This article presents a part of the research undertaken by the author so far, in the Voice and Speech field and is a technical paper about vocal freedom as a necessity for the organic embodiment of the character. The need for vocal training is imperative so that the vocal performance can manifest. The voice is shaped authentically by thoughts and feelings, but for this to be possible it is necessary to prepare the voice, to train it so that it can be properly involved in the manifestation process. Starting from the idea that the actor is a "balanced quartet" that communicates the inner universe by properly using the means of expression, the article concludes that voice and speech are two important components that need careful training in order to be freed from useless tensions. This article is a technical talk about the capacity of an actor to train his pronunciation in order to retain the ability to adapt to different types of speech. This article defines the term diction as an ability obtained by the actor through a specific program of training and by voluntary involving his attention constantly in this process of forming a new reflex of pronunciation. It also brings into discussion the most common causes for the incorrect way of pronouncing the consonant “s”, and suggests a pattern to be followed in order to obtain the correction of this consonant. This is a brief presentation of the process completed in Stage Speech classes, in the second year, first semester, with the students studying Performing Arts (Acting). This article discusses the steps from the written text to a spoken text (in this case Shakespeare's Sonnets), mentioning the enormous importance that the text analysis has in the process of speaking properly on stage. This way of studying the text is not the only one, of course, but it is a valid way of approaching the text in a professional manner.
