain et certaines des données d’une « esthétique en acte » et d’une authentique poétique.

We aimed to validate whether quantitative flow ratio (QFR) analysis could be performed by both medical and paramedical certified users. Therefore, we compared QFR values with conventional guidewire-based fractional flow reserve (FFR) as the reference using core laboratory analysis. QFR allows FFR calculation based on the coronary angiogram. QFR analysis requires certified users with dedicated training and skills. However, the ability of medical and paramedical users to correctly analyze QFR remains unknown.In a prospective, single-center study, we included all consecutive patients with stable coronary artery disease and indicated physiological assessment. QFR was performed and analyzed by 1 medical and 2 paramedical QFR users who were unaware of conventional pressure-guidewire FFR measurements.We included 67 consecutive patients and 100 lesions for assessment with QFR and FFR. Pearson's correlation coefficient of QFR performed by paramedical users compared with medical users was 0.89 (range, 0.83-0.92). A Bland-Altman analysis showed no significant bias (-0.0008). Receiver-operator characteristic curves were generated to compare the ability to predict an FFR value above or below 0.80 with QFR performed by paramedical vs medical users. When comparing FFR with QFR performed by paramedical and medical users, the values for area under the curve were 0.964 and 0.970, respectively. Intraclass correlation was 0.884.Our study showed a noticeable correlation between QFR analysis performed by QFR-certified paramedical and medical users, as compared with FFR. These data suggest that QFR analysis could be performed by certified paramedicals in order to reduce physician workload without impacting the quality of the obtained results.

International audience; This study aimed to estimate the seroprevalence of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection within the staff and student populations of the University of Corsica (France) during the second wave of the epidemic. Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted from 23 November 2020 to 31 January 2021. The participants underwent blood sampling using a fingerstick procedure and completed an anonymized questionnaire. Sera were tested for the presence of anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG (ELISA-S) and, if positive, with an in-house virus neutralization test (VNT). Results: A total of 418 persons were included in the study. The overall seroprevalence was 12.8% (95% confidence interval (CI), 9.8\textendash 16.6%). A total of 15 (31%) of the 49 individuals who had a positive ELISA-S also had a positive VNT. Seropositivity was associated with living at the city campus during the week and on weekends (OR = 3.74 [1.40\textendash 12.00]), using public transportation/carpooling (OR = 2.00 [1.01\textendash 4.02]), and being in contact with a person who tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 (OR = 2.32 [1.20\textendash 4.40]). The main symptoms associated with seropositivity were ``having had an acute respiratory infection'' (OR = 3.05 [1.43\textendash 6.43]) and ``experiencing loss of smell'' (OR = 16.4 [5.87\textendash 50.7]). Conclusion: These results could be useful for SARS-CoV-2 prevention and control on university campuses.

International audience; Background: Uncertainties remain regarding the nature and durability of the humoral immune response to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Aim: This study investigated immunoglobulin G response and neutralizing activity to evaluate the mean antibody concentrations and response duration induced by each vaccination regimen in a French adult population. Methods: A study including blood sampling and questionnaires was carried out from November 2020 to July 2021 with three separate follow-up phases. Spike proteins and neutralizing antibodies were quantified using ELISA and a virus-neutralization test. Results: Overall, 295 participants were included. Seroprevalences were 11.5% (n = 34), 10.5% (n = 31), and 68.1% (n = 201) in phases 1, 2, and 3, respectively. Importantly, 5.8% (n = 17) of participants lost their natural antibodies. Antibody response of participants with only a prior infection was 88.2 BAU/mL, significantly lower than those vaccinated, which was 1909.3 BAU/mL (p = 0.04). Moreover, the antibody response of vaccinated participants with a prior infection was higher (3593.8 BAU/mL) than those vaccinated without prior infection (3402.9 BAU/mL) (p = 0.78). Vaccinated participants with or without prior infection had a higher seroneutralization rate (91.0%) than those unvaccinated with prior infection (65.0%). Conclusion: These results demonstrated that single infection does not confer effective protection against SARS-CoV-2.
